  1. We endured a similar situation over 20 years ago, and the right decisions were made but we took way too long to recommend the appropriate changes back then. This time it was far easier to get to a quick consensus - three years of steady embarrassment on and off the field certainly helped. Enjoy the season. The program is in good hands - no money will be wasted this time. Expect exciting and positive news releases on 11/27 and 12/3 with regards to changes and upgrades. GBR!

  3. From an Illini Board...sounds like they know how to beat NU defense must make Taylor Martinez stay in pocket instead of getting outside where he is good on rollout passes and scrambling. must keep contain. Beat Nebraska.

  4. Per Sean Callahan the team is over 90% vaccinated. Made a lot of gains in the last two weeks. Frost and staff pushed it hard.

  5. Man, some people read way, waaaaay too much into the results of a single game in a bulls#!t season...

  6. If you've read any Huskerboard this offseason you'll know we'll be coming into the season with an elite offensive line, and elite defense, and we're absolutely stacked at WR. The question should be, why are we only favored by 7?

  7. Most of the defense that gave up 285 rushing yards to Illinois last year returns, though. And while we don't have the same guys who committed the turnovers as last year, we have a QB well known for turning the ball over. Plus, the game is in Champaign, and Nebraska has performed poorly under Frost on the road (4-11), with wins over Illinois & Maryland (2019) and Purdue & Rutgers (2020). Add the fact that Illinois is now coached by Bret Bielema, who has a much better track record in the Big Ten than any current Nebraska coach, and I'm with OP - I don't see why we're favored.

  9. The thing to do, for those of you who just can’t see it, is to bet big on Illinois at +7. Hopefully there are enough of you to move the line down to 6.5 so I can put even more on Nebraska. IMO it takes some pretty serious PTSD (which is understandable for any Husker fan) to not think Nebraska is 7 points better at this point. Illinois has a new coaching staff and relatively little proof of an offense. On D their linebackers are about the only redeeming factor. By all accounts Nebraska’s defense is supposed to be better and the offense greatly improved. But none of that matters until we prove it on the field Saturday.

  10. Last year Nebraska was -5 in Turnovers against Illinois. Both players responsible for all 5 of those are gone. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

  11. The more I think about this, this is turning out to be such a nothing that it’s starting to piss me off more. Someone purposely leaked this at this time to try to derail the start of the season. There is no other reason this is coming out right now. So, to whomever that is…..FU!!!

  12. I really thought so also. It seemed like he was purposely not giving them anything of substance. He answered the questions but really didn’t. It was as if he was pissed at the media guys and blaming them for a lot of the superfluous distractions. Maybe somewhat well founded. But IDGAF if they have anything to write or not, nor do I care about a depth chart or his demeanor. As long as he finally has the team ready to play and not self destruct, he can be as short and surly in pressers as he wants to be. His future fully depends on winning and playing well. That’s all that matters now.

  14. Oh goodie, we're back to using 9-11 as an advertisement for the military. Couldn't we do something to honor the people who were more directly involved in the events of 9-11? You know, like the first responders and the ordinary people who died that day? Or is this supposed to be 'honoring' the fact that the military didn't stop Al Queada that day?

  15. The Sock ain't know nuthin'. The Sock jus wishin' them Husker Boys is ready to have a great year so all Husker folks can bet back to smilin' and supportin' the team. Good luck to all Huskers and Coaches and The Sock is hopin' to have a real good year. Go Big Red!

  16. I'm going to the game in Champaign-Urbana and really considering bringing along a mask. I am vaccinated but I have a pregnant wife who is vaccinated and a 9 year old. So I'll probably be masked up.

  18. If this doesn't scream "I'm a donor with a say in the matter," I don't know what would. Seems totally legit that someone who has the goods on firing a coach would be on a message board discussing the impending matter - especially if it would involve a legal dispute. BTW - *I* am a donor, too. I'd imagine half to two thirds of the folks who post on this board are donors.

  20. My sentiments exactly. And while the following is kind of a political thing it speaks to the state of admin and governance that exists when such activity is allowed to fester unabated. If this is true then stick a fork in Husker football and we deserve to dwell in the bottom of the BIG10. "A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly. But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself. For the traitor appears not a traitor; he speaks in accents familiar to his victims, and he wears their face and their arguments, he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men. He rots the soul of a nation, he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of the city, he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist. A murderer is less to fear. The traitor is the plague." If this poster's OP statement is true, he's on the inside and why would he feel the need to come here and post THAT! This was and is a multiple year project when Frost came in the door and when we turn the corner it will be lightning in a bottle, could be this year. Lot more to said but I'll leave it there.

  21. It may be fun to make jokes and take jabs at the OP but I for one am sick and tired of the program detractors who just want to cause mayhem and make the job for the coaches and players tougher than it already is. So F that guy…and Brett McMurphy too. They are part of the problem.

  22. Surely you're not referring to the same hands that have put us in the quagmire of the last 20 years? Because if so, I have my doubts...

  23. Maybe. But, what this indicates to me is that they feel like they have one guy that can be an every down back. ALSO, that they firmly believe they can be productive at this position....unlike last year. All that is GREAT!!! Just took another sip of kool-aid.

  27. Would be nice to have another airfield to fly people out of instead of just one choke point. Maybe the one we left? Maybe those troops could have assisted there. Myabe the Admin is evacuating things backwards and now has to scramble to get civilians out. And then Maybe 25k troops in DC was overkill as they sat around in parking garages getting Covid. Maybe that was the point of the tweet that was posted. BTW..Taliban seems to love every empires sunk costs. Maybe we should have destroyed those sunk costs first.

  29. I’m heavy on Illinois. NU doesn’t have an identity under Frost and I have zero faith in Chin. Hope this is the year Huskers go bowling but I bet against that too. Whoever gets NU in their next bowl might have 70,000 Huskers in the stadium regardless of the opponent.

  30. I think we can all agree that offense, defense and special teams need improvement. Defense visibly and statistically improved a bit in the last two years, while the offense seemed to regress. Most of us will celebrate progress wherever we can find it. We definitely defend the run better, but the lack of pass rush remains pretty glaring. Would love to see the Illinois QB hit the ground a few times Saturday.

  31. I think it has potential to be a very clever, beneficial move. Possibly even making this alliance more important to the SEC, than the SEC would be to the three conferences in the alliance. It undoubtedly removes the stranglehold the SEC had on the future of CFB.

  33. Not sure why comparing video of their players to NU's HC makes sense, the better comparison would be to the recent interviews the NU players gave this week. IMO the NU players looked relaxed and ready, I didn't get a sense that they were tense at all.

  34. That would make it a lot harder to poach a top replacement coach, much moreso than whatever happened to Solich 20 years ago. The U would have a reputation of bad faith dealing.

  36. You can tell the majority of this group of "experts" pays a lot more attention to the East. Anyone picking NW to finish 2nd in the west just isn't paying attention and Illinois at 3rd?? With a brand new everything? Dude is just trying to generate clicks. I think I would line up with Chip's predictions more than the rest.

  37. Mitch Sherman is kind of a cry baby. He tries so hard to be the most relevant Nebraska media member and it often backfires.
