  1. That is good to hear. McWilson and Love were the 2 that I feared most of losing. So this is much better news.
  2. we've been on the positive end of most of it this year though. looking good so far. dan was a kick in the nuts - but nothing like losing out on Peat or Owa. we've got some momentum going right now. last year a full 1/3 of the class was taken within 2 weeks of signing day. We've signed 8 since around the 1st. I wish we could figure out how to close on this many kids in June/July/August. I think it is just a matter of time that becomes the norm. We had more early commits this year than last. The staff understands that Ohio St, Michigan, and Penn St as well as other SEC and PAC 12 schools are going after it hard and they will need to do the same to keep pace. With that said, it has paid off for them in some regards to be a little patient. Taylor was committed elsewhere and Newby was under the radar so sometimes that pans out.
  3. I am not so sure that I see Gerry in the mix that early. As good of an athlete he is, he is going to need a year or 2 to adjust to the level of competition he is practicing and playing with. He was the best athlete at his school and arguably in his state, but so was practically everyone else at his position on the team. I hope I'm wrong of course and he tears it up.
  4. I really don't understand this. As I mentioned before, he is one of our longest standing commits and Kentucky comes in and can steal him away without an official visit? Something doesn't smell right. If he was concerned about distance from home, wouldn't he look at Ohio St?
  5. Brandon Rigoni. That guy made a lot of great tackles. Usually goes unnoticed.
  6. That settles it then. He has to play here now.
  7. I agree. I doubt the coaches thought Taylor was going to be the starting QB as a RSFr. but he put in the work to get it done. I would give him a shot.
  8. Having said what I just said, I would like to see him here. I like his height for a DB and he appears to be very physical. He and Gerry look like they could do some damage in a few years.
  9. I hear this statement a lot about hips. I am kind of new at looking at game film but from the distance these games are being recorded, I am not sure if you can tell this or not. I would think you would need closer footage or some kind of combine tape, wouldn't you? I am not disagreeing with your assessment so much as I am not sure how you can make this determination from 100 yards away.
  10. He has been one of our longest commits and Kentucky of all places comes in in one weekend and flips him? Hard to believe but it is what it is. Coaches need to close on some more defensive players. I love what has happend for the O but the D is lacking already and if he does in fact leave, it is going to be weaker.
  11. No, winning is not everything. It helps, but it isn't a slam dunk. I would agree. There are some schools that are not so high in the winning department in the Scout top 25
  12. Maybe the coaches asked him just how serious he was due to us going after Carter and then realized that he was not that serious.
  13. Maybe this should get moved to another thread? I mean, we are going at length about Cotton and this is Newby's thread.
  14. Yeah build depth especially with MLB will Compton leaving I get the sarcasm but there is not a ton of playing time from returning LB's. And while we look good on paper, I would liek to have as many options as possible at this position.
  15. i was just guessing i dont have anything to back it up i was just throeing a idea out there Nothing would surprise me when it comes to recruiting. Having high profile recruits like Moore and Klachko transfer could raise some eyebrows. The other side of the coin is that coaches do not go into depth as to why the player is gone so all we ever hear is the side of the player or any rumor/inuendo that comes around. For Moore, Bo did not come out and say something like, "He did not want to work hard." For Klatchko, Bo did not come out and say anything about the nature of rules violations. So I think if a recruit looks at some attrition and take it with a grain of salt, then maybe that kid is better off somewhere else.
  16. I hope NU is a real consideration for him. Regardless if we even had the #1 LB class right now, some players do not pan out or get injured, homesick, etc. You gotta have a stocked cupboard so we do not have depth issues.
  17. Are you sure he fits into that mind frame? He seems to love the SEC. Tongue in cheek
  18. Jerry Blackwell- thanks Dad! That's right. Big Boss Man was Cobb County, GA. My mind is slipping in my old age.
  19. FWIW Michigan has the #1 OL class Ya, Dan Samuelson has his work cut out for him. I just don't understand the move on his part, but if he wants too be closer too home than it is hard too blame him.... I imagine the staff will get some late pickups, but it is hard to understand why the staff has had so much trouble recruiting Olinemen this year, given our success in the past of recruiting them (even if they havent panned out).... maybe the reason nebraska's having trouble recruiting Olinemen is because of the ones that havent panned out, every other coach that is talking to the recruits nebraska is trying to get probably tells them how we started 3 former walk ons on the offensive line this year while a bunch of scholarship guys ride the bench while others have transferred And yet what was our ranking in rushing offense?
  20. It would be cool to get 1 or 2 to commit to start off next years class strong.
  21. I am going back a few years but wasn't this the place The Big Boss Man from WWF/E fame was from? Maybe nobody cares but the name is one you don't usually forget.
  22. No! They are working on a recruit for the next class. What? Please explain..... Kid named Darlington from Florida I believe. I think it is in the 2014 recruit area.
