  1. About fan buy ins, Joe Burrow’s father and two brothers played for Nebraska but went to LSU- one of top QBs in the country. Apparently, he did not buy in as a fan.
  2. I think Wisconsin and Iowa will beat us bad. I think we will struggle against Maryland. This season has just been bad and now the team knows they are losers. I doubt they have the morale needed to play like a team.
  3. Agree. some more bad observations: 1. Daniels gives us the ball on the 2 with his shovel pass interception. We can only get 3 points through bad play calling, predictable tendencies, weak offensive linemen and poor play. 2. Poor tackling. I saw three tacklers surround the runner behind the LOS but come to stop waiting for the runner to commit. One jukebox and our tacklers are late and get dragged for a 3 yard gain. Generally, far too many yards after contact. LBs missing tackles. 3. QB passes up good running for bad passes. Not so much today but backs who stop forward movement, pump their feet thinking the next move will be a great run. They should makes their jukes at speed and get the yards possible. 4. I perceive the OC has a tendencies to call the same plays where old UCF videos help the opponent call the right defense. IMO, far too many throws to the sideline behind the LOS with the runner naked or having a small receiver for a blocker. If you can’t play a North-South game with power off tackle, short and medium passes over the middle and QB runs. I don’t Husker football will do well.
  4. I am worried that we might not beat Maryland now. I would bet that the team knows that Wisconsin and Iowa are going to beat the crap out of the Huskers. Win or lose against Maryland, there is no bowl game or future this year. Now we can look forward to next year. I don’t think that this team has enough pride or guts to do more than turn in the equipment and clean out their lockers. i cannot imagine that any top high school players want to join a bunch of back to back 4 win losers and coaches that are getting improvements.
  5. Then why doesn't he bench or coach them. If they don’t or won’t perform, they should not be playing. I am especially disappointed in the offensive line and coaches. They are good and show little improvement. The LBs are not getting done either and I think that issue is mostly the coach’s schemes and the LBs lack of practice at full speed. They are frequently out of position, over run the play and miss tackles. Pot tackling seems to be the main feature of this team. I think Glenn Mason said today that the Blackshirts give up 400 yards per game. How many times do you see tackles standing upright at the chest or shoulders going for 3 yards after contact? How many times do you see defensive backs hitting low without attempting to wrap up the legs? How often do you see the offensive line to fail establish running lanes or fail to control the edges? How often do we see them holding? THESE ARE FUNDAMENTALS THAT THE COACHES FAILED TO TEACH OR DEMAND.
  6. I don’t think Frost or his Coordinators have adjusted at all to the Big 10. Even the wins are generally weak.
  7. Every position should be today. We won’t win again this year. Maybe best to give the second and third teams the experience for the remainder of this year for next year. There are only a few starters that should continue to play.
  8. ANOTHER LOSING SEASON! We have shown no improvements from most year! We just got outplayed and out coached by one of the worst teams in the Big 10 today! I do do not think we can play the spread or the 3-4. Both need to be trashed. I doubt we have the personnel now to run anything else now. This is not UCF and Florida football in the Big 10. Our defenders can’t tackle and our linemen can’t block. We we are in a hell of a situation now. Why would great players want to come to Lincoln now?
  9. Can the Huskerboard get rid of these damn ads that get in the way of using the forum? The ads and especially the Google ads make this Husker forum irritating. GET RID OF THE ADS!
  10. It’s Huskers 10-7 and Purdue is outplaying is. Problems blocking, loose balls and some bad passes. I am afraid we will lose this one. Purdue is playing with more passion and intensity particularly their defense. Our play calling is too predictable.
  11. As I recall, AD Tippy Dye made two other offers that were turned down. I think Coach Duffy Daugherty, Mich State, recommended Devaney to Dye and encouraged Devaney to accept. Devaney was an Asst Coach At Mich State. Daugherty told him that he could win a championship at Nebraska but not at Wyoming. Bill Jennings has terrible records as the Huskers head coach but posted a few terrific wins against Oklahoma. Jennings was a good recruiter. He recruited Gale Sayers initially and Sayers followed him to Kansas when Jennings was fired. Jennings used to always blame poor talent for his losses on the Channel 10 Sunday morning Huskers football show. But, he did have some really great players on the team when Devaney took over. Devaney got 9 wins with essentially the same talent. You can check the Huskers in the pros lists to see ones who did great. Nebraska was a football powerhouse up through the 1940s. Nebraska best Notre Dame during their heyday.
  12. Tom Rathman and Roger CRAIG both set records with the 49ers for running and passing. This discussion missed the setting for these backs- the offense scheme. Most of theses backs ran in an I formation with some great full backs blocking and running in options. Mid you don’t have great offensive lineman, this magic mutant back that you are dreaming of won’t do much. With a great line, your grandmother could do well.
  13. I am opposed to paying college athletes. I think the NCAA should bar member teams from playing against any school that allows players to be compensated. If if players are compensated, sooner or later, student athletes will form unions and hire agents to get more money, work rules, and benefits followed by coaches forming unions. The other college sports teams will join the unions to get money too. With the money drain, many schools will run big deficits and education will suffer. Costs paid by students and sports fans will go up too. If the teams get paid while using university facilities, shouldn’t the teams be charged for the use of the facilities? What would stop promoters from hiring their own teams with higher pay- raiding the college teams for the best players? Then selling their services to the colleges with the most money. Would not the best players shop each year for better pay like free agents every year? Shouldn’t best female volleyball, soccer and basketball players get their cut of the money pot? It’s only fair to pay them. Another source of college revenue loss. If if the best players get money or more money, what is morale and psychological issues that will be developed? The focus will eventually be money and education will demphasized over time. College sports will eventually become college sports corporation. If the NCAA thinks the players are being exploited by the college or NCAA, perhaps some rules changes could be made to share likeness revenues by putting money in a blind trust for the players.
