  1. He inherited a crap situation sure...but let’s not lie and say that he’s recruited the offense super well.

  2. Right, and because of this the B1G will have to adjust to us.

  3. Honest question. Had Frost tried to adjust to the B1G from the jump, would we further along then we are now. I agree with recruiting for one scheme and then another (or body type) has hurt us. I realize it also takes a while to get bigger/faster/stronger. I just wish that Frost realized (and maybe he did) that the magic that was the UCF, in its entirety, would not work in the B1G. And that could very well be the case with the long contract, constant talk about the re-build etc....

  5. I think way to much is made of this because people don't like the results. It is way more about having the athletes to run the offense than it is about changing what type of offense is run. Our offense is not that much different than what Ohio State runs. Are they having to adjust to the B1G? Our offense isn't a lot different than what Penn State runs (though it wasn't as effective last year). Are they having to adjust to the B1G? Our offense isn't a lot different than what Indiana, Purdue, or Minnesota run. They are pretty competitive in the B1G. The problem isn't that the offense won't work in the B1G. It has been shown that it will work. Other teams have shown that it will work. We were a very respectable #25 in the country in total offense in Frost's first year here - when he still had enough Pelini recruits left to field a legitimate B1G offense. We should have been absolutely terrible that first year before he could adjust anything if the problem was he needed to adjust to the B1G. The problem is we didn't recruit one complete set of offensive players in a four-year span. We only recruited two WRs that contributed in a five-year span. We only recruited one serviceable RB in a four-year span. We only recruited three legitimate OL in a four-year span (maybe four if Sichterman pans out) and one of those started out as a TE. You simply can't strike out that much and expect to field a legitimate Power 5 offense. Frost does carry a little bit of the blame for not turning it around a little faster but he was hindered by some bad luck (or whatever you want to call it). He managed to pull two RBs who were legitimate talents in two weeks in Washington and Bell but both turned out to be head cases. Then it definitely hurt that he struck out on WRs in his first full class. The rest of his first full class looks to be filling in nicely, it's just taken them awhile to get on the field. Wan'Dale was a legitimate WR but he clan wasn't patient enough for the rest of the offense to catch up. Johnson and Thompkins still have possibilities at RB. Piper and Benhart were already starters last year and Banks looks to be in the mix this year. Plus McCaffrety was a great chance to take on the heels of Martinez. But all of those guys were only into their second year here last year and didn't get anything resembling a normal off-season. That's basically as many contributors out of one class - in two years here - as we got out of the previous four combined. Frost had to change his offense because of the personnel he had. UCF led the nation in deep throws in 2017. That's been severely lacking the last two years because we haven't had the receivers to make it work. And when you aren't a threat to throw it down the field, there's not much room to open up everything else. So Frost definitely has adjusted his offense. But not because of the B1G. Hopefully it's back closer to what it's supposed to look like this year.

  6. ... and then rip them when they are honest about what they say.

  7. Riley/Williams/Walters combined to recruit two WR contributors in five years. Neither completed their eligibility at Nebraska. That's what this staff has had to work with in their first 2.5-3 years. I do feel like that has changed.

  9. Most productive? Yea. That's Oz. First 1000 yard rusher in several years...... I'm not saying the sky is falling. I am simply addressing the fact that year 4 and we are no closer to a premier/featured back than we were when Frost got here. Injuries, head cases aside, they need to develop/keep depth. For whatever reason (examples you mentioned) or Held can't develop (I am leaning this way) we are struggling at a "known/proven" entity in year 4. Gotta find that bell cow.

  10. This is misleading as hell. My kids were both born in the 80's. They make more than I do, and both own their own homes.

  12. Frost inherited a glorified high School football team that was gut shot from the previous staff

  13. I think it has more to do with the change in body type of the WR unit than anything else. Nance and the kid from yesterday are skinny sprinters without a big blocking radius. The guys they have been recruiting the last two classes are big bodied WR's and the class they are currently recruiting are going to be big bodied kids too. The skinny sprinters worked in the Pac 12 and AAC, but in the Big Ten it ends up with your offense getting beat up by the defenses.

