  1. it didn't warrant a response AT ALL... I know you have your "party line" you have to follow, but be objective at least once in a while. and by the way, it was not directed at KW or "at the DL". just those who would quit on their teammates.
  2. how anyone is still defending kevin williams after his tweets is just crazy to me. you can say jp deserved it, but that's being hypocritical. there should be no place for that kind of talk. everyone needs to just move on. let it go. if you don't think he was taking parting shots at the school and the current staff in his interview, that's fine. at the very least, those tweets should show you the kind of person he is. and that has nothing to do with what JP has ever said or done. Bottomline, he's gone, thankfully. goodbye. surely there are better things about nebraska football to discuss than this.
  3. When did Riley say we might be more than fine? in the post spring game presser Ah, ok. I thought you meant Riley was saying addition by subtraction. But he wasn't saying that at all. He was just expressing excitement about the guys who were coming back. I like Riley's demeanor and attitude a lot. i think it was a double entendre. but ok.
  4. i think it's probably a good idea for people to listen to the segment themselves before going with 2nd hand commentary here...
  5. When did Riley say we might be more than fine? in the post spring game presser
  6. clearly this guy thinks he's better than, or more accurately, thinks he's too good to be coached by the nebraska coaching into the NFL, and too good to play with the current team. like riley said, we might be more than fine.
  7. He says he did that. and... how long did he wait for a response? btw, if you knew how much of a drama queen this guy is, would you take his call on the first ring?
  8. To me, this is just really disappointing from thatguy. It shows that he clearly doesn't pay attention, like when Kenny was doing workouts with our new/current wide receivers coach, like when Kenny said TODAY that it has nothing to do with the football staff, like when Kenny has consistently heaped praise on the program before and after his coach's departure, etc. Also, making an assumption that he HASN'T reached out to the staff or someone in the AD about the issue seems weird, since we dont' know if that has or has not happened. Nothing against that, since he's a grown man on a messageboard, but if he wanted to actually make good observations, he would do his research and be well informed before spouting off on the internet blasting it to the world. lol. yea. because the fact that a player trained with a coach means he loves him and will support him and his school 100% with all his actions. for crying out loud, a tv with records was turned off, with no real indication if all that data was getting expunged. are his tweets actually doing a service or disservice to the perception of the football program among national media, fans and recruits? no matter what he says about loving the current coaches and players, the ones taking the most hits from his tweets are the current coaches and their coaching and recruiting efforts.
  9. To me, this is just really disappointing from kenny bell. it shows that he clearly has no relationship with the current staff, nor does he intend to develop one, even though there's every opportunity for him to connect. Nothing against that, since he's a grown man. but if he wanted to connect and truly be of help, he would reach out to the staff to try to correct the issue first before blasting it out to the world. putting it on twitter like that is very counterproductive, and is pretty shady considering that you haven't heard much positive news or vibes coming from him regarding Nebraska since he left no matter what is happening in the program.
  10. so question about hughes... when people say he didn't have a good relationship with players and recruits, what does that really mean?? was he racist or condescending or just not willing to allow himself to work with people outside his generation?
  11. this situation is just silly, and thats just putting it lightly. so because a coach made a small mistake while getting to know you, you decide you will torpedo your own career and education by selecting a low-ranking, middling team and school? i get that nebraska coaches made mistakes. i really do. and i get that he's the recruit. but is he looking at the big picture? he's really going to abandon the hometown school, with all the exposure, facilities, benefits and proximity it comes with, just to go to minnesota, of all schools, just because of a getting-to-know-you mistake made months ago? really?
  12. saw a posting on twitter saying John Weiss is a new coach and Nebraska. anyone know what's going on?
  13. keep em coming guys. I know some of the coaches keep some tabs on what message-board-land thinks. for me though, in addition to being willing and able to sit some players at least temprarily, they need to start the following: - play the running back that's the best at, oh, running the ball. - design offensive gameplans that give you the best chance to win according to the nature of the opponent, weather, and available players, not just because it looked pretty in your head. -
  14. Forget wins and losses for a second. The fact remains that the staff is still in their first year, in a completely different environment from what they are used to. it doesn't excuse some of their mistakes, but it also means that they can still change the trajectory significantly, if they make the right changes. What changes do you think they must make now in order for you to believe that they will get this program back where it needs to be? for me, being able to (temporarily) bench or work around struggling starters is one. what's yours?
