  1. We may not be far off from "crazy success" under Frost I recognize Illinois was a horrible loss. Since then we have lost by 13 combined points to 3 teams now in the top 10.....Oklahoma, Michigan State and Michigan. Two of those were road games. We've had issues on the offensive line and special teams. We still play Ohio State and Iowa. Iowa is #2 now. As Frost continues to build this thing, and as competitively as we've played recently, it isn't far fetched to see "crazy success" as our offensive line and special teams get addressed the rest of this season and into next season. We're pretty flippin' good right now. And will get even better

  2. • This team is making big strides. • The strength and fight in particular are light years beyond any team since Pelini. • Frost should stay. We could have an extremely good team next year.

  3. When we lose big, and when we have bad coaches, all we hear from the fans is, "I don't expect the 90's, but I expect to not get embarrassed. We don't have to win every game, but I"ll be satisfied if we can at least play tough, limit mistakes, and look like we belong." Then we play tough, we limit mistakes, we look like we belong, we're competitive, and all the fans do is b!^@h and have the most hilariously stupid overreactionary hot takes. We played a hell of a football game tonight and it didn't go our way. Absolute gut punch, but at least personally the final score isn't the final say in how I feel about this team. It's Nebraska, after all. "Not the victory, but the action" is allegedly supposed to mean something. Means something to me. Hopefully we can brake this snakebit curse, but as long as those boys keep playing with this amount of intensity, desire and focus, I can handle whatever the W-L column says.

  5. He may seem more upbeat because of two reasons. 1.) He understands what is going on is paranormal type situation, there is something bigger going on that has grasps against the program and it’s going to take something spiritual to get rid of it. And 2.) He knows how close we are and how much improvement has actually taken place. It’s heartbreaking that it results in another loss, but the progress is clearly there and things are close to happening. As painful as it is, we were told in year 1 this was a 5 year rebuild.

  9. We had lead with 5 minutes left and our d couldn't stop them. The d couldn't stop Oklahoma when it needed to either. Listen, this D is great, but lets not rewrite reality here. They could have sealed the win for us yesterday as well, and they didn't. All parts of the team played very well yesterday, we should be proud of them. But as in every game, there were plays that made us almost win and there were plays that made us almost lose and you can't just pick the ones that fit a narrative.

  10. I know you've already been called on this by others and deservedly so, but whether anyone believes Martinez is the answer or needs to ride pine one thing is certain. This young man has put his heart and soul, blood, sweat, and tears into this team. He reps the university and the state with the utmost in class and dignity even after gut wrenching losses. We need more people like Adrian Martinez in the world. And yet you see fit to call him "Taco boy"?

  11. Nebraska has lost to Michigan, Michigan State and Oklahoma-- 3 teams now that are 18 -0 together-- by a total of 13 points.

  12. To be honest if that’s true then I am pretty concerned about the status of our program. Is the rest of the team that bad that we need Martinez to lose close games instead of getting blown out? How can you say we are on the doorstep to turning the corner as a team then also say we get blown out without Martinez? I don’t think one player should make that big of a difference if we truly are close as a TEAM. So if Martinez leaves after this year- your saying next year we fall off the map and are not good anymore? Again that’s a huge problem, it seems every team we play can go 2-3 deep on QB spot when they play us and execute just fine. So are we doing horrible job developing and recruiting?

  13. Six wins is still doable. Get Purdue. Get Minnesota next week. And I actually think we're a darn good chance at Wisconsin, which I wouldn't have thought a month ago. I also think there's still an upset coming.... the odds have to change for us eventually.

  14. No room for error now. If we drop one to Minnesota or Purdue, the bowl door closes and it's just another disappointing, underachieving season.

