  1. Deion’s burner account isn’t as interesting as I thought it would be.

  2. For the love of God….Deion Sanders is not the coach we need or want. Just. Stop. It’s gone beyond an off the wall odd mention and has now ventured into WTF territory for a few posters.

  3. If his name wasn't Deion Sanders he wouldn't even be talked about here. In all the coaching search threads I don't think we've ever had a coach from an HBCU even mentioned, let alone given pages and pages of discussion. We need a guy proven at this level. We do not need to experiment with an inexperienced coach with name recognition.

  5. Sorry if I don’t accept some guy’s opinion as fact. Did you suffer a head injury? Also, condolences on your Illini fandom.

  6. These are more really big assumptions. Your post overall was great Red, but I did want to key in on this piece specifically. The national reach isn't only an assumption - it's pure hyperbole. Nebraska was one of the most talked about programs nationally when they hired Frost. They were one of the most talked about programs in 2010 early season when Martinez was on Heisman watch lists. Even if NU were to hire Meyer, it's not like that would thrust the program into some light it hasn't seen in two decades. And this is the problem with how some of our fans view the program and the direction it needs to go. So many of us are hyper-focused on stuff happening off the field that they forget that what ultimately matters is the results on Saturdays. I don't know how many times we need that reality slapped in our rosey red faces before it sinks in. There are 1,000 things that go into creating a winning football program and being at the top of news cycles isn't one of them. Look how much we're talking about recruiting and being the Bell of the Off-season Ball while programs like Iowa, Wisconsin, and Mich. St. continue to win football games and poop in our cereal every season. I think I speak for a majority of the fan base when I say I'm sick and tired of winning the off season. I want the best guy for the job. If that's Deion, great. If it's Meyer, great. If it's Campbell or Aranda, great. But we need to stop getting caught up in all these superlatives and feel good aesthetic victories. Find a damn good coach.

  7. The following isn't an argument for or against Aranda, but IMO, these are some objective reasons to like him: Been an FBS coach since 2008 and a P5 coach since 2012, so about 15 years experience At Wisconsin, he produced multiple defenses that either led the nation in a major defensive category or were in the top 10 in said categories Also helped produce multiple major award winners like Chris Borland and Joe Schobert, and a B1G defensive PotY in Borland He won a national title as a DC at LSU He is 15-3 in the last two seasons as a HC at Baylor, including a Big 12 Championship title in his second year He knows the B1G well Has a reputation for being very detail-oriented As with any coach, there are some reasons to not like him (and reasonable questions about if he'd even want the NU job).

  8. He was mentioned in response to DS. He's literally not out-recruiting everyone in the country, but I agree he is doing a fantastic job considering where he's at. He hasn't even finished his 3rd season as a college coach. That's the opposite of "proven track record". This is just random hyperbole. Ok. Preaching faith at a public school is a mark against him for me, but I respect what he's done developing young men as a high school coach. He's done very well for where he's at. The assumption seems to be that he'd be able to do that even better at Nebraska, but that's a big assumption. Does he? I've seen he has a former NFL analyst on staff, but that's about it. I'd say that's a huge question mark. These are more really big assumptions. No he doesn't. This is wishcasting. Yes. This is utter nonsense. Sanders has never even coached at a FBS school with just 2 years as a college coach. While MJ has 17 years as a college coach including 6 years in FBS and 2 years as HC of a HBCU. Look, Sanders has an impressive 2 years at Jacksonville St, but that's not much to go on for qualifications as the Nebraska HC.

  9. It’s also coming from a state that’s one of the worst in public education and that thinks it’s still okay to lynch people of color. I wouldn’t consider anything they suggest as noteworthy.

  10. The research is in! According to both $PAZZ and award-winning author Debra Devi, "trim" goes back at least 100 years and refers specifically to lady genitalia. While this has little to do with who our next HC should be, it does relate to where our previous HC has been. Circle of life stuff. URBAN DICTIONARY trim pu**y; usually good.(clean, shaved, not used alot. yo i heard there gonna be mad trim at that party this week. by $PAZZ April 1, 2003 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- The Language of the Blues, Author and rock musician Debra Devi explores the meaning of a word or phrase found in the blues. Grab a signed copy of Devi’s award-winning glossary The Language of the Blues: From Alcorub to Zuzu (Foreword by Dr. John) at Bluescentric.com. Also available as an eBook. Trim is slang for female genitalia. In the blues, it’s usually used by a man to express a need or an intention, as in “I’m gonna get me some trim tonight.” This usage has been around since the 1920s. This meaning for trim is still in use today. It showed up in the 1982 film 48 hours, for example, when Eddie Murphy’s character announced, “I’ve got to get me some trim, man!” Robert Johnson used “trimmin’” in “Little Queen of Spades” in 1937 to describe a girlfriend’s performance in bed: Song: “Little Queen of Spades”- Robert Johnson

  11. He’s got a lot of good traits. The problem is, his name is being mentioned way too much on HB and he’s being treated as a much more viable candidate than he actually is. But sure, go ahead and continue, I’ll just ignore the mentions. Just seems like a ton of wasted energy on a fringe….I was going to say candidate but I’m sure he hasn’t risen to that level with our AD.

