  1. Right. $5M+ Salary Top notch facilities when current project is completed Rabid fan base that still fills the 85k+ stadium every game even with 6 losing seasons the last 7 years Full support of AD to be successful 11th nationally in recruiting spending which could be higher So I guess no coach would come here with all that working against him. LOL

  2. 4-8 is now the level of the bar to retain a coach who would then end up 16-28 (36.4%) through 4 years? My, how times have changed. Pathetic.

  3. The bigger question is where is Yant? 7.5 yards per carry, dude should have 100 carries by now.

  4. Honestly, this, more than anything tells me we are a consistant kicking game, and a right side of the line away from where we want to be. Martinez is also an issue. He unfortunately gives us the best chance to win or lose the game. So consistency at the QB postion (which I maintain is a symptom of a faulty line) 2 lineman upgrades, and a kicking game, from undefeated. I know this post will get all sorts of laughing emojies from the scrap everything dudes, but its the truth. We were so much better offensively with Benhart on the sidelines.

  5. I agree. It's laughable that some fans think Frost should be given a chance to make staffing changes as justification to get a 5th year. Do they not realize Frost has had the ability to make staffing changes all along and chose not to? This staff and these players are all what he built. Moos did not pick the staff for him nor did he pick the players.

  6. Frost has gotten us into this statistical neighborhood, but he's also cost us games with poor clock management, baffling play-calling, and failure to develop depth at QB. I don't know where I'm at on the Keep Frost/Fire Frost debate. But there's plenty of ammo for either argument.

  7. When Sipple becomes critical (he was yesterday) then you can assume that the seat is much warmer than you think. I have always viewed Sipple as the mouthpiece of the Athletic Department. Once he starts to get critical and talk of "the end" well that usually means he was given the greenlight to do so.

  8. I like Petersen, Stoops, Fickell and Campbell but am really struggling with some calling out Clawson. Here are some stats on Clawson: In 5 years at Fordham he finished 29-29 In 4 years at Richmond he finished 29-20 In 5 years at Bowling Green he finished 32-31 Prior to this season, his record at Wake Forest was 40-45 I get that WF looks really good this season, but overall his head coaching record reminds me a lot of Mike Riley's...hovering around .500 or slightly above.

  10. Let me preface. Scott Frost has been disappointing, obviously. I did say whoever we hired in 2018 should get 5 years regardless of the results unless we were winning 2 games a year and losing by 30+ this and previous seasons. I know we all hate the close losses, but it does show improvement whether people want to admit it. Teams who can 'break through' usually have close losses the year prior and show a good SO/JR class - which we have. I give him the ultimatum of a bowl game or he is 100% let go. I think even himself would agree with that at this point. 1. 2021 is the toughest schedule Nebraska has ever had that I'm aware of - the only game that is complete garbage is losing to Illinois in the opener. No excuses for that one. I do think we are a slightly better or on par with Minnesota (starts 5 SR O-lineman) and Purdue (who has 2 All-Americans). We beat the other 3 teams who we clearly are better than Buffalo, Fordham, Northwestern. We still have to play a top 5 Ohio St team, and more than likely a 8-3 ranked Iowa team and ranked 7-3 Wisconsin. 2. The free covid year helped all teams including Nebraska, but I think next year will be a tougher step for any team as the B10 is loaded with 5th/6th year seniors and 4th/5th year juniors this season. Taking away transfers and draft status Nebraska can return 10/11 offensive starters. Losing Toure will hurt but we still have some solid WR behind him along with TE Allen, Voke and will add in a big playmaker in Fidone. The offensive line started 2-3 freshman this season and having them all back only helps as it is hard to be an OL as a young player especially in the B10. RB is still up in the air but Johnson and Yant have been decent the last few weeks, get Ervin back and a full year of Stepp. Can also look for a transfer or juco possibly. The main question mark is obviously Martinez. Does he come back? Do we want him to come back? If not, do we need a transfer or can Smothers/Haarberg take that step? 3. The defense loses some key pieces but the main core remains. JoJo, D Will, Dismuke, Stille and I assume CTB are gone. I feel real good about the 3 Nebraska kids in Reimer, Henrich and Nelson. Robinson, Rogers, D Thomas, Daniels can all return. Maybe another year Riley helps him as well and we haven't seen Hutmacher yet. Payne, Tannor, Kolaravic and even maybe Honas return at LB as well. The secondary to me could be shaky and I think we for sure look at transfers and juco market there, Farmer and Newsome have a good amount of experience at this point. 4. The 2022 schedule lines up to have more wins as we drop Ohio St and Michigan St and replace with Rutgers and Indiana. Our bye week is also after game 6 and not game 7 before heading to Ann Arbor. We have a real chance to start 5-2 or 6-1. 5. Fire Greg Austin and there is no doubt the offense line improves which is vital to any teams success. There are some rumblings of not retaining Held or Coach Verdu, but I would keep Held for now and replace a special team coordinator in Verdu's spot. Will he be able to overcome the close losses to stupid plays and penalties? Maybe not. But I think if we can look good next year there could be some good success in the near future. The only somewhat intriguing realistic as of now HC candidates to me would be Chadwell from Coastal Carolina or Josh Gattis the OC from Michigan. Bill O'Brien would be an okay hire if possible. Fickell isn't coming here. Campbell isn't coming here. Some random NFL coach isn't coming here. To me the only coach that I could see that possibly would take the job and I would be okay with at this point is Chris Petersen. I wanted Nebraska to go after him hard in 2015 and we settled for Riley. With that said I hope Frost gets one more season even though I see why some don't think he deserves it. Gets to 8-4 and we start to look like a football team. He has proven that our guys have gotten bigger and stronger than 2015 and that we can compete with anyone, literally. Just can we win against anyone? That's the question. Oklahoma 8-0 Michigan St 8-0 Ohio St 8-0 Michigan 7-1 Minnesota is about to 7-2 and has a chance to win the West Wisconsin will be ranked when we play them and more than likely wins the division again Purdue is 5-3 and has played actually pretty well this year Iowa will be ranked when we play them and could be or 9-2 or 8-3 when we play Played 3 top 10 teams far all who still have a chance at the playoff to 1 score. I get these aren't wins, but he has proven we can play. Now gotta fix the dumb stuff and win some of those games. I think he can. #GBR

