Are you freakin serious!? All we heard about after Callahan was fired was how he disrespected and cast out former players, removed all of the 90s memories off the walls, destroyed Husker Power, and on and on. He was toxic to everything Nebraska and him and Pederson were doing everything in their power to remake Nebraska in their image.

Allow me to peel back the layers of the onion for a moment. Generally speaking, when coaching searches have happened in the past, we've tried to keep the "candidate" discussions in one thread because there are so many rumors and options flying around that it can quickly get out of control. One thread per candidate is overkill when there are 20+ names being thrown around. We only keep 40 threads on page one of the football sub forum; that may seem like a lot, but we already have threads less than 10 days old that are now on page two. Most threads that fall to page two are never read again, so consolidation helps keep a wider range of topics "alive," so to speak. Once something falls to page two, statistically speaking, it is rarely posted in again. Obviously, the downside to this strategy is there can be a lot of competing conversations happening within one thread, but I have generally found it is still better for overall board engagement and efficiency. There aren't a lot of hard and fast rules with thread consolidation. It's entirely up to moderator discretion. But, the above mentioned strategy is generally how I personally approach these situations. I also don't really mind if people post a new thread that should probably go in an existing one because it only takes us about 10 seconds to merge them. It only becomes a problem when it's the same person doing it over and over again.

Maybe, but isn't this the same crap we hear when we fire a coach? Solich had a toxic culture and had to beg Crouch to rejoin the team. Callahan had a toxic culture and tried to kill the walk-on program. Bo had a toxic culture and had the players against the fans/world. Mike had a toxic culture and fed players sprinkles on their ice cream. Frost had a toxic culture and missed meetings or was late because he was drunk. Did I miss anything? I don't know about anyone else, but I feel like Bill Murray in Groundhogs Day.

This ranking is from Athlon's 2015 Head Coaching Hires Report Card. 1) Jim Harbaugh: The Scott Frost of Michigan coaching hires 2) Gary Andersen: departed or fired from three teams since 2015, now an analyst at Weber State 3) Tom Herman: departed or fired from two teams since 2015, now an analyst for the Chicago Bears 4) Chad Morris: departed or fired from three teams since 2015, now an analyst for South Florida 5) Lance Leipold: now making hay in Kansas. In 2015 he was coming from Wisconsin-Whitewater. 6) Jim McElwain: since 2015 worked his way from Florida HC to Michigan WR Coach, to HC at Central Michigan. 7) Pat Narduzzi: still at Pitt. Should we make him an offer? 8) Mike Riley. Athlon rated the hire a B+ 9) Paul Chryst: brought a 19-19 HC record to the table in 2015, ranked below Mike Riley 10) Mike Bobo: fills out our HC Top 10. Four jobs since 2015, now an analyst for Georgia.

Bo Pelini ran a good program. His toxicity was towards admin and "some" fans. Callahan wasn't toxic as i remember. Just not a fit that Husker fans were excited about. Same as Riley, I believe. Not toxic, just didn't really excite the fanbase... I don't remember Solich's program as toxic, just didn't win like Osborne. Frost, apparently, ran a disorganized mess.

This is probably the stupidest argument of semantics I have ever seen in my life. Technically an ultrasound machine could pick up electrical activity. Literally every electronic device can pickup electrical activity but it's just noise in the signal, and most devices do a good job of shielding from that. Also, I highly doubt fetal electrical signals would have enough power to be detected even if the device was poorly shielded. Medically the heart isn't fully formed, so heartbeat seems like a bit of a misnomer. The tissue is generating electrical signals and (I assume because no one really spells it out) is pulsating. The pulsating is the "sound" (the tissue moving) that is picked up on the ultrasound, but again that's an interpretation of the signal, not the actual sound of a heartbeat. Even later on when the heart is fully formed the ultrasound doesn't actually hear a heartbeat. The sound that is generated is the interpretation of the Doppler effect (this is the reason why cars, planes, etc. change pitch as they pass by you) as the ultrasound waves hit tissue moving towards and away from the transducer.

At this point I’d settle for a coach with a mind. They say offense wins games and defense wins championships. Considering where we’ve been lately I think we need both but I don’t believe it matters which way he gravitates if he is actually HC material and has some top notch coordinators.

Equating Harbaugh with Frost might be the most simpleminded comment ever on this board. Harbaugh is 64-24 at Michigan, has gone to a bowl every year but the Covid year, finished first in the Big 10 East twice, winning the Conference outright once, made a BCS final 4, and has current team ranked no 4 in the ESPN power rankings. Frost was 16-31, never went to a bowl or had a winning season, never even finished higher than 5th in the weak Big Ten West, and left current team ranked 76th in ESPN Power rankings, right behind mighty James Madison. Harbaugh also out-recruited Frost every year and was 2 and 0 against Frost at Nebraska, including a 56-10 spanking.

