  1. I would like to see our some of our youthful LB's with speed line up as DE's on passing downs and actually get pressure on the QB ala Super D in 2003. From all reports, we have the speed and the depth to do this. Stay healthy. See Armstrong See speed on D capable of actually sealing the edge and actually getting to said edge before the RB or QB breaks off 70 yrd runs like Wisky The new and improved Cross No penalties, ability to tackle and no fumbles A punt return man capable of catching the ball. A decent KO coverage unit Guys pass the "eye ball" test ie leaner, meaner, quicker. Kind of like SEC teams..............
  2. just look south to Manhattan Kansas....ill bet their playbook didnt have 10 plays in it last year... They also played incredibly sound disciplined football with a great grasp of the fundamentals. Something we really need to hammer out. The missed tackles, fumbles and penalties have probably cost us at least one game per year. Last year I think about the fumble against UGA (momentum killer) as one. Throw in the INT's against Michicken in 2011 etc.... You get the picture. The lack of consistent play has got to change. If not, we are still a 4 loss team regardless of talent or scheme IMO. Between this book, the towel drills and Bo commenting this week that starters will also play ST means that he is seriously addressing these issues (at least I hope!).
  3. does a defense need to be so confusing that it takes 120 pages to explain everything that went wrong? I agree it is complicated. Others on this board will disagree. My point being, Bo has taken the lead and painstakingly put every single mistake from that scrimmage on paper and then after showing that mistake, showed the correction. I liken this to learning in any environment. Some learn better from being shown, others from listening etc..... Bo (at least from the article) finally taken the time to show in a clear and concise manner (IMO) how his D is supposed to look and be run. I am hoping that some kids saw this and the light bulb went on and they had their ah hah moment. Like Carl above, I am tired of coach speak and their doesn't seem to be a lot this year. From the staff or the kids. Attention to detail ie FUNDAMENTALS will pay huge dividends. The top teams this year were solid with the basics ie tackling, penalties and ball control. Master these and even an average team would stand a great chance of making a run. Like Al Pacino said, football like life is a game of inches, change inches to details and it is a comparable analogy. Fix the small details and a lot of our issues go away. This approach is fine is an activity where there is time to think before you act, but football requires split second decisions. With only 1 exception Bo's defenses have had at least one or two games per season when they were gouged, including his national championship at LSU. Unless Bo has superior talent his scheme doesn't work. Last year the NU D broke a couple Cosgrove records. It is time to slim down the playbook and return to an attacking defense. I am tired of hearing how the young guys are better athletes but don't see the field until they are seniors because they don't know the system. With 85 scholarships (17 per year), players have to start playing in their sophomore year to have any chance of competing unless every recruit is a success. David is a prime example of a guy getting his shot before he "knew" the system. IIRC, his first game in 2011 he had like 15 tackles and Bo said he was basically out of position. His athleticism allowed him to simply get the NU all time tackle record in a mere 2 yrs, not to mention IMO, he won OSU and Penn St in 2011. I hope that Bo is getting the more athletic types who can run ie more what we had in 2009. Same D as now, but with stars at all 3 levels. Get the talent that Cally had (Bo appears to be getting it right with the lst 2 classes) and we will see a D comparable to 2009 IMHO.

  5. Upon return from spring break, the D was given a 120 page "book" from the defensive scrimmage melt down prior to break. Circled mistakes and commented on the "fix". Seems like Bo really knows the D has to step up. "I did it so they could see the level of detail required and the things we need to do to have great success," Pelini said. "I was saying, 'This is reality. This is where we are, and this is where we have to go.'" Good comments from players as well. "Our motto this year is it's time to put up or shut up," defensive back Ciante Evans said. "Fans are expecting [a championship], and honestly I believe one needs to be delivered. But we've been talking about it so long; we need to just go out and do it." http://espn.go.com/b...ear-last-hurdle Not drinking the koolaid, have heard too much coach speak, BUT these actions say a lot. Bo knows what needs to be done and is really trying to get it right. I like it.
