  1. Hay guyz, we've got a lot of threads, I'm gonna fix it by starting yet another thread!

  2. It only gets better if Frost 1000% turns over the play calling and scheme to a proven OC. Yea Smothers put the ball on the ground and we had a blocked punt. But Frost 100 percent crapped his pants calling plays in this game.

  3. I don't think it will be. The schedule is more favorable but we only beat one P5 team this year and are losing a ton of talent so I wouldn't count on the schedule. Maybe we get a real ST coach which could have meant several more wins this year. Maybe our new OC will be allowed to call plays and not panic in the second half. But Frost will still be in charge and I'm not sure any of the above can overcome that large of a burden.

  4. 2 teams playing on tv right now for a college playoff spot... We had both beat but we're a couple players short. You are one of those players that could have won those two games. It's really not that hard imo.

  5. I'll add the Tad Stryker article here...Another honest, yet painful read about the miscues by Frost. https://www.si.com/college/nebraska/football/iowas-blocked-punt-td-prompts-frost-to-abandon-running-game-in-late-collapse Frost said the Huskers’ momentum disappeared after the blocked punt, and I agree, but it’s largely because Frost panicked and needlessly erased Jaquez Yant from the game plan. Ironically, Frost, who had done a great job scripting Smothers’ role in the game, got way off script after his midfield fumble early in the fourth quarter with the Huskers still leading 21-16. Yant rushed for 44 yards on 13 carries with one touchdown, yet Frost erased him. It was a huge unforced error, and it put needless pressure on Smothers, who to that point, had done a better-than-expected job in his debut as a starter. The Blackshirts stepped up and forced a three-and-out, and the Hawkeyes punted the Huskers back to their 7-yard line. At that point, Frost decided to roll the dice, shut down the running game and depend on the offensive line’s ability to pass block, the thing it is worst at doing. It quickly led to a two-point safety, closing the gap to 21-18. And after that, in the final 10 minutes of the game, Frost inexplicably called only two more running plays. Why?

  7. Get rid of Frost, Tom Herman as HC, Bill O'Brien as OC Erik Chinander DC I do not have a OL coach. Just make it happen Trev.

  8. It also invalidates claims of a previous LSU coach "being a great recruiter"..... My grandmother could recruit a top-15 class to LSU.

  9. One is a red shirt freshman with extremely limited in game experience. The other is a four year starter three time captain. And in the end they performed about the same So yes, Frost was wrong about AM being some irreplaceable piece even when hurt.

  10. Yep and you gotta be able to run between the tackles to punish defense for doing that. But we didn’t or can’t

  11. I also hate the “who are we gonna get that’s better”. Well 3-9 isn’t hard to beat

  12. 8-4 simply is not possible, my ceiling for this team is 6-6 next year. I know fans want to believe that we're 'close' because of 1 score losses, but many of them are late TDs to turn 14 point losses into 7 point losses (Purdue and Minnesota come to mind). This program, the direction, the recruiting, it's all abysmal. They need to fire Frost now, next seasons recruiting class can't be sacrificed just to continue the Frost experiment any more.

  13. For those that do not believe power running game can win these days, I offer up to you the final in the Ohio State (27) vs Michigan (42) game where Michigan used a power running attack to the tune of 41 attempts for 297 yards. What Nebraska ran in the past (50% power run, 25% option, 25% pass) can work again today. For those looking for more pass happy offense, maybe Bill Callahan is available, give him a ring.

  14. Top 3 teams in the B1G this year is a big round robin. Wisconsin's better than Nebraska, who's better than Purdue, who's better than Wisconsin.

  15. Do people honestly believe Nebraska could have just DECIDED to run the ball exclusively, impose our will and run out the clock for a win? You didn’t notice that Iowa has a defensive coordinator who was smart enough to scheme against that? smothers had an outstanding yards per attempt passing. Much better than our collective ypa rushing. we are not losing games because we pass too much. It’s well beyond that.

