  1. Stop them here and take the lead into the half. Let's just get a win here. Then we can hopefully make some adjustments. But that UCLA game is looming as a tough one given what we're seeing tonight.
  2. Kid can play, imagine if he wasn't on Wyo... Yeah, he'd be dynamite with our receivers.
  3. Hopefully that gives the team some momentum. It's time to take these Cowboys back behind the woodshed.
  4. If they score again before the half, I think we need to start worrying. We've been counting on the offense scoring 50 or so a game to cover for the defense as they get up to speed. And tonight at least the offense doesn't seem prepared to do that. SJB is having a hell of a game though.
  5. The improvement in team speed on defense is good to see. That should pay dividends down the road. But the middle of the defensive line is still far too soft, the pass rush is too slow to get there, coverage and tackling are suspect, the playcalling on offense is suspect and Martinez still looks uncomfortable in the pocket. It's still early, so hopefully they're just working the kinks out.
  6. not an unreasonable position to take. I place him just below... but placing him at that level is as well quite reasonable. TMart is a very, very good college QB. His teams have been 2nd/3rd tier... but he has been a performer. In answer to your query as to how Crouch or Gill or Frazier would have fared were they on the NU teams of the past few years --- they would have been very good... but probably could not have significantly elevated the team beyond what TMart did. They would likely look a lot like TMart. One man cannot do it all. Agree with all of this. But some people think that Tommie had magic fairy dust in his pocket, sprinkled it on his teammates, and willed them to win. Anyhow, I think I'm somewhat familiar with tfree32. How are you?
  7. This is a pretty cool tribute to Devaney written by Mike Babcock. http://nebraska.247sports.com/Article/Mike-Babcock-remembers-and-celebrates-the-life-of-Bob-Devaney-73632
  8. The secondary really has the chance to be special. They're going to have an insane bump in speed and athleticism in the Back 7 generally versus last year's bunch. It should be really fun to watch them fly to the ball.
  9. He seems like a nice kid, but just not cut out to be a QB at this level. I think the game just moves too fast for him and he's never developed the accuracy you need to be a good college quarterback. But I wish him well.
  10. When we get to the end of the season, who do you think will be our most valuable players on offense and on defense? Offense: I think Martinez nudges out Abdullah on the offensive side and has a great statistical season, leading one of the most explosive offenses in the country. Defense: My money is on Santos to edge out Anderson. The MLB position is a great spot from which to QB the defense and I think Santos could be special.
  11. I think 2 and suspect the game will be closer than many think. My guess is we pull away late and win comfortably, but don't cover the spread.
  12. He makes big plays, but leads the country in turnovers. He piles up monster stats, but hasn't won a conference or national title. Opinions on where he ranks in Husker lore are mixed. Is he up there with Frazier and Gill as one of the all-time greats? Is he more comparable to guys like Gdowski and Taylor? How would you rate his career? And how much of that still depends on what he does this season?
  13. I think part of the reason for this move is that Newby played in offense much more similar to the one that we currently run at Nebraska. So he's got the advantage of being more familiar with the schemes, playbook, philosophy, etc. So it makes sense to give Taylor an extra season to get up to speed, so he can hit the ground running next season and not blow a year of eligibility while he's really just trying to learn the offense.
  14. Herbstreit has always been kind of a jackass. It's also kind of creepy that he allegedly uses his celebrity to troll for college girls when he's traveling for ESPN.
  15. That's where I'm at too. I hope he has a big year and goes out with a bang.
  16. I like the black alternate uniforms, which would be especially cool if they were used for a home game at night with a "B******" theme. I do think they could have made these cooler though. The numbers on the front in particular don't seem to quite fit.
  17. Santos on a 67 yard INT he returns for a TD. On his way, Smith tries to make the tackle and Santos knocks him down and tramples him as he makes his way to the zone.
