  2. Wow some of you watched a different Spring Game than me today! If you didn't see the O Line moving people off the ball, if you didn't see a group of hungry running backs, if you didn't see a more nimble, more decisive, better-throwing Adrian Martinez today, I think maybe you watched a different game than I watched. If you're not excited about the running back room, you maybe caught some other show. Dunno. I get that some of you don't live in Lincoln, and that a bright, sunny broadcast may have made you believe this was idyllic football weather. I live in Lincoln, and I had errands to run today. My car was blowing about on surface streets. On 77 west of town I was buffeted quite a bit. On 180 heading into downtown this morning I was constantly adjusting my steering. Today was not an ideal day to feature the passing game. That literally ANY passes were a tight spiral or hitting receivers in their hands was damned impressive. Y'all need to adjust whatever you think about this game by looking at Lincoln's weather today. Sunshine doesn't mean perfect weather. I'm amazed they did any passing at all. Don't trust me. Check your weather app. Heck. Watch the game.

  3. The biggest mistake you can make is to read too much into a spring game. None of the spring games are live football like a regular season game and the practices are scattered throughout. It's mostly about player development and you can clearly see some development happening among the players. I've seen teams that won 11 games during a season that looked really sloppy, slow, and not good at all and I've seen the opposite where they looked like they were in mid-season form and the head coach ended up being fired down the road.

  5. https://streamable.com/njn48h Every QB in every game misses some throws, but very few QBs can hit opposite hash to sideline dots with a lineman getting pushed back into them. And add on to that he looks at least as good running as he ever has.

  6. I thought he looked really good. Physically he is where he needs to be. Scott said he looks like a 4.4 guy out there. He was right. 4.4 easy. His throws downfield were pretty damn good, and it is nice to see him be able to throw in there without having to aim it like he had to with smaller receivers in the past. The thing that I liked the most was seeing him look comfortable which I don't think I saw since his freshman year. He looked in command and I think that is the difference. Okay but back to his speed. I'd bet three big time, "Taylor Martinez esque" runs from him this year. He looks like a burner.

  7. There is some good hand on hand combat going on up front, but the “thud” practices and no blitzing promises nothing to me. I take nothing away from these videos except to see what kind of shape our boys are in. We look bigger and stronger than last year

  8. My guess is we are anywhere from 15-30 spots higher ranked in our recruiting classes than 95% of these teams ... which then points even more to the lack of ability to develop.

  9. Hey @Roxy15 - I merged your 'pasta' thread with this 'entrees' thread. Similar to the post I made in your "Vegetables" thread, I don't think we need different threads for various types of entrees. They should all be consolidated into one thread. Otherwise, one could argue that there could be threads for entrees: pasta, entrees: steak, entrees: chicken, entrees: tacos, etc., and that would just get a little out of hand. Thanks!

  15. I thought I would share this in case anyone would like to do this in their backyard, There are more plants, but, I can’t get all the pictures to post. I would have to delete all my attachments. I will have to delete them soon. We bought some railroad ties and we planted an assortment of flowers, plants, umbrella tree etc. Some just got planted yesterday so they aren’t showing up real good...they will bloom. i am trying to wear out my dogs by playing ball! I have both of them out here. I have one of them worn out! I have trained both of them and I have taught them how to attack. They are very smart dogs and they were easy to train. I feel very safe having them, they love me and they know I love them!

  16. Eh, that might have been the defense with the best statistics but that doesn't make it the best defense (which you didn't say it was). On a yards-per-play basis, the offenses we faced that year were the worst we've faced in the last decade. All of Bo's defenses held opponents under their season average yards per play while the 2016 defense did not. And last year's defense was actually the first since Bo was fired to do that. 18. That would depend on the corner to be turned. Shall we turn towards ice cream (Goodrich is my fav, I so miss it way down here), Valentino's, or Runza?

  19. Was anyone else bored watching the "game" yesterday? I really tried to get into it, but I just couldn't get attached. Maybe the whole no tackling in the first half affected my enthusiasm?

