  2. I understand what you are saying but you love to throw out these sayings and long posts like you are an expert. It gets old.

  3. Looks like someone googled "things the coaches say to their players which the players just ignore".

  6. the merry go round sucks. Masker, Smothers for sure, maybe even Torres, although he sits where ever he goes. Thompson is too cocky for my money, if his thumb doesn't heal, who knows?

  7. Suggesting that any adult is "relatively powerless" when it comes to becoming a productive and successful individual is laughable at the very least, and probably offensive to those groups at it's worst. .

  8. I would argue the need for being introspective could go both ways.

  9. Which LB coach are you criticizing, as the LB's are split across 2 coaches? I get that transfers suck, especially after recruits have been brought in and haven't done much. Jackson Hannah was never going to do anything for NU (he couldn't put on any size and muscle), Honas is a 7th year ILB with 2 bad knees, and Ho'olli wasn't making any progress at OLB. It would be nice if NU were able to add quality depth, but I don't know if these guys were going to do it for NU anytime soon.

  10. They have tried. Haven’t gotten a ton of traction because any half decent OL is getting a better offer. Everyone wants better day 1 ready OL. same thing with DL. We wanted some guys but missed out on everyone good.

  11. Maybe the coaches haven't pursued OL very hard because 1. Riola wants to see what he is working with and 2. Frost and the other coaches think that there is a lot more talent/ability then what we fans think

  12. Well…..well…..he came here from Texas and his dad (a cocky OU player) beat Nebraska and and he was cocky enough to use the portal and….that’s about it. Some people are just never happy.

  14. Encouraging people to take responsibility for themselves is one thing; using that to conveniently ignore or disproportionately care less about abuses/disadvantages/unfairness of systems, infrastructure and culture is another. I'm a huge fan of individual responsibility; I'm also a huge fan of diagnosing and fixing why two separate irresponsible people can have dramatically different life results, and why two separate responsible people can as well. As far as asian cultures and their "model minority" success in America, that's a highly complex and multi-faceted topic. The successes are easy to graph and document, the costs of that success aren't as easy. Things like internalized shame and dishonor, as well as unimaginable burdens of pressure and stress of expectations placed upon young Asian people are as widespread as their high earnings and academic performance. Another thing to think about, although I don't know if there's much research on this, is that there's a "purifying" self-selection process at work in cultures who are only coming here voluntarily. Large portions of the black population in America has generational ancestry going back to hundreds of years of slave trade by force. Large portions of the hispanic population are driven by desperation for any available work and geographical proximity. Most of the asian people coming here and staying are the smartest and/or richest and/or most resourceful, which leads to a very understandable selection bias and high social performance. There *is* a conversation to be had about healthy cultures producing healthy results, no matter what skin color or background somebody has. But it's a very difficult conversation to have in good faith because it's nearly always lacking in nuance and the right questions and too often is full of unnecessary blame.

  15. Based on how you finished with the ….Hmm, you sound concerned? Don’t be. Nothing to see here. Honas was going to struggle seeing time and Wynden was a Tuioti guy. Not surprised at all with him leaving.

  17. I haven't heard about anything in the Georgia voting law that made me think it was bad. It doesn't mean there is not something in there that is bad and I don't know it. Maybe this isn't the right topic thread for asking, but feel free to post what's bad about the law. The Texas law on the other hand had some items in there that where not good, but I think they ended up removing them...not sure about that however.

  18. Okay just wanted to make sure we're on the same page that he never actually said the election, "probably won’t be legitimate" and that's just your interpretation of what he meant. Cool carry on.

  19. I think, as a general rule, someone that accuses others of "throwing out the race card" and that all other people's discussions "come down to race" probably should be a little more introspective.

  20. It’s been posted twice: I mean, sure, but — I’m not going to say it’s going to be legit. It’s — the increase and the prospect of being illegitimate is in direct proportion to us not being able to get these — these reforms passed If the election takeover bill isn’t passed an illegitimate election is in direct proportion to that not being passed. His own words. your welcome

  21. Have you compared the GA and TX bills to some Democrat state control election laws? It will be enlightening for you

  22. "Election takeover bill"....lol. yeah let's make sure those states that historically, and currently, suppress voting rights aren't held to democratic standards. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.businessinsider.com/freedom-to-vote-act-john-lewis-voting-rights-bill-explainer-2022-1%3famp

  23. Ya, I actually already posted that. Again, Biden says if the election takeover bill (look what it all entails) isn’t passed, the election probably won’t be legitimate. This isn’t true, and the election takeover bill is much much much more than what you think.

  24. To clarify for anyone who doesn't read the article, he was freshman of the year in 2019, not currently. He is a 4th year player in 2022, with 2 years eligibility remaining, so not as young as the title makes him seem. Just an FYI.

  25. If the people counting the votes are counting all the legal votes only then it doesn’t really matter if they are Allie’s are not. Just need to follow the law. Sounds like we agree The electorates shouldn’t be overruled when the election is fairly run. Sounds like we agree. none of this really has to do with Biden pre-questioning the 2020 election and the election takeover bill.

