  3. We have two special teams guys in Bleekrode & Boomschini. Devin Drew at .82 is a bad rating by 247 sports. Those are three starters. You’re focused on the wrong thing.

  4. Time will tell but the portal for Nebraska has been more positive than negative this year. The only guy who left that was key is AM but I think we upgraded. We also upgraded on Rogers and Payne. Also have a few previous years guys who could start like Martin and Johnson. Casey Thompson: Starting QB Ochaun Mathis: Starting DE/OLB Trey Palmer: Starting WR Devin Drew: Starting DL Timmy Bleekrode: Starting Kicker Brian Buschini: Starting Punter Chubba Purdy: Backup QB and will start when CT leaves Isaiah Garcia-Castaneda: Backup WR that will see a lot of PT if healthy Kevin Williams: Backup OL that could break into a starting spot Hunter Anthony: Backup OL that could break into a starting spot Tommi Hill: Backup DB that could break into a starting spot Omar Brown: Backup DB that could break into a starting spot

  5. Nobody is denying there's a shortage. That's a major problem for families. However, the idiotic disinformation that there's a shortage because it's being sent to illegal aliens at the border is pretty bad.

  6. Remember walk-on Matt O'Hanlon? Dude was very productive his Jr and Sr years at Nebraska playing safety. If you have a good DC you don't have to be overly athletic to play safety.

  7. No...and yes. No....because it's always been a very Republican state. Yes....because it's swung to the bat s#!t crazy side. We went from a state that could elect John Kerry, Kay Orr, Ben Nelson...etc. To a state that almost elected Herbster. A guy who is full on MAGA Whacko. The only reason he didn't get elected is because women came out claiming he molested them. STILL, he almost won.

  10. You could also look at it that perhaps the psyche that caused this team to lose all those close games last year can hopefully be erased with all the new pieces in place, especially at prominent positions (starting QB specifically)

  11. BIG ERN beat me to it: Could be as many as 7 to 9 starters directly from the transfer portal, plus a host of other guys who will factor into the 2 or 3 deep rotation. And another at least solid rotation guy if you consider Anthony Grant who is a JUCO transfer. I'd say that's a successful class of transfers. Of course now they all have to put together a cohesive and quality product to put on the field.
    3 points
  12. Exactly. The problem is that very time we land a transfer the local media (and even 247) hypes it up like the player is a future NFL All Pro/HOFer... but when you look in comparison to other teams, it's not all that impressive... it's the same with recruiting

  13. What's more worrisome to me is the quality of the guys. We took a lot of guys, which got us up on the ranking, but most of them aren't exactly stars. Look at that average rating column - there's only one other team in the top 25 that's that low.

  14. There are so, so many problems with these, but they're also just grounded in some kind of bizarre... faux hysteria. It's the same kind of nonsense that convinces these people that the guvment is coming to take their guns any time a mass shooting happens. I genuinely chuckled at the 'restore patriotic education' line though. I've learned from several of my friends from foreign countries (particularly European ones) that they spend time in their schools learning about America's overt self-obsession's and grandeur. Like... our country is obsessed with how great we think it is... and other countries are studying it from a sociological perspective... and not in a good way. Go you, Republican party. Go you. You're being steered and managed by a bunch of Captain Fingerpaints.

  18. This is extremely difficult for Democrats now. I'm not saying Dems are honest about everything. But, Republicans have taken dishonestly to a completely new level never seen before. They do that through their media outlets that are there for no reason other than to feed this disinformation. They then have brainwashed a significant percentage of the population that these outlets are the ONLY place they can get factual information. Once that's done....it doesn't even matter how idiotic the lies are. Dems have media outlets that lean their way. However, they don't have the complete machine of disinformation working like the Repubs. So, let's say the Dems are going to do everything they can to be honest about issues and push for these issues that supposedly a majority of Americans want? How do they get around the disinformation to gain more power to get it done?

  19. I have a friend who played in this and is a phenomenal golfer. He's been golfing all his life and is the most dedicated guy I know to the sport and is a practice freak. He even bought a house in Phoenix just so he can go there in the winter to golf to practice. He shot +7. If Danny has only been golfing for 4 years, that's is incredible.