  14. Jesus Christ Troy Walter’s blew a fatty! What a flop. That’s on Frost. Confident Lubick is gonna be an upgrade with a full year at the helm. Just wish we still had Wan’Dale.

  15. That is yet to be determined. A lot of people wouldn’t have considered Oz as a featured back till he was. Exactly.

  16. This is the sentiment I was getting at, what the head ball coach said himself in the article below. https://omaha.com/sports/huskers/football/mckewon-projecting-the-husker-football-depth-chart-after-spring-practices/article_177a50fc-af61-11eb-88f3-c72ae56d7a7a.amp.html This week Scott Frost indicated his frustration with the running back production in 2019 and 2020. “In year one, Devine (Ozigbo) came to the top of the pack and really had a good year for us,” Frost said Thursday on Sports Nightly. “He was reliable and a quality-to-superior Big Ten back, in my opinion. Since then, we just haven’t had anybody we can count on play in and play out completely.”

  17. Really shocking stuff! People that have worked longer and grew up, often times as first generations Americans and were beaten over the head by their parents to save money...now have more money than younger people? Never would have thought that. Never.

  18. Very true, and I assume that population centers are different than the Midwest...but the article presents it as universal, when clearly it is not.

  19. Eh, our most productive back. Our best back was easily Mo Washington, who was a Frost/Held recruit. I think it's pretty premature to start making generalizations about Held. He was only left with one serviceable back when he got here and has had some bad luck with injuries and head cases. All the guys that he has recruited out of high school that are still on the team are freshmen eligibility. People saying he has failed are basically saying none of the five freshmen will ever amount to anything. That's pretty sky-is-falling imo.

  21. It was actually the opposite in one case. The best Covid-19 vaccine on the market didn’t get government development funding for the companies that developed it (Biontech/Pfizer). Pfizer’s CEO says not taking that money made them more nimble and faster in development which turned out to be true.

  22. Would that point more to sub-par coaching or to just bad luck with injuries and COVID? I think we all have our theories, but it’s a legit question that should get answered by Mid-season, if not sooner.

  24. Do you have anything to back up your claim that Frost wanted or preferred smaller players over larger ones, as opposed to just taking what he could get in those first couple years? If not, your point is BS. Put Michigan in that statement and it becomes obvious that it's bulls#!t. They're just as 'B1G' as Ohio State, and loaded with blue chip kids, but haven't exactly been setting the world on fire in the last couple decades. (Their last conference championship was only a few years after ours. Michigan State has had three Big Ten championships since Michigan's last one.)

  27. Good point. The way they should have compared this is looked at the % of population for Boomers back when they were in their 20s-30s, and compared it to their % of wealth. Then done the same thing for Millennials.

  28. Need to keep pace with Indiana and Michigan. If NU wins tomorrow, that will be a good response from last weekend's performance.

  29. Creame of the crop has risen and the bottom 2 are now gone. It's not hard to replace a guy that saw the field for 5 total snaps in two seasons. The good news is that Martin will no doubt be put on scholarship now. I'd bring in 3 WR's for the 2022 class and it seems like that is what the coaches have wanted to do prior to even spring ball anyways.

  30. The talk is mostly a "wished we had a star RB by now." But it's a tad unrealsitc at this point. You can't just look at the # of years and make a blanket statement. When Held arrived he took Ozigbo from deep in the running back depth chart to a 1,000 yard rusher and he made it onto an NFl roster. A bad coach isn't going to be able to do that. He had Washington that showed signs of being an electric player but we all know what took place there. When he was at UCF he took some kid out of Miami that was about 5'7''' with sprinter spead and was one of the major players for their undefeated season. He has recruited pretty good talent to the RB room at Nebraska and now it is time to start getting results from those that he has recruited. You can't expect every RB recruit to pan out. Not even WI gets all of their RB recruits to pan out. If one of the running backs gets past 700 yards this season then we have something starting to develop. Would be ideal if one of them can get to a 1,000 yard season. For all we know Morrison will come out as one of the two feature backs. You just have to be patient and see how things unfold the next two seasons for the RB room. I'd be willing to put money on the table that one of the RB's currently in the running back room makes it to the NFL.

  31. What would be best for everyone is for Martinez to have a strong season and try to make an NFL roster the following season. Then #10 takes over, IMO.