  26. Exactly. Can't praise the transfer portal one day and then bemoan when guys leave NU in the transfer portal the next.

  30. Great post. Maybe I'm missing it, but the conversation of the benefits of a healthy culture, and how counterproductive/harmful black American culture can be, doesn't seem to be had all that often. If there is an attempt to have that conversation, it is often met with, including on here, accusations of being racist and a whole lot of virtue signaling. I happen to think culture, and individual decisions play a much bigger role in determining success than anecdotal evidence of racism, or whatever bit of institutional racism that might be left over in small pockets of this country. Wouldn't it be more productive to focus on the things that can be fixed with individual effort, rather than becoming fixated on the occasional white guy who doesn't want to give you a job?

  31. https://ifstudies.org/blog/less-poverty-less-prison-more-college-what-two-parents-mean-for-black-and-white-children Much bigger factor in a child’s success than any of the race baiters want to admit. It’s why I will say again, I would rather be from a two parent any race home then a single parent white home.

  33. An example of this….My oldest boy is extremely smart in the math and sciences aspect of school. Each spring from second through 5th grade he would attend a Saturday test for the School District to test out of the next grade level math course. They would eventually get four years ahead on their math credits. Of the room full of students doing this ( hundreds across the district and various grades) I would guess 70% were East Asian or kids whose parents came from India. It was pushed very hard in those communities. Maybe 20% were white and the rest Black or Hispanic.

  34. Tell you what, I have a black man across the street, a Mexican American one house over and a Mexican American two houses down. I will ask them this question, if they would rather have a do over and be white, along my new Vietnamese neighbor next door. Me, I’d rather just be the way I have always been. it’s what I know, it’s what God intended me to be. Now, would I notice anything different if I grew up black in my hometown (not all of Kansas is the exact same, you may not know this). I’m quite sure I would. Being in the 10% minority would feel strange at times I would guess. Just like if I was white and grew up in a 90% black neighborhood. However, in my hometown, the black kids grew up just the same as the white kids. Many of the families still live there after HS and graduating college. That seems telling.

  35. Tommie Frazier was one of the cockiest players and biggest a-holes Nebraska football has ever seen. Many of his teammates couldn't stand the guy. But, he got the best out of his teammates, and he backed up everything he said. If Thompson ends up being anywhere close to what Frazier was like for NU, I will take it.

  36. I'd rather have a cocky qb than a guy who buckles under pressure. There are very few Kurt Warner qbs out there. Those that are awesome (rodgers, brady, mahomes) tend to be pricks on the field.

  37. There is an extremely well documented history of brutal racism in America, and reams of statistical and anecdotal evidence confirming that it hasn't gone away. The suggestion that Black grievance might go away if you show that Asians make more money than whites smacks of wishful thinking, and that's kind of a weird wish. If you honestly want my guess, having not read your research: we've had a few generations of Asians immigrating to the U.S. with advanced degrees and middle-class families. If South Asians from India are classified as Asians, that's definitely going to skew your numbers. People from Japan, China, India, Vietnam, Korea and The Phillipines definitely don't like getting lumped together as they have very different histories and cultural experiences. But some have done well by creating and spending money in their own insular communities in America, sometimes with their own touch of racism.

  38. I would agree that tribalism is the more accurate word. It's everywhere and takes on many forms. Racism is a little more visible because it's color coded. About the "simpler time": the theme that the right leaning nationalists have used so long and so well is that the dominant class in America (white, male, Christian) is having its power taken away by the Other (minorities, immigrants, gays, feminists, non-Christians). and thus America is losing its way. There is a fair amount of racsim baked into that, and it's often a blinkered and inaccurate memory. We forget that the "simpler time" was actually pretty horrible for a lot of people,. Some Republicans even think that by accusing people of playing the race card, they can get out of any discussion involving race.

  39. We haven't lost anyone who was even listed on the game day depth charts last year. Honas would have provided nice depth, but it's understandable he wants to find somewhere to go start.

  42. Agree...and completely why the "it's the only show in the state" has come to being a 1st class legit NIL thing for Nebraska as opposed to a previous take of, "this is what they all look forward to each week" comment

  44. Looks like another nice transfer pickup by Frost and his new staff. With NIL now being a thing, along with vast amount of support NU gets as it's the only show in the state, the transfer portal could be how Nebraska makes up for the challenges it faces in recruiting.

  45. We need to come out strong at the start of the season - no lapses or letdowns. Two of my biggest concerns with this team have been 1) the sloppy, undisciplined, penalty-plagued play; and 2) the lack of "fire" coming out of the tunnel. Other teams look like wild animals being released from their cages, or horses chomping at the bit just waiting for the gates to open... we look like we're sedated. It's been particularly troubling in games with early kickoffs. If we can come out crisp and strong and win some games and get some confidence, then the ball will start rolling. If we're not 3-0 when we face the Sooners - a guy who Thompson assuredly has a lot of confidence against - it will be a huge disappointment. Everyone assumes we'll be 3-0, but just remember we assumed the same thing last season and then proceeded to get our butts handed to us by the Illini and their backup QB.