  12. Sure, his celebrity gets him in the discussion. His performance has backed him up so far. And when forced to learn about the respect he's earned in the football community, folks realize they can't just write him off as Neon Deion anymore. I hated Sanders as a player. We've both grown up. It's a good thread. Saying we shouldn't have it because we've never had a coach from an HBCU mentioned is odd. As I pointed out in another thread, this Sanders/Nebraska thing wasn't invented by HB posters. It's all over Google via legitimate sports sites. I know it sounds counter-intuitive, but sometimes the safe hire is a risk, too. Especially when the safest bets probably aren't coming here. We aren't going to hire Sanders and he might opt for a competing offer anyway. But the program that hires him isn't going to be more foolish than Nebraska.

  14. Regarding Deion's abilities as a recruiter... I think the issue of Deion's recruiting at JSU is a bit more nuanced than what people think. HBCU interest and enrollment in general has increased since 2020, largely due to the increased discussion and aftermath following high profile events in the country around that time. It sends a significant message for a big-time recruit to choose an HBCU. Nebraska is about as far from that school/community culture as possible. Equating Deion's recruiting success in the south with young men interested in their cultural heritage with his supposed recruiting success here is an assumption with pretty flawed logic, I think. That doesn't mean he couldn't succeed recruiting here. It means he has not proven any ability to recruit outside that lens of HBCUs and the resurgence of interest and enrollment at HBCU schools.

  15. urban is the only coach who we could realistically expect to turn things around quickly. any other name mentioned here is a complete guess.

  16. I see reading comprehension isn't a topic valued at Illinois. I said prior to Nebraska. Also who the hell brags about where they got a degree from lol. Instead of trying to be cool, start by being a decent human being. You come off as an entitled pompous a$$ bragging about where u went to school and its not even a school worth bragging about

  17. Can you imagine the level of complaining still going on even if we qualified for the playoff though?

  19. We should probably run a contest on how many pages this thread will have before a coach is named. My guess is there won't be one named until some time around the conference championship games so we've got two more months of this lol.

  21. Maybe our new coach will hire Deion as recruiting coordinator.
    3 points
  22. That’s kind of the point. If his name wasn’t Deion, he also wouldn’t be recruiting A level talent to a D level school. But he is. Because he’s Deion.

  23. I'm beginning to believe this isn't always true. The coaches have to put the players in position to succeed. How they run practices, what schemes they are running...etc. means a hell of a lot.

  24. Deion would definitely put us on a different trajectory which we need. No more of the Devaney/Osborne Tree. No more talking about the 1970s-90s. It would be a clean break from those expectations and a totally new picture of Nebraska football. Whether he is ready for 'Prime Time" B1G football as a coach remains to be seen. But some P5 team will take on that risk. Based on where Nebraska sits right now, there is very little down side and a lot of potential upside. As I've said all along, we need to go big or go home. Choose to compete with the big boys or aim to be middle of the road. If we can't get Urb, there aren't any other big names out there that can instantly shake up our program in a good way. I don't know a lot about his offense/defense schemes but if he get the high ranking 'Joes' the 'Xs and Os" will take of themselves.

  25. After what he's done at Jacksonville State, I think we would be crazy not to give Deion a look.

  26. Admittedly, I don’t know much about most of his staff. But I have read that he has assembled an amazing staff at JSU considering the school. Quick glance through the staff directory and it does not appear to be JSU/HBCU buddies at all. Anyhoo…there’s not an assistant coach in the country who doesn’t answer the phone when Deion Sanders calls.

  27. I call bs on the "plain Jane white bread" bs. Your sideways attempt at bringing race into this is crap. The guy isn't qualified, period. This is coming from a mixed family that had had been associated with the program for 20 years if that matters. He seems like a great guy but he should have to prove it like anyone else in the profession.

  28. So what has he done to be more qualified. I'm all ears

  29. Also, the ironic part is you're literally one of the few programs we actually have a winning record against since joining the Big10. You're right on one thing, I sure do hope the tradition continues

  34. I can't tell what the point is you're trying to make, dawg. Kayvon Thibodeaux was a 5* recruit, rated by 24/7 Sports as a .9987. That apparently makes him their 49th highest ranked player of all time. And that's referring to his score entering into his true freshman year of college. So like, guy was 5th overall in the 2022 draft and had that written all over him as an athlete since he was like a junior in high school.

  42. (not so) Fun Fact: Last time we won a game following a bye week was 10/28/2017 at Purdue on a Lee to Morgan TD pass with 15 seconds remaining. It was the last win of the Riley era.

  43. To be completely fair, I don’t know near that much about him. When I hear Deion Sanders, I automatically think of the Neon Deion I knew as a player. I’ve said it before, I’m sure he’s a good coach, maybe even great, but I really don’t think he is ready to step up to P5, the B1G or Nebraska. Seems like some here are grasping at straws, thinking they’ve identified the next hot commodity. Sorry but I want somebody that’s been there, done that, not somebody who’s made waves in Pop Warner ball. Now you can quit trying to convince me. Not changing my mind.
