  1. Mangino was in Kansas City today. I saw him at a gas station asked me how to get to 435. Told him, “exercise and a diet.” (Just wanted to get a new name in before they announce)

  3. Fickell’s resume is better than 2 of the 3 you listed, and the 3rd isn’t interested in coaching anymore currently.

  4. Dang went from saying Mickey is the guy to maybe it is Fickell. Can't be wrong if you say everyone will be the head coach

  5. Yes, a coach 11 months removed from the College Football Playoff is a gutter hire.

  6. Also, Fickell has more CFP appearances than Kiffin.

  8. Please don't do this - don't label a women as "postpartum?" just because she has a small child or two at home. Unless you are her clinician thats not your place. The fact that she was managing 1-3 little ones (I think they had three this final year) or the fact that she was doing it all alone because her husband was drinking and drugging and screwing coeds in addition to being the most visible man in the state plays no part in him being a failure. It' was a HUGE job, and like a lot of people, Scott had a lot going on personally. In addition to his high stress job that required lots of hours and visibility, he was still choosing to spend time at places besides work or home, and in what sounds to be an "effected" state. A more mature, less narcissistic person would have tried to find help before the inevitable crash and burn. I'm assuming some around him personally or at work tried to get him to do this, or at least I hope he had good people in his life that recognized the state he was in. It would have made for a softer landing for sure. Scott's behaviors and decisions were why he got fired, it wasn't because his wife had a baby.

  9. Fickell would 100% be a "big time" hire.

  10. A guy with no clear Nebraska ties and a relatively small Twitter following spreading rumors about what Nebraska is offering contractually. Sorry, M.A., this isn't directed at you. But I trust 1-ply toilet paper more than that guy.

  11. We keep talking about the dumpster fire and long rebuild the next coach will inherit. But isn't Nebraska literally and obviously close? As in that same MAC level talent taking ranked teams to the wire last season? And couldn't merely a couple key players or plays have turned Northwestern, Georgia Southern, Purdue, Minnesota, and Wisconsin into wins, putting the Huskers at 8-3 heading into Iowa and a bowl game? Imagine the difference just marginally better offensive linemen would make. Or a slightly more cohesive offensive scheme. Or the kind of fourth quarter confidence that comes directly from coaching. It is literally the difference between 3-9 and 8-4 and it actually can happen overnight. Especially with a smart coaching staff and a lively portal. You know the secret to a winning culture? It's winning. I have absolutely no trouble dumping my hefty expectations on the new guy. Or gal. Let's not close any doors.

  12. This shouldn't matter. Carolina is on the hook for all $40 million if he goes and sips margaritas on the beach for the rest of his life. They should be HAPPY if anyone at all hires him and reduces the amount.

  13. Remove his first year at Temple and Baylor and it’s 44-22. Remove his first two years at each of those and it’s 31-10. Both places dumpster fire turnarounds. I doubt I can sway you any as you seem set on another guy where apparently a 2-7 record doesn’t matter. But there is context involved in all of these numbers. I’ll be a happy camper when Rhule is named HC in a few days.

  15. If we do land rhule and leaves for penn st in a few years then thats a good problem to have because its prolly indicative of him having success here if psu would grab him. to answer your question on Rhule the coach. Rhule has a very solid reputation from Texas hs coaches across the board that raved about his presence and approach to recruiting. Additionally, Rhule also has a solid track record of developing guys in college, both at temple and baylor, that made the pros despite not being well known out of hs. Lastly, he's known as a top notch culture guy. Quick summary that isn't needed but thought was related to what I outlined on Rhule: Things Nebraska has absolutely failed at the past 10 years: Having a coherent and consistent recruiting strategy and presence Developing talent the second it steps on campus that will succeed in your system Having a winning culture, team spirit and cohesion. I'll be ecstatic if Rhule is in Lincoln.

  16. Fickell… hmm ok. Rhule - he would be on nobody’s list had he not been fired. Nobody here would have said, “yeah we should try to poach the Carolina coach..” These are the choices? Keep Mickey then.

