Damn, really hope taking a dig at a stand-up guy like Martinez achieving this incredible accomplishment makes you feel better.7 points

I think I may have posted this somewhere before but I'm sure I read once that Omar is battling some mental health issues. He might not be helping the team but I hope everything works out for the young man.6 points

If you listen to the context, it wasn't in reference to the current players. The reporter from SI said it was a comment made during a recruiting meeting when Mickey asked if one recruit an assistant was talking about is a day one starter, and then said "We need f-ing players" Kirby Smart, Jimbo Fischer, Nick Saban, etc. I'm sure all make the same exact comments. If a player takes offense to that comment, you can be sure the coach was talking about you. Because the good players on the team should appreciate that the coach wants to improve the roster around them so they can win. And besides, this was during a coaching staff meeting, not the coach standing at the podium saying this to the press... Like with most situations, I think people approach things with far too much emotion.6 points

That guy was supposed to be so good. Dang it. Kind of like Betts. Frost had more misses than hits on the recruiting side. He didn't go after Burrow. We could have went after Max Duggan. We won't get the QB from Gretna. And that's just one position. The misses are everywhere on this roster.5 points

Every coach's job is to recruit over the players on the team. If the players don't understand that, that isn't a coach problem.5 points

It's really amusing to watch you die on this hill despite all evidence to the contrary.5 points

Any wonder why we played flat so often under Frost? His attitude being reflected onto the players.5 points

I really don't think that would happen, as funny as it would be. Trump would win the nomination in a landslide and DeSantis, if he runs, would go whimpering back to Florida like the slimy, moronic dog that he is. If DeSantis decided to run as a third party candidate, which is extremely doubtful, the MAGA horde would turn on him instantly. After Trump, they'll simply latch onto the next Trump-wannabe who, like DeSantis, will lack a single original thought, policy, and provide absolutely nothing other than empty substance. And the MAGA horde will love it.5 points

He is… he’s an offensive whiz, goes after top tiered assistants, could handle our media and feel like he’s not getting the backing he needs at Ole Miss… look at his comments about fan support and his comment about getting outbid by A&M feels like a jab at Ole Miss for not ponying up the cash5 points

That's where I am. If Mickey's chosen, it'll be because we couldn't get anyone better.4 points

I know you're a busy guy with work and church and all those other things you do when you're not posting here but you obviously didn't read the link I posted before or you wouldn't be passing yourself off as the expert in cognitive abilities and potential recovery post stroke.4 points

His body is half broken after suffering through four years of our O Line. It's understandable he doesn't have Heisman juice this year. It's amazing he's walking.4 points

Why do we keep talking about recruits and their comments being an indication of MJ’s future job status? @RedDenver has the correct view of this. MJ is making his recruiting pitches as the head coach, regardless of what next year brings. That’s what most head coaches would do. You worry about recruit retention if or when he’s replaced. He’d be at a huge disadvantage if he was selling himself as anything other than the head coach of now and the future, even if that doesn’t end up happening.4 points

I don't believe you're really this ignorant but just in case it's common with people recovering from a stroke. It's not an indication his cognitive function however. It's also not surprising you'd find it a hoot. https://www.statnews.com/2022/10/26/for-experts-on-stroke-fetterman-oz-debate-is-a-teachable-moment/4 points

Basically he had kids that were being used on special teams, etc, that didn't have as big of a role as they wanted so they asked to redshirt to preserve a year of eligibility. I honestly side with the coach on this one. You signed up to play for Auburn football and are likely getting a free ride to do just that, play football. It has always been up to coaching staffs when they red shirt or not. It is likely those kids planned to transfer so didn't want to burn the year but they were still taking that free year of education. BS entitlement imo.4 points

This is kind of a weird hangup when you realize Mickey Joseph has more D1 head coaching experience than Tom Osborne, Frank Solich, Bill Callahan, and Bo Pelini had combined when they took the job. And Nebraska was at a much higher level in the landscape of college football when those hires were made.4 points

I'm guessing Nov 20 is when a new head coach will be named. November 19 is the last regular season game for Jackson State and Deion.4 points

And here in lies the issue. I'll throw out a few quick names: Aranda Leipold Klieman Doeren DeBoer Chadwell (I just really like him) You bring up a very valid point. They are at a place having good success or at a place where 8-9 wins a years is status quo and completely acceptable. Why leave? NU is a dumpster fire. I think that the admn, boosters and fan base will not give the next guy 5 years to figure it out. Frost should've been on a SHORT leash in 2020 and gone after that crap show season. Which guy above would want that? Chadwell for the money? Maybe we have to look at a G5 coach (Chadwell), Sanders, an up and coming coordinator or MJ? MJ might not be the "best", but he might be the "best" we can get and more importantly might be the "best" guy for the job. Because maybe the "best" we can get might not actually be the "best" for the job.....I like MJ. I'd like to see what he could do with his staff and roster.3 points

