  1. Except that the Gorsuch and Barrett votes were about two COMPLETELY different issues. People objected to the Gorsuch vote because Mitch McConnell refused to let Obama appoint a judge for almost a year, which is and was garbage. That's why when Gorsuch came up, Democrats rejected it because of how political Mitch made the whole process--a process that should be apolitical, but good luck getting the LCDs of our nation to understand that now. Barrett's objection was two-fold: One, because Barrett is a whackjob Christian Conservative that has a history of ignoring judicial precedent in favor of her beliefs--something that courts are not supposed to do at all. Now...you may have been absent for the semester where stare decisis was discussed in civics class, but it's the bedrock of our judicial system and something she committed to going against in her confirmation hearing. That right there is a red flag for *ANY* judicial candidate. It's why when she was nominated for the Circuit Court of Appeals (her old job before the Supreme Court), it was a 55-43 vote. Hardly overwhelming and consistent with the narrow vote to approve her to the Supreme Court. Two...not only was Barrett unfit for the position she already had and was nominated for, the GOP were hypocrites yet again (shock of all shocks) in holding hearings two months before the 2020 election and voted her in eight days before the elections happened.

  2. Wait. What? My little party was pretty torn between preferring another candidate over Hillary, just as many preferred Obama over Hillary in the last open primary. Are you suggesting an aversion to Donald Trump, Ted Cruz, and Ben Carson can only be attributed to unquestioned loyalty to Hillary Clinton? Trump has been an awful human his entire public life, and if quiet, thoughtful Republicans are so averse to non-stop personal abuse in their national politics, Donald Trump would be the last person you'd choose. And you had choices. Remarkably, Cruz and Carson were almost as bad. Embarrassingly awful, to be honest. Remember how Republicans refused to simply tear into Hillary Clinton every day and concentrated on pertinent national issues instead? I sure don't. Millions of people did not lie to pollsters about supporting Trump. That was a wild exaggeration on my part. There is more evidence that they simply didn't like or trust pollsters, and that pollsters didn't do a very good job of seeking out independents. At the end of the day, Hillary Clinton still had 3 million more votes than Trump, and while I find virtually no comfort in that, we should at least agree that losing the popular vote is not an a$$ kicking.

  3. Your second paragraph makes him sound like some unfairly treated, misunderstood savant. I can see why Republicans might feel like that, but excluding Democrats (who hate him on principal), I don’t think moderates/independents see him like that at all. And I think it’s the fact that some of his policies allegedly do represent Republican ideals is what’s concerning. I still support many Republican views but he has strayed way too far into crazy opposition politics too many times. I’m really not interested in having someone like him ever be president. He doesn’t exude strong leadership qualities. I think Republicans have far better candidates out there, ones that are far less concerned about “combatting liberal wokeness.” I think he gets caught up in waaaaaay too much partisan BS.

  4. I don't think there's a need to be this diminutive towards Guy, admo. You can make your point without the belittlement or getting into who kicked whose a$$ where. I'm not going to get into the "R's didn't want to admit they voted for Trump" stuff. While I think it might be true for some people, I don't know how prevalent it is. I also don't know if Republican primaries are about who loves Trump more. That's clearly not the case in Nebraska because Herbster is/was Trump's guy but I wager Pillen has the advantage right now. But I think Guy makes some otherwise cognizant points. For starters, this board is unquestionably misrepresentative of this state and this country's politics. So using that as evidence for or against any one political idea/candidate is misguided. Second, DeSantis is about as goofy Republican as you can get these days. He consistently panders to the far right fringes and lowest common denominators of the Republican party and opposition politics. So I think Guy's assertion that DeSantis "isn't reclaiming the Republican Party for common sense conservatism" is a fair observation. He may not be Trump, but I can guarantee you he is largely unappealing to more independent voters like myself. Third, Trump is still very much a contested subject within the Republican party. I have anecdotal evidence of this and we're consistently hearing about it from pockets of the Republican party. He's as much a cancer as he is a savior, and I know many Republicans that would still probably vote for him again if it was him vs. the Democrats... which is fairly unnerving given his performance as president, horrible representation of the U.S. on the global stage and his involvement in the insurrection. I think Republicans can be and are WAY better than the likes of Trump and DeSantis.

