I'm looking to buy a tablet/iPad. I've never bought one before and I basically just want it to surf the web, and stream movies/shows during flights. Is it worth buying an iPad, or would a cheaper tablet suffice?

I can't comment on the options others have mentioned but I got an iPad Pro 9.7 a year or two ago and I love love love that thing. It wasn't the least costly possibility by any means but I have had zero problems with it and use the crap out of it for about everything; surfing, movies, Netflix, Amazon Prime video, television, music, Kindle and audio books, Square credit card processing and the camera/video on it is excellent. It is a perfectly fine substitute for a laptop for travelling and business trips. The only thing I've found it won't do that I'd like to is AutoCAD drawings (and if I looked into it harder I may discover there is a way to do that). You could probably get by for less money but you sure wouldn't be sorry if you went this way.

I bought an iPad about 6 years ago and it is still going strong. I love it because I could download all of the educational apps on it and because I was on the Cloud I didn’t use much memory. It’s great for streaming movies and I can acccess Play Station Vue, Netflix, Prime and various sports appsvI’vd downloaded on it.
All of my devices are Mac do it works great. It just depends on what you want to use it for.
I also love my Kindle Fire. I use it to read books, although I could do that with my iPad as you can download the Kindle app on it too. Bigger screen for my iPad vs Kindle Fire.
