  1. 4 catches, 148 yards. And left the game early with 58 yards shy of the SEC record for career receiving yards. And I am not gloating, everyone knows a big part of that was on a hail mary. Dennard played him tougher, more physical than any CB I've seen in his 3 years here. Dennard made a believer in me.
  2. Was a good, tough game and that hail mary was so reminiscent of the hail mary against us in the SEC championship last year. Totally changed the complection of the game and I knew as soon as it happened the psyche of Nb team was not going to be the same. Luck? Had little Ace Sanders caught it, it would have been pure luck. But when Alshon does this stuff over and over again you have to give some credit. Jump balls are a big part of his game and he always makes those kids of plays. Still would have been interesting to see how it all works out without it. Also, would have liked to have seen a game without the ejections. At any rate you guys don't know what it means to gamecocks fans. Not just to get 11 wins for the first time ever, but to get the win against an opponent that commands the respect that Nebraksa does regardless of the year. Good luck next year and look forward to a rematch hopefully in a BCS game next year!
  3. Enjoyed the forum, guys. Hope for a good game. Interestingly, I've had to come over here for any discussion on the game since the SC forum I'm on has had almost zero talk about the game. Never seen it like that before and it seems there is a little complacency on the SC fan side. Sometimes that carries over to the team and I'm a little concerned. I guess we'll find out soon enough. Thanks and good luck!
  4. Well said (obvious or not). If they stuff our 1st down runs it hurts us badly. As Lo Country just said, we really, really need some zone-read and/or mis-direction plays to get Tmart some vintage 40+ yd scorching runs. It's the last game Bo....go for it! Auburn had some success doing this against us. They didn't have a lot of yardage, or pts (16) but we couldn't get them off the field in the 4th qtr. They pounded us up the middle over and over and then ran some effective misdirection and end arounds that had us on our heels. For the most part though, over pursuit has not been a problem since they recover so quickly. And don't look for many 40+ runs. This team does not give up that kind of yardage. Usually going to have to put together 12 play drives and stay out of long yardage situations, and I think you will have some success doing that. But redzone scoring may be a problem.
  5. OMG! Dabo is that you? What are you doing? Get back to game planning for that Orange Bowl so we can finally see who the tallest midget is! For those of us that live in recent memory, here's a little recap of SC vs Clemson history over the last couple of years: Football: Owned You! Baseball: Owned You! Basketball: Owned you! Yes, Taters will always be perpetually stuck in 1981. Me? Well, lets just say the present suits me just fine.
  6. I agree with you, and I think from the games against the best D-Lines we have faced this year, we should be encouraged. Vs. MSU, we were told all week that their D-Line was too big, too fast, too good. I don't think it is a stretch to say that we ran over them. Then against PSU, Devon Still really is one of the best DT's in the country, and he was disruptive a couple of times, but overall, we moved the ball very well against a really good PSU D-Line. I'm taking the wait-and -see approach on this one. That does bode well for you. Having extra time to prepare helps too. Our team is dependant on our D-line and if you can handle them you'll be in good shape. The only teams that have had offensive success were teams that could throw the ball very well and protect the qb (usually by scheme). I don't know if NB can do that, though. I really think 17 points by either team will win this one. I think some of your worries about our mobile qb are overstated. Shaw is not of the same mold as the other mobile qbs you've seen. Not even close really. He's fast but not elusive. He's only looking for a window to gain 5-7 quick yards and slide down. Every now and then he'll find daylight for a nice gain but he's not going to create it by himself. And we don't pass protect very well, so no worries about your d-line not getting pressure, that's a push. All in all, I think it will be an offensively challenged game with both teams struggling to break the 10 pt barrier. Whoever does will probably win.
  7. Teams double him. Garcia came out horrid this year and wasted the first 4 games with some of the worst QB play I've ever seen. Shaw isn't the passer that Garcia was and a lot of times he just doesn't even look at Alshon knowing he'll have two defenders all over him. When he does, he sometimes over throws him. You can count on at least 2 balls per game to Alshon that sail completely out of bounds. I watched some film on you guys this week. Your D line doesn't look bad at all. Not a lot of pressure but they clog the middle plenty it seems.
  8. This is Alshon's highlight film from the 2010 Alabama game. This is arguably the best secondary Alshon has ever faced. At the 1:48 mark is one of the more spectacular catches Alshon has made as a Gamecock which he made over Kirkpatrick (a projected top 10 pick in this years draft). You'll notice how Alshon uses his hands and body extremely well to get open and he's a load to bring down. He's not a burner, so most of his catches are made in tight coverage against some of the best DBs in the country.
  9. Dennard may be able to play Alshon tough, but the point is I don't think he'll need to do it by himself. Bracketing, cheating or playing double really won't hurt you too much so the risk/reward favors covering him up. Alshon's not going to take a game over, but if he's in single coverage they WILL throw it to him and even if he only catches one or two they usually are big plays. If he's in coverage with help we won't even try him. So most teams just go ahead and take him out of the equation and make us earn it running the ball.
  10. Arky rolled Wilson out the whole game and mostly took our Dline out of play. I suspect we'll see a lot of that in your game plan which will probably be very effective considering your qbs wheels. If he's got daylight he can run or if someone comes open he'll have time to drop it off.
  11. Hey guys, loving this board. True class. I just came over to scout but can't help but put my two cents in. First of all, I haven't seen Nebraska play but maybe once early in the season so everything I know about NU is coming from reading these posts. As far as stopping SC offense, it really comes down to getting penetration up the middle and creating disruption with your DTs. Teams that have stout DTs make us look really bad because it screws the zone read to hell. Blitzing won't be effective because SS will spread out 5 wide if you start doing that and will hit you with WR screens and take his 7 yards all day. If you can sit back in a base defense and get penetration up the middle with your DTs you'll make us look really bad (which has happened a few times). I know there has been some debate about not having to double #1 Alshon Jeffery, but it would be silly not to since there is no real threat from the other WRs. Which is why EVERYONE does. I don't care who's covering him, the guy has unbelievable ball skills and is a beast of a man. He's going to catch it in 1on1 more times than not just due to his shear size and athletic ability. At a minimum you'll cheat a safety over to help and it won't hurt you much. As for the SC D, if your guys are not able to protect your QB its going to be really tough to do much offensively. NU may not be a passing team, but if you let SC completely take that part of the game away with their front 4 (which they are capable of and want to do) it will be very difficult to consistently run it. That's how you beat SC by giving the QB time to sit back and hit a few passes as needed. That really frustrates our defense and keeps the LBs honest. So, in short. If your DTs are stout and can be disruptive you'll probably keep us under 14 pts. And, if you can buy your qb enough time to hit a few passes you'll be able to run the ball more effectively, eventually wear us down and score some points. So, how are your DTs and your pass protection? Looking forward to the chat over the next few weeks and hope its a great game!