  20. Luke Fickell is not anywhere close to the SF scenario. IMO, LF would be a homerun hire. LF was on OSU's staff under Jim Tressel for 9 seasons, the last 6 as the Co-DC/LB coach. He then had a stint as the interim HC at Ohio State for a season (2011) after JT left due to the scandal. Urban Meyer retained him on his new staff at OSU as the CO-DC/LB coach for 5 more seasons. LF then took the Cinncinati job in 2017. LF took over at Cincy after Tommy Tuberville was let go; TT inherited a 9-10 win Cincy program from Butch Jones and turned it into a 4 win program after 4 seasons and only 1 player drafted into the NFL. LF took a season to right the ship, winning only 4 games in his first season. After that, his Cincy teams went 11-2, 11-3, 9-1, and 13-1 last season (including an appearance in the CFB Playoff). His team last year had 9 players drafted into the NFL, including Sauce Gardiner, 5 of which went in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd rounds. This year LF's team is 9-2, despite losing a ton of talent off of last year's team, a tribute to the depth he has built there. Overall LF has a wealth of experience coaching under 2 national title winning coaches, he has experience what being the HC at a big time program would be like (admittedly just for 1 season, but he also had to deal with all of the interim coach pressures & questions at OSU that MJ has dealt with this year at NU), and he has built Cincy into a powerhouse program that will be moving to a power 5 conference next year. LF emphasizes O-Line play (https://www.si.com/college/cincinnati/football/luke-fickell-we-are-an-offensive-line-driven-program), culture, and player development. He also has the ability to properly assess and recruit talent, Cincy isn't quite as tough to recruit to as many non-P5 programs, but it doesn't have the same resources as say Nebraska. Despite the lack of resources, LF has Cincy 25th in the composite team recruiting rankings this year after inheriting a team that was in the 60's and 70's when he took over.

  21. Side note: Are you all getting an annoying Best Buy pop up that takes up 1/4 of the screen? Some of the ads on HB have much to be desired. I hope Trev announces Sat or Sunday early. I hope it is Fickell, Rhule, Klieman, or Aranda - if Rhule hasn't been 'rhuled out'. Seems like most others have been rhuled out already based on posts - which have the creditability of a guess.

  27. This quote, from former Republican Chief Justice Warren Burger, has always stood out to me. "In retirement in 1991, Burger said that the Second Amendment “has been the subject of one of the greatest pieces of fraud, I repeat the word fraud, on the American public by special interest groups that I have ever seen in my lifetime.” “The very language of the Second Amendment,” wrote Burger, “refutes any argument that it was intended to guarantee every citizen an unfettered right to any kind of weapon he or she desires. … The Framers clearly intended to secure the right to bear arms essentially for military purposes.”

  28. Trev finds an old, yellowed piece of paper in the AD desk , with scribbles and faint writing as if it were written in 2003. “How to rebuild Nebraska football”…. 1. Hire unsuccessful former NFL coach after everybody says no.

  29. Our S&C program is CRAP. Duval has sacrificed speed and flexibility for overall strength. Our players, especially in the trenches, have become WAY to stiff which results them in being slow also.

  32. Isn't she currently a leader of the GOP? I'd be hard pressed to find a Republican who has a bigger platform or more prominent position as a fundraiser attraction. Her race in Georgia wasn't even close. Her voters won't care what committee she's on. The party has every opportunity to reign in the MTG rhetoric but she is far from alone: it's essentially the GOP baseline. And she's the media clip darling. I don't think there's a higher office waiting for MTG and there's a long slow stupid Sarah Palin descent in store, but this is her moment and she's a party leader.

  33. Does anyone really believe that Trev and Mickey haven’t talked about this? That would be a gargantuan elephant wooly mammoth in the room , everyday, every room .. Trev: Hey Mickey.. what’s up ? Mickey: Nothin’. Both: Welp.. see ya later !

  34. Fickell has been nothing short of outstanding at Cincy. He's 57-17, he and his staff appear to be good recruiters, and he preaches about the LOS being your team's greatest strength. You'll probably need to Google his schemes if you're interested in that. Defensively their "base" is a 3-3-5 but, like any good defense, they mix & match. Offensively, they run a balanced up-tempo offense mostly out of shotgun. No clue on his staffing decisions. My advice is to not get caught up in that stuff too much and just trust that whomever the new HC is puts together a staff that he thinks gives him the best opportunity to win. It is highly likely that he'd bring at least a portion of his current staff with him. It is rare that a new HC build a staff of people he hasn't worked with before or had coach for them before.

  36. Some consider the Baylor disaster was as bad as the Penn State disaster in terms of what the programs were like post scandal. What Rhule did there was outstanding and he must have recruited and developed guys in order for that to happen and he left Aranda a full cupboard

  39. I think a bowl game is entirely possible next year. There are 130 FBS teams. We play 4 that are currently 111th or worse: Colorado 126th in SP+ No Illinois 117th in SP+ La Tech 120th in SP+ Northwestern 111th in SP+ Then to make a bowl we just need to get 2 wins from Minnesota, Michigan, Illinois, Purdue, Mich State, Maryland, Wisconsin, and Iowa.
