  1. Kid is fast and will only get better. Would be a very nice get. Sounds like his mom is high on KU and him staying close to home. None the less he s someone we need to continue working hard. The lack of success by KU has to be souring some of these Kansas kids on KU you would think?
  2. Newell is a must get in the fact someone of his size and speed that local needs to be had by the Huskers. Sure there is KU and KSU in-state but this is a kid in NE Kansas not far from Lincoln. Heard he grew up more of a KU fan but doesn't seem to be intrigued by their shortcomings right now. Oklahoma State is the real threat!
  3. Regardless how one feels about Bo currently that article des make one feel slightly better. Or at least it gives one a little hope. Hopefully we end up around 9 wins on the season with momentum entering next year. Next years schedule is pretty darn easy in many ways... 10 wins at least is expected. If Bo can weather this storm, humble himself and figure a way to improve his scheme (or change it), then he stands a good chance to succeed long term at Nebraska. As for what K-State is doing... Bo Pelini and his staff isn't Bill Snyder and his heavily experienced staff. Wish Bo would follow many of the same football philosophies of Snyder though.
  4. I agree with what True to the Red...... Always said. Bo can win back my complete support once he and his staff show they know what they are doing. If it is the players complete fault, then it goes back onto you for not recruiting well enough period. I don't buy the talent issue bit because I know we have more talent than Kansas State... they are doing 100% just fine! He also needs to wake up and change his freaking attitude!!! It stinks and has for years... he hasn't been a good representive of Nebraska more times than not with his anger issues.
  5. Doesn't mean running the same play over and over but not going away from what is working. tOSU stuck to basically three run plays. It was enough of a mix up to keep Nebraska honest. We never adjusted to those plays so they kept going to them... no need to get fancy.
  6. Kara you bring up a good point. Why wouldn't we roll out Taylor more times than not when we throw? It would play into his strength as a runner in space giving him a run/pass option. Also in my opinion when Taylor does drop back it should be mostly screens, play action and TE seams passes after they bite on the play fake... this is all set up by the run though. In reality what I just wrote totally goes against Beck's offensive philosophy, which goes against Taylor's strengths more times than not. Beck's offense is designed for Todd Reesing, not Taylor Martinez IMO.
  7. http://www.elevenwarriors.com/2012/10/14742/osu-v-nebraska-offensive-review#more Basically the story is that tOSU made adjustments after the 1st quarter and we did a extremely poor job of countering those adjustments. Either our coaches didn't recognize they were running basically just three plays over and over or Bo/Paps are just to damn stubborn to adjust from what they do. Could be a big reason we continue to get gashed by running QB's. In that first quarter tOSU called one designed run play but after they made adjustments they stuck primarily to their run game. IMO that is something we would never see Beck do. If the run was continuing to work, he would force drop back passing anyways.
  8. I know it isn't popular on here Duke but I agree with you whole heartly. We should focus more so on running the ball than throwing. We are trying to fit a square peg in a round hole but as we know it doesn't work. There is nothing wrong with throwing the football but it isn't us as our main focus. Run the football and keep doing it more times than not until someone stops us. As Woody Hayes would say about throwing the football to much, "There are three things that could happen when throwing the ball and two of them are bad". We threw the ball plenty during the Osborne years but it wasn't our focus and it shouldn't be our focus now. If we want to continue to throw the ball so much, make a change at QB plain and simple. I don't care what someone says but Martinez is not the right QB to have back throwing the football very often. With that said, what is Taylor's strength? Oh that is right running the football.... THEN FREAKING DO IT!!!! If I wanted to watch us throw the ball more times than not I can go watch Washington State or Texas Tech but of course I don't want to. Apparently focusing on the run isn't a bad thing to tOSU, KSU or Bama?
  9. MNC or not, what Snyder does works and you can't deny it! What he does isn't that much different than the Nebraska Way in reality. Actually what he is doing now is a LOT closer to Osborne than what Bo is doing or has always done. The style Bill Snyder uses is just plain and simple smart hard nosed football. There is no other way to explain it. Play hard, don't make silly mistakes, don't turn over the ball, force turn-overs, great special teams, run the ball and pass enough down field to keep the opponent honest. Doesn't that sound familiar?
