  1. I could care less about a theater program getting cut. The drama…

“The high-priced Memorial Stadium renovation was given preliminary approval this fall, even as the four-campus University of Nebraska system faces a $58 million budget shortfall that threatens to cut staff and academic programs. That includes deep cuts at the University of Nebraska at Kearney, where students and staff have protested the school's announced elimination of its geography and theater programs, as well as cuts to other humanities offerings and its cybersecurity program.”

I hear you. Couple things though.

I imagine "total plays per game" ranks towards the bottom of FBS either way with how we run the play clock down on every damn play and then also had so many drives get killed with turnovers. So you combine that with not having a QB who can even remotely reliably throw the ball until game 11, and yeah, not surprising that's where we ranked.

Sometimes we asked our QB to run the ball on third down when 1st down was a pathetically executed "stand in the pocket and scan the field on slow-developing routes" plays that resulted in incompletions or sacks. I noticed this happening a lot. I guess we'd file this under 'play calling.' So it's not abandoning the run, but it's situationally bad.

They are consistent at it. I’d say it’s their identity but some here get ruffled up about labeling what NU does.

TO’s killed any chance of reaching goals/expectations. Sadly for NU, it hasn’t just been this one season… How do you fix it?

I think continued S/C, coaching ball security, and scheming to minimize dumb mistakes (not running routes next to each other…) would be a starting point.

It’s year 1. Your going to make your offense fit the pieces it has. What exactly are the bright ideas apparently so many people have that would’ve turned around the offense led by Sims/Haarberg? We don’t average 20 passes a game because we don’t have a need to pass. I don’t know how anyone can think they can accurately judge Sat with the qb play we’ve seen this year.

Look at past performances. Next year will be year one (again) because Satts didn’t start to build towards the system he wants to run? Ok.

Can you really shoot for an "identity" with a patchwork of young kids and missing a QB and 8-10 projected starters..??  asking for a friend...

So your plan is to try not to put any foundational pieces down until you get the talent? How does that work in recruiting? I think you start working toward your identity like the defense did this year. Start putting your stamp on the team. Once you get the players, you’ll learn Shatterfield sucks like he has everywhere else. It would be nice to know what the staff wants to be in 3 years other than turnover free.

I'm all N on Luke.  Sounds like the type of QB NU would face that went all Heisman on us in the past......Maybe we get lucky and some complete unknown, traveling only because of injuries comes out and can actually sling the rock.  catching the DC completely by surprise.  Wisky comes out with 11 in the box, we open in 0 personnel and Luke "longball" Longval drops dimes all game long.....Kidding, not kidding.

Me 2. Give him a shot to throw a pick, fumble, and not know the play. :dunno Can’t be worse than Simms…right?

  8. I want the message from the head coach to be what the team is trying to accomplish. Don’t tell me you want a strong run game in the 4th quarter, but then try the happy, slappy cotton candy pass BS from the 5. Pick an identity. Be aware of the clock and the score. Use some imagination and at least try to set up the opponent during the game instead of running the same play all game. I’m still ticked they lost against Maryland.

Does Satterfield make some bad play calls yes. It is also hard to judge what he can really do cause we have no QBs and they turn the ball over so much. Not saying he is good, but they have had some really bad luck with injuries on offense. 2 of our top 3 rbs got hurt. Washington out and Kemp has been out at times as well. Is the offensive line great? No. But they have shown signs of improvement especially in the run game. Still a lot of work to do but hopefully they can add a couple guys to get better on the line going forward. If we had an average QB they would be at least 7-3 right now. Just need a QB that can pass the ball to our guys and scramble to get yards when needed.

Yes, Shatterfield makes horrible play calls.

I find it sadistically comical that frosty could move the ball but couldn’t play defense. And now we can’t move the ball but we can play defense…..

what if Rhule brought in frosty for OC… lol

    …. kidding………. :snacks:

They would have still thrown on the goal line. :D
