  1. Now the best way to stop Ga Southern is to put your DVR on Pause! Fire Chin in zoctober too!
  2. First the Blackshirts are gone and now there are no names in the back of the Jersies- they are officially the No Name Defense.
  3. Hire the North Dakota State head coach or similar lower division successful coach.
  4. Why football seems to be going bad- 1. Covid-19 nonsense. Total over reaction by many. These conditioned athletes have little to worry about- almost the issues as getting the flu. 2. The current playoff. Bowl don’t mean much unless your team is playing. Only the two championship bowls are important. we should play the bowls like they used to be done. After the bowl season, pick the four teams to compete for the Championship. Remember the days when sports writers used to go through convoluted bowl games outcomes to explain how your team could get into the top 10 or better. Most of the bowl games were important to the poll. 3. Rule changes. Too many rules changes ruins the game. Targeting is crap. The runner can use his helmet crown or hands to the face but the defender cannot. If safety is truly the, then both should be subject to the penalty. I think the entire penalty should be scrapped. Most refs have played and can determine if someone was trying hurt it injure the opposing player- in that case, the ref should have the description to eject anyone for unnecessary roughness. Blocking rule changes make it harder for smaller players to take the big monsters down. Can’t hit low if someone else is touching him high. Crack back restrictions. sliding QB rules- IMO sliding should be a 15 yard and loss of down penalty for cowardice. 4. Instant replay. Too many interruptions. It’s like giving the teams double the time outs and disrupts momentum. 5. Player Portals and NFL early outs. Players should play for their teams until they are drafted. I don’t want to hear announcers whine about this team or the other playing without their key people. Without them playing, the game has the importance of the spring game or NFL preseason games. 6. Lack of fundamentals. Players seem to have the tackling Fonda mental of wrapping up the legs. The big fat guys seem to like the bear hug tackle and get dragged for 3-5 yards after contact. The little guys seem to adopt the bartering ram tackle with few wrapping up the legs.
  5. I see it as on the last minute- the O line could have done better and Martinez threw some bad passes. Maybe, if the line gave him a few more seconds, his passes would not have been off his rear leg.
  6. I think Frost’s major fault is that he failed to make changes/corrections in the last four years on recurring problems. We need a coaching team that develops over years- not an unstable coaching rollover. Frost is the head coach responsible for coaching team. I think Frost should have been fired except that he fired the most blatant problem coaching areas. I believe his most important task is find a great O line coach and a road grader line that effectively pass block when needed. A close second is the special teams and kickers. A lot of current problems’ impacts will lessen if the O line gets first downs for long drives, no penalties and capitalizes field position from good kickers, special teams and defense. Didn’t Devaney preach field postition and ball control? Also, find a defensive back coach equal to Warren Sanders.
  7. Talk about a real motivator for Iowa!!!! That team will be higher than a kite with the highly insulting prediction.
  8. Should be a special bowl game for the best 3-9 teams and another for the two worst teams. May be very interesting games to watch.
  9. Don’t know about coaches. Wild thought- call Tom Brady and ask him what his plans are after pro ball.
  10. If we win both games, recruiting would benefit the most. I also think that Jojo Domann not playing will hurt. His leadership and play is much bigger than the number of tackles he makes each week. Martinez will still be there with his limitations. The O Line will be the biggest problem again. I don’t expect these next two games to be much different than the past close losses. Can’t tell if the offensive coaches’ firings will be a downer or not. They need to do well In order to get the next job. The offense players are not going to improve with a bye- they are still the same. biggest variable- the play calling. Lubbick is going but Frost was doing much of it. Does he change in a week???
  11. Good comments but moot- until he gets a great offensive line and receivers who can block- no scheme will be successful. He needs a line that can be reliable road graders but quick enough to pass block. Personal preference- Frost needs to move to more of a north- south game using power running and passing with more use of ends and recrivers over the middle in 5-15 yard range. No more of this passing into the flats for one or to yards.