  15. Didn't you post in another thread that you observed during the game that Banker had to say "look at me" in order to get their attention in order to coach them and the players looked disinterested? How can you claim this is coaching if the players aren't accepting coaching? That kind of player behaviour is inexcusable considering they aren't even playing to the same level as OSU under Banker. This sounds like a case of players missing their BoBo and considering Gerry dissed Banker's D at B1G media days this piss poor attitude has been there for a while. If it sounds like I'm calling out the players, I am. So a coach is incapable of commanding respect from his players, and that makes him a great coach with bad players??? You guys don't even realize the crazy contortions you're going through to excuse inexcusably bad coaching at the expense of student athletes. I'm not defending the coaches and think there are plenty of problems with coaches and players. I could change your last sentence to read "You guys don't realize the crazy contortions you're going through to excuse inexcusably bad effort by the players at the expense of coaches". It really depends on one's agenda. This concept of buying in by the players is nonsense. They should be executing the coaches scheme to the best of their abilities and let someone else evaluate the coaches. Their scholarship is being paid by UNL, not Bo. Earn it. Fans are criticized for wanting to fire a coach in his first year but we give the players a pass for giving up in the same time frame? If players are giving up it makes it very difficult to evaluate the coaches. It was incredibly stupid of Eichorst to bring in a .500 coach to replace Bo if he wanted to get instant respect from the players. I'm not sure it would matter. Look at Texas. Strong brought a good rep into Austin but I wouldn't say he got immediate buy-in from the players. Maybe we're coddling the players too much. Do they realize that their lavish locker rooms were purchased with the sweat of players that made huge sacrifices to achieve great success? Do they think the fans shouldn't have high expectations for them? I think they're big boys and should be able to handle criticism of how they are playing. while it's true that the players should be trying to execute the coaches scheme to the best of their ability, put yourself in their shoes for a second. have you ever played any team sport on a team whose coach is using methods that YOU KNOW is just not producing, and the coach really isn't even willing to examine maybe changing things around? if it is proven game after game that the scheme you are playing in really isn't that great for you as a player to begin with for whatever reason, after a while even the most motivated player will lose confidence. the only way you are having an effort discussion in game 9 is if the coaches have no guts to do what needs to be done. or they've just lost the players. either way, its bad on the coaches.
  16. Riley didn't want to count Tommy as part of the travel roster, and didn't ask the Big Ten for a waiver to bring him along as an injured player. probably because riley doesn't believe in his leadership. if you go by body language and some other tells, some of the motivation issues on the team are aided and abetted by the starting qb. that's just a total guess from me though.
  17. I'm not saying he's a bad coach. he might actually be a great coach (even though i didn't like the hire from the beginning). you are probably right about him being in the skybox, but to not have anyone in the DB's ears giving encouragement or correction during the game is sad and speaks to really poor leadership and a serious lack of cohesion. and that brings up another point i haven't heard addressed: I think its very likely that there are serious divisions on the staff. i honestly do not believe they are all on the same page. and the players can tell. just another reason why fans can't blame players for not buying in. coaches are not all bought in themselves.
  18. i was at the purdue game, and while i saw other positional coaches talking to their guys, coach stewart wasn't even on the sidelines, and no one was talking to the secondary after any series. occasionally you would see banker walk over and say something, but the players would just be looking away while he spoke. one time banker had to stop what he was saying and say "look at me" like 3 times before one of the secondary guys even paid him any mind. riley would walk past them and it just seemed like the secondary were guys on the other team, with the body language of both him and the players. i really think riley has lost the team already. it just hasn't shown yet because the players actually do care about the N. people need to stop with the "bo-guys" nonsense. its not about that. no matter how much any of the players loved bo, these coaches have had bad plans for most games. no one is gonna buy what you are selling when you haven't shown you can coach or motivate or gameplan your way out of a wet paperbag.
  19. to add to the comments on gerry, i was at the game and saw at least twice when gerry could have just easily knocked the ball down for an incolmpletion, but then instead made a poor attempt at an interception. both times, the receiver caught the ball. much like the final play of the byu game. Gerry has been a poor safety this year. it's one thing to make a case that players should simply know better than to make certain mistakes, but when they are repeated over and over again, from game to game, and in game 9, vs a poor opponent, that's coaching.
  20. if the recent weeks story is true, then that probably explains why his mechanics were so bad against wisconsin why he was really avoiding contact on some of his throws. it also really points to a staff that should have known better than to rely on his arm and leg as much as they did the past few weeks. if you know a guy won't be 100%, why wouldn't you make other plans which you follow if you see that the guy isn't playing well?
  21. Tommy looked like one of them with the way he played last week. not giving 100% all the time and being being too shy of contact made him off on his footwork many times..
  22. i think its waay too early to talk about stuff like this. i think that before the season started, he really had no idea what he and his staff were involved in. i think they are getting better week to week, and i really believe that they will turn things around. at least to a level that's much better than the last guy. let's just wait till the end of this year. all this is really only hurting the nebraska program in more ways than one. It's actually understandable, really. the nebraska fan base is one that's been hurt too many times in recent history, and that leaves some of us unwilling to be patient. heck, we've been waiting for great football since 1998. but nebraska fans need to remember that it's always darkest just before dawn. i believe we've seen the worst. we just need to give these guys a chance to self correct. and if it truly doesn't work out, with the way they are, it definitely won't be a nasty breakup like the last couple of guys. and that has to count for something. what's going on in lincoln is stuff that will ultimately cause nebraska to be better for it, now or after (if) they leave. but you have to understand that there is a rebuilding that needs to happen. this doesn't excuse the poor decisions, but a bit more patience would be helpful.
  23. The inner circle of this staff is in way over their collective heads. This isn't oregon state, and the sooner they realize that, the better.