  6. Your takeaway about people that don’t like Trump could not be further from reality. Sure there are democrats that are going to hate Trump or any republican but you aren’t giving any credit of critical thinking to moderates, independents or reasonable Republicans who can see through his bulls#!t. Poor Donald, only sticking up for himself

  8. This is obviously an opinion and one that many share and many do not. The ones who share this most likely just look at the media headlines and hit pieces he defends himself against without looking into the broader picture of what he runs on as a politician. Does he unnecessarily fight back against the minutiae attacks from some media and the other party sure, but I’m fine with someone who will stick up for himself and not allow false hit pieces to go unopposed. Does any non left Liberal have DeSantis policies (not minor state issues) that they believe do not represent Republican ideals?

Plenty of "town square" options available. Hell, your actual town square is also available! But as far as I know millions of people from all across the world don't congregate in your town square and never did, so the sanctimonious whining is very much based off a strawman idea.

  13. It's hardly a trend. It was mostly a one-year deal. 2019 - top five in-state players signed with NU 2020 - Got Betts and Gifford. Only real loss was Watts 2021 - Got five of the top seven. Dickerson and Johnson were never coming here. 2022 - Hurt to lose the top four but at least three were never coming here. Got the next three. 2023 - Have three of the top five already committed. In good shape for the other two. 2022 sucked but most of the ones we missed never gave NU a chance. Other than that we've gotten 15 out of 18. I don't see that as a trend of losing guys. Closer to the opposite would be true.

  18. Zero chance of that happening. It would need to be on City Campus or Innovation Campus. There's no way they would put it any further away than that, and for sure not outside the city limits. And with the new football building they're putting up, to the tune of $180 million, it's pretty safe to say we're not leaving Memorial Stadium's footprint.

  20. https://www.yahoo.com/news/kremlin-tv-hopes-putin-unhinged-095626302.html Just saying.... It's super odd, that Russian propaganda is praying that their attack on Ukraine will help restore Trump to the Presidency. I mean why would they want someone who was "SOOOOOO Hard on them," leading the world opposition against their dreams of conquest. Putin’s invasion of Ukraine pitted Russia against most of the world, leaving Kremlin propagandists yearning for any tidbits of pro-Russian sentiment in the United States. These days, state television draws on a bounty of translated quotes almost exclusively from two Western voices: Tucker Carlson of Fox News and former U.S. President Donald J. Trump. They have a plan to reward them both: Carlson with a highly coveted interview with Russian President Vladimir Putin, and Trump with a freebie PR campaign designed to light his path back to the White House.

  21. I think most people agree the joke was low brow, but don't you think this sets a bit of a dangerous precedent or example if we start itemizing what kind of comedy is or isn't off limits? That's kind of the role comedians serve in life... they push limits, make us question boundaries in the form of expression. If joking about an auto-immune disease is off-limits (which, honestly, is really not as bad as other topics), how many lines do we have to draw for what is or isn't acceptable and what does or does not constitute a violent response? If alopecia is off-limits... then we should probably add a few thousand other things to the off-limits category. I agree though that it was probably one of the more tame things to joke about regarding that family. I mean, the low-hanging fruit would've been Jada's infidelity. But even then, I don't think the joke would've warranted violence.

  25. Not only is this incorrect, but it's a stupid idea to suggest that. Here's what happened, guy. Your little party verbally tore into anyone who ran against Hilary Clinton, day after day, especially Trump. We (repubs) got tired of hearing it every day (shocker). So we kept quiet, went about our business, and kicked her a$$ and your party's a$$ in the voting booth. That's what happened. The other stuff you are mentioning sounds silly.