  14. I don’t want to see any coaching changes unless Frost makes them. I am tired of the constant turnover since Osborne retired. we used to point out with pride that our assistant coaches had been in the staff for many years. The coaches will improve their knowledge of the game, coaching, teaching fundamentals and schemes, and recruiting year over year. I think our current OCs have made some mistakes but will improve over time. Many people say fire the coach it will be better. We fired Solich and Bohl- both have gone on to become great coaches elsewhere. Even Callahan has done well as an assistant in the NFL. The head coach is important but mix and combined effort of coach and his staff is what really counts. Personalities and group dynamics are critical. Today near the end of the game, there was a running play with the line and backs running right with an inside handoff to a back running inside to the left. A pulling blocker went ahead of the ball carrier. He turned upfield into a good lane left of center. He also ran right by a tackler moving toward the hole. He had to have seen him but never touched him. The result was a tackle for no gain and a killed drive when we really needed it. The staff did a great job drawing up the play and making the call BUT one blocker failed to do his job. This offense has suffered from this problem all year. Is this a coaching problem or a player problem? Probably both both the coaches need to take lead.
  15. I hope you correct about becoming bowl eligible but after today I am skeptical.
  16. I am not a coach so I can only express my impressions. The defensive backs are good athletes but I don’t like the techniques being taught. The usually don’t play the ball- normally hands on, grabbing jersies, and eyes into the receiver. They should be playing the ball more with eyes back to the ball especially when the receiver is going deep. Marvin Sanders taught receivers to play the ball and be aggressive. The defensive line doesn’t push enough pressure on passer in many games. They miss many tackles- I think it’s because they are too fat. They can’t move quickly, find it hard to disengage blocks, often taken deep by the blockers and thereby creating running and throwing lanes. They find it hard to bend over to make tackles at the thigh level so there is no YAC. The OC and the LBs have trouble with schemes. The CBS go deep with the wide outs (looking into the receiver instead where the play is going) and LBs are frozen in the with pass-run thoughts while a back or end slips out in the wide open flat. Any blitzes are seldom disguised or timed. The OC seems to be out guessed frequently on going with zone or man. The offensive line does not seem to penetrate gaps to stop runs for no gain. The ends don’t play like rush ends of old to seal the edges at the offensive tackles outside butt location. The offensive lines is seldom effective at interior power running but the OC wastes many downs trying. The line is not fast enough to seal the edges to get wide runs going especially since we don’t feature fullbacks often. But when we do, it signals we are going to run. When are having trouble running, especially inside, we should go to a straight passing game until the defense is forced move men out of the box to defend against the pass. Then mix it up. Oversll, the Huskers are not aggressively playing the ball and are not thinking and playing smart. The only connection the defense of this has to the BLACKSHIRTS of old is the color of the practice Jersey. A coach once told me that offense is manned by smart, tough, fast and agile players who rehearse plays until they make no mistakes- everything they do is practiced orderly discipline execution. A great defense is a bunch angry aggressive players who detest good order and discilpine. Today’s Huskers don’t seem to reflect anything the coach believed. A famous coach said give 11 guys who want win and I’ll give you a winner, Give men 11 who hate to lose and I’ll give you a championship. It’s been some time since we had a team who hated losing.
  17. I hate those black jerseys. Nebraska’s colors are scarlet and cream. Wear the red jerseys! We are supposed to be BIG RED! Based on the record and on field play- the offense and defense starters should wear pink jerseys.
  18. The QB is not the biggest problem. The defense does not function right. They cannot play a game where they control field position. I watch and don’t expect them to stop anybody at 3rd and short. The LBs don’t seem to in control. That is on the coaches- their schemes and preparation fall short. The offensive line still is undependable. The play calling is bad about half the time. Turnovers and turnovers! Scott Frost: never never never call anymore pass plays to the sidelines at or behind the LOS. They are usually a waste of a down. Football is a north- south game!
  19. I agree. If your offense cannot run, you have to pass. Just need a QB that can get passes off in 2-3 seconds since the line is no good. Crappy weather is a dodge, it seems that the good college and pro teams in the northern so okay. Ideally, you pass to force changes in the defense so some running plays will go. In our case, the Husker line is crap so passing is the best hope.
  20. I don’t agree. Martinez was good last year - not this year. Vedral did as good as Martinez did this year against good teams.
  21. Minnesota destroyed us today. Looking at the remaining schedule, we have a chance to beat Purdue, Indiana and Maryland. Purdue will be a test and Maryland might be tough. We will be doing the best we can I’d win just get bowl eligible. Our recruiting chances go down as a result of this year’s performance. We failed to live up to the preseason expectations and failed to show adequate improvements. I think the coaches will be getting more criticism.
  22. This team is demoralized and they lack pride and fight. The best that can happen is that get a miracle that makes us bowl eligible and our recruiting is not hurt. I believe that there will never be anymore good Husker football until the offensive line issue is fixed.
  23. Who is this woman and what she do to get the balls thrown at her?