  20. Not that it changes a ton, Herbster still got about 79,000 more votes than he should have. But Pillen and Lindtrom, together, received almost 156,000 votes. That is a lot of GOP votes that didn't go to the MAGA candidate.
    2 points
  21. Everyone remember those 8,400 or so newly-registered Republican voters before the primary? None of those registrations were made with the intent to vote for Herbster. Pillen's margin of victory was less than 8,000 votes.

  22. Well in 2012 Ohio State was ineligible and all Nebraska had to do was beat an 8-5 Wisconsin team we'd previously beaten to get a Rose Bowl invite and Top Ten ranking. In 2016, Mike Riley's Husker's were undefeated at home in Big 10 play, almost beat Wisconsin at Camp Randall, and was still nationally relevant in Week 13. Indiana, Purdue, Minnesota, and Northwestern have all had their moments in the same conference, and Iowa has somehow emerged as a powerhouse. Are we aspiring to be them, now? Looking at the Big 12, I'm not seeing enough gimmes to think these Nebraska teams would be thriving had they stayed. It's not the conference or a conspiracy. Nebraska is going to have to step up and play big boy football with any given schedule.

  23. It's not just him, but the whole right-wing disinformation apparatus. Plus, those rural voters don't want to move on. They're much happier in their belief that they are oppressed. All TFG and right-wing media do is reinforce that.

  24. What's a lot? Most recent polling I could find for overturning Roe is from 2021 (Edit: I incorrectly wrote 2018 originally) (link): Americans' Support for Abortion Law Changes, by Key Demographics Overturn Roe v. In fact there isn't a majority in favor of overturning Roe in any of the demographics in that poll.

  26. Their problem is they run on these policies but they don't get these policies passed into law. Biden campaigned on student debt relief. We're nowhere near moving forward on that policy, and those voters who voted for him because of that are pissed. Once again, the Democrats are their own worst enemies.

  27. Trump was able to attract to the small-town, uneducated because he was able to touch on their fears of a more diverse and progressive country leaving the "small-town white folk" behind. I have seen it first-hand in my wife's side of the family. I have in-laws who hated Obama (probably just because he was a black man) and loved Trump because he was perceived to be a lot different than the previous regime. It's sad that this point of view has continued to persist across Nebraska nearly 2 years after Trump lost the Presidency, but of course Trump isn't allowing the GOP to move on and wants to continue to push his agenda of absolute rule over the country.

  28. Thompson potentially, Boomschini, Bleekrode, Mathis, Williams could be a potential good player. One of Brown/Hill may not be second rounder material but quite good. I think Purdy is a better backup than Smothers at this point last year. I would argue the receiver room if they add Washington from Texas is getting 3 serviceable players with Castenada & Palmer. Less Belt/Liewer situations. Better as a unit than last year. Not all of these guys are immediate starters some will be depth guys. We needed the depth especially in the DL, OL, & WR rooms. I think a lot of these positions could be purely upgraded by having better coaches and similar quality talent as last year.
    2 points
  29. How many of these guys do you honestly see as an actual upgrade over what we had last year? Other than the special teams guys, the only one I'd say is a definite upgrade is Mathis. Rose-colored optimism glasses off, the rest are mostly side-grades. And I sure don't see as much help for the O line as we need coming in.

  30. My observations match his, though. Nebraska conservatives were, for the most part, content with a live-and-let-live attitude... but that all changed when a Black man was elected president. The rumbling unease from the Clinton administration was assuaged to a degree with Bush's win over Gore, but when the country had the audacity to elect a Black man for president, conservatives here became eager consumers of right-wing propaganda. Hannity, Rush, Glenn Beck, et al. had been pounding away at them for over a decade at that point. 2008 was the tipping point for them. It saw the rise of the Tea Party and made fertile ground for growth of trumpian conservatism and later full-on Q conspiracists.

  33. Wynn is currently on a visit to G Tech and one of their writers put in a crystal ball to GT...just need to make sure he visits here. Outside of proximity we should be able to beat them. It sounds like we are more interested in him than Kaine Williams currently because of roster spots. Omar Brown is also having back issues and may not be a full go this year. Slated to play CB.

