From the offseason Q&A's he answered about the future of Nebraska football, I like Rhule and give him the benefit of the doubt.  He definitely has had the microphone in his face since Day 1 and never said anything wrong.

So having said that, I can see the pressure mounting up on him from the media and crazies that want to win today and now.  Even though he always said it would be a rebuild and that it will take time to get the Huskers back on track and winning every year.

On defense, I see the young players getting PT and rotating in.  On offense, not so much unless it was an injury.  That's a red flag, because it means he is nervous about the offense screwing up and losing games like in years past.  Hopefully as the season goes on, we will see more rotations with the younger guys on offense getting opportunity as we build toward the future and possibly get to a bowl game this season.

Next year though, we need to clean house and do some purging, but also understand we will have new guys at OL, RB, WR, and hopefully QB.

This is who needs to be purged after the year:

    Defense:  Purge these guys -

TyRob, Henrich, Tommie Hill, Sanford, Newsome, Javin Wright.

And unfortunately Reimer will be gone/graduated.

    Offense:  Purge these guys -

Rhamir Johnson - he's done - gave his all

Anthony Grant - he's 24 this year and done next year

Casteneda - he's older too, injury prone; just let him go

    Washington will be gone

    OLinemen - purge them please:

Benhart, Corcoran, Nouili N, Piper and possibly Ben Scott (maybe)

Sims - the experiment that didn't work out

Gabe Irvin - not purged, but limited role as a 3rd string guy; I just don't think his body can handle much more.

Bleekrode - kicker - SR bye

Buschini - punter - can't punt anything other than 26-40 yards.  Terrible

    Billy Kemp - SR bye

    Fleeks - SR bye

A lot of older guys from the Frost system, some transfers that really haven't made a difference, and some guys who have the injury bug.

    And also:

Coach Raiola - purge - after 2 years learning to be a P5 OL coach.

Next season we will have a relative inexperienced O-Line.  The only lineman that Raiola has rotated in this year is Lutovsky, and we are losing 4 guys next year, maybe 5.  Ridiculous.

Next year - Prochaska (if healthy ??), Lutovsky, and who knows if madman Ben Scott will be back.  Just purge the others (Piper, NN, Benhart, Corcoran).

Next year will be real tough for sure.  But we have to purge these guys out across the team, and hopefully the transfer portal will be good to us.

Purge them.  Tell them to move on.  And keep building.

Some of thos names you suggest purging are insanity

Sanders is erratic with his accuracy and that stunted multiple Colorado drives today. Their run game was non-existent for the majority of the game. I expect the majority of our opponents to have better all-around offensive play.

He was FAR from erratic, his inaccuracies were more misran routes or miscommunication. He was very very accurate.

    • If Sims is the prototype, Rhule prioritizes the wrong aspects at QB (i.e., athleticism over being a QB).
    • Our defense showed moxie, but Colorado and especially Minnesota are two of the worst offenses we'll face this year (and Colorado still had several offensive TD's). I can't say we've learned yet that they're very good.
    • There has been no tailoring of the offense to Sims' skillset by Satterfield. Sims is our biggest issue right now, but even when we move on from him, Satterfield will continue to damped the O.

I don't think colorado will be one of the worst offenses we play

    Spot on homie ;)

It's like looking at Nebraska fans and wanting to give them a big ol' group condolence hug (a little sympathy).  Wipe off their football tears and tell them "This year we are going to have 5 or 6 happy Saturdays to celebrate and enjoy"

And then tell them "We are also going to have 5 or 6 Saturdays that will be upsetting.  Don't worry, keep your chin up"

Back in the day you used to vent, yell/holler, air it out, and get it out of your system with a few posts.  Take people to the woodshed if have to.  But move on.

These days people keep going up and down on an extension latter.  They feel so upset and go up and down from week to week.  Trying to add more sad paint on a wall.

One game.  A new coach and staff.  Some returning players mixed with new players.  Road team and underdogs.  Lead by 7 points through 55 minutes of the game.....  and lost.

I have always said that playmakers make plays.  Instead of the threads that say "what is wrong with us", how about crediting the kid on the Minnesota team who slapped the ball out of Grant's arm and created a turnover?  How about on 4th and 10, crediting the kid on the Minnesota team who made a spectacular catch with one toe in?  How about giving credit to the kid on the Minnesota team who read the eyes of the Husker QB and made an interception?  He could have dropped it or had aligator arms, but he made the play.  Which then resulted in them going down the field and kicking a game winning field goal.

It can't always be about "Nebraska sucks again".

My least favorite Nebraska offense of the last 60 years was the Jammal Lord offense of 2002-2003, even if we'd take that W/L record today. This game suggests that we have little choice but to run the same offense this year. That's what makes me most sad. I honestly don't think Gabe Irvin getting 10 of Jeff Sims 19 carries makes a lick of difference.

I did like the halftime adjustments on both sides of the ball -- we suddenly looked like the better team with the better attitude. We've already forgotten, but in the fourth quarter even the announcers thought Nebraska was just 8 minutes away from getting Matt Rhule's first win. We definitely did some right things against a team that by any measure should have been better than us.

But we found a way to lose --- and Nebraska is actually getting famous for that. I guess that's pretty sad, too.

2009 offense was sickening to watch as well lol

I don’t think this class ends up top 25. Not complaining though. He’s a proven coach with a plan.

We are already very close to our total from last years class in the 247 composite scoring and ended up 25 last year. Adding Brix would already put us above last years total team score. I don't see how we don't stay top 25 unless things fall apart.

So, with Tominaga coming back, I think this changes a lot on this team.  We lose Walker and Griesel.  I think we have players that can replace Griesel with Grace, Lawrence, or Lloyd.  The big thing is, can we replace Walker.  Hopefully, Keita can do that.  I think he has the potential.  He just needs to put his whole game together.  Sam Hoiberg is going to be interesting to watch.  He really came on towards the end of the season as a role player and his defense added a spark.  Hopefully, Wilcher is still coming off the bench....every once in a while....when there isn't anyone else.

The team caught some fire at the end of the season when things really started clicking between Walker and Tominaga.  That chemistry was fun to watch. How Fred replaces that is key.

Hopefully Mast and Allick can replace Walker

Disagree.  The rating is based on potential using mechanics, athletic ability, agility & other measurements.  Those are still there.  A lot of these guys are young & buried on the depth chart and don't want to wait or not happy with the coaching staff.
