I really think Trev wanted him gone last year. The people that need to be gone are those who didn't let him do it.

I say none of this matters except the coaching search. Never have I felt that we were just going through the motions more than 2022. What a waste of a year.

There’s rumors out there. This may not have been 100% Trev’s call at the time or at minimum he had influence from high level boosters to keep Scott.

At that point, I just think you guys are arguing semantics. IMO, there is no difference between those 2 titles.

Hire a coach who can fun the option and we won’t need to compete for the traditional top recruits. Types like Frazier, Frost and Gill who are only two-star recruits for pro style offenses but 4+ for option will come to us. Same for blocking receivers. The o-line will follow, then with success we start getting better defensive players. Niche marketing. Simple concept. It is why we won from 1981-2001, and it wasn't even as much of a niche then.

Would make sense with nothing coming out, kids still committing and MJ still recruiting. Maybe Aranda, Orgeron, MJ, BB, and OC to yet be guessed. Who knows....

This is where Trev really screwed up. Frost needed to go last season and we would have had a new staff for this entire season. I feel really bad for the players who have endured another difficult year.

Unfortunately, most people thought that it would be when SF was retained. I know I was worried that it would be. Hoped that SF would turn it around, but still worried that it would be wasted.

I get your point, but if there was anything close to Deion being in talks with NU, Deion probably wouldn't have given the answer to Strickland that he did. If Deion were in talks with NU, Deion probably would have responded "I can't tell you much right now, but I would appreciate it if you kept things quiet and not release anything" and Strickland wouldn't have said anything on the radio.

Normally no, but Strickland and Deion are friends. I am sure Strick knows Deion isn't coming and knew that was a safe text exchange.

Not sure if this has been mentioned after the Deion rumors today. Erick Strickland was on Lincoln radio early this afternoon, after he personally texted Deion Sanders. Deion responded to Strick that "there is no truth" that Deion has accepted the NU job.

I'm not saying it's guaranteed that he would fail, but the odds and evidence don't point towards Deion having success here imo. Right now he's essentially succeeding as a cheat code. At that level, with his brand name, he's able to do the one thing he's good at which is out-recruit everybody else in a low division (already an unfair fight), and then just use that massive talent gap to sleepwalk into wins against teams drastically outmatched (even more of an unfair fight). Those advantages would be drastically equalized at the P5 level and at a place like NU which is not in rich recruiting territory. I basically see him as similar to that coach in the first two seasons of Last Chance U.

Yes, you can only have 11 coaches (including the HC) on staff. And analysts can't on field (practice or game) coach. Remember the whole ST analyst kerfuffle that we had? If the powers that be are fine with us having 9 assistant coaches instead of 10, then by all means go for it. Do you have any instances of a new coach being hired mid-season and starting to recruit?

There's a great article out, saw a tweet from someone, can't remember who, but Newby led the team out of the tunnel last week. He's now serving and he was one of the military people that led the team out for the game as part of our Veterans tribute.

Why in the world would you say those 5 names are "all the coaches on the list?" Are you just basing that on this one vague FootballScoop report? They didn't even say those are the final names and didn't even mention Campbell. That same site last year put out similar reports for USC around this time that had Luke Fickell, Hugh Jackson, Dan Quinn, Dave Aranda, and Raheem Morris. And we saw how that worked out. None of these "reporters" has any more insight or inside info than another. They're just throwing out names based on their thoughts and what they're hearing from people with their thoughts. I give these types of reports zero credence at this stage of the game. Someone may leak it early as we get closer, but it will be someone with some credibility who will stand by it as fact, not just another website with a "here's who our insiders are saying to keep an eye on" type report.
