  1. Looks like we got some blind homer passively laughing at posts because he can't back up his opinion. If Joesph were such a great coach he not only would be at the top of Alberts list but other schools would reach out to him. This hasn't happened and again it's a clear case of a % of fans living in the past. This program needs a complete teardown and rebuild.

  2. Urban Meyer is a shady individual who has a peculiar relationship with the truth. He's demonstrated himself as an opportunist that's sought opportunities to exploit. "Excellent" coach. Low character human being. He got bored with college football, gave the pros a whirl and now he's seemingly flirting with other exploits again. There was the assistant that was abusing his wife. The disaster at Jacksonville. Cayman Nebraska. And the like. Plus, you never know if he might experience a brain aneurysm or some other health related issue to conveniently excuse himself. That he was receiving all that attention was the cause for him having a gleam in his eyes on set discussing Nebraska. Not the program. I can see the reasoning behind people's interest in Meyer. I just don't think the extent or significance of his character flaws is understood by most of his supporters. I'm not picking on you. I've liked a number of your posts. On this one we'll have to disagree about Urban Meyer being a home run hire.

  3. What a stupid thing to say. He’s coached two freaking games. Of course Alberts is continuing to pursue other options…we don’t know how the rest of the season will play out. But rest assured IF Mickey were to say, get us to a bowl, then he would absolutely be at the top of the list AND be getting pursued by other schools.

  4. If you've listened to Alberts repeated comments it's clear he wants a coach who can build a program. Howcome none of the guys locked in like Feldman, Thamel, etc have mentioned Mickey as a candidate? They've all mentioned Campbell and there was a rumor Trev had him last year before being overruled. 1 sloppy win against Indiana doesn't change the fact that this is a rebuild.

  5. I don't think I've given my (worthless) .02 on the Urban thing so I guess I will now. The problem with hiring Meyer at this stage of the game is it's highly unlikely that you're getting 2012 Urban Meyer, the Urban that came to tOSU and turned them into one of the end bosses of CFB. The guy who came in and completely flipped the Big Ten on it's head in terms of recruiting and program building. If you told me Nebraska was getting that Urban Meyer? Sign me the heck up. I don't think that Meyer exists anymore so for those reasons, plus the countless others that have been litigated, I'm out. The other challenge is I'm not sure if Urban is really a program builder versus the guy you bring in to max out your existing talent and supercharge everything. At UF and tOSU he walked into really talented teams that either had poor coaching (UF) or were stuck in a scandal (tOSU). The reason why guys like Ruhle/Leipold/Campbell are so appealing to me is whether we want to admit or not, Nebraska is a lot closer to the pits of hell that those guys coached at in Baylor, Kansas, Buffalo, Iowa State versus the sports cars at UF and Ohio State that just needed a higher octane gas. Nebraska needs a guy to rebuild the foundation and leave the program in a better place so (hopefully) the next guy can build on it.

  7. The quickest way to rebuild is acquire talent and Meyer has done that everywhere he's been. I won't waste too much time discussing Meyer because it won't happen but he's absolutely a home run hire.

  9. I made the same assessment you're making after the first couple games, but I've changed my mind. As far as the Indiana game goes, check out the box score stats: Taking out all 8 instances counted as QB runs, that's 40 runs called to our RB's to 27 pass plays. That's a 59% run/pass ratio and I think that's pretty run-heavy. And if you do count the QB runs it's really run heavy. Whipple seems to be understanding that Anthony Grant is really the heart of the offense and he's feeding him the ball a lot. Honestly I love all of the moving parts & weapons we've got and I think Whipple is starting to really click. Just don't pull your starting QB deep in your own territory again.

  11. MJ might emerge as a top candidate but it really depends on how these next 7 games go, doesn't it? If he can turn this thing around on such short notice with the deck stacked so heavily against him, it would be awkward to explain why he doesn't deserve a shot when Frost got to skate by on pure incompetence for years. And if he can't turn it around, oh well. Nothing lost.

  12. What is the relationship between Mickey and Coach O? I've long been the driver of the Matt Campbell bus, but am coming around to Mickey being the guy. Having a coach of color in a place like Nebraska is bigger than it appears combined with his ability to recruit and connect with players like no one we have seen in some time. If Mickey can build a staff, with which, by his relationship building abilities, there is no reason to doubt, he very well may be the guy.

  13. Every coach who's ever had a successful career had one place give them a chance before anyone else did. "If Mike Kryzewski was such a great coach in 1975 he would've gotten hired by somewhere better than Army." See how dumb that sounds?

  16. Ah, Antifa. The bogeyman wet dream of all the violent righties. Remember all the times, especially during the 2020 protests, where people right here on this very internet message board declared with a straight face that Antifa was this big threat to our great democracy? Good times. Like, with these Proud Boys, we know who their leader is. He's on trial. He has an office and an email address. I used to ask the people frothing about Antifa where their headquarters were, or who their leader was. Crickets.