  23. I'm a little surprised by some of the negativity I'm reading here. It was windy as all get out here in the Lincoln-Omaha areas. Don't sweat the passing game woes. For the skill positions, I'm optimistic about the RB and WR groups. The O-ine should be better in '21 and that will help immensely. Also need a little luck on the injury front. Martinez mostly threw well, especially considering the wind, and he looks quicker. Granted, knowing he wasn't going to get popped, may have helped. But overall, if he holds onto the ball, A-Mart should be pretty darn good this season. I'm excited about Haarberg's potential. Hopefully he keeps working hard and improving. Good size and athleticism. Not sure what to think about Smothers. He runs well, but I think his passing really needs to improve. Plus he's just not that big, frame wise. Kind of like LM looked IMO. D will be good, but tough to gauge much based on the spring game set up of thudding and green jerseys. Special teams: Who the heck knows. It has to be better, right? All in all, I still stand by prediction of 6 or 7 regular season wins. I think this team can be pretty good if the focus is there and a few things go the right way.

  25. It was boring. The first half was useless and those guys (most of them) have played a million snaps. They were looking to get it done with, go shower, and head home for a nap and then a night out of partying.

  26. Definitely, offense has been bad late innings and bullpen hasn't been exciting. Going to need to perform better tomorrow, especially we have two games against them this coming weekend. Gonna be a tough month. Don't worry about hosting or making the tournament, let's focus on winning games right now.

  27. TBH, I tried staying engaged in the game and just couldn't do it. I noticed Nutmasher on one play and other than that it was boring and mostly uninformative. It doesn't matter how the team looks against each other. We should know more by around October.

  28. Because they look at the throw to Ervin that didn't connect since Ervin slowed down on the route and the fun play to the LT. He looked more like his Freshman season from a build perspective. 30. With the RBs, it's like we've got plenty of guys with potential, but the question is who can stay healthy? Remember that Yant is pretty much the only guy who was healthy all through spring. Hard not to like him, especially considering that we got him as a walk-on, but he's probably not gonna be an every down kind of back. I'm thinking this fall is probably gonna be RB by committee, where we're just plugging in whoever is healthy at the time. Can we find consistency that way?

  32. This should be Frost's best team since coming to Nebraska. Hopefully a "breakout" season to a bowl game and keep building from there. LOS looked a lot better than it has in years. Finally some depth getting built at the LOS. Passing game will be better this year WITHOUT Wandale Robinson. I know it was vanilla, but you saw a downhill attack.

  35. Report it. Otherwise I'll post what I want, how I want, when I want within the rules of the board. Curious that you have two rising stars of the Republican Party going out on tour to rebuke anyone who didn't try to subvert our democracy and when that information is posted you feel the need to call it "trolling". Wouldn't your energies be better spent trying to counter these people? That is of course if you disagree with them.

  37. The Athletic NFL podcast had line-play guru Brandon Thorn on today to discuss line prospects and Jaimes was the first guy he mentioned as a sleeper. Full interview is here and he starts talking Jaimes at the 5:00 mark. I'm not going to transcribe all of it but some highlights: "A little bit undersized guy; 6'5, barely 300 pounds and below the 34-inch arm-length threshold teams want ... but he's very athletic. His foot-quickness is certainly there, not just the foot-quickness but the patterns that he's executing in his pass set are very efficient. His hands are very good. He's consistently using his hands to reestablish position on pass rushers, and he just gets guys locked consistently. ... Now, guys who are able to convert speed to power are able to get into his chest and lift him up. I like to say his anchor is like he dies slowly. He's really going to have to work hard against elite-type power rushers with prototypical length, but I think his technique, his fundamentals, I think are really starter-caliber, and he's a guy I just wound up liking more and more as I continued to watch him. I think he reminds me of a Joe Thuney in college, an undersized guy playing left tackle. ... Terms like 'sophisticated, efficient, savvy', these are the things I kept thinking of when I watched his tape, and he was just a blast to watch because of that. I just wanted to see how he was going to figure out how to do the next rep. So he was somebody that I really liked and was pretty high on." He also did a film room where he interviewed Jaimes here.