  6. I am a skeptic. Until the staff shows you can take true or RS fresh, plug them in on D and win, I am a skeptic. Until we avoid the traditional blow outs, I am a skeptic. Until we stop the idiotic penalties, missed tackles fumbles, I am a skeptic. It seems we do not even do the basics well so how can we expect to be great? For me, it is not so much the W-L at the end of each of Bo's seasons, but the embarrassing beat downs we have received. The B1G last year still burns. A 3rd string QB, 3 backs over 100 yrds and a huge melt down. Until Bo shows he can avoid these, call me a skeptic. Every team has youth and inexperience. I am tired of that is an excuse. I am tired of the "playing" in a new conference (see A&M). Time for this staff to put up or shut up. Teach the fundamentals and play good sound football for 4 quarters.
  7. Scream from Body Building.com (crazy amount of caffeine 300 mg) Proanox velocity (smooth with no crash) Their Genesis is awesome for joint pain Scivation novem I am interested in the atlarge nutrition pre-workout I like scream and the atlarge as they specifically list the amount of each ingredient instead of some "blend" with numerous ingredients and stuff I can't pronounce. The tingling you are feeling is from the Beta-Alanine (I love that feeling!) On another note, for those looking at crossfit hybrids check out Grey Skull Linear or even Crossfit football or crossfit mayhem. They include the basic lifts with the traditional WODS or METCONS of CF. Also SPDcrossfit has the basic lifts with accessory lifts and then the WODS/METCONS. Bottom line, do something.
  8. Kid is a baller. At that age, giving up Sr year spring break, to meet with a QB coach says a lot. He wants to win and is doing everything possible to assist in winning. Including paying for and sacrificing his own time to do this and get better. As mentioned, cutting the fumbles would be a huge improvement that would make his game look exponentially better with all else being the same. Smart move by the staff. Give the younger guys the reps in practice. Martinez gets banged up tons during the season. No reason to risk an injury. Year four they (staff) knows what they have in Martinez.
  9. Teams, IMO, would be crazy to pass on Rex if they are need of a work horse RB. Not saying he would be a featured back as some complain of his lack of "top end" speed, but are crazy to not think that this kid wouldn't help a team. Would love to see my Cowboys or Panthers scoop him up.
  10. Folks still glad to see Heard moving on............. Seems prophetic when folks said he was one play away from starting. Any chance he comes back or has that ship sailed?
  11. 16 MRAPs . . . Supposedly used to serve high risk warrants. That said, you could revive one of the old threads about the militarization of our civil departments. Actually 2700 is what the news reported DHS just purchased. It is possible that 16 are currently in use by Special Response Teams for the use of high risk warrants. I was referring to the news listing the newest acquisition.
  12. Tell that to the people convinced Obama is hell bent on tyranny. I don't believe he is "hell bent on tyrranny. I just think he is clueless on any solution other that government control. But..... It you have to wonder some times by just looking at the topics on this board. Gun control = Take more fire power away from the citizens. Drone Strikes in US = Ability to attack citizens. Government take over of industry = Health Care/Auto industry Control of who has what = Redistribution of wealth controlled by government 1.7 billion rounds of ammunition Drone Strikes on USC's 2700 MRAP's (mine resistant armored personnel carriers) 7,000 Personal defense weapons Gun control Just saying, on the surface, looks rather odd. (All of the above purchases by US DHS)
  13. In a recent article Bo talked about this whole D being "more athletic" and faster. Mentioned he wants them to think less and play faster. Again, with our "talent" on D last year we were lucky to win 10. We were swimming in the shallow end for sure. This year, we have speed. Our LB's are young and will make mistakes. BUT they have the athleticism to cover up these mistakes. Also liked the comments from Paps about Rose (IIRC) being used as an "eraser" this year. Paps said, a guy who is capable of coming up and getting a stop or making a play in the open field when the front 7 miss. We had the Peso and now the Eraser. Peso allowed Haag to run free and excel. Maybe the Eraser will do the same.
