  1. Overall I found the game encouraging. What I learned is that I'm really in the minority there.

  2. Do people realize that this is a type of game we have lost previously in the frost era right? It feels great to have a W

  3. If you are gonna go for the pick in that situation, you better damn well make the pick. What he did was unacceptable at this level of play. Otherwise make the tackle and get the ball of the 50 after the punt.

  4. It is easy to see the weak link in our offense with this weeks grades..... AM-Who I thought looked very good despite being hurried on 14-24 drop backs despite Buffalo only bringing 4-5....... As witnessed, the running game struggled as well...... If the TE's and other receivers get healthy (Betts becomes an every down guy)we could have something there. At least enough to try and find 4 more wins despite not having an OL.... https://nebraska.rivals.com/news/pff-snap-counts-and-grades-for-nebraska-s-offense-vs-buffalo

  5. To the first bolded, Adrian's reads on the option are light years better than on the zone read. So much so you almost wonder if on a lot of the zone read plays it's a predetermined give. I'd agree it looks like Frost has instilled a lot of his mastery of the option onto Adrian. Moving forward I'd like to see 7 to 8 options a game. It's working. Keep doing it. Of course there will be turnovers. Expect board meltdown then. To the second bolded, it's the defense that has me bookmarking this thread for the guys saying "that's it, no more wins are possible. Done, zip, nada mas". With any improvement whatsoever on the o-line or special teams, this D may steal a game or two. Guys are flying and active....see Reimer and Domann

  7. Nebraska still has a lot of work to do. But a lot of teams struggle. And a lot of "lesser" teams are a lot better than people want to give them credit for. If you don't play well, you're in trouble. That goes for about anyone in the country. We are not even through the second full weekend of the season. And so far we've seen: Tulane take Oklahoma to the wire Fresno State take Oregon to the wire Montana beat Washington Florida State take Notre Dame to overtime then ... Florida State get beat by Jacksonville State Colorado take Texas A&M to the wire Toledo take Notre Dame to the wire

  9. Think the stats have shown most of the weakness in the line is coming from the left side. Seen quite a few times when Corcoran has been overpowered, and Piper seems to be missing assignments. Not saying the rest of the line is great, but that left side definitely needs to be rethought.

  10. Incorrect. We have been well below mediocre for several years. We are hoping to be a 7ish win team this year... In other words we are hoping to move up to mediocre level. That's reality. Fans can choose to enjoy the process or they can choose to be pissed until our next championship. Might be mad for a while if you choose the latter.

  11. Either make the pick or tip the ball away. He did neither. I'm a big believer in guys just doing their jobs. CTB's main job is to make sure the Buffalo receiver doesn't get a first down. That should have easily been done with a tackle 2 yards short of the first down. CTB was trying to do "more than his job" and it could have cost NU. He's been trying to do "more than his job" as a punt returner and it was a big factor in a NU loss.

  13. The game will come down to wether the offensive line can run and pass block. The defense is good enough to keep it close as long as they don't spend all day on the field due to constant 3 and outs by the offense
    3 points
  14. NU was ready to run out the clock, and Buffalo called a time out. That must have annoyed Frost, because then he called a play action pass from Smothers to Hickman. Then Frost is trying to score in the waning seconds of the game.

  16. They beat an undersized FCS team that has gone 7-27 (0-2, '21; 1-8, '20; 3-9, '19; and 3-8, '18) over the past 4 seasons. Not saying we'll win, but really should take nothing from this game.

  19. Except Buffalo put up just 3 points, the game was never in question except to the Debbie downers, and we are a team coming off 5 losing seasons, as compared to sleeping through 9-win seasons with recruiting classes in the top 10. It was Ball State and it was Callahans 4th season, that you finally realized Cosgrove was a terrible DC? Most could tell year one that it was dogs#!t.

  20. I complain about ST constantly but I'm not going to blame Dawson solely. He has 2 under performing groups, but he is being asked to coach 2 groups, and ST is a big job in itself. Frost needed to hire a full time ST coordinator period and he didn't do it. It's Frost's fault overall, poor management/staffing decision.

  24. I haven't gone back to watch video. In person you could hear him (I was close) and it appeared his blockers were pushed into him... but I'll watch tonight. I am not aware of any coach who would prefer their returner to allow a high 40 yard punt to bounce. Fair catch makes complete sense in that scenario. As to the distance, it was against a fairly strong wind. 40 didn't seem irregular from that part of the field. I know we had several punting that direction that were well under 40. Again, perspective can be different in person so I'll watch it all later. My main point was people are just b!^@hing to b!^@h instead of seeing the progress. It is getting better.