  26. "First, the 60 percent figure some referred to is factually incorrect. It appears to be an extrapolation from the graph, which cites just "40 percent of Democrats" as willing to fight. But with 8 percent responding "don't know," the actual number is 52 percent." So they were being thoughtful? "Second, and a more important caveat, is the phrasing of the question. Question number 8 in the poll reads as follows: "If you were in the same position as Ukrainians are now, do you think that you would stay and fight or leave the country?" The distinction is significant because of the unenviable position that Ukraine has found itself in, facing a much more numerous and better-armed military, while not having the benefit of NATO protection (which the U.S., as a key member of the alliance, would have). Equating the objective evaluation of the risks of staying in Ukraine, a country under siege, to 'abandoning' the U.S., a country with the world's most powerful military, is, at best, misleading. Furthermore, the question can be interpreted as 'if you were a local citizen in Ukraine now, would you stay or flee?' This interpretation is supported by the preceding question, which addresses the level of support for Ukrainian refugees entering the U.S. If that is indeed how responders understood Question 8, then it would be entirely inappropriate to extrapolate the American public's reaction to a domestic assault of a similar nature from their response to a non-American hypothetical." This is convincing....but the answer to my original question was simply 'yes'.

  27. What is "your town square"? The only social media I am on is LinkedIn, and this forum is literally the only place I post anything. My wife is on Facebook. I used to read those posts until 2020 and 2021 when I got sick of all the hypocrites. I suspect you approve of how the Twitter police run their show, and are actually worried Musk will follow through. Musk is rich enough to create a platform with instant popularity. Heck, I bet my teenage boys would get on it just because it's Musk. I would not join it, but it would make me smile because the big techs could do nothing to stop it. If he needs servers....he will just buy a bunch.

  29. Forgive me for not differentiating between Trump and DeSantis, not that it matters. What you said about Desantis applies equally to Trump and my comments apply equally to DeSantis. Both are POS catering to and exemplifying the worst elements in the R party. Deeply concerning that anyone would seriously consider either one for the top office.

  30. A friend of mine who is fairly well connected and isn’t really a Huskers fan, but lives in Omaha is adamant that deep down, Trev wants to build a new stadium. This Friend also claims the best spot (in his opinion) would be near I-80 between Omaha and Lincoln so parking wouldn’t be a problem and construction could happen without disrupting the FB season. I personally don’t see that happening. Especially that far from campus. But if the money is there, a new modern stadium with a retractable roof, etc may not be too far-fetched. Just thought I’d throw that out there.

  35. Honestly, current polarization of the electorate, as well as the nature of the electoral college, make electoral outcomes extremely rigid. In other words, I think it's doubtful that it matters who the nominee is for either party. Republicans can probably nominate just about anybody, Democrats just have to nominate somebody who has some support in each part of their coalition. At the end of the day, factors outside who the nominees are will have far greater influence over electoral outcomes. If inflation falls, the economy is still booming and the COVID-19 situation improves, Joe Biden would have a ~50% chance to win. Any other Democrat would do slightly worse since they wouldn't enjoy the incumbency bonus. NOTE: Its going to be very hard for any Democrat, Biden or otherwise, to push the odds of winning much higher than a coinflip. If inflation is still high, the economy falters or COVID is still an issue, Republicans will win since they enjoy monumental systemic advantages. This might be difficult for you, but maybe you should be more concerned about how elected Republicans allowed COVID-19 to kill huge swaths of their constituency and less concerned about perceived 'false flags' and their totally hoax-and-fake indictments and guilty pleas by Trumps inner circle TOTALLY planted by trans-CRT-loving Democrats and the fake news media.

  37. It sort of makes me wonder if Will and Jada weren’t already a bit triggered over the “open relationship” joke the 3 hostesses did at the beginning of the show. Will initially laughed at the GI Jane joke but then apparently saw that Jada didn’t think it was funny…then he got up. Sort of understandable that it upset hime at that point but made it seem a little like he did what he did to make up for his laughing moreso than for what Chris Rock said. I like both Will and Chris but Jada has a pretty long history of taking umbrage at things. IMO she needs to have a little thicker skin and realize that no matter how she feels slighted she still is better off than 99.9% of the people who provide her fame and fortune.

  43. If all of the speculation is true I really hope people don't demonize the kid. Football is extremely valuable for a lot of things, but it's not and shouldn't be an all encompassing weight and identity in life (at least outside of a season), and if Betts has already figured out what's most important to him then that should be nothing other than celebrated. I don't know the kid or the situation and all its details, but it takes a lot of wisdom to know that something demanding more than you need or want to give isn't worth it for you.
