Frost has worked for great coaches as a player and coach. His parents were coaches. I think he learned from all- not imitating them. I think you will over a 1-2 year period see a Frost offense that is his with maybe some glimpses of his old coaches. I am am not worried about his offense. I want to see an aggressive fast defense that believe they own the line of scrimmage. When was the last time we had a defense that we expected them to stop the other team on 3rd and short most of the time. In Riley’s time, I did not expect the defense to hold on 3rd down. I thought we had a higher percentage to get a 4th down by penalties, fumbles, interceptions or dropped passes. I believe defense is the key to turning things around.

UCF fans should be unhappy. They will go from a perfect season to something less with a new coach. Can’t blame Frost- needs to get a fast start due to recruiting demands. Coaches will follow their guy for more money. Recruits are usually attached to the coach who got them to commit. Heupel will likely bring in his own guys and will probably want his kind of athletes for his offense and defense schemes- not necessarily the same guys that Frost wanted. Nebraska could have tslked privately to Frost and held off until the bowl game but the gossip was rampant in the news media and sports news. I wish UCF well but I want the Huskersbsck to our traditions. Frost is the guy and we will be/are the bad guys in UCF’s eyes.

Earlier tonight, I listened to a podcast from Corncob with Charlie McBride on Huskermax. McBride talked about his conversation with Parella. He goes on to talk about his cosching methods. Very enlightening about what went wrong in Lincoln and why Riley failed. Highly recommend it to everyone.

A little off topic but I just listened to a hour long podcast.from corncob podcast on huskermax with Charlie McBride. Great insight to cosching under Osborne and bad cosching under Riley by way of Parella. It explains so much of what went wrong.

Will Carol Frost join the staff?

Wisconsin should won to show dominance and they would have been in the top 4. Ohio State lost two and had trouble some. They don’t belong in the top 4 this year. Alabama has a multiple year reputation, Saban and the press pushing for them. Wisconsin and Ohio State were rated as #5 & 6. Therefore, in my view, no other team should have been jumped over them to the big 4. I would prefer to play the bowl games and then pick the best four teams for the playoffs- semi finals in mid January and the championship game on the Day before the Super Bowl. Four teams would have a longer season but the TV monies would offset the pain.

I wonder if the coaches will try to get the two corner backs who recently decimmittedto come back?

Scott Frost mentioned restoring Husker traditions and seemed to indicate that his offense from UCF will continue. I hope he will eventually blend some Husker running with the pass. My concern is the defense. UCF gave up 55 points to Memphis and Riley’s Blackshirts gave up a lot of points and yards. I don’t like the 3-4 defense and I saw UCF use it some. Assuming the UCF DC comes with Scott, what changes do we think will be made to our 2018 defense? Where are we going with the Blackshirts?

It’s an old saying- win games with an offense but win championships with a defense. You need both but a high high scoring duel is not the way to go all the way.

Probably don't deserve to go bowling this year but I would like to see it. The seniors need it as a payoff for a lot of work and disappointments. The school would get more money. I think it would help recruiting to join a team that went bowling, especially if they beat Iowa and win the bowl game. It could not be worse that the year Solich took the team to LA play off based on the computer score and got thoroughly humiliated.

And announce that Diaco is leaving on Monday for an undisclosed family reason.

I don’t know the rules but I thought Nebraska was required to notify the NCAA and UCF to talk to Frost. If true, I can’t imagine something like that would not get leaked to the press. Riley and his staff will be fired. Usually, the firing is held until the season is over. Now the team looks so bad and it appears Riley, Diaco and others have lost the team. I think the team could not do worse with no coaches in the next two games. Morale is gone. Need to keep the fans energized arguing over who is the next coach followed by ripping the AD for spending so much money on the ola and new set of coaches. i was demoralized when We had two 6&4 seasons decades ago and then Callahan- but this the worst football I can remember.