  11. The absolute lack of offensive identity is something that weighs heavy on me on why we should move on. I never expected that. We were to put up points and lose some shootouts. The lack of discipline and player development on the offensive side is the dagger. That was not to happen whatsoever and it has. I was willing to give it a shot and it has just flopped. We need to run the ball and play intimidating defense. The complimentary skill players are then brought in to go from good to great. We built this thing backyards and it painfully shows.

  12. When you are getting your a$$ kicked by teams like Ill, Minn & Purdue who are the "easier" teams on your schedule it's hard to get too excited about how much better next year will be. Four years of the same crap with a 36.4% winning percentage, I've seen enough.

  13. If we lose 2-3 more games, IDK how they could even possibly justify keeping him. 2-8 or 1-9 against power 5 schools is an auto-firing at Nebraska.

  14. Offensive and Defensive efficiency is just another useless data point if we are not getting wins. Poor special teams, untimely turnovers, dumb penalties, etc... all tie back to team discipline which is part of the culture that the head coach is supposed to instill. We are 4 years in and do not have a winning culture.

  15. Ok, today for lunch I tried the Chli and Cinnamon roll combo. I went to a Braum's ice cream/burger store in Tulsa and got the chili and then went to Panera and purchase the cinnamon roll. Braum's is a regional store - they have stores within 250 miles of their 10,000 cattle - milk production facility outside of OKC. (Great place if you see one if you are in the area) I tried it several ways. (1) dunk the roll into the chili - draw back is the chili covers up the roll too much. (2) eat the chili and then eat the c roll. I'm a salty tooth person so I immediately had to have more chili to cover up the sweet tooth. (3) Eat the cinnamon roll first than chase it down wt chili - match made in heaven. If I eat ice cream I always have to have something salty afterwards. So # 3 was perfect for me. I liked the combination. A great 'meal' for a cold Nov day.

  16. Ha! No s#!t! I have never understood this. Even if you are making great money as a top level OC/DC now you are getting a winning lotto ticket where you get every cent of that 25-35 million dollar contract. Or people will be like, "he is already making 3.5 million a year, why would he want to come to NU for 5 million a year". Ummmm...because that is 1.5 million dollars more a year??? Most of us would go kill our boss and burn the the building right now to take a job for 10K more a year.

  17. I don’t think he does either. A change doesn’t guarantee either short or long term success. Of course, nether does retention, but it may be the best path forward if you don’t have a home run hire secured.

  21. While the OP had valid points “on paper” we should have been winning our division “on paper”. But results are measured on the field and in 4 years Frost has shown he does not have answers and doesn’t measure up. His post game press conference was enough evidence

  22. The schedule thing is overblown. This schedule had some good teams but we are ranked 18th for SoS in 2021. Lots of teams with good records with harder schedules, including Purdue. 2009 was actually the hardest at #5 overall per this ranking. https://www.teamrankings.com/college-football/ranking/schedule-strength-by-other?date=2010-01-08 I know you want it to work, but it's not going to happen. Giving him next year would be a mistake.

  24. Strongly disagree with your last point. You can't win games you aren't in to begin with. Just because we don't win the close ones doesn't mean it isn't a better position to be in. An L is an L at the end of the day I will give you that but having a gameplan to keep it close isn't lame football

  25. No way. Getting beat down in a blowout sucks. I'd rather the team be in it until the end and have a chance. Those years where Callahan, Bo, and Riley getting blownout were awful. Even Frost with Michigan the first year. You can't find many positives with getting blownout, but theres always a little glimmer of hope if they can keep it close.