  27. News flash- we are not Alabama or one of the other top teams. This isn't going to happen overnight. Many issues are being fixed. We are definitely getting better. The immediate drunken knee jerk reaction when things don't go perfectly is annoying. Some fans in the stadium today were outright embarrassing. One group was chanting smothers early in the first quarter. Same group was booing when CTB was sent out to field a punt. The muff was not his fault in any way but people were screaming at him and Frost for it. People need to be realistic and enjoy a great win. If you just want to be mad to be mad, stay home.

  36. The grades confirm what we saw. Defense played well. Clark struggles in the passing game on the back end and Robinson graded low against the run. Good news, a lot of that D production will be back next year. 39. The Covid vaccines we have here have been shown to reduce transmission. Even if it's only due to the time an individual is infected. That reduces the odds of spread. But it's also been shown to reduce spread via the vaccinated since not ever vaccinated exposed to Covid can even transmit. Think of it this way. If everyone in the US was vaccinated the spread of the virus would become virtually nil in no time. And because there are not a lot of hosts for the virus to infect, replicate, and then that host continue to spread the virus, the chances of mutation are greatly reduced. It's a numbers game. The virus is mutating all the time. Most mutations in nature are not advantageous to the mutant and soon the disappear. A few help. In the case of Covid, the Delta variant was a mutation that helped because it made it far more contagious. The viral load is what, something like 1200 times greater than the original Covid. Vaccines still are effective with the Delta variant thankfully. Maybe not long term but for the short term. Think of the viral transmission in the US if there were no reliable vaccines and the Delta arrived. The spread would be like a wildfire with the virus constantly mutating. That's a situation where another even worse mutant is an even higher probability than what we have now with around 60% vaccinated, and far greater than if everyone was vaccinated. Of course there is a possibility that a virus will develop that the vaccines are marginally effective against. This is why a situation where you have say, 50 or 60% of the population vaccinated is tenuous. There's a lot of virus out there to mutate (from the unvaccinated) and a partially vaccinated population. This could potentially set-up the situation of a mutation "jumping" the vaccine. Then we'd be back to the drawing board. Same place we'd be if nobody was vaccinated though since what's the use of a vaccine if nobody uses it? If nobody uses a vaccine why develop a new one for a new variant? I guess someone could guess that such a variant would even be worse if it was a mutation that jumped the vaccine but it easily could wind up being less deadly too. An effective vaccination drive could have brought the R factor down, possibly at one time enough to drive Covid into the dust bin of history. That's now about as good of chance of....not going to say it this week https://wwwnc.cdc.gov/eid/article/25/1/17-1901_article A little bit on R factor.

  40. There is an official box score and the box score says the penalty was on 85 at the bottom of the screen. Doesn’t matter though because the possible guy from the top doesn’t run into anyone in a way that would generally be called. Both his guys start running with him like they’re guarding him. It was a bail out call by the refs and overall just terrible.

  48. The good: AM played well. Speed looks to be back to AM 1.0 Toure-Great get for sure. Need Martin, Manning, Betts, Falck to get back/step up. Will help a lot to not repeat an offense that is JD, then Wan'dale now Toure Reimer-Great motor Henrich- Starting to show why he was recruited Hickman-Unsure how we hold up at 215 lbs as a blocker, but shouldn't be worse than the rest of the OL. Stepped up in the passing game Loved the 2 back said and option when Smothers was in. Maybe in honor of the game of the century we run that as our base next week with the starters....I guy can dream. Bad: OL play-without improvement we have no passing game, no running game, no chance ST-Let Culp sit. We can't get worse in the kicking game THE REFS-The illegal forward pass. The PI against Hickman and on and on No idea (other than coaches) that D is improving at all 3 levels and O isn't I'll take the win. Lowest points allowed since 2011. Have held last 7 opponents to less than 400 yrds per game. The defense is improving and will keep us in some games. Hard (if not impossible) to make up for a poorly perfomring offense and no ST play though. We had 4 plays today over 50 yards. Those helped a lot. We can't depend on those to score. Need the OL/RB (and play calling) play to get the tough yards when needed.

  49. Four of our top eight WRs/TEs missed at least the better part of the game (mostly all of it). We left 23 points out on the field. We won in a blowout. There is still plenty to work on but that's not too shabby.
