  1. People wonder why they dont allow more access to practices for fans and media. 1 glimpse at practice and we fired a possible backup QB who is 19 years old and never really been through an offseason camp at this level. Logan's skillset is different than other QB's. He is a state level sprinter, so has some serious wheels. From all accounts he makes good decisions and gets the ball out quick. With talent around him at the skill positions he could be more than effective as QB at this level in our system. That is not to discount Haarberg or say he is better than Masker, but I am not willing to write him off just yet. It kind of sucks how he is getting knocked on publicly and hasn't had a real chance to prove himself.

  4. It's truly bizarre and misguided to want to turn today and today's verdict into a societal reprimand on rioters and looters, in addition to trying to dunk on people who wanted to protest and make their voices heard. This isn't the time or the thread for that kind of stuff. Take it somewhere else.

  5. This sounds more like media and fans anointing the newest recruit as the savior every year and then doing it again the next year and disparaging the other guy to promote the savior. We did it with Martinez, McCaffrey, Smothers, Haarberg, seems like a trend in over hyped expectations and not recruiting/development issues.

  6. I'm not sure either, but if you study the Civil Rights movement, you'll find it didn't succeed by waiting patiently, trusting the system, and making people less uncomfortable with their grievances. If you want to go pure patriot, read how America earned its independence from Britain. Rioting, vandalism, and strategic massacres are celebrated as the cornerstone of our freedom.

  7. The question is whether a white frat boy jacked on coke and trying to crawl out of a police cruiser would ever have a knee on his neck for nine minutes until he died. In my experience, no. I mean, Kyle Rittenhouse couldn't even get the attention of police waving a M&P 15 rifle on the street where he just killed two people. A unarmed 13 year old Black kid gets shot for reaching into his pocket. Asking Black people to be extra super respectful because they're Black is the problem, not the solution.

  8. Of course it is. Everyone knows that Trent Dilfer is a better QB than Dan Marino. Just look at how many Super Bowls they won.

  9. Against Illinois, Iowa, Purdue, and Minnesota Adrian Martinez was a combined 60 for 81 (74 percent) for 570 yards and four touchdowns passing and no interceptions with another 177 yards and four touchdowns rushing. I'd hardly call that "dogs#!t". Additionally, all four of those teams have a skill position player who's going to be drafted in a couple weeks (in Purdue's and Minnesota's case, within the first 50 picks) while we started Kade Warner for a good chunk of the season and our best draft prospect is a Day 3 offensive tackle known for his footwork. Recruiting rankings are not the only factor in talent.

  10. Both the protests and the riots came after years of similar cases where folks waited patiently (as Archy prefers) only to have the officers face zero jail time and often the barest of consequences. Time after time after time after time after time after time. The George Floyd video felt like the last straw. Even when caught in a snuff film, who wanted to bet Chauvin wouldn't skate? The protests were justified. Maybe some of the rioting, too. I mean, holy f#&%, what's wrong with this country? The looting -- as mentioned -- is the work of opportunists who work Super Bowls, police funerals, and power outages, too. Did the protests force the jury's hand for the first time in memory? Well that kinda kills the argument for remaining silent and trusting. But let's face it. If the incident hadn't been fiilmmed, Derrick Chauvin would be having cocktails right now.

  13. There are still people alive today that witnessed public lynchings of black people, maybe some on this board, and still all people do is b!^@h about riots instead of codemn the action of why people are rioting in the first place. I can just imagine some of these posters living in the 60s, reading a newspaper about black people being hung for just looking at white people and then b!^@hing about Selma riots.

But I am over the masks, I am guessing you are as well. It doesn't make you a bad person to be over it, it makes you normal.

  20. This was your first post on the subject. Nothing about justice. Everything about the protestors. Going so far as to say it was all for nothing. Pretending they should have just waited quietly for a legal system that habitually screws up these verdicts. This is the ugliest take you could have on today's events. Stick around and take the heat you've already earned on this thread, Pooh. Members 3,679 3,729 posts Posted 2 hours ago Just think, all that rioting and destruction for nothing. All that summer unrest all for nothing. Maybe next time, all the BLM leaders and CNN, MSNBC anchors will wait until the justice system makes it decision before crushing business owners dreams by destroying their business’s

  21. I was curious so I looked up how many players each of the four schools mentioned had drafted in The Athletic's latest seven-round mock: Iowa: 4 (Nixon, Golston, Niemann, Jackson); Minnesota: 2 (Bateman, St-Juste); Purdue: 2 (Rondale, Barnes); Illinois: 2 (Green, Hobbs) ... Nebraska: 1 (Jaimes). A mock draft is obviously subjective but by the clearest indicator of how talented your team is ("Do people at the next level of the sport want your players?") we were very arguably the least talented of the four. 60 completions for 570 yards is 9.5 yards per completion, which would have ranked 11th nationally over the full season. Maybe we should all get back to the Logan Smothers talk?

  22. I find it sad that the correct verdict comes down on a police officer who murdered a person and the conversation turns to how wrong the protests were last summer. Yes, looting and vandalism is wrong and I don't think you are going to find many (if any) on this site who doesn't agree with that. If they do, then I have a problem with that. So, the looting and vandalism was wrong. But, the denigration of the BLM movement and the true protesters is wrong too. The true protesters who didn't loot and vandalize should be supported. But, for some reason some people just can't handle supporting something that is called "black lives matter".

