Not to worried that Nebraska won't be able to gain a wr somewhere down the line.  There will be guys jumping into the portal after the bowl season and with Raiola here now it definitely will help with our chances

Does it really though? Listen, I’m excited for Raiola, but he hasn’t played a snap in college yet. Plenty of other teams have highly rated QBs. What’s the difference between Nebraska and any of those other teams, or teams that have a QB that’s shown to be competent in CFB?

I noticed that too but left it off my comment.

His uncle coaches the same; one of our recently weaker units.  Extended one year in contract.

Exciting for the program but that line had better protect the kid...

Oline was better than last year. I personally feel a lot of people judge him based on year 1 under Frost. With the way Frost ran the program IDK how anyone can judge a guy coaching under him.

Nebraska has placed a few NFL QB's.   Jerry Tagge, Vince Farragamo (sp?), Dave Humm.....maybe others that i can't recall right now.   Brook Berringer was also on a lot of draft boards before that plane crash.  to say it never happened in Nebraskas history is just wrong

We’ve never sent a true sophomore QB. All those guys except Berringer are old enough to be Raiola’s grandpa.

No think about it. When Nebraska first talked to him(McCord) Raiola was not in the picture.  Then while being on his visit news broke about Raiola that afternoon.  You have to think that Raiola hit Rhule up and said I plan on visiting over the weekend plus I have really have strong interest to join the team, and he said things didn't go as planned at Georgia  like I planned.  So then after they talked while McCord was still here at the end when McCord and Rhule talked he wanted a guarantee that he would be starting next year and knowing Matt Rhule he said I love to have you but we got the number 1 highschool qb coming in and it's anybody's to lose.  So McCord had to not like that answer and news broke he wasn't going to  commit to us after that.  Thanks for the nice visit to the campus but no thanks on the qb situation.

You think Raiola hit Rhule with a ‘Hey you up?’ after several months like some sort of ex gf?

He shouldn't have to compete.  He is a starter and shouldn't have to sit his last year in college.  Any school that he chooses to play at should guarantee him the starting role.  Most schools that bring in transfer qb's guarantee them that role obviously Nebraska is didn't and has to be loyal to the kids they have on their roster or else we has fans lose our s***t.  All I know is McCord isn't a scrub qb.

Coaches will probably say they plan to have him start but everybody still has to compete.

I wonder if Dylan hasn't deep down felt like Nebraska was "home" during this entire progress, but OSU and UGA were better programs so he listened to some of the people around him pushing him to go to those other places, and eventually he just had an open conversation with those important to him and told them how at heart he wanted to be a Cornhusker like his dad and uncle.

This. Plus all the drama surrounding Frost and him being gone and Rhule really feeling like a players coach. Georgia’s #2 QB just transferred. I think it would’ve been unlikely Raiola start as a true freshman anyway and with potential future competition leaving, it seems unlikely to me this was about Beck coming back.

Ward wasn't asked to be the whole offense at Washington State.  While his 11 fumbles are alarming his overall stats are good while McCord isn't a runner and more of a pocket passer.  It just really depends on what route HC Matt Rhule wants to go.  Having a dual threat qb or having a drop back passer.  Just your own personal preference.

Ward averaged 40.4 passes and 10 rushes per game. He was their offense.

I think it really depends on how the qb is getting used.  At Kansas State Adrian wasn't asked to be the whole offense like he was asked at Nebraska.

Which is exactly my point in the Ward v McCord debate. And the reason Martinez didn’t have to carry the offense there was because they have a good oline.

He split duties with Howard.  Your stats don't tell the whole story only partial.

They didn’t split duties. Martinez got hurt and then lost the job. Howard only played in 7 of the 14 games. Those are per attempt stats not per game stats so they aren’t partial. He only played 7 games in 2020. Is it really that hard to say K-State has a good oline?

Well this site claims that he had the same number of fumbles as HH (11) and lost 7 of them.

    I'm really not interested.

On the flip side, McCord isn't even on the list so he must have had fewer than 3.

    I'm interested.

You’re comparing a guy on one of the least talented rosters in the pac vs a guy on one of the most talented rosters in all of college football. Martinez only had 2 turnovers at K-State because they have a great oline.

I hear you. Couple things though.

I imagine "total plays per game" ranks towards the bottom of FBS either way with how we run the play clock down on every damn play and then also had so many drives get killed with turnovers. So you combine that with not having a QB who can even remotely reliably throw the ball until game 11, and yeah, not surprising that's where we ranked.

Sometimes we asked our QB to run the ball on third down when 1st down was a pathetically executed "stand in the pocket and scan the field on slow-developing routes" plays that resulted in incompletions or sacks. I noticed this happening a lot. I guess we'd file this under 'play calling.' So it's not abandoning the run, but it's situationally bad.

You’re not taking into consideration what the defense is doing. Stacked boxes. We ran tons of quick routes. Problem is, HH consistently misses high over the middle on them. Easy turnover. There’s a reason he was catching passes instead of throwing them at the beginning of the season.

    Yeah.

I don't know if there are stats for what percentage of 3rd downs were yardages of less than 5. So somebody can disagree with this if just the eye ball test I'm going off of is inaccurate. But one thing I maybe should have added to my list of negatives was being in 3rd & long what seemed like a lot.

The QB scrambles tend to increase the yards per carry stat. There's nothing wrong with this.

But you also have to run the ball well on 1st & 2nd down. Sometimes Satterfield would go away from the run after picking up the first - I definitely have an issue with that. I think it played some kind of role in setting up 3rd & longs because Haarberg couldn't handle a lot of those types of called passing plays. I think this is a legitimate gripe.

128th in passing attempts per game. We did not abandon the run.

For me, personally, the issue is he is the QB coach.  He's been dealt a crappy hand with the TO's following Sims, HH getting bit by the same bug and injuries.  But even with the TO's still had them throwing downfield to open DB's like punters shagging a punt.  They never improved in any of that.  The first 2 series last night were great.  And then Wisky adjusted after the 1st and we got 3 points in the remaining 3 quarters.  Once he gets behind the sticks, he doesn't seem to know what to do.  The option play has been bad with HH and Chubba.  I am a fan of it, but not the way we "try" to run it.

With the O struggling Satt is an easy target.  But at the end of the day he is the OC and the O is struggling.

HH wasn’t ‘bit by a bug’. That’s who he is. I’m not a QB coach but I still know missing high over the middle is a mortal sin.

3 of the 5 times we ended up punting there was a dead ball foul that created long distance downs. Was it that Wisky adjusted or that our penalties made 3rd down less manageable? We missed a 42 yard fg and failed to convert on 4th and 1 on Wisky’s 33.

So your plan is to try not to put any foundational pieces down until you get the talent? How does that work in recruiting? I think you start working toward your identity like the defense did this year. Start putting your stamp on the team. Once you get the players, you’ll learn Shatterfield sucks like he has everywhere else. It would be nice to know what the staff wants to be in 3 years other than turnover free.

It’s year 1. Your going to make your offense fit the pieces it has. What exactly are the bright ideas apparently so many people have that would’ve turned around the offense led by Sims/Haarberg? We don’t average 20 passes a game because we don’t have a need to pass. I don’t know how anyone can think they can accurately judge Sat with the qb play we’ve seen this year.

The first play of OT was a horrible call. Option wasn't working all night.

Purdy needed to get vertical there. Allowed the defender to stretch the play out. Gets vertical and he probably gets 3-4 yards. That’s fine when you’re in 4 down territory. The bigger issue was the false start.
