The return to Standard Time should be on November 1, the day after Halloween. That way everyone gets an extra hour of sleep after the long night of trick-or-treating.

Brisket smoking advice?
I’ve only smoked a couple briskets before. They turned pretty good but, after watching some YouTube vids, thinking about doing a couple things different. 1- I’ve always done them fat cap up but going to do this one fat side down. 2- I’ve wrapped in foil but this time going to use pink butcher paper and pour some smoked wagyu beef tallow on the meat side as I wrap it. Any comments? @BigRedBuster?

Only done it 3 times. I've always done fat side down because that's what the online recipes told me, but intuitively I always thought fat up made more sense. I'd interested in hearing how your results vary. What kind of difference is butcher paper supposed to make? I've only used foil out of convenience.
For a rub, I use generous amounts of salt, pepper, and paprika, with a little bit of chili powder.
I wrap at 165 and pull it off to rest when it hits 195. I've never had the patience to wait until it gets to 205 anyway, as the cook time always goes longer than expected.

Has anyone ever caught a hot dog from Der Viener Schlinger?
-
When I was in the marching band back in the day, the guy would occasionally shoot a hot dog at us. I never caught one, but folks very near me did. However, once when a friend of mine caught one right next to me and started eating it, I was suddenly disgusted and unnerved at the thought of eating a free tube steak shot out of a cannon.

Just your annual reminder that Die Hard is not, and will never be, a Christmas movie.

I just learned they call Cam Jurgens "Beef Jurgy" and that may be the best thing I've heard all week.

The way these girls have been treated in Bennington needs to stop! https://www.ketv.com/article/bennington-parents-file-title-ix-lawsuit-against-bps-district-demanding-equal-treatment-for-athletes/35774424#

I wonder how much other background there is where (but am not curious enough to look it up further). These sorts of lawsuits usually only come about because multiple prior complaints were not addressed, so if that is the case, big F**k up by the school to not get this under control before it turned into a lawsuit. Now is there more to it than just weight room times and uniforms? There is nothing inherently discriminatory about 6am lifting times vs 8am lifting times, it would depend on how they made the decision, what everyone's preferences were, and who was involved in the decision. I can see the uniform issue being a sore spot, but that in itself seems like a minor issue at a small school - does that deserve a major lawsuit? It is also interesting that the families are using a Title IX attorney from Tennessee. This guy files T9 lawsuits all over the country. Lots of them. Something about that doesn't quite sit well with me, but I can't quite articulate why (doesn't mean it is not legit, but maybe it seems like the publicity is more important than the outcome).

I've never really paid attention to Tom Brady. AFC guy, nothing to do with the NFC North, good but kind of "whatever."
But as a totally disinterested football fan, I have to admit that dude is an all-time legend, and perhaps the best QB in NFL history.
Really hard to argue against that, no matter how you feel about him.
-
I feel like an old man with the back pains and the gray hairs on my chin...but Brady is even older than me and still doing this. For years, I resisted the notion that Brady was the best of all time but finally came around after the big comeback against the Falcons. He was super odl for NFL standards back then, but he still keeps f#&%ing doing it.

Would you take a vacation out of the country within the next 3 months?

Canned meat, while obviously not the ideal offering, do you consume it?

I went to the CWS when Nebraska was in it (I think it was 2001). After NU was eliminated, I stuck around for the next game when the crowd thinned out. Was at the very top row when a home run ball came right for me, but I couldn't get my eyes on it. It bounced off my water bottle and careened into the parking lot. When they showed the replay on the big screen, the whole stadium booed me for not catching it, and apparently Harold Reynolds was on ESPN talking $h!t about me. A friend called me on the phone and said I was on TV right now, so I waved at the camera. Harold Reynolds then sent an autographed baseball and a new bottle of water up to me, delivered by an ESPN crew. I always thought that was a cool story, until Reynolds was fired for sexual harassment a few years later.

Your first sports memory, about yourself.
Mine...Tee-Ball. Never played before but my mom wanted to be able to "see me" so she told me to play first base...so I asked the coach and ended up playing first base (and catcher, because I sucked) forever.
-
Tee-ball for me as well. I didn't understand the game, and the coach never explained anything that I was able to grasp at that age. I always thought the kid playing between 2nd and 3rd had a nickname of "short stuff." The first game, I told my dad I didn't want to play, so he took me home all pissed off and we never ever talked about it again.

Do you guys remember 2001 when one of the biggest controversies in college football was Eric Crouch's ham sandwich? Man, I miss those simpler times.

Anybody go out looking for the comet?
-
It is just below the bowl of the big dipper, right now a little to the right of it (east). I saw it Monday night through binoculars but was still kind of faint (wasn't willing to stay up later to get really dark). I tried looking last night with my kids, but it was too cloudy where I live. Will try again tonight. I remember the comet back in 1997, it was probably the coolest thing I have ever seen in the sky.

The worst advertisements on network TV. Go.
And I'm talking about known, reputable brands. Not some low quality little known product nobody's even heard of.

Why does Ford choose the least friendly design in every capacity when it comes to automotive maintenance in the f150? Good lord.

Is Chili & Cinnamon Rolls Nebraska's "signature dish?"
-
@Danny Bateman Skyline Chili uses cinnamon and cumin. And it is an abomination.
But I f#&%ing love Runzas. It is a mandatory stop every time we are back in Nebraska. I compare Nebraska's Runza's to Ohio's chili. Beloved by native locals, but gross to everyone else.