  16. Frosty will hire someone who can run his system. Arrogance. Nothing says that Chins will stay. If I were Chins, seeing 4 guys fired for really for no reason other than needing someone to take a dump on, i would be looking elsewhere. If Frost gets the O figured out and the defense takes a dump, Chins is out next year. With the current openings, I can see someone approaching Chins as a DC. Sean Snyder might be a good person or fit as Head coach here. He knows and has seen a program being built from nothing to something. He would at least run the ball and play defense, with a special teams that would be a factor.

  17. I honestly was thinking the same thing. Both Pelini and Harbaugh struggled to win the big game yet had great overall records and great conference records. Both have very strong personalities that rub many the wrong way. Back in 2014 Nebraska had much higher expectations so 9 wins was not good enough for Pelini to retain his job which is probably the same reason some had Harbaugh in the hot seat coming into this season. The biggest difference appears to be that Harbaugh has had the support of the administration where it appears Bo did not get much support. Unfortunately, expectations are now so low at Nebraska that many are happy with moral victories and the excitement to getting to a 6-6 or 7-5 record sometime down the road. I am still shocked Trev is sticking with a coach who has had 4 straight losing seasons and only beat one P5 team this entire season. I can pretty much guarantee Harbaugh would be gone by now at Michigan if he had similar results as Frost has had despite Harbaugh also being a favorite son.

  18. Please tell me how we had OSU beat? We never led in the game and in the 2nd half we’re down 2 scores for 25 of the 30 minutes.

  19. I fully agree. Michigan has a coach that sought to find any identify for his team and to stick with it. Nebraska's coach has no idea what he wants the teams identify to be, and just when the team is doing something well, he abandons it. After 39 minutes vs Iowa, Nebraska ran the ball over 80% of the time and had a 21-6 lead. For the final 21 minutes we passed the ball over 70% of the time and failed to score again.

  20. It has a lot to do with the quailty of coaching and execution, which is our actual problem, but go ahead and keep making these threads for the next 9 months. Almost every team wants to be able to run the ball when they need to.

  21. Let's cut through all of this talk of skill players. None of them matter unless we get real Offensive Linemen. It could be an OL coach? Not sure.

  24. So Adrian has crucial turnovers and can't get it done and he deserves to sit and doesn't have a clutch bone in his body. Smothers has backbreaking fumbles and seals the game with an interception and he could get the job done? What kind of insane double standard is that lol.

  25. Yeah it's seemed like that the moment he arrived. At Oregon and UCF he seemed to be loose and the "cool guy" and it showed in his play calling and amazingly his play calling mostly worked. Since he arrived in Lincoln it's like he has been straight serious business. I don't see any fun from him or excitement. But is that what you mean by being stuck in the 90s? That serious tone? Because his play calling or the way he has built this program is anything at all like the 90's. If we were anything like the 90's we would have an offensive line that could actually do something, a defense that refused to get mowed over when the game mattered, and a team that refused to let adversity ruin a game. He's all serious, looks to be having zero fun from the moment he arrived on campus, so before all the losing, next year he either needs to let loose and have fun and realize either he goes out having fun or his change in persona and going back to his old ways is what saves his career at Nebraska.

  26. Recruit after this season? Have you seen how they're recruiting CURRENTLY? It's already fallen off a cliff.

  27. It just feels like Frost “broke” somewhere back in the last few years… Like he forgot how to do the basics or he is so obsessed with the 1990s he can’t get out of his own way… like while at UCF he had fun and could be loose and do whatever… here he is would up tighter than Pelini..

  30. Watch us win the division next year lol I feel the sentiment but what if we pull a Northwestern? They have an awful season then bounce back when everyone thinks they are gonna be garbage and win the division. Thats what I see for us next season
    3 points
  31. Your line of thinking of "who does he hire" is so dumb. Trev will go out and pursue coaches who he would be interested in.
    3 points
  32. So basically what you’re saying is he needs to learn to coach!? I hope he does, but I’m certainly not optimistic. To aspire to having someone who “knows just enough to not beat themselves” is a pretty low bar. Unfortunately that low bar seems to still be out of reach for us.