The topic was development versus recruitment- seems to imply iits an OR discussion. It should be development AND recruitment Plus Coaching. Even if we recruuted twenty 5 star recruits, we still need to teach fundamentals, develop their athletic abilities, motivate them and meld them into disciplined units and then tweak the schemes and game plans for the games. Coaches have to provide the leadership and everything else. Riley and crew are not getting the job done. I do not believe the blackshirts are duds. They are much better than the results. The coaching is the biggest problem. The offensive line is another problem. They lack agility, quickness and speed And probably stamina. This is another coaching let down. Someone posted a list of 1997 offensive starters- 9 of the 11 were from Nebraska. Does anyone know how many of them were 4 star recruits? Did Nebarska run out of good high schoolers after 1998 or did the coaches not look hard?

I think the Minnesota game is a toss up. Otherwise, bad news for us.

I think Riley is a good buy, a class act and an average coach. I also thought Solich was fired too soon and should have been given another year with the new assistants he had hired. But in this case, I think Frost looks like the future to regaining our winning traditions. If possible, I would like to see Riley retained in the Athletic Department in some function. I would like to think that we are a good school and a good state- therefore we have room for a good guy to stay if he wants.

Can't speak for anyone but me- I don't like the b******* and would never do it. The school's main color is scarlet red and that is what we are known for in the football world. I don't like seeing people in white or gray even if its Husker apparel. I heard a Washington State dad tell his son once that he had never seen so much red. Stick with red!

This season is done for now. The only hope is that we go to a bowl on the strength of our fan base that will travel. The team does not need additional stress from firing the coaches now and the star players wondering if transferring might help them get to the pros. I think the new AD should concentrate on hiring one of the coordinators from Wisconsin, Ohio State or Alabama. We need someone who is on the way up.

I have heard press commentary that he is still upset over it and does not like to talk about it. He is from Nebraska, a player, assistant and then a Defensive coordinator for one year before being fired by Solich. It was embarrassing, hurtful and was a scapegoat. He has also said that Wyoming is his last stop before retiring.

Players will come if they think its a pipe line to the pros and their parents will push them if they think their kids will get an education. The rest is on the assistants to make the person to person connection and then to develop the players- their fundamentals, their conditioning, their pride and their motivation. The Nebraska players are still out there. There plenty of NU grads and ex-players around the country who can find good talent and pass it on to the coaches. We can't have revolving door coaches and offensive/defensive systems. I always felt that Solich got fires a year too early and Pelini needed someone to slap him up side the head while he grew up. Didn't happen- so the fans in the blogs yell for a new coach that will surely solve our problems. Successful coaches are already employed by big name schools. If you want one, you need to hire him away with huge salaries and guarantees. The only other sensible route is to find a very successful winning coach at a second or third tier school looking for his next step. Then buy the great assistant coaches to develop players and do the recruiting. Should be simple to do with tens of millions of dollars.

People have been ripping the linebackers. They may not be All-Americans but I would rip Diaco and his 3-4 defense assignments and game plan first. the three down linemen were double teamed most of the night and put little pressure on Barrett. Plays were being made past the Line of Scrimmage. Way too many yards after contact. Defensive backs playing loose and not playing the ball when running the pass routes with the receivers. The whole defense scheme is BS! Our offensive line is very weak. The left guard was not quick enough to even move his feet before getting beat by the defensive end- AND HE KNOWS THE SNAP COUNT!! There were far too many shoulder high tackles and missed tackles. Wrap their legs and they fall like a rock instead of surging forward for 3-4 more yards. I don't think the offensive coordinator is offensive enough to be a winner. NEXT WEEK WILL BE A GREAT WEEK SINCE WE WILL NOT GET BEAT!!!! ITS A BYE WEEK.

Even before the half, many seats were empty when the cameras panned up slightly. Seemed like the cameras did not pan up into the crowd later in the game. I think its over for Riley. Just a question of when and who can be the acting coach.

Yes it can. I saw Purdue play Wisconsin today and they looked much better than the Huskers. We might only win 1 or 2 more games this year. I can't see recruiting getting better with this record.
