  1. Had to log back in, reset the password to comment here. It’s been a very long time. Here is a different take on a couple of things guys have said: 1. Trev did the right thing by giving Frost a chance. Last year at this time we all believed the defense was getting better and most of us believed it would be good going forward. The issue was our stale offense. Trev and Frost knew a change was needed. They made the change and brought in some great coaches, dropping the friend group that Frost brought with him. 2. Many fans, including most of the Husker fans I know (full disclosure - me included), were still not quite ready to give up on “the chosen one”. Maybe that’s because of the water we drink in Western Nebraska. It’s pure KoolAid. When did that “fire Frost” switch flip for me? It was during the 3rd QTR of the Northwestern game this year. When did that change for the majority of Husker fans I know? 3/4 of them (most of the town) said it was after NW as well. The remainder were onboard with a change after Georgia Southern. I only know of a couple people who wanted to keep Frost after the Sun Belt sunburn. 3. If you don’t care about the culture from 30 years ago, you’re missing a big piece of what makes Nebraska different. That culture is more than just the team, it’s the pride that comes from being a Huskers fan. It’s what keeps the stadium full during this drought this team has been in. Those saying they don’t care about what players think from 30 years ago agree with how Callahan ran the program. That’s mind boggling to me. If you don’t care about those players opinions, you shouldn’t care about their accomplishments either. If you don’t care about their accomplishments, then why are you here? 4. Frost has earned the ridicule after the firing. He was protected, and now there is a lot of smoke. Most of us wanted it to work, but it didn’t, and it’s 100% on Scott. I could care less what the media has to say, but the former players… that’s important when they’re all singing the same tune. Steve Taylor is a well respected guy. He’s saying there was something way off. Tommie tried to say it a couple years ago, and he got ridiculed for having a vendetta against Frost. It turns out he was right. Regardless of what you believe about Frost, it’s clear this mess has only gotten worse. Carriker summed it up best yesterday on his latest YouTube post “How bad of shape did Scott Frost leave this program? He talked about how bad of shape Riley left the program in; I think he’s left it in way worse shape.” That’s a hard pill to swallow for a lot of us, but the record speaks for itself. 5. To the Urban Meyer brigade, what makes you think that players would even trust him now? From the tone deaf Doyle hiring, to the constant run-ins with staff/players at Jacksonville, why would a top tier kid want to play for him now? I wouldn’t want my kid playing for a guy like that, especially at a rebuilding program where he will likely be more frustrated. Urban can work when he takes a consistently winning program to the next level. He’s a polisher, not a builder. He’d be extremely frustrated at UNL. He’s a narcissist and a culture killer if a winning culture isn’t already established. Urban is not an Osborne or a Saban. Trev would be tone deaf to make that hire. He’s not. 6. Full circle - Trev understands the program. He will be our best shot in a long time at understanding who to hire. He is not a Steve Peterson or Shawn Eekworst (intentional). He’s also not a drunk with a ranch in Montana. That’s my take. Agree, disagree; we all want success for our team. I’m glad Scott is now gone. I wanted it to work, but it didn’t. I was tired of quoting Townie, “Oh no, we suck again!”

  2. What if it's been a long con this whole time? What if he... did it all for the cookie?

  3. I'd be happy with another 3-9 year if the 2 additional wins are Wisconsin and Iowa.

  4. What if we pay Urbs 11 million a year and he comes here and fails spectacularly? This idea that Urban will just come here and flip us around is a very optimistic take imo. He could absolutely have success here, but its also a possibility that he doesn't.

  6. Just got off the phone with Trev. He said, "I do not give a s#!t about Decked going to the KU game" and "I do not even know who that is." Then he also said, "Who are you and how did you get this number?"

  8. They should have let that decision brew a bit longer. Had a golden opportunity here to salvage some interest in attending a football game. Now the frothy discontent shall continue. I have some unfiltered opinions on this, that I am sure others share. Nebraska football used to be intoxicating, but now it is a bit skunky. I would suggest they reconsider, lest the discontent continue to ferment.

  10. Last year USC was in not the same but a similar situation as us. The coach they started the season with, Clay Helton, was on the hottest of seats. He was fired early in the season and replaced in the interim with the ace recruiter, high energy, relates to the players coach in Donte Williams. They finished a disappointing season but shocked the CFB world by hiring Lincoln Riley. Their recruiting and portal players went through the roof. Now they have made a huge comeback this season and are in the discussion of the elites of college football. That quickly it turned. And by the way they retained Donte Williams on staff. And not to mention they now are going to move to the B1G where they would be a clear favorite in the west. We start this season with our coach on the hottest of seats. Ironically he loses to Helton in a game NU was a big favorite so he is fired literally like the same time of the season when USC dismissed Helton last year. Much like USC we turn to our ace recruiter, high energy, relates to the platers coach in Mickey Joseph to take over as interim. Much like Donte Williams, unless he wins more than expected it is unlikely he will get the head job next season but rather he is a stop gap and to keep players going throughout the season while we find our next big guy. USC went all in and is basically saying they are coming to wage war on the B1G. What does Trev do? Will he up the stakes and counter USC? He has to counter big or essentially know a team like USC is going to soundly thump us consistently in the near future. The stakes are high. Can NU football make a huge comeback quickly? I think Urban is the only coach in this unique time that will allow us to go toe to toe with USC and other giants of the B1G. I don’t want to see USC and OSU dominating all the coverage where we are relegated to an afterthought. So here we are. It has come to this. I would hire Urban, try our best to keep Mickey on staff to signal we are here to compete. As the B1G changes we need to grab the mantle that we are here. The next decade would be epic. This is Trev’s biggest opportunity to get Nebraska football back on the map quickly, take coverage from other programs, bring in elite players, and actually win meaningful games. If we don’t do this I think we are mired forever in mediocrity and will never reach our goals again. So will Trev follow USC’s playbook? I hope he does as ironically it will be the only way to compete with USC and others quickly in the new B1G.