  12. After Leach’s antics at Texas Tech, I would not want him at NU. I would prefer Pelion over Leach.
  13. In the 4th Qtr, 6 points behind, 4th & 3, and you some mojo going; and you decide to kick a field goal (and it misses)!!!!! The Coach should reconsider staying here next year. With OSU’s speed and outstanding D line, why call so many slow developing plays to the outside or throw short to the flats? The play calling is weak IMO. Way too many missed tackles and Yards After Contact. The O line cannot hold the line long enough for Martinez’s skill and decisions. The O line is still weak. They cannot perform at an acceptable level through the whole game placing too much reliance upon the defense. Next year will be a rebuild year as the seniors leave and good ones sign up for the portal or leave the NU.
  14. The revolving door that referred to was about Callahan, Riley, Pedersen, Eichorst and the last AD. The changes in Asst coaches ripples through the organization in recruiting and player development. We fired two coaches already and we are still losing. We did not gain anything and we have no reason to believe a new coach will do better.
  15. After losing to Purdue in a game we should have won—- my earlier comments are still valid. With a bye last week, the play was the same and Martinez made key mistakes that list this game. He should be benched and start developing the QB for next year. A new guy can’t do any worse now since I expect we will lose all remaining games.
  16. Recruiting this year will be a problem. I expect the better players to look for other schools. i don’t like the Frost tenure so far but I don’t think he should get fired this year. The team has okayed better this year losing close games against tough opponents. We would have beat Purdue if you discount Martinez and his bad throws and bad decisions. Bench Martinez and maybe okay him as a receiver. Try another QB to get experience for next year. Get a line coach and recruit O lineman this year and try to hold onto the current receivers and running backs. Work on ball control and special teams. Bottom line- we have had a revolving door for coaches and AD’s since we fired two winning coaches (Solich and Pelion). Constant turmoil in coaching is not a solution unless we can pony up $100 million to get Saban or equal. We need a QB who plays like Brady or Rogers instead of Jekyll & Hyde QB.
  17. A few weeks ago, I thought it would be a two win season. Now I think the only possible future win is Purdue but it’s not a given with this team. We have good runners and receivers and a fair defense. The team has improved this season but are still losers. We also have weak offensive play calling, weak QB, poor kicker, poor tackling and an average, at best, offensive line. Based upon the team’s improved playing in the past month and our track record on head coach hires since Solich; Frost should probably could be retained but there must be some assistant coach changes and the addition of a special teams coach.
  18. They still can’t tackle!!! Look at the Yards After Cintact, missed tackles and the techniques (grabbing high or battering ram without wrapping up ortaking out the legs). At this stage, it’s just poor coaching.
  19. I have no idea how disconcerting talk is a delay of game BUT when I played many decades ago, you could get a penalty if the defense called out signals during the snap count after the offense was “SET”. I assumed that was the penalty but it’s still bewildering.
  20. Tackling was poor allowing far too many yards and first downs after first contact. The offensive line still has trouble blocking up the middle for short yardage.
  21. We are improving but we beat ourselves again. I don’t want to imply that Michigan is not good- they are. But we should have won. there were a few penalties, a turnover at the worst possible moment. We need to improve a lot of things it I believe we lost because our tackling is very bad. How many yards after contact were given up and how many tackles were missed? I could not count the number of times the Blackshirts failed hit in the waist or thighs and did not wrap up the runner’s legs. I would bet that over half of Haskins yards came after initial contact. Its fundamentals!!!
  22. I think his play calling is bad. Too many 1-2 yard runs up the middle leading to a 3rd and long predictable pass. He (and the QB) needs to stop throwing in the flats on or about the LOS. Football is a north-south game on the other side of the LOS. Too many end and receivers were open over the middle between 5 and 15 yards deep. We have the best set of receivers that I can recall in 40 years. The defense is good enough to play the top ten teams. The special teams and play calling are bad. The offensive line is not consistent, back and forth between good and bad many times in the same game.Frost should stop calling plays- be a head coach.