  10. Again in reality what Bo needs to do is weather the storm this season. Get to at least 8 wins (still unacceptable) and then in the off-season he needs to do some soul searching about his football philosophy. Will he be willing to make some scheme changes to best suit his talent? Will he possibly bring in someone with more experience to help on the defensive side of the ball that may have some answers to the questions he apparently doesn't know? It is all up to Bo to make things last in Lincoln but right now he is treading water fast and he is in danger of going down with the ship you could say if he doesn't fix it.
  11. I think it is a worthy question and concern. Our style of offense doesn't help the defense at all. Most high powered offenses that are quick strike design their defenses around speed and risk. They set their defenses up to try to force turnovers to get the ball back for their offense but not built to stop an opponent really. We don't have a good enough passing attack to put that type of stress on a defense that isn't built to take to many chances. The blackshirt defenses of old forced a lot of turnovers due to speed and their attacking nature. Then our offense got on the field and worked the clock or busted big long plays. It was a balanced and deadly combination.
  12. I believe he was instrumental with the Wisconsin hockey program and was big in seeing through hockey construction projects.
  13. His PC wasn't a rah rah one but I liked what I saw. He seems like a good guy and intelligent. He doesn't seem like the type that will come in and change things drastically. Just pretty much build on the good things of Nebraska. I'm interested in seeing how he develops the hockey program going forth for D-1. I think this is something he could be a major player in and be able to put his stamp on Nebraska lore.
  14. True but I think most Nebraska fans would accept that and still flash that trophy. All that matters in the end is we would be champions. It doesn't have to be pretty, just win! I think that is all Husker fans hope at this moment. It doesn't matter if the team wins by 40 or just by 1, win the ball games your suppose to and put up a great fight in those you know are extremely tough. I look at the schedule and only see Michigan that should be a game we know will be very tough. If we pull our heads out, we should beat everyone else on the schedule. That is likely not to happen at this moment.
  15. To be fair to Patterson, this year has been a distaster but that started before the season. The move to the BIG XII has meant nothing when it comes to their fail. It has to do with losing players due to suspension (failed drug tests), having a rebuilding year and having a idiot for a QB (no matter how talented). We forget he is just two years removed from a Rose Bowl victory over a very good Wisconsin team. This is where I think there is slight hope he will leave TCU for a place like Nebraska when the time comes. He has done wonderful things at TCU but there comes a time for all coaches that one gets in a rut. Look at Ferentz at Iowa now, it happened to Snyder at KSU in the mid 00's, Fulmer finally had it happen to him at Tennessee, Fisher with the Titans, etc.
  16. Pretty sobering stats but it is pretty much what many have already knew with common sense. If you know football and watch enough you can tell what a well coached team is and one that is not. Pentalies and turn-overs are the #1 tell tale sign of bad football. You can have good talent and still come up short if your not doing the little things right. I would love to see the stats for Bill Snyder and KSU when it comes to pentalies and turn-overs. I'm sure you could tell right away from his many good years compared to his few bad years. During a typical Snyder/KSU team that averages 10+ wins, they hardly ever turn-over the ball or commit stupid pentalies. Also look at how many turn-overs they force and what wonderful work they do on special teams. Football in the grand scheme of things isn't a difficult sport if you just play smart and don't play like a idiot... Tom Osborne and Bill Snyder has proven that.
  17. There is nothing wrong with JUCO players as we take them as well. The name of the game is to get the best possible talent one can get. If we can get 3 or 4 big time JUCO players at positions of needs sprinkled in with the high school kids, we will be doing alright. More times than not those JUCO kids are equivlent to 4* star high school kids and on occasions are 5* talents (Auburn won their NC due to Newton and Fairley).
  18. To be honest I don't think tOSU was really that more talent than we are. The difference between them and us is coaching and having their stars perform at a high level. The guys we depend on the most either turn over the ball or miss the tackles when we need to make a stop. We also seem to have a leadership issue on this team. We should have players that keep everyone accountable. The problem is the one that should be in those roles make just as many or more mistakes as everyone else.
  19. Exactly there is no excuse for not winning the B1G this year. The problem is the team is set-up currently by Bo and staff not to succeed. The talent is there but we are just being poorly coached right now. As I've said many of times to people, if Kansas State can win like they are right now, there is no excuse with the talent we have to not succeed.