That was a serious question. There’s a big difference between the best we can get and the best option. Fair enough though, I’ll answer. Better possible realistic options (in no particular order)… -Urban -Rhule -Deion -Petersen -Kiffin -Fickell -Someone big off the radar (Lincoln Riley/Brian Kelly type deal) who none of us are thinking of And honestly, after that, I’m with you. Give me Mickey over the generic run of the mill rinse and repeat names I’ve seen thrown around. I will give you this…if it’s not one of the 8 names above, we’re probably having this same conversation in 3-5 years. Does that answer your question?3 points

NU hired Kirby Smart? I guess it’s because we weren’t able to hire Nick Saban.3 points

Tell me which head coach will give up their current success, happiness, and paycheck, and whatever they built for the program, will leave all that for the opportunity to coach at Nebraska. Sounds like you might think coaching at Nebraska is a premier destination, among the best. Without considering the last 5-10-20 years.3 points

Yet, we'd probably never know which "big name" coach was "missed out on" if Mickey is offered the gig. It's unlikely Trev will "settle" for Mickey if there's truly a better option that wanted the job.3 points

If that perfectly sensible sound bite is all it takes for the team to “fold” then that makes the statement all the more true. “We need f—cking players”. As BRB said, it’s every coaches job to recruit over what they have. Any player(s) that don’t fully understand that would likely be part of the problem. Although it might be a little tough for them to hear. The thing we’ve been lacking is, it’s also the coaches job to develop the guys they do have and make them better. Any player worth keeping has to understand these things and also that winning is a requirement for everybody involved.3 points
-
Fair enough, and I agree with this point. Fans making inferences on Mickey's job status beyond 2022, based on what recruits are saying, are probably not the best source, and everything is pure speculation.3 points

The dude didn’t just struggle with “ a few words”. no matter how much you all want to gaslight for Fetty, he absolutely sucks as a candidate and the stroke obviously made him unelectable. His debate performance was awful even according to Dem professionals. It’s much more sad that his wife would allow this to continue more so than a “hoot” The “hoot” part is seeing people here defend his performance.3 points

Who has said she is "THE leader of the party." We all know who that is. It's Dear Leader. But, to act like she isn't gaining more and more power in the party....is either being dishonest in the name of party politics, or having your head in the sand.3 points

The fact is, prior to overturning Roe v. Wade, there were limits on late term abortions and states could set those limits as they see fit. But....obviously that's not good enough for Republicans. So, now for a Republican that celebrates overturning Roe v. Wade asking these questions, is pretty ridiculous.3 points

Recruits don't have any insight into what's happening. Mickey is of course going to tell recruits he's planning to be at Nebraska, but that doesn't mean anything since Mickey isn't making any of the decisions. Unless Mickey is hired as the HC, I don't foresee him or any of the current coaches still on staff next season. Just the way coaching changes go.3 points
-
BUT..but...but....MTG and Boebert and others aren't the voice of the GOP!!!!3 points

Don't get me wrong, I like Mickey, but why are so many so keen on keeping him as HC? You can hire another top coach - Kiffin or Aranda for example - and keep Mickey on staff, since he seems to be ok w/ that. That way you're getting a double dose of greatness.3 points

he supported the biggest criminal to ever hold office...why would he change now?3 points

I have thought about this possibility, but Bo's main issues were with his bosses (Perlman and Eichorst). Unfortunately his anger and sideline antics also turned off a good portion of the fan base, and he never allowed himself to have a connection with the fan base. His approach was an "us against everyone else" with his team, and I don't think that works in the long-run.3 points
-
I think you could potentially look at it like a call-to-action if you’re a current player. He didn’t necessarily say “we need new players.” Somebody already on the roster could take that next step, develop, and be the kind of guy MJ is looking for. (Admittedly, it’s not lost on me that some players might see that and take it personally.)3 points

We went after JUCOs quite a bit. Held recruited them a lot. Just few of them really turned into game-changers - Grant looks like the best of the bunch. But not many on the line. It's pretty hard to get JUCOs and transfers on the lines. The instant-impact guys get snatched up by the big boys. After that it's a crap shoot. We got a few, just no real contributors. 2018 - Greg Bell, Will Honas, Deontai Williams, Will Jackson, Jaron Woodyard, Mike Williams 2019 - Jahkeem Green, Desmond Bland, Dedrick Mills 2020 - Niko Cooper, Omar Manning, Pheldarius Payne, Nadab Joseph, Jordon Riley, Eteva Mauga-Clements 2021 - None (No JUCO season due to COVID) 2022 - Anthony Grant, DeShon Singleton3 points

Sure. But that doesn't give us any information about the coaching search because he'd say that or something similar regardless, which is the point we're making.2 points