  36. I would have to see where this team is after the Illinois game. If we aren't bowl eligible by then, we probably won't be or barely get there. Those last 4 will be set by whatever happens those 1st 8 games.

  37. I wouldn't mind seeing this come about. And I'd to see the rest of the games get evenly rotated for all B1G teams so we don't end up playing OSU 8 of the next 11 years like we have for the first 11 years in the conference.

  38. Let me translate these for the lay-person 1) Get rid of sex ed in schools so we can keep our heads in the sand that teenagers will actually want to have sex with each other. We will continue to push our agenda of abstinence, even though everyone knows that it's not realistic. Also, the liberal sex ed teachers are going to turn our kids gay and we should only think about people who only believe in the union of a man and woman, and have "normal" gender thoughts. 2) Even though America was built on the ideals of separation of church and state and the freedom of religion, we only think that freedom applies to Christianity. We need to go back to a society where we push our thoughts and ideals to others. 3) Since public schools won't allow us to push our Christian agenda, we need to demonize the public school system and push for private, Christian-based schools so that we can go back to marginalizing those who aren't Christian or have beliefs that are different than our own.

  39. It's been well documented by others, but basically American Christianity has drifted into the creation of an American Jesus that does not reflect his true Middle East upbringing or the context of his times. Jesus Christ became a symbol of American manifest destiny and his believers granted a higher moral calling. Especially among Evangelicals, this got co-opted into a form of religious nationalism and embraced by the political Right (whether believers or not) as a Christian Nation fighting a war against a modern and immoral secular world. What they (willfully) got wrong about Christianity is that pretty much any reading of the New Testament would land Jesus as a street-level activist in the progressive/social justice spectrum of modern America, and like Rome, the forces of American Nationalism would want to shut Jesus up as quickly as possible.

  40. I am at 0-4 until they prove they can actually win one of these games. To expect anything else is just silly.

  41. Are you saying that you don't see any reason why we would have more than 1 loss in our first 8 games? Have you actually watched Nebraska football the last handful of years? I think you have to set the over/under at 0.5 wins. Frost is a combined 1-11 against those schools, with the 1 W coming in 2018.

  45. Ehh... we have to look at the whole picture. It was primarily groups who had an aversion to mask wearing, vaccinations, and government involvement in the COVID pandemic who INCORRECTLY propagated it as an effective treatment against COVID more than a year ago before anybody on CNN started calling it a horse medication and trying to dunk on people who were taking Ivermectin So, I'm not going to defend CNN or give them a pass, but the single biggest reason we're having a conversation about Ivermectin right now is because it became an international political pissing match but CNN wasn't the one who made Ivermectin a thing in the first place. Nobody in the media started that. It was the people who started taking the stuff and suggesting it was a safe, effective COVID treatment when it wasn't... and still hasn't proven to be so. Stupidity snowballed from there from all parties involved.

  46. I'm hopeful the intentionally misleading stigmatisms thrown at a nobel winning harmless people medecine can be lifted. I'm hopeful Ivermectin, because it was specifically targeted, can be given a fair trial. I explained very clearly I'm hopeful for it to be a treatment, has nothing to do with the politicization of medecines and vaccines amidst a pandemic, which is what I'm assuming you're alluding to here? I can agree that the promoted data available to the public considers Ivermectin ineffective (though harmless otherwise). I agree that Ivermectin is CONSIDERED ineffective by many. I don't find it weird at all. I actually find it weird that people have such pushback towards a harmless treatment that, despite what some thing, does have potential to help treat covid. Again, I'm hopeful this will be calculated and proven. We all should be hopeful for that, instead of continuing to disregard it and mislabel it. Nor should you, or anyone really for that matter. It's getting focus because the media flat out lied about it, effectiveness not withstanding. Doctors now deemed quacks for thinking it still could be effective are another reason it gets focus. And it should, why not explore it since it's harmless? And yes, maybe the media could focus on promoting healthy living. But instead they focus solely on vaccines and mudslinging anything to the contrary and ignore healthy living completely. Well, unless it can be used as propaganda: https://medium.com/equality-includes-you/the-surprising-link-between-fitness-and-racism-866039cec2ae https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.self.com/story/anti-fatness-fitness/amp