  15. 1. Michigan has some GREAT RBs. Not good- GREAT. Those guys ran HARD- they were stopped short on third down twice and kept fighting for first downs where they ultimately scored on the drive and wouldn’t have had they went down. Kudos to them 2. While I think Michigan is very very good- if they want to be elite they need to let McCarthy step in at QB and see what he can do 3. NU wore down a defense and quite frankly Michigan had zero answers for NU in the second half. People can say what they want but I was very confident in us getting into FG range if we didn’t turn it over (oops) on that second to last drive 4. Oliver Martin really helps our receiving corps out A LOT. He’s extremely reliable and makes tough catches. Plus- he catches punts and saves us field position. The one fair catch caught inside the 10 was tough but he knew it right away which was good to see 5. I loved Yant being benched for messing up the direction he ran on the handoff. Mental mistakes like that cannot happen 6. We ran a few swing passes and.. nobody got mad because they gained yards 7. Defense needs a pair of pass rushing OLBs/DEs. Been calling for it for over 5 years it feels like. It’s the one thing holding us back from being elite IMO and part of the reason that while we tend to get off the field in “normal” situations- we struggle mightily in “obvious passing” situations 8. Damion Daniels is a DUDE 9. Tackling has gotten much much better. Like A LOT 10. Without it coming off as revisionist history- I didn’t like going for it on the first drive the second time. I will say however- that play is one of NU’s “bread and butter” plays. QB sweep to the right has been something we’ve run in goal to go/short yardage situations all year long and repeatedly had success with (AM had 2 TD runs on that play last weekend). Rahmir didn’t get a great block on their edge defender and he made a great play to stop AM short. That stuff will happen when you’re playing a top 10 team- credit to UM for standing tall 11. If NU continues to play with that level of effort and energy- we’re going to beat a lot of teams. I’m absolutely distraught at how that game ended but don’t let the ending take away the overall level that NU played at. Nebraska is a dang good football team. I don’t know what caused the corner to be turned but it’s fun to see. Now it’s time to build on this, pummel a bad Minnesota team into oblivion, and get a well deserved off week after that. Overall I’m proud of the way NU played in this one and if you’re not then I don’t know what else you were expecting that would’ve satisfied you (other than the final result being a W- which we all obviously wanted too)

  17. Whining about the refs is lame. Yes Adrian screwed up but we aren't in the game without him so whining about him being the worst thing ever is lame also. Pretty much I hate whining. That was a damn good team we played, they made more plays. Tip your cap and move on.

  18. Adrian Martinez is the biggest Greek tragedy in NU history. I love the guy, but it's amazing how bad s#!t happens to him all the time.

  19. There’s is no doubt that we are improving. Obviously not in the W-L category, but to the eyeball test. I look at our team and think we have a lot of the right pieces, maybe all of them, but the recipe isn’t working or is missing something. What is it. The one piece(s) that could fix it. On defense, I’d go with an edge rusher. A guy who would demand a double team that could make things happen without sending extra guys. We rush 3-4 and can still cause havoc. A guy who makes teams keep a RB in on passing downs..... On offense, as a run the ball guy, a bell cow RB who can get YAC and who has a knack for always falling forward and getting yards..Rex, AA, in recent memory excelled at that. An offensive identity. 12 personnel as our base. Counters and traps, option (triple and RPO). Stick with it. Get very good at it. The second half play calling was night and day better. Just be a very physical team..... We are just so friggin close. So instead of a what’s wrong thread, a “what can we do to fix it thread”. Maybe it’s the same thing.....I’m at a loss.

  20. Sympathy for a Husker... a man named Scott Frost. This is not about whether or not Frost should stay on with The Red on whether he is or isn't a good football coach. This is not about the decades-long frustration of Husker fans who have had to endure years of disappointment from seeing an elite program slide deep into the middle pack. This is not about who should be playing and what the strategies are and how recruiting is going. This is about simple human empathy and compassion for a human being — Scott Frost. The look on his face as the game ended was chilling. You could feel his deep pain from Coast to Coast even if you weren’t a Husker fan. To be teased like this – again! – only to watch the dream disappear right in front of your eyes. Just when you thought that the ‘corner’ that everyone wants so badly to turn would finally be made — just another level of agony tossed upon the already heavy weight of so much ruination. You have to feel for this man. Does anyone think he wanted to come home to Nebraska and have things go like this? Does anyone think he likes the taste of losing? Does anyone think that having your future with your home program up for debate every moment is something he longed for? Does anyone think about what losing does to the people around him? This is just about having compassion for a fellow human being whose look on his face at the end of the Michigan game says it all... ‘Oh God, not again. Why? Why? What can happen next? Can I even believe any of this any more?’ It’s just football, Scott. Sure it’s huge in this State. But it’s still just a game. And as vital as this game is to the State of Nebraska, there are things even bigger.