  27. What's the new stat making the rounds? Scott Frost teams have gotten the ball with 4 minutes or less and the chance to tie or take the lead 15 times, and 14 times they came away with zero points. That's a hard one to get your head around, too.

  28. This tells me we are the most underperforming team around. Yay coaching!

  29. The ONLY way the fan base would be OK with this is if there's major changes in the program with assistants...etc. If Frost is retained, the fan base needs to be given something major that the program can hang it's hat on that would show the fan base...a) we don't like where we are at...and b) we are willing to do XYZ to get better. Just telling the fan base that everything is fine...trust us....isn't going to cut it.

  31. I'm not saying this about our situation. We obviously have not been successful any year under Frost and if a change needs made, so be it. But, looking at some of these others, I contend that many times programs get rid of good coaches too soon and don't let them even attempt to bounce back and build a program from one or two slightly down years. Mullen went 10-3, 11-2, 8-4 and now is 4-4. Three of those losses are to Alabama, Georgia and Kentucky 21-3. I just don't buy into the, "win now or you're gone" mentality. Coaches no longer have time to build a program with consistent coaching.

  32. Buckeye here ( I come in peace ). I really like Nebraska and always will for what they did last year. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if this was a very close game. I also could see a blow out simply because I do wonder how much is in the tank. Either way, I hope it is a fun time.

  33. Did you need your coaches to do that? I played. Nobody needed to motivate me or make me want to rip an opponents head off. I was already motivated by getting to play the great game of football. I think coaches need to motivate players in practice to go their hardest when needed and strive to be the best they can be. If you need to get kids motivated to play on TV in front of 90k people there is a huge problem.

  34. Frost for me is very much like dating a super hot chick that keeps cheating on me, and here I sit hoping he gets another year. I just want it to work so f#&%ing bad......

  35. We had the ball the final 4 minutes under Frost in 16 games. 16 times to either win, tie or take the lead. We only scored once......One time in 16 opportunities....Play calling, scheme, player development. In the red zone, how many times did we run both AA and Vokolek? How many times were they targeted? The rhino package (AA, Vok, Brewington and Teddy) was used against OU at the goal line. Never to be seen again....Minnie comes to mind..... If look at the metrics, it's not crazy. It's pitiful....We beat Fordham (5-3 Patriot League), Buffalo (4-4 MAC) and NW (3-5, 1-4 B1G)......

  40. Here is my list of potential replacement coaches. I want somebody with proven head coaching experience which is why I have not included any assistants on the list. While I think there are situations where an assistant can turn out great, given where this program stands we need somebody that is more of a sure thing so I am a bit more risk averse. This list includes 11 names and I know there are other good names out there, but I would hope that Trev would at least make outreach to some of these guys. The one name not getting much attention in the overall coaching carousel that I think is intriguing is Kalen DeBoer. Any coach that can go 67-3 in any league is a winner to me (referring to his 5 years at Sioux Falls). Names not currently coaching college ball (all not likely): Bob Stoops Chris Petersen Urban Meyer Bill OBrien Names currently coaching P5: Matt Campbell Lane Kiffin Dave Doeren Names currently coaching (non-P5) Luke Fickell Kalen DeBoer Billy Napier Jamey Chaldwell

  41. This was my first thought after reading the above posts. Dirk tried and got a hailstorm of hate from Nebraska fans. It's not that the media here is soft, it's that they're selling what people are buying.

  42. I'm sure Mario and Austin would be willing to stay. Same goes for any other assistants that are unlikely to garner interest due to a poor recent track record.

  43. Yup, I did imply that and I am wrong. There are about 6 others? Jimbo, Taggert, Cristobal, Diaz, Mullen, Frost, Kelly. I obviously misread something from earlier this year. If Frost is here in ‘22 it’s because he changes up his staff and/or Alberts realizes the department was in disarray and will give Frost what he needs.

  44. A few of the guys out there seem to lay it all on the line. I honestly dont think its an effort thing for a lot of the guys. Its a coaching issue. Guys arent put in spots to succeed at times. Of course other times it seems to be execution but I honestly believe we have talent and even the right mentality to win a lot more games. Its consistently bad gameplanning or in game coaching. I think Frost is just a bad coach. He surrounded himself with yes men or mediocre coaches. His ego doesnt let him see he needs help. I dont question Frosts heart. I think he truly wants it to be successful but he is in over his head. Adrians soph year and total lack of any viable QB options show me he cant get over what his intial though was. Adrian might be a great leader but he is a poor QB who makes constant mistakes and yet has only been benched once.

  47. Lots, you think the pressure at schools like USC and LSU are any easier? Each of the open positions have pro’s and con’s. Win here and you are a legend. The bar has never been lower. Win 6 games and go to a bowl and you are a hero! At USC and LSU if you don’t make the conference championship you may not get the plane ride home!
