  3. Bernard just proved racial disparities in regards to police shootings. Whites make up 60% of the country yet, according to this graphic, account for 43% of unarmed shot by police and 45% of all fatal shooting by police. Blacks comprise 13% of the population and are 33% and 24% of those, respectively. I guess he is counting on his followers not doing the math.

  4. Raw numbers of people being killed by police by race doesn't tell us much. It really needs to be looked at much deeper. What situations were the people doing that lead to them being shot? What situations were the police in that lead to the person being shot? Until that is examined, the conversation is really meaningless. Also, until then, we all should be concerned that so many people ( no matter what race) are being shot by police.

  7. Finally got my 1st dose (Moderna) about 2 hours ago. I literally did not feel a thing. She wiped a spot on my shoulder and said "all done". I was still waiting for at least a tiny poke (.... that's what she said )

  8. It seemed like we were pretty much in the same boat as last year. We are very good but we lack that one elite OH that would put us over the top. We haven't had that Larson/Foecke et.al. that you can go to when you have to have a point. Sun and Kubik are very good but just not quite to that level. So pretty much where we've finished the last two years. Good enough to make the Elite 8 but not quite Final Four worthy.

  12. It’ll be really interesting to see where NU is picked in the pre-season B1G poll. @Mavric and @Minnesota_husker covered in great detail already what we bring back and when you look across the league: Iowa loses everyone Rutgers loses a lot IU, PSU, MN all new coaches Wisconsin loses a lot Purdue loses a lot Illinois will be good but no Cockburn Michigan is probably the favorite, with Maryland and Ohio State rounding out the top 3. Then Illinois will definitely be top 5, likely 4th. But there’s a BIG group of teams that will be hard to judge and NU is in that mix. Edit- and not to mention that we should be favored over Creighton this year if all things go according to plan. There is no team in any sport I’d like to wallop than the Jays in men’s hoops.

  15. Kind of compiling several reports from the last couple weeks, this is where the #2 QB race seems to me: Smothers knows the offense better and makes good decisions but he doesn't seem to have the strongest arm. Haarberg can really fire it but needs to improve accuracy and decision-making. So they both have some good qualities and both have things they need to work on. Haarberg's short-comings would seem to be more expected given limited time and the program and also more fix-able.

  19. I’ll try one more time. If you don’t understand how vaccines are enormously successful and over 99.99% successful in preventing hospitalization and death by that point then there is no help for you. The CDC has data on the number of Covid-19 breakthrough infections on fully vaccinated people—5,800 The CDC says the number of people fully vaccinated people who had breakthrough infections and ended up hospitalized is—396. The CDC says the number of people fully vaccinated who have then since died of COVID-19 is—74 396 + 74 = 470 The CDC says the number of fully vaccinated COVID Americans is—77 million. 5800 breakthrough cases divided by 77 million is .000075% chance of a breakthrough case 470 dead or hospitalized individuals divided by 77 million vaccinated individuals is .0000061% chance of hospitalization or death after full vaccination. Here is another source for you to probably disagree with somehow. https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.cnn.com/cnn/2021/04/14/health/breakthrough-infections-covid-vaccines-cdc/index.html

  20. Interesting take. I wonder if he played any DB in HS. Probably the only way it would work. He does look super athletic. It would be nice to try to get him on the field in some capacity. I've noticed some posters like to use the HaHa emoji when they disagree with a post. I used to be annoyed whenever I would see that that and it's not accompanied with a reply or counter point, but now I don't really give it a second thought.

  21. RPI will be considered but not weighted like it was in past seasons. Hard to take it seriously when Fairfield is the number 1 RPI team but would get ran off a field by Arkansas. Truth is Fairfield is maybe a 2 seed but probably a 3. NCAA committee will have a lot of liberty with how they seed.

  22. Actual, Federally based, universal background checks to start. More stringent mental health assessments. If you have every been institutionalized for a mental breakdown...no guns. Stop allowing set asides/pardons for those convicted of domestic abuse. I am cautious regarding private sales, which some refer to as the "gun show loophole." I personally think that an actual Federal Purchase License might work. Apply every 3 or 5 years, get an in depth background check, update addresses, then pay a nominal fee to receive a license to purchase weapons. Then, even with private sales, that registration/ID number could be recorded for better tracking of the firearms themselves. If you don't have the license and ID, you don't buy a firearm. Staunch 2A advocates will never go for this as a stand alone. However, if the option is an outright ban or get the license...they may choose the license.

  23. Definitely no Dosumu for Illinois. He has declared and hired an agent. https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/31204356/illinois-guard-ayo-dosunmu-enter-nba-draft-hire-agent Minnesota is losing Carr to transfer. I suppose the new coach could convince him to come back, but I think it is unlikely. They are also losing Kalscheur. https://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/story/_/id/31093024/minnesota-golden-gophers-guard-marcus-carr-enters-transfer-portal https://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/team/_/id/135/minnesota-golden-gophers

  24. All worthy of discussion. My point was that before we delve into the banning and taking certain weapons, we need to tighten up who can obtain weapons, and follow through with restrictions that are already on the books.

  25. The offense was close at times to being respectable last year. Turnovers and untimely penalties were always a killer. If each position groups takes a step forward in talent and playing ability combined with a less turnover prone team, that’s how they see a big jump in improvement.

  31. The old “I know I’m wrong so I will just accuse posters of trolling and maybe nobody will notice how wrong I am” post. I’ve already posted the CDC numbers on this a couple days ago. Why you don’t acknowledge them is stunning yet on a way kinda expected as you are the only one not understanding how this math works.

  33. This prompted Husker fans to tweet at Kendall Rogers, who defended their B1G coverage by saying they have 2 Midwest writers. I looked thru their Midwest writers tweets. Lots of Maryland and OSU tweets, no mention of Nebraska in the last month (who is 13-2 in their last 15 and leading the B1G). Not much mention of Michigan either. If you’re covering the Midwest/B1G and not mentioning Nebraska or Michigan.....you’re probably doing it wrong.

  34. You're both arguing two different viewpoints of the same numbers. Volumetrically speaking, there's no way for black people to incur a sum total more deaths at the hands of law enforcement than white people. There are effectively too many white people. However, it is possible for black people to incur a statistically disproportionate number of deaths, and that's what Decoy is pointing out. So, what Kerik is doing is effectively the red herring in all of this. He's saying more white people are killed volumetrically. He's not wrong, but that's not what people are trying to figure out. The real question is why are black people disproportionately impacted based on their contribution to the overall population. The same would hold true for your driver analogy. If that sub-group of drivers is accounting for a disproportionate volume of tickets, we would want to be asking why that's the case and if there are things we could be doing to address it.

  35. Maybe people and the media need to do a better job distinguishing between the real Black Live Mater movement and people who coopted the movement to do nothing but destroy things and cause problems.

  36. BLM fighting the good fight and making sure people can’t get home from work. How would we ever survive without that group. Police are so scared at this point they don’t arrest the people blocking streets, instead they detain innocents trying to drive their own neighborhood. What a joke.

  37. Staying with a law enforcement analogy...if one group of drivers that represents 13% of all drivers account for over 50% of speeding, one would expect that group of drivers to get more tickets for speeding. Yes?

  38. No, what's misleading is clinging to one statistic but totally ignoring others.

  39. Thank you gun owners. You're heroic defense of our Homeland has led to this. Thank God we have so many good guys with guns to defend ourselves from instances like these. Sarcasm aside, American citizens need to accept this as a fact of life and move on. Voting has consequences, and the American public has decided gun ownership is worth this.