  17. All of you with a thing for Meyer forget that every recruit has a mom, grandma, maybe a sister or a girlfriend. To knowingly hire someone who not just condones but hides spousal abuse and someone who comes with a pretty decent list of his own personal abusive and philandering behavior and make him the face of the program, is not an investment in the teams future, in fact it harms the program in a way I don't think we recover from. You don't just lose a lot of lifetime fans and financial supporters of the program (cuz they too have female friends and family members that they respect, or they're just moral people that will not continue giving money to such a program). If you think a parent is going to say "hel* yeah that's the guy I want showing my kid how to be a young man, I can't wait to send my son off to a program that condones and rewards that behavior". Heck lets say you're ok with the covering up for his abusive coaches and the public grinding women who are NOT his wife etc - would you knowingly send your son off to be coached by a man that verbally and physically assaulted grown men on a professional fb team? Why would stop him from doing the same to your son? So many posts about Mickey have been about how he is taking accountability for this team right now not tossing his coaches or his players under the bus ... did you see the Jaguars press conferences and how Meyer behaved? Would you want to run through a wall for that guy only to have him make snide and comments about you in public? Urban Meyer is an older, Scott Frost with just more successful years on his resume. He comes with all of Scotts issues AND the public spectacle. Past behavior is indicative of future behavior, and haven't we had enough of the frat parties and lack of focus and morals on this team?

  20. Matt had no hesitation criticizing other coaches and their staffs. Not so with his buddy. Plus, he's had bones to pick with pick with those on air in subtle and not so subtle ways that people might not recognize unless they were in the loop. He's a conceited donkey butt as far as I'm concerned.

  24. I guess you''d want all of the hospitals, schools, universities, counseling centers, pantry/food/clothing centers, social programs, compassion, aid & crisis organizations around the world to disappear as well. Plus we can discard good moral education and cultural benefits of faith as well which includes its positive influence on laws that govern our land. You do know there are wackos from all parts of society - faith (all religions) as well as non-faith/atheists/agonistics . Don't let the few destroy the view of the overall good. And don't let the Americanize, Evangelical church be the picture of the church worldwide. Many in that segment of the church have lost their way - but one day they will be restored back to truth or they will leave the church with their faith shipwrecked because they didn't trust in the true savior but a political Cult leader.

  26. There was a group of folks that Chappelle offended with his show. They tried to push Netflix to cancel his show. Netflix decided it was a money maker and did not cancel his show. Good for them. If people stopped watching his show they would cancel it. Sort of like Samantha B. First Avenue in Minneapolis cancelled his show just hours before kick off. They gave in to the protests and decided to lose the money on what was probably a sold out show. I suspect none of the protestors had purchased tickets anyway, so they managed to ruin the evening of the fans who wanted to see him. https://www.washingtonpost.com/arts-entertainment/2022/07/21/dave-chappelle-minneapolis-first-avenue-canceled/ Would you like to shift gears to examples from universities that have canceled various speakers that some students were upset about? That sort of takes the money issue out of it.

  30. Still, not censorship. If you think they tried to “censor” him, sounds like the public ended up “censoring” Netflix’s decision to cancel his special. Are you upset about that? Or are you okay since the “censorship” agreed with your beliefs? These are silly questions, because we all know it’s not censorship. It’s business decisions.

  32. Sure. But both statements can be true. And why would you make it a small NAIA school for the purposes of comparison? If Mickey Joseph had played at say Kansas State, and immediately gone into coaching, working his way up to become a successful position coach and a successful Assistant Head Coach at a premier LSU program, then came to Nebraska as an assistant, bringing with him some high-grade recruits from his football rich home turf and an overall reputation as a players coach and a recruiting ace, and just for kicks you find out his brother is an NFL head coach with all the connections that affords.........you just might say "Hmmmm. That could work." The fact that he has Husker ties and wants to be here? Why would that not be a plus, given that it's not the determinant? I think you mistake "drooling" for just giving the guy an honest chance if he does at all well in the interim. The assumption that Matt Campbell is preferable isn't something I'd hang my hat on, either.

  34. My guess is it's either sent directly from their Putinist handlers or the footage was dropped by a Russian bot on one of their dark right-wing sites like Parlor, Gettr or Truth Social and they picked it off. Either way it's telling especially considering their support of Putin by spouting off we need to stop funding Ukraine at this pivotal moment and instead fund disaster relief when they themselves voted against disaster relief. That's such a red herring. I would note the absolute silence in the "Russia" thread from our resident MAGA propagandists. Their fever dream is a Russian/US alliance that squashes liberal democracy around the world. Won't that be a hoot?

  37. The original post was about FIRE. BRB responded with a comment about comedians and I said "ask Dave Chappelle". That's how the shift to comedians happened. "I hear people say this about comedians. It’s not that long ago when comedians on tv couldn’t even say a swear word." However, groups of people trying to stop others from expressing views they disagree with is censorship to me, especially if it's accomplished through intimidation. Maybe the vast majority of First Avenue shows are for liberal clients and they decided it was better to sacrifice one show than future business.

  39. I don't think we have a choice. Everybody is going to watch how the rest of the season plays out, there's likely to be another couple firings, and then the best candidates will shop the best available openings for Christmas. The next seven games might also reveal the desirability of current coaches like Liepold, Campbell, and Aranda. I don't think anyone is waiting on Mickey, but he should be allowed in the mix and will already bring dumpster fire experience.

  40. I think you also have to look at the risk of not nailing down a candidate that might be at the top of other teams' list though by saying we're going to see how all 7 of the next games play out.

  41. I live way out of the Nebraska TV market. In the days before BTN, streaming etc I would have to listen to a lot of the games on a radio broadcast stream. I liked Matt a lot on that broadcast and it conjures up good memories for me. No Ill will toward Matt on my part. Best of luck!!
