  1. I met the oc of his school at work. Really awesome coach who just got back from a coaching clinic at OU. Coach talked him up a bit. Sounds like a great young man who apparently is a do it all athlete. I think he mentioned baylor as a school that's been looking at him
  2. With the TAMU opposition to this UT to SEC talk would it be possible or likely that the B1O would aim at TAMU, MIZZ, and maybe a contingency of the big 12 teams? Would they make a place for OK State and offer a better deal to TAMU and MIZZ if it meant being able to snag Oklahoma?
  3. Did any of you hear the rumors a few back regarding a B1O southern expansion involving Georgia tech and Miami? I think Virginia, North Carolina, Pitt and Duke were also mentioned. Mainly as a way to entice Notre Dame into the conference but also for the newer B1O additions as well as for Penn State. I don't think invitations for all of these schools were in play just as "possibilities".
  4. Unfortunately, no. I haven't had free time for the past few months. Which, to me is, quite a bummer deal.
  5. Jaimes OL MVP, Wandale O MVP, Jo Jo LB OTY, and Mills O Back OTY would have probably been my picks, but these banquet awards are kind of just an in-house thing so it is what it is. Really just surprised Wandale isn't listed anywhere on this thing.
  6. The article is just decent. It's an opinion piece from a student or somebody trying to get into sports writing I'd imagine. The defense, itself, is what Pat Narduzzi ran at Mich State and what he runs now at Pitt. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x3tT6wS1eC4&list=PLN6nh81grVQT3MUJY2aHMYy4Dzt57VNKF&index=3 A good playlist here. The video above is a short breakdown of a passing scenario. There are also run defense and alignments videos and core concept videos.
  7. https://fishduck.com/2016/02/i-fell-in-love-with-a-defensive-system/ this sums it up decently well and its just 1 of the first few articles I just now googled. It's a little aged so the defense has changed a little bit. Brent Venables runs a lot of cover 1 out of it with 4/3 over, but I think its based on the same alignments. As a side note. If you search up quarters high match-up zone you will get a whole lot of pat narduzzi, but there are quite a few really good breakdowns too. Some good videos on youtube breaking down fronts, personnel groupings, stunts, etc.
  8. In today's game I think running a quarters high match up zone is the way to go. The 4/3 gives you the luxury of going wide 9 and easily switching in nickel and dime personnel without having to mix up the responsibilities of the down lineman. I do like the quarters high look out of a 3/4 nickel pack squeezing the ends down and replacing the nose guard. So much you can do out of the 3/4, if only you had a guy that could rush passer.
  9. HOLY COW! a commit from Ranger TX. I live only 20 mins from there. I may have to go and show some support.
  10. Bud Foster is supposedly retiring. Id pay him whatever it took to unretire. keep fish and let him hire whoever who thought he needed on his staff added after: just for fun https://www.thekeyplay.com/virginia-tech-football/2015/09/10081/depth-analysis-hokies-bear-defense also note in the link above what game (the opponent) it is
  11. If this is true, it's a bit disappointing. This young man, impo, had the most talent of all the guys at his position next to ferg. Made a lot of plays during practice, but there were rumblings of some other issues plaguing him. I'm sure if he ever gets things straightened out he could be a real contributor for someone out there. I wish him well.
  12. I don't know anything about Tuioti, but I remember in the not-so-distant past hearing about Tim DeRuyter when he was on TAMU's staff. From what I remember he was a darn good defensive mind with quite a bit of experience. DeRuyter has been Tui's d-coordinator
  13. Thoughts? Also my first ever thread. Don't slay me too bad
  14. A disclaimer: I live in Texas and would love for the B1G to expand in this general direction I see the Texas and OU conversation pop up relatively frequently anytime the off season realignment speculation kicks in. I wonder, though, why hasn't the expansion talk ever directed itself towards Texas A&M? I've been to college station plenty of times (Purify in the endzone. I was 20 yards away from that catch) and I think from a conference standpoint they are a much better fit in the B1G. They have a robust following, great traveling fans, top notch academics, and are generally less lousy in how they treat their conference mates. Are they, now, too attached to the SEC to even consider it? Or should the B1G try to nab both UT and TAMU in future realignment talks? Or hopefully just TAMU...
  15. It seems like he his blaming the former dc for lack of development and teaching improper defensive techniques and then doubling down on the players for regressing back to said poor coaching...I guess this is why they are strained. Maybe I'm in the ballpark...
  16. Bold prediction...Nebraska beats Oregon by >13.5 points
  17. Eno plays high-school ball about an hour from where I live. I like it when UNL recruits guys from down here. Here's hoping we do.
  18. This is a made up account on facebook. Should have never openly acknowledged it. Now the trolls will be out in full force.
