Wow, I thought Minnesota had bad fans.
Based on last night's performance, I'd say Rhule is building a team that will be physical, detail oriented, and play at an accelerated pace. And if he can get the personnel, that will be a winning combination.
Put the brakes on the loser bandwagon. Your new coach, in his first game with an under-construction roster, playing new schemes, against a pretty good Big Ten team, on the road...almost won.

Dang right, you're about 8% of the way to accomplishing my hope.

This is correct!

Hey folks, I'm not the most active poster on this board, being a rabid Gophers fan and all. But some of you will have seen that I said that I hope the Huskers finish 11-1 this year. I really mean it, I'd like to see your team succeed. After all, though I consider Nebraska a rival, your team isn't a hated rival. The nicest outcome I can think of in the Big Ten West would be for Minnesota to finish first and Nebraska to come in second with defeats of Wiscy and the Ioways on the ledger.
So good luck, all. And don't forget why Iowa plays on artificial turf...

It's a beautiful facility and a fanbase that does it justice. I hope the Huskers enjoy an 11-1 season in 2023.

I kind of like him...but he has totally convinced that fa base that he is amazing. I think he is brilliant. He can avg 7 wins a year (which is where he is at) and has finished ranked once...and the fans there think he is TO.
No, we sure don't.

As a Gophers fan, Gosh I hate this old line. Bernie Bierman won five national championships at Minnesota, and Murray Warmath won another. Glen Mason turned around a losing program. And Henry Williams won 136 games in 22 years, at a time when college teams regularly played fewer than 8 games a year.
PJ Fleck is having a decent run, you know, having taken over a team that was winning under the previous two head coaches, but winning more games in an era when they play 50% more games per season doesn't make him the best coach we ever had.

If I were a Husker fan, I would probably be satisfied but underwhelmed by this hire. If that's how you feel, I got you.
Good luck, NU. I look forward to your team being a great rival and frequent second-place finisher in the West division.

Yes it did, and yes I am.

Really looking forward to this game. A win against Nebraska always look good on the resume, even in the 21st century.

Staggering is a good word. Astonishing is another. This is incredible money.

I'm excited that we have an OC with a lot of experience with play calling and coaching QBs.
Like others have speculated, I don't think the scheme is going to be a wholesale change. Whipple will bring his wrinkles though.
Wrinkly D!(k Whipple?

We see more when we play you guys in your own stadium.
I would probably lash out too, if I were you. Don't feel bad.
On the other hand, go ahead and feel bad.

You will never see so many Husker fans in Minnesota as there are today. Just wanted you all to know that we're pulling for you.

I am too. That's very nice of you. I'm excited to watch your 24-14 loss next weekend to Wisconsin.
Ouch! but I can't argue.
I still believe in Scott Frost. We might have reached the point where only non-Husker fans still believe he can win there.

We do not play to win here…we play to keep games close and lose by one score…if you want a win, beat Wisconsin yourselves next week and stop asking us for the impossible.
can you imagine the nerve on this guy expecting us to beat a ranked opponent? Jeez…the nerve…what next? He will expect our special teams to make a field goal or return a punt for a TD…where does it end?
I am really looking forward to watching your 20-17 loss to the Ioways next weekend.- 1

This Minnesota Gopher fan wasn't happy when NU hired Scott Frost. I still think if you give him enough time, Frost will eventually turn the corner like Frank Beamer did at Virginia Tech. I think you guys could be happy with Beamer's post-1993 results. But it isn't easy to patient, is it?

On a personal level I don't like Fleck. If he was my neighbor I think I would egg his car. People who want to demonstrate their emotions and be validated all the time drive me up a wall. But it's hard to argue with on-the-field results. With the Gophers' soft remaining schedule, Minnesota should expect to finish 4-2 the rest of the way, making an 8-4 season. I'm chalking up Iowa and Wisconsin as losses, since Fleck never beats genuine rivals. But if the team performs against either of its two most bitter rivals, Minnesota could finish 5-1.
Maryland at home WIN
at Northwestern WIN
Illinois at home WIN
At Iowa LOSE
at Indiana WIN
Wisconsin at home LOSE

Jerry Kill was hired to get Minny to a bowl game and be respectable. He wasn't ever going to be a long-term coach because of his documented health issues.
PJ was brought in to build on Jerry's success. So far...meh. But as long as Minny is bowling, it's better than their past few decades.Gophers fan here.
I'll tell you right now, this was never the case. This is revisionist history.
Jerry Kill was a heck of a coach, and the school (and fans) wanted him to stay in the job for the next 20+ years. Unfortunately, the fans didn't know about his epilepsy and the school didn't know how badly his epilepsy was going to be aggravated by the stress of major college job. But if Kill had been able to stay in the job, it probably goes without saying that we would have enjoyed more success from 2016 to now than we have.
Fleck might have a higher ceiling than Kill, but we'll never know for sure. Kill will always be a 'what might have been.'

This is true, and very frustrating since we always play you late in the year. How has Potts been doing with Ibrahim out? I see he's getting his yards, but there was a massive drop off when Ibrahim was out against OSU - which is to be expected, Ibrahim is a stud. But he was by far the scariest guy on the team, and if Potts is only decent instead of very good that makes life tougher for Morgan.
Trey Potts ran for 34 yards on 10 carries against OSU after Ibrahim's injury, then 178 on 34 carries against Miami-Ohio and 121 on 26 carries against Colorado. He's been good in emergency service, though we'd all rather see Ibrahim starting.
As good as Potts has been, Ibrahim had already gone for 163 yards and 2 TDs on 30 carries before getting hurt against the Bugeyes. He's still contributing, though - acting as a coach in practice and at games. Fleck is only half-joking when he says that he's already offered Ibrahim a spot on the staff when he graduates.

The Gophers under Fleck seem to start the season weak and get stronger. They have improved during the season each year that the Fleckster has been in charge.

Ohio State gets no real test of how good they are until 10/23 & 10/30 when they play Indiana & Penn State, respectively.
No further test, you mean? Because they have played a conference team and a ranked opponent already.
How did the refs miss the offsides on the Gophers' scoring play ?

The game was officiated horribly, and both teams got a lot of bad breaks. As one fan pointed out, Nebraska got away with obvious pass interference and roughing the passer on the same play near the end of the game. There were a lot of missed calls and bad calls, and they went both ways.
It may not be much consolation, but the incompetent officiating evens out, it really does.
