My thought is to take helmets off the players and they would certainly not lead with the head on tackles. Devise some padded foam hood covered with leather to protect the head when hitting the ground.

The officials blew the play dead after they saw no more forward progress being made. Then they separated the players to see who recovered the fumble. Had they not blown the ball dead more players from both sides would have jumped on the pile and made their job more difficult. It seems the only people that "heard the whistle" were those sitting in their living rooms drinking beer and eating chips. And wearing a corn cob on their heads, of course.

Are you saying you actually heard the whistle? I've watched the play several times and didn't hear a whistle, nor did I see any players react as though they heard the play whistled dead. First rule in a fumble pile is you hold onto the ball until the ref physically reaches you and asks for the ball.

My high school coach would say "We didn't execute well at all" after a loss. Then he would add that the coaching staff failed to coach us properly and THAT is why we didn't execute well. The players can only perform as well as the scheme the coaches give them to execute. If a coach blames the players for poor execution then he is failing his duty as a coach. I thought the Nebraska coaches called a good game against Georgia. The run calls and the blocking by the O-Line was good, and the RBs did well. At the half I was worried that Nebraska might just break the game open in the 3rd quarter and run away with it.

Thanks for posting, great game to UGA. Couple quick questions that I am looking for an honest answer on. 1) How does our O stack up agains SEC offenses? 2) Are our offenses athletes comparable to SEC ones? 3) What were you most impressed by in our team? What a fun game to watch. At the half I was really worried Nebraska would come out and run down our throats and wear down the defensive line. The Georgia defense was getting tired late in the 3rd quarter, but the offense stepped up and gave them some rest. They were in much better shape in the 4th quarter. As for your questions? 1) The Husker offense is physical and aggressive, as are the better SEC teams. Your receivers weren't as fast as ours, but most SEC teams aren't either. 2) The Nebraska offensive line seemed to be lighter than an SEC line, but they were strong enough to handle some big guys. Your RBs were strong enough to break tackles and run past some guys, but your WRs didn't have the speed to run by a good set of DBs. Let me say something about "SEC speed." Every team in every conference has some players with great speed. But what we refer to as "SEC speed" is having OLinemen that can pull across the line, get to the outside, and block an LB to let the RBs turn the corner. You had a couple of guys that could do that. But most important is to have DLinemen that are quick enough to get down the line and prevent that OL guy from cutting him off, or being able to penetrate the line of scrimmage and chase down the RB or QB behind the line. I didn't see that on your defensive line. John Jenkins was our best DL for that. He was very quick for his first 3 or 4 steps. Too bad you didn't get to see him. 3) Nebraska gave Georgia all they could handle on both the offensive and defensive lines, and your pass defense was almost good enough to shut us down. Your RBs were tough and punished our defense on every tackle. Martinez is a good QB, especially as a dual threat. Nebraska came to play, and they played tough the entire game.

If Nebraska starts the 2nd half strong they might just win this game. They have looked good on offense and defense so far. Murray better stop throwing those wild passes for INTs. This reminds me of the 1st half of the Florida game. Time for the 2nd half.

I agree with lo country, from the Georgia side. Richt has a tendency to ease up after getting a good lead and letting the other team get back in the game. See last years loss to Michigan State as an example. Georgia needs to be innovative in mixing the running game with the pass and wearing out the Nebraska defense. Richt is also locked into his pro-style play action offense and if he doesn't mix in enough 5-WR sets and spread options then the defenses tend to find the gaps and shut down the run. Once any team becomes one dimensional then they will lose unless they are exceptional, and neither team in this game fits that description. Georgia also has to use the TE more in the passing game. We have 3 good ones and that can really free up the WRs.

Well, he leads the nation if that helps. Well, that might help Georgia, but maybe not Nebraska.

I think Martinez and Murray are close to equal in talent, with Martinez being a much better runner. Murray has, in the past, had a tendency to fumble or throw an INT in crucial situations. But this season he is much improved. One key will be turnovers at the QB position. I don't know how many fumbles and INTs Martinez had this season, but Nebraska needs to hang on to the ball and try to wear down the Georgia defensive line. Looks like it will be a great day for football tomorrow.

If Nebraska can establish a good run game and Martinez gets loose for some yardage, then I see the Buskers scoring significant points. But they will also need a passing game to support a run game. Same for Georgia. If Gurley and Marshall rack up some yardage then the Georgia passing game will score fast and often. Nebraska has a good pass defense so Georgia will have to attack it carefully and avoid interceptions. The run defense is not so good. Georgia gives up rushing yardage but can stop the run in the Red Zone, and the Georgia pass defense will give Martinez problems. They can play man coverage well, which frees up the LBs for pass runs and run stopping.