  14. Wow. Under "extraordinary circumstances" AG Holder feels it is Constitutionally allowable to use US Military on domestic US targets. http://washingtonexaminer.com/eric-holder-drone-strikes-against-americans-on-u.s.-soil-are-legal/article/2523319 I really hope this is along the lines of how would we stop a zombie apocalypse................You know just pretending.
  15. Says a lot about his character IMO. Good to hear.
  16. Hes right in front in either a fur coat, or a ghille suit. In my mind, it is a Griz coat. For the records, those kick a$$.
  17. You must have been quite upset with the GOP for resisting the 1 year extension of that tax cut in the late fall of 2011 . . . thankfully they eventually yielded to Democratic pressure. Not really. IIRC, there was baggage associated with the extensions other than just a simple vote of extend or not. BUT same broken record from either party. Throw in one parties sacred cow with stuff you want and it gets voted down. Then blame the party for "obstructing" a plan great for America. Its politics and the losers are We the people......One trying to upstage the other. Dems were against extending tax cuts, saw an opportunity to gain some ground and took it. Same with the sequester. Dems against, Reps for it. Depending on how things shake out in the next few weeks will show more of the same pandering. If no real notice, Dems take credit for trimming fat and making smaller, more transparent govt. Sequester causes issues, Reps claim they offered chance for Obama to make cuts to programs at his discretion. Same old same old. Look at the sequester issues govt offices are looking to employee: Limit travel Watch training and conferences Hiring freeze Fill only mission critical positions These were the great ides? Give me a friggin break. This crap should be the responsibility of every agency. Not to mention "fiscal hawks" have found approx 45 billion unclaimed/assigned monies in DC. Really? 45 billion basically unfunded monies. And we wonder why we have a 16.1 trillion dollar deficit. Long answer to your question, R for me is better than D. Not the party I grew up with, but IMO still better. In the land of the blind, the one eyed man is king. As soon as Americans realizing the only ones losing are us, we can actually work towards some real change in DC.
  18. The irony. The sequester accounts for approx 2% of the current federal budget. Much fan fare was made about its costs and ramifications yet the vast majority of us saw our own taxes (SS) increase that much in Jan without so much as a blip from DC.
  19. It is odd reading this thread that people blame religion for many of its past and even current failures, but gives no credit for its humanitarian outreach. As Knapp so eloquently put above ref violence and religion if you take "religion" out of the mission field, would the missions still be completed. IMO, no. The missions succeed because of religion from its funding, volunteers, outreach and logistical support and calling from Christ to help those in need. I will also bring up abortion. Many do not believe that life begins at conception. (not wanting to start a discussion on this issue), but as Christians oppose abortion and they have the belief that it is murder, they are often berated for this view. They caused wars....bad. They believe in the sanctity of life......bad. Religion, in certain cases and places, takes on more of the role of a government than an institution. For me, it is about a relationship. People get caught up in the traditions of man instead of following the commands of Christ. For example to "belong to this church you need to do A, B and C." IMO, people get caught up in following the church and its edicts instead of Christ and his. Sadly, these discussion, like politics become nothing more than the sound of clanging gongs competing to be the loudest............... Just my .02.
  20. Here is an excerpt from AG Holder, IMO, using language to try and scare the American people. "The Justice Department is going to lose nine percent of its budget between now and September 30th. We're going to lose $1.6 billion. There are not going to be as many FBI agents, ATF agents, DEA agents, prosecutors who are going to be able to do their jobs," Holder said. "They're going to be furloughed. They're going to spend time out of their offices, not doing their jobs." The current guidelines are that a 30 day notice must be sent to those employees being furloughed. This would not make the furloughs immediate. They would start April 1. The current plan is to have employees furloughed for 2 days per month for a total of 14 days until Sept 30 or until the issue is resolved. I do not think this will impact the security of the US. Take into account scheduled leave, sick days etc and I am sure that you have this many people unavailable during the course of a normal month. It is not like an entire office of 300 people or even 5 would be on furlough the same day. Financial issues for the families? Absolutely. Less secure or an increase in crime? No. Both sides knew this was coming since 2011. BS for the past several months they have been laying the blame on the other instead of sitting down and settle the problem. For the record, this admn first suggested the sequester to Congress in 2011 per Bob Woodward. Congress passed it. I have also seen an article stating "fiscal hawks" have found approx 45 billion in unspent/non designated funds. My question, now that push has come to shove they find this. Why haven't they been looking for monies like this all along.