  20. What the Duke posted... What happened to the Nebraska football program? 1. Frank stopped recruiting 2. Steve P. stopped tradition 3. Cosgrove stopped the Blackshirts 4. Bo kept the status quo. WE ARE NEBRASKA!!! And Nebraska does have standards. We believe in running the football and stopping the run on defense. We believe in physically dominating the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball. We believe in option football. We believe in power football. We believe in a play-action passing game. These spread offenses may work for other teams, but we had an identity that worked for over 50 years, and it wasn't the spread. We understand that penalties are part of the game, but many of these stupidly repeated penalties lately have to stop. It's not just a coincidence anymore, the frequency of the same penalties have become a habit, and they are costing us games. We believe in winning at least 9 games a year, at least competing for a conference championship every year, playing in a bowl game, and being consistently in the Top 10. We believe in playing for a National Championship before we ever think about roses. I wanted to highlight this post again and I belive the 2nd time now in this thread alone. This is what I'm looking at and expecting!!! We need to play not only smart tough football but we need to start playing back to our strengths. Play the brand of football that works in this region. Kansas State is playing to these guidelines now and I know for sure we can recruit at a much higher level than they can. Things would have had worked for Coach Solich if he just would have changed up his staff earlier to fit the needs of recruiting. Coach Solich HAD the blueprint for success and we are witnessing him doing it at Ohio now. Why is it we run a offense that is uptempo but turnover over prone to counter a defense that can't stop anyone? Shouldn't we be playing smash mouth football with ball control? Playing smash mouth football doesn't mean you can't recruit speed... look at Alabama. Our best defense can be our offense. We can take more chances on defenses if they aren't out on the field all the time with short fields. These are things Bo can fix but he is to damn stubborn and set in his ways. We had the blueprint for nearly 50 years but in time we lost who we are. We lost it with Callahan and it was suppose to be restored with Bo... that has never happened! Bo can fix these issues currently by changing up his scheme to fit his personnel. We aren't talking wholesale changes to the scheme in the middle of the season but impliment packages that may help the defense combat against certain looks. What he can do in the off-season to help him keep his job for many years to come is bring in a defensive coordinator that can get the job done. We know more than likely Bo isn't going to do that as he is the "true" DC in the long run. Offensively Beck needs to tone it down and fit the offense to the team make-up. He is running a offense that is contradicts our defense.
  21. We are at the cross roads and it is only up to Bo Pelini and staff to fix it. Can they get the team to be assignment sound and play mistake free football in the turnover and pentalies department? Can they make the adjustment to stop dual-threat QB's? These are things Coach Pelini can fix and make this into a B1G championship caliber team still. At this moment so many Husker fans don't see him as the man that can fix these problems and we are likely heading for a tailspin. This isn't like the Callahan era where we saw issues that couldn't be fixed by him. The issues at hand now can be fixed by a coaching staff and players that are committed to a smart football approach, we hope!
  22. Very true but we should be able to play a style of football that is filled with blown assingments, coverages and turnovers. If we take care of the little things like good football programs do, then we shouldn't be losing to anyone but possibly the likes of Michigan, Ohio State or possibly Wisconsin. That puts us in the 10 wins a season catorgory at worst. There are coaches out there that can have us winning or playing for the conference championship every year. I do agree, we need our Warrior to lead us to the top! We had that in the 90's with guys like Tommie Frazier, Peters brothers, Wistrom brothers, etc.
  23. We look slow and soft because of our scheme. Our defense doesn't play with any sense of urgency. That is what you get when you have good recruits playing in a complex defense that take elite men to pull it off. If we played to their strengths, they would look much faster and tougher. Frankly it is all about our 2-Gap system plain and simple. Sadly we will have the 2-Gap system as long as Bo is our head coach. It is what he knows and he won't adjust. Let the kids get up the field and swarming to the ball! This read and react crap is killing us! Speed is the name of the game. From the secondary, to the linebackers to the front four... they need to be fast! Our scheme doesn't allow for that. I miss the old Big 8. I don't miss certain aspects of the BIG XII. I like being in the B1G because it reminds me of the old Big 8, but sadly it is not the old Big 8.
  24. Guys it isn't rocket science, we had two excellent head coaches. Men that could run a elite program on and off the field. They were able to adapt to what they saw. They had staffs full of excellent loyal assistants. It can be done again for sure. We may never have the success we did in the 90's but to accept blow-outs and only 8-9 win seasons doesn't cut it. The B1G is not a killer conference right now. There is no excuse we shouldn't be able to rule the B1G in its current state. We should expect 10 wins at least, challenge for the conference title every year and expect to be playing for the National Title every five years or so. If we want to be good enough then we should keep Bo and move forth for years to come with him. We will end up being Texas A&M, UCLA or Michigan State. I don't accept that as reality!