  33. Smothers won't be able to run the ball 15-20 times a game next year, as a full-time starter. I like QB run game, but it needs to be a complement of the offense, not the base of the offense. Frost needs to be able to find a way to run with the I-backs. That starts with improving the talent in the running back room and improving the o-line.

  34. I think it will be mostly the portal. The portal is a different type of recruiting, HS recruiting is selling a dream, portal recruiting is selling a new chance. I think that is the easier sell.

  35. When a legacy athlete like Caleb Benning says this in his rivals interview you know you have an extremely tough job. Already lost the top 4 recruits in Nebraska for this cycle. https://nebraska.rivals.com/news/husker-legacy-caleb-benning-picks-up-an-offer-from-nebraska?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitter

  36. I don't know what more it's going to take for people to realize that Tom Herman is not going to come here as an OC, and you're plain delusional if you think he would. Heck, Tom Herman might not even come here if we offered him the HC job. The guy will have plenty of other better offers than OC at Nebraska.

  37. I can't believe we still try to talk sh!t about programs that use us as a doormat. We have winning records in the B1G against the power houses of Rutgers, Maryland and Indiana....Yea. We are in the tier with these schools. Thank Frost for this. And unsure which of these we would beat.

  38. Id gladly take iowas record over the last 10-15 years instead of ours. Probably shouldn't throw shade at a program that is head and shoulders better than us at nut cutting time.

  39. Kudos to Smothers. Played his heart out and really wanted to get us this game. I believe the play calling held us back in this second half more than anything. I won't fault him for that fumble as it didn't really lead to much and on the safety he had zero time to do anything before there was a guy in his face. Even on the INT it seemed the guy may have ran the wrong route or stopped when he looked to be breaking it to the endzone. But he was trying to make a play for his team and that is mostly due to inexperience. He could have maybe lived to fight another down but the pressure was on and I though he handled himself very well today. Whether he should start next year is up for debate but I liked what I saw out there from him. I still think we need a grad transfer to come in and take command of the offense as Smothers still needs some time to develop. I wouldn't be mad if we named him the starter next year, but I think there will be a better player in the portal.

  42. I know people keep saying we should get an OC/QB Coach combo....but I'm leaning towards an OC/OL Coach Combo. Go find the very best OL Coach available and build everything from ground up from there (culture, scheme, playcalling, etc.)

  45. This. People tend to think their half-baked opinions exist in a vacuum and they should be the sole arbiter…when Trev has boosters, Regents, and some fans that weren’t in favor of the decision. Plus this gives Trev more time to do an exhaustive search in the background and feel potential candidates out, it saves DoNU some money, and it also supports the narrative that we’re *THIS* close, which can be sold to recruits (regardless of your stance on it). So far Trev has done well in the role. Plus Trev May have to deal with Hoiberg’s contract and that’s a future consideration to keep in mind. As rich as our AD is, it’s still a non-profit that doesn’t use taxpayer money and has to keep finances in check.

  47. Maybe, but that's not really my point and I don't do Twitter so I wouldn't know--or really care about a Twitter poll. This whole thread screams Frustrated Fan venting. I get that, but on HB--at least with the usual posters that I've seen, the overwhelming majority, even his "defenders" knows Frost needs to make major changes in order to be employed a year from now. Frost is back next year no matter what. Some of us want him to (finally) figure it out and turn things around. Some are convinced he will fail and are counting the days until we get to take a chance on the next guy in '23. In either case it's likely going to be at least a couple more years until we get to the next step on the way to where we want to be. If it's Scott, great. If a change needs to be made in a year, I'll go along with that too. Something really concerns me...When was the last time, the "next guy" worked out for us? That's pretty much how I look at it.