  21. Is this aimed at me? no, it's aimed at the f*cktards in DC, that by not being able to get this worked out, hosing me out of a job that could make me 10k more a year, have better benefits, and actual normal human hours, instead of living like a goddamn vampire like I have for the past 5 and a half years... Thanks. After re-reading didn't think so. I agree with your sentiments. I have some skin in this game, and am planning to take a hit as well. This on top of the SS issue (not blaming anyone or party) and this is shaping up to be leaner year than I had anticipated. It sucks for sure. They (both sides) are killing the economy (not just this issue), but because they don't give 2 shi$$ about the people who actually employee them (the voters). I wish we could hold recall elections and fire them all. All sides. Again, hopefully things will work out. I sadly doubt it though.
  22. The dems are spinning this as though the world will stop revolving on March 1. Not true. The vast majority (all) Americans not employed by the Fed Gov will not even know it happened. Fed employees in critical areas are currently being advised they will be furloughed 2 days per month until Sept 30 or the issue is resolved. Will it hurt for those effected? Absolutely. Will all BP Agents be furloughed the same day? Ridiculous. Sadly the dems and media are pumping this crap out like gospel and Americans believe it. Pure BS. The border is going to be wide open? really? Military combat ineffective? Really? The issue I have is that this admn wants to continue to play the blame game instead of owning the 16 trillion dollar debt. We still have yet to have a Senate presented budget since 2009. They continue to holler for taxing the rich while refusing to concede on their sacred cows of social programs. IMO, repubs have conceded enough. Make the dems wear this dress they have sewn. For those on this board being effected, best of luck. Sad that budget BS again comes on the back of workers as opposed to cutting the giveaway programs.
  23. Rex has football speed and quicks as evidenced by the agility and cone drills. Top end speed is great. Once you break the tackles, elude the D, pick up the blitz, catch the ball in the flats etc..........There is a lot more to football than top end 40 times. Emmit Smith topped a whopping 4.55 and he did all right. Talent scouts are not stupid. They see a kid who works his a$$ off, scored high in several (IMO) more every down football statistics, can pass pro, run and catch as well as a little Rex cat and who was only the featured back one year at NU. Injuries aside, he has really little wear and tear compared to some of the guys coming out. not saying he will be some teams every down back, but at 5'10 and 214 the kid has the size to get the yards. Also has an uncanny and sought after ability to really never lose a yard. he has that ability to turn and maneuver to get that extra yrd even stood up in the middle of a pile. I think he goes in round 4, maybe 5. after that he is the deal of the century.
  24. Bottom line......... It is about relationships with Christ not a religion. Heart knowledge vs head knowledge. The Bible specifically says that His ways confound the wise and that His ways are not ours. I laugh when those who choose not believe have all the answers. If you do not believe then great. You want to use logic and science to prove God does't exist. Great. That is why it is called faith. Is is very prideful, IMO, to think that as mere humans we have answers to put God in a box and prove Him to be a myth and can so easily "prove he doesn't exist". Also to use logic that is so prevalent. If you do not know Christ, how can you know his desire for you? How can you know what he is doing in your life? How can you feel the presence of the Holy Spirit? How can you feel his peace in tragedy? That's right. You can't. No more than you can get any of the above from some stranger in China. Before Christ ever wanted anything from us, He wanted something for us. Heart vs head fellas. Heart vs head.......................