  11. Wait all the other coaches you s#!t on and you are excited about a coach who hasn't coached in college in 20 years and is an OC that doesn't even call the plays.

  12. Inside sources confirm that Trev has filed a restraining order against two Huskerboard posters.

  13. I like Mickey but I honestly don't feel like he was giving a fair chance to show us how he could make us better when he was put into a horrible spot 4 games in.

  15. I honestly don't know of another poster that works so hard to pump his/her own chest because they correctly predicted that we are going to suck. Congrats. You should get a cookie.

  16. The USC playbook (also shared by LSU) is to go completely away from any rumored candidates and then steal a sitting coach from a traditional power. I don't think we have the cache to do that because both LA and Baton Rouge are sitting in the middle of great recruiting areas. With that said, it wouldn't shock me if we hear a name on Nov 27th that wasn't a rumored "top candidate" no one really thought had any serious interest leaving their current job for here.

  18. This is what I have been wondering. That would be very Nebraska to spend big and Urbs can't get it done, is washed up, doesn't actually care any more, yada yada yada.

  19. Urb would give us the boost we need. Set the damn fan base straight and release the curses. but then he’d be gone in like 2-4 yrs. if we win during that tenure, I’d take it. But where would he leave us standing? His protege might be great or we’d be back where we started. Or, lastly would Urb stay on for 5-6 yrs and retire bringing us back to success and just figure it out from there? I’m not against his hire at all, just wondering how long he would commit to us? Fuuuuuuck! Frost..why couldn’t you figure it out?? Limbo sucks.

  20. That's the best way for us to guarantee that we will continue to struggle - being too chickens#!t scared with PTSD to take a chance. Bob Stoops was an if/maybe for OU. Kirby Smart was an if/maybe for UGA. Saban was an if/maybe for LSU. Dabo was an if/maybe for Clemson. Luke Fickell, Ryan Day, PJ Fleck, Lincoln Riley, the list goes on and on. Except for all the times they aren't in coaching, which is....all the time. Rich Rod at WVU compared to Michigan and everywhere else. Dan Hawkins at Boise and then CU compared to Chris Petersen at Boise and then Washington Mack Brown at Texas compared to Mack Brown at USC Les Miles at Okie State compared to Les Miles at LSU Les Miles at LSU compared to Kansas Charlie Strong at Louisville compared to Texas Bret Bielema at Wisconsin compared to Arkansas Chip Kelly at Oregon compared to UCLA

  24. Mickey Joseph is my guy. I'm all in. I don't care about all these other future big payday buyout turds. If you could win at Nebraska, you would already be there. #Team Mickey Come at me

  26. The hypocrisy among Nebraska fans is unreal. Some of the things Osborne condoned during his tenure were worse than anything Urban did, yet he’s revered throughout the state as a man of great character and integrity

  28. Lol I understand but what I am saying is that this will be a massive overhaul by the next HC. I am not saying Nebraska is bringing ten 5 stars with Urban in the first class, but I certainly could see 2-3 (HS & Transfer), and the rest being mostly 4 stars. His staff would consist of top notch dudes currently coaching right now, who would bring their guys over. Add the transfer portal, and he will bring in 10 highly rated guys easily. Before you know it, the number doesn't seem so far fetched. We are talking about Urban freaking Meyer, the man who changed the trajectory of the entire BIG conference by the way he recruited. Maybe that number is a bit wishful thinking but Nebraska lands in the top 10 if they hire him. I would guarantee it. And I would also guarantee 10-15 guys leaving the team next year who will have eligibility in 2023.

  29. Aside from your fuzzy feelings about the program I don’t really know how that’s true. Would love to hear a case that Nebraska is this unique program that has to win and lose differently than the other 130 FBS programs

  30. You’re making a bad assumption. I don’t look down (or up) at people based on their predictions. 0-12 through 12-0, IDGAF. Just because somebody at some point in time gave you s#!t for being too positive or too negative with your prediction doesn’t mean that everybody who went the other way is critical of your prediction. So you predicted 5 wins and I predicted 8 or 9 and have since revised to 3. So what? I never once said anything about people who predicted less Ws than I did. With this team anything is possible (except a bunch of wins apparently). You have a tendency to paint with a broad brush. Maybe you wouldn’t get the pushback you do if you tailored your comments to the specific people you seem to be addressing.

  31. Yes, that's completely reasonable. Not at all a fantasy.

  32. No kidding. There is no rebuild with Urban. He will get 40 guys with 4-5 star status to take over immediately. He wouldn't come in with rebuild type talent.

  33. So you're gonna just leave out the rest of the criteria that Trev listed? A grinder who hates losing, for example...

  36. If you find your program suddenly awash in tales of drunken behavior, coed banging, missed meetings, insulted recruits, player mutiny and rampant arrogance, you might be excused for bringing character into consideration for your new coaching search. For a lot of reasons. One of them is that every recruit has a mother.

  37. MJ still gets his audition. But why not Meyer? Can we not have nice things here? We were once excited about getting Fred Hoiberg and thought we could not pull that one off. Yeah, I get we might have buyers remorse on that one. But for Pete's sake, we cling too tightly to our dignity and illusions.

  38. Bowl games are dumb fun between teams from different conferences. Some matchups are classic, some are fun, some are dumb. But the antiquated idea that "bowl games are a reward for a good season" hasn't been true for going on three decades. Bowl games means more football. All these people saying "we need fewer bowl games" are saying we need less football. They're wrong. Every team, regardless of record, should get the opportunity to play in a bowl game. That means more football. More football is better than less football.