  19. i don't think Bo would take Gill........ I don't pay too much attention to the inner workings of coaches and their relationship to other coaches. Didn't the two of these coach together previously under Solich? I'm not entirely sure. Not to dramatize or dig too deep, but were there issues with them working together?
  20. In regards to potential coaching changes: Has the shipped sailed on Turner Gill possibly returning here in some facet? I've been watching some old highlights of his playing days, his tenure at Buffalo, and some clips of him at pressers. I think he would make a great assistant on this staff and would bring some sense of stability to the offense even if he was just a position coach. I like Gill as a person and I think he would be better received had he not jumped ship to Kansas.
  21. I would love to see Mike Leech back in Texas. I think with the talent he could get at UT, things could be very enjoyable to watch. Would love to see Mike Leech at Texas then renew the rivalry with A&M. UT v A&M and the Tuskan Raiders of Lubbock. Now that would be 3 very fine ball games to watch. Here's hoping.
  22. As far as defensive formation goes, I've really been pondering at how well these guys would do in a 4-4 base 2gap front with the option of having an extra defender coming off of either edge. Would, more than likely, be a nickel base personnel with many of the same principles as the current set-up, but with the option of going to a Tampa 2 style zone over the top. Another in-game tweak would be to go to full on zone cover 3 with 4 underneath and a 4 man attacking 1gap front. The base defense wouldn't be much different than what the team is already running. However, the extra sets may be tricky to implement in season, but at least the linebackers would be given more liberty to run around and make plays and the cover corners would give the wide receivers and the opposing coaches different looks. Just a thought from a wanna be X's and O's guy. Note- My high school ball team ran a 4-4 base cover 3 2gap. Worked fairly well considering we had very little talent.
  23. I'm in the over 9 win club. Not sure of a specific number, but I think they will get to at least 10 wins. 2-3 regular season losses, maybe a B1G CCG, and a bowl game. In 13 games: no more than 3 losses. In 14 probably 4 losses.
  24. "And here is what you should know, Nebraska fans: This is your coach. This is Pelini. A tirade like this is not out of character for the 45-year-old Ohio native. Pelini has regularly accosted local media members in such fashion over coverage with which he disagreed. I got the phone call once when I worked for Omaha World-Herald, covering his first three seasons in Lincoln -- and many others heard the same tone and language evident in that ugly audio" -Mitch Sherman-http://espn.go.com/blog/bigten I don't rightly know who Mitch Sherman is. I'm not sure if I have ever even read one of his postings besides this one. I will say, however, that if the above quote is true I have deep personal issue with it. Using a proverbial bully pulpit to limit one's ability to openly discuss circumstances at hand (for better or worse) is morally unethical. Being emotionally charged and offended while speaking out in the confines of your own privacy, with individuals you trust, in order to vent, is perfectly OK in my book. However, taking on an aggressor's role to personally make "the phone call" to ANYBODY (media member or otherwise) to flame and bully them, with "the same tone and language evident in that ugly video", into a silent submission, or even to pressure them in the slightest bit is a fire-able offense: a ban-able offense. Mr. Sherman eludes to a can of worms being opened with the release of this audio tape. He hinted at the fact that there was really nothing any of the targets of these bullish tactics could do about it, and that Pelini was doing it "to blow off steam." That, to me, is the single most disappointing and enraging sentiment I've heard about this whole Fire Pelini fiasco. There is no proof from Sherman about "the phone call" in the article, but if proof was ever to surface about this type of devilish behavior I certainly would support a significant coaching ban on him. This is so disappointing, because I've always believed that Pelini was a good person at heart, a good coach, and a great role model for the players in Lincoln. He has had some outbreaks during games. I know it looks bad, but when I played the game I'd get emotional too. I never did or said anything to my teammates or coaches (or anybody for that matter) that could even be slightly construed as bullish. Hot headed? You bet, but not bullish. Bullying is intolerable. I cannot stand, tolerate, accept or turn a blind eye to bullying of any kind. I really hope Pelini has not made a mark of doing this to people, and that his reputation has not been built upon this kind of stuff behind closed doors. -Praying for the entire Pelini family, including Bo.

    Relevance

Nebraska is relevant to me and my family and to many people that I know or have met, even here recently. I can assure you that even people who love to bash Nebraska enjoy watching their favorite team play against the Big Red. Being bent out of shape because the "national" media decides to say less than stellar things about the program shouldn't bother you. Just like it shouldn't bother you if fans from other areas or of different teams like to talk trash. If it does, take a break from the old ball game for a bit and gain some perspective. Side note. Mature Nebraska-like recruits will not take the media hub bub to heart. In fact it may inspire them to change the face. Another side note. Sports writers and media outlets gain revenue when prominent teams' fans, like Nebraska, frequent their "wares" (their articles, podcasts, videos, etc.). Getting a rise out of fans, or reaching fans on an eye to eye level with like-minded concerns increases their attention and their bill folds.