  23. You "very clearly" did not. That's what I'm referring to when I'm talking about dunking on the protesters. Once again, take it somewhere else. This isn't the thread or the place for the direction you want to take this.

  24. He actually averaged just under 10 yards per completion during that stretch. I follow you and don't fault your stance regarding no excuses- you are entitled. However, AM doesn't deserve 100% of the blame for last years lack of wins. He actually performed pretty well during some stretches in spite of the lack of good play around him. I can tell you this is a popular opinion in the locker room. Very few guys are pointing fingers at the QB.

  25. Archy knows very well what he's doing. Also, it's insane to expect a calm and civil response when nothing seems to have changed 19 years after Rodney King. That doesn't make it right but even JFK knew what's what. You didn't want to see it during the national anthem, you turned off the NBA, just wanted to escape. So nothing changed. 19 years later...

  26. It's not, but you knew that. Looting/rioting are different from protests to police actions against segments of the populations. Just like I know that there were people on Jan. 6th just there to attend a rally and others there to try and prevent the peaceful transfer of power as require by our constitution.

  29. Beyond that, because even after he finally removed his knee, neither he nor any of the other officers attempted CPR. I think there's a pretty strong case for murder here.

  30. Going into year 4 no quarterback is going to be our savior until other factors like the offensive line get taken care of.

  31. No, it's perfectly appropriate for this since they had no problem with Republicans doing the same thing in January 6th.

  32. Haarberg is taller, stronger, and has a stronger arm. Still a good enough runner when needs to be. I always like taller QBs...with that said I think Smothers runs the offense pretty well. Great runner and gets the ball out when it needs to be. Not the best mechanics but sometimes AM waits too long and worries about throwing a pretty ball. Just get that damn thing out on time. Very overlooked QB asset. Milton was great at that with Frost at UCF

  36. Right, but you are over it. That is my point. If you had a choice to wear or not wear, you would not wear. That is okay, me too! And you are not crying about having to wear one you are crying on the other side, which again is normal. That is what people do. They "cry" about their side. I don't have a side because I am not a political nut. But I am over wearing masks, even though I still wear one, but I would just rather not, just like you would rather not. Not sure why you are fighting that.

  37. @BigRedBuster I would say the problem is more the athletes not involved in the screen. Screen passes are a lot harder to defend (and hence more likely to be successful) when you've got a legit deep threat that defenders have to respect.

  38. ZRod literally just quoted one of Archy's posts about looting/rioting and suggested that it might have been necessary "protesting" for the court verdict.
    2 points
  39. Wasn't aware of that. I guess it fit. Can you really say that. How easily would this have been brushed aside if no one bother to protest?
    2 points
  40. The Husker fan that complains about too many screen passes is just trying to find something to complain about in the offense. The bubble screen being called isn't the problem. It's the athletes executing the play.

  41. I didn't watch the case, but of all the videos I've seen he's not guilty of murder. I do think he is guilty of manslaughter. He was reckless and excessive. I don't think the intent of kneeling was ever to kill, but it was to cause pain or discomfort, and it was definitely excessive. He even ignored please from the victim, who was already restrained in handcuffs.

  42. We need to put things in perspective. Because I see guys post stuff like this on this board. Or other similiar comments about talent. Those evaluations and thoughts make sense to me and hold water when you are comparing against an opponent like Ohio State, Penn State etc. Teams who have better talent across the board and specifically on Dline and Linebackers who is mostly who are Oline is blocking. You cannot blame the offensive line for Martinez or any other QB looking like dog s#!t against the likes of Illinois, Iowa, Purdue, Minnesota. We out recruit everyone in the big 10 outside of michigan, ohio state and penn state. So I personally dont like saying we suck because lack of talent.

  43. Correct. And they also had many chances leading up to and including January 6th for Trump. No one here has defended Waters as far as I know. We're all for her getting taken to task over her dangerous remarks. But here seems to be one group that lacks consistency regarding dangerous rhetoric.

  44. First off, I think the cop is 100% guilty. However, Waters' words throws enough doubt into that presumptuous guilty verdict 1. The judge should have sequestered the jury at the start of the trial. No media, no outside influences. It was too big of a trial not to do so. 2. Since he didn't - each juror has to decide, once he/she heard of Rep Water's comments, do I want to protect my family and myself and automatically vote guilty or do I want to take the chance of thoughtful deliberation and decide? Net/Net: guilty is most likely the outcome either way but I can see how this gives the opportunity for the defense to appeal and the Floyd family and us as a nation have to sit through this trauma again Waters should be censored. It is not the first time she's done this type of thing either. Someone in her position should know better and be better.

  46. key word "should". As a Nebraska fan I think most of us have that phrase in our head. Nebraska should be a decent football team. Haven't seen it in a while tho. We return most of our team minus 4 contributors. We should be a decent team this year. I agree with a previous post that this is the most important game of the year. Sets the tone.

  47. Brown hardly played and did next to nothing last year. Nixon will be a better player. Trust me. Brown will get there but doesn’t have the football instincts like Nixon. A healthy Nixon would’ve played the most out of all the true freshman last year.