  21. Losing is losing. You can sprinkle whatever you want on a loss. At the end of the day, a loss is a loss. And many of our losses have come down to poor coaching and decision making, clock management errors, etc. If you’re in a management position, and you have an employee who has performed not below average but poor for 4 years straight. Are you really going to keep him around? Because the big wigs above you as the manager might not like that decision. And then it’s your behind that’ll reach boiling point sooner rather than later. The silver lining through all this is IF Scott is let go it will be about wins and losses. So, really they’ve got to get to a bowl game this year or he’s finished, IMHO. Media wouldn’t scold Nebraska for making a dumb decision they would say, “hmm, makes sense. 4 straight losing seasons will get any coach fired.” This is eerily similar to Kliff Kingsbury at Texas Tech where it didn’t work out for him either. And guess what? That’s OK! You move on, you find a new coach who’s experienced and will make this state proud without all the hype and cheerleading speak and boasting. We need a coach who’s no nonsense and a disciplinarian. A Big Ten team is identified as a team that’s well coached, doesn’t make mistakes, doesn’t turn the ball over, master of fundamentals. Just go take a look at Iowa FFS!

  22. I’m not happy but at least content from yesterday. However, If we don’t beat Minnesota can the moral victory s#!t & and we are getting better crap it’s time for Frost to clear his desk.

  23. At this point I'm convinced that the people that want to see him fired are the same ones that have set this program on the path it's been on for 18 years now. Stability is going to be far better then pretending we can hire Saban from Bama and instantly be NC contenders or something equally as make-believe. I sure hope Trev has the stones to tell the fans calling for firings where they can stick their opinions on the coaching staff.

  34. After Michigan the narrative from objective analysts will continue to be “Nebraska is dangerous.” Two years ago it was just embarrassing. We are definitely turning a corner. Last night was tough. Very very tough. But I was in it, rooting for these kids and coach and not flipped to another game by mid 2nd quarter like other years. Frost’s team is miles ahead of anything Riley had. I don’t care about record for Riley vs Scott. The former’s teams were as soft as the ice cream they ate after a blowout loss. We’ve been competitive in every game. I believe we will start winning these games soon. Let’s take care of Minny. We’re not sneaking up on anyone now. We are a legitimate threat. We all want that legitimacy to turn to more wins. I believe it will.

  38. Teams like Nebraska win in most of the statistics except for one, wins and losses. Iowa loses in many (ok, except for turnovers) of the statistics, except one, wins and losses. The Nebraska players have skill and plenty of heart, but where it really lacks in in the coaching staff. You guys are not wrong in wanting change, even if it is just with some assistants. If that does not work, Frost may have to go. They played well and deserved to win last night.

  39. I would recruit a transfer QB to compete for the starting spot. It could cause Smothers to transfer, though. If Nebraska doesn't make a bowl game this year, I don't think Frost can afford another losing season, so he better be confident that Smothers can get it together fast if he sticks with him.

  40. Agreed! We get OSU and Iowa at home and I don't think this team is bothered by rankings at this point.....they can play with anybody! We'll beat one of those two and win against Minny, Wisky and Purdue. Or how about we just win the rest of them and finish 8-4?!

  42. As great as you think the 80’s were, the reality of it is, we were in the Big 8. Us, Oklahoma, and six joke teams. The college football of now, it completely different than the 80’s. Nebraska can’t be one of those overnight stories. We are not in a recruiting hotbed. It takes time to build the program.

  43. Every game this season we been competitive, win or lose the game before. Illinois really stings now, but our team has been competitive against 3 top 10 teams. Coulda maybe won each one. Been a long long time since we were in these games. I’m so confident of our team right now.

  48. Are you on crack? We aren’t in any of these games without him. Fine, you want to get rid of his untimely turnovers and sacks, you also have to get rid of everything he does to keep us in these games. He’s the best we have by a mile and probably will be next year also if he returns. Yeah it hurts to lose games the way we do but we’re getting blown out without him.
