    Manziel

I wonder what 8 weeks of SEC defenses would do to Justin Bieber. That would be fun to watch. I totally predict a miserable season for Manziel as well.
  2. I finally got around to reading the article in the OP. Very interesting. One interesting tidbit of info that I recall from my criminal justice 101 professor back in the 90s was that he said if he ran the prison system, one of the first things he would do would be to hire nutritionists and even use chelation therapy to start eliminating heavy metals from prisoners' bodies as that crap has such a harmful effect on the brain and can influence criminal thinking. I think chelation therapy has mostly been dismissed as bunk, but if the data in this article is true, my professor was on the right track. I'd never heard that same argument made until now.
  3. I have tons of clients who, despite having multiple kids and little money, always seem to have time to party with a never-ending network of friends, so it certainly is possible. Of course, I work in child protective services, and those folks' kids are now in my care and custody...
  4. At least we were able to make it 18 years without anyone smack talking Nebraska though, right?
  5. I don't know if we'll actually be any better this year, but I predict 11 wins anyway. I'd be shocked with anything fewer than 10 wins, and a 12-0 regular season wouldn't surprise me either. But either way, I see another blowout in the CCG if Ohio State keeps rolling. Perhaps the team can jell enough to prevent the championship blowout, and maybe 11 wins will get us to a BCS bowl. Maybe the peices will be there to get that bowl win. I predict a final record of 12-2, with a CCG loss and a bowl win. People will still grumble about the championship drought and a blowout loss, but it will be very nice for Pelini to get over that 10-win hump and into a BCS bowl.
  6. Finally! It's so nice to see that they brought this back. Help me out Knapp or someone who might know... isn't the last time it said "Tom Osborne Field" was during Solich's first season in 1998? Either way that has to become a permanent fixture for Nebraska's fields going forward. According to Huskers.com, it was only on there for that one year. Then Osborne had it taken off so as not to overshadow Solich. Yep, that was the last year we had the old astroturf, too. After Osborne retired, they quickly named the field in honor of him, but there was some controversy over whether or not naming the field would overshadow the name of the stadium. Not only was Osborne too humble to be comfortable with his name on the field, but he wanted to make sure everyone still referred to the place as Memorial Stadium in honor of fallen soldiers. So it was on there only for the 1998 season, and in 1999, we got the first Field Turf, and they never put "Tom Osborne Field" back on it until now.
  7. How is Stanford's fanbase reacting? Are they elated that they were able to steal a Nebraska kid right out of NU's back yard? Are they underwhelmed that they made a big push for a Nebraska kid that NU itself wasn't even sure about wanting? Does Stanford even have a fanbase?
  8. Come on guys, Kirk Ferentz is still on his first head coaching job in Div 1, he just needs more time. After all, it took Osborne 20 years to win his first national title. It's way too early to judge Ferentz's coaching performance.
  9. So I just found out that my neighbor collects frozen cow embryos and bull semen as a hobby. He's not a farmer or biologist or anything like that, he just is really fascinated by cattle and has a rare collection of genetic material. He's a really nice guy and a great neighbor and family man, but I am amazed at this hobby. The thing is, it doesn't creep me out or anything, it just makes me think that perhaps I am not as interesting as I thought I was.
  10. I'm a born and raised die hard Nebraska fan and alum, but if my son had a full ride to Stanford on the table, I'd be very proud to send him west.
  11. Where did you find this? I borrowed it from another forum I waste time reading. A site dedicated to weightlifting but has a subforum for miscellaneous BS similar to this one. http://tnation.t-nation.com/free_online_forum/music_movies_girls_life/demotivational_posters_random_pics_110
  12. Iowa fans seem to cling to their Orange Bowl victory just like Colorado fans cling to a single game in 2001 (which I only vaguely remember): you can't have a conversation about quality football without them bringing up that one game as if it defined their program for all time. Man, those guys need to get out of the past! Now excuse me, I'm gonna resume looking up highlights of 1995.
  13. Well, since DUI is a crime, and he was already on probation for a rather serious criminal issue, this clearly demonstrates "a criminality" on Fonzie's part. I dunno. By that standard a healthy percentage of American males are criminals. Probably a handful of posters here on HB have one or more DUIs. I don't want to label everyone a criminal menace of course. But DUI is a crime. It's criminal behavior and results in a criminal record. I agree that we should not simply call someone a criminal just because of that alone. Unfortunately just about everyone has driven after having a few drinks at some point. But how many crimes need to go on the record before we do call someone a criminal? Someone with a single DUI? Maybe not. Someone who assaulted a frickin' cop and then while still on probation gets nabbed for DUI and refuses the test? Dennard was one of my favorite players, but sadly, someone who can't stay out of criminal trouble has earned himself the label of criminal. I do beleive in redemption, so hopefully Fonzie can shed this label, just like someone who has a single DUI in their youth does not deserve to be known as a criminal for life, but for now, this is Fonzie's public perception.
  14. Tell you what, if Bo never wins a championship but still churns out 10 or even 9 wins every single year, there is no way he'll get fired. Ever. Sure, fans are going to grumble and yearn for the good ol days, and the pressure of winning a championship will only increase, but to think his seat will get hot if he dares to lose three games is just silly.
  15. Well, since DUI is a crime, and he was already on probation for a rather serious criminal issue, this clearly demonstrates "a criminality" on Fonzie's part.
  16. I think having a 3rd string walk-on QB kneel on the 1 to run out the clock was more of a kick to Florida's balls than if we had actually scored again. It was beautiful.
  17. NU being on the forefront of stuff like this is one of the things that makes me proud of the University and the program. Go Big Red.
  18. Didn't Pelini build much of his reputation based on his ability to call a blitz at the right place and time? I don't know much about defensive scheming, but it seemed like in 2003 at NU and 2007 with LSU, the blitzing was more aggressive. I recall the TV announcers talking about "Pelini dialing up another blitz" and it would usually work. Even in 2008 when he was still trying to patch things together, the Clemson game was essentially saved at the end by a couple of bold DB blitzes. If it is a matter of having the right talent to make it worth the risk of blitzing more often, I hope we are finally there this year and can see more of it. Even though we haven't seen much blitzing the last couple of years, Pelini is damn good at calling them when the time is right.
  19. I heard that Bo Pelini broke a beer bottle over some old lady's head at the Football 202 seminar, which is why there is a lawsuit, even though she signed a waiver.
  20. As if anyone would need extra incentive to throw a beer bottle a Lil Red. Thing's a menace, what with his sh!t-eating grin and constant jitteryness.
  21. Makovicka and Zatechka were cool last names. One of my favorites though was Monte Christo.
  22. Maybe I don't understand the proper definition of "blind-side." Kenny Bell's block was a perfect shoulder square to the chest; it just so happened that the recipient was built like a flourescent light bulb. Was the fact that Glass Joe's head was turned the only thing that made it a blind-side hit? If so, does this rule imply that you can't be blocked unless you are actually looking at the guy who is coming to get you?