This is water under the bridge and we all know how Mike Riley turned out, but at the time the hiring was certainly defensible. Mr. 50% actually had a similar record to Frank Solich at Ohio, coaching at the least desirable University in the Pac 12 where he turned the program around and occasionally outcoached guys like Pete Carroll and Jim Harbaugh. He won a Pac 12 Coach of the Year, and in 2015 had just been voted second most underrated coach in college football by his peers. Over the years Riley had been courted by Alabama and USC. He rarely came up on candidate lists because he'd turned those jobs down to stay in his hometown Corvallis. The recruiting services thought hiring Riley was a coup. Other coaches and former NFL players sent their kids to Nebraska because of Riley. Word is Eichorst approached Brett Bielema first, so going with Mr. Nice Guy wasn't the first priority, either. If you go back and look at the coaching hires of 2015, you'll find a lot of the coaches you think we wanted no longer with their program, either. Given that there are rarely more than three or four no-brainer choices for Head Coach -- and they're already highly compensated elsewhere -- that transformational head coach is a bit of a crapshoot.

Indiana at Cincinnati - 1:30PM (Huskers have Hoosiers next week... This week they play some Fickell) Iowa at Rutgers - 5PM (or as @GSG calls them... Buttgers ) Wisconsin at Ohio State - 530PM - Meh. Sounds nice for a minute. Buckeyes are favored by 20, so.... Miami OHIO at Northwestern - 530PM Florida Atlantic at Purdue - 530PM That's right. Only 9 games, with 8 on Saturday. Fun, for the whole family.

I have my top 3 finally figured out- Dave Clawson, Luke Fickell, and Matt Rhule. All a proven winners who have rebuilt programs. All have extensive head coaching experience and all 3 coach great fundamental football. Listed below in random order. I would be happy with any of them. Matt Rhule - 47 years old Temple 2013 - 2-10 2014 - 6-6 2015 - 10-4 2016 - 10-3 Baylor 2017 - 1-11 2018 - 7-6 2019 - 11-3 Left for the NFL Dave Clawson- 55 years old Fordham 1999-2003 - Winless in 99 to 10-3 and 9-3 in 2002 and 2003 Richmond 2004-2007 - 3-8 in 2004 to 11-3 in 2007 Bowling Green 2009-2013 - 6-6 in 2008 to 10-3 in 2013 Wake Forest 2014-current - 3-9 in 2014 to 11-3 in 2021 and is currently undefeated in 2022 Luke Fickell - 49 years old One year at Ohio State under weird circumstances - 6-7 Cincinnati 2017 - current 2017 - 4-8 2018 - 11-2 2019 - 11-3 2020 - 9-1 2021 - 13-1

So what's the collective take on this? A couple weeks ago the rumors about Frost's private behavior and lazy coaching habits were considered unfounded or unrelated sniping, even by folks who supported Frost's firing. We get some post-firing corroboration and it seems like the Frost rumors are now starting to be accepted as fact. It's important inasmuch as we're debating whether the problem is the Nebraska football program, and the desirability of ever playing or coaching here. When it might just be the culture of the last coach, a culture that actually can change quickly with a new administration.

You know how to get both? Find a coach who loves his linemen more than anything. Our identity become Linemen U. Big, smart, quick linemen on both sides of the ball. If you're a Big Boy high school lineman, you know that playing for Coach X will get you scouted for the NFL. Because when you're solid in the trenches, it makes all the skill positions look better, regardless of the scheme you choose. Go ahead and make Coach X a former lineman himself. That sets the tone. I don't know who this Coach X is. Do I have to do everything around here?

Yes, huge difference. Briles is second only to Sandusky in terms of sleaziness. We're talking scum of the earth s#!t. Not only tolerated, but enabled an entire culture of multiple players raping women for years at Baylor. Briles was so toxic after that mess that he couldn't get a job as a janitor for any program in the country. Had a stint in Italy where they didn't know his history. A CFL team tried to hire him and the public backlash was so bad he was fired before he even started. He finally landed at a small east Texas high school town that is pretty much 100% Baptist where their mentality was that they should forgive all of his sins to win football games. Then I think he got caught cheating there too and was eventually forced to resign. That dude is beyond sleazy. Urban's just a little sleazy comparatively.

Just in them. spread offenses and the toughness it takes to win games favors offenses. So I want a coach who values tough azz mfers nasty on the oline who can win games by scoring. coupled w a guy who can get stops when necessary with a super aggressive, attacking defense. If Mickey wins 5 this year, you most definitely put him very high up on the list. With the understanding of an amazing turnaround, the idea of Letting him recruit and build his staff. The future would look very promising, as much as Campbell doing his 5-6 win thing.

So i dont think your trolling because youve been here a while but let me try to explain something to you that i know you will understand. Being a old program means you have alot of old traditions. Now we havent shared conferences for very long but i think you can understand history and tradition. Some of that has nothing to do with championships. What if i went onto hawkeye nation and said, you know what. Floyd of rosedale is nothing but a humerus attempt to cover up racism in the 30s and it should be banned. Or alittle lighter and say. Iowa is not the only state that has farming, why do they get to have ANF on there helmets not others. Or somehow the wave is a way to exploit kids to promote the hospital. Honestly, traditions are there because they were started by people before our time and they are honored traditions and celebrations in memory of what happened. Which is why the bits of broken chair is truly the most unique new rivalry trophy to ever come out in the last 20 years because it was totally random and happenstance. So really thanks but no thanks, well keep what little tradition we have left.
