  1. Furthermore, this is not a fluky set of losses like Iowa St beating us in 92' because they wanted it more and they were "better on that " type of thing. That happened during that era, very few times. We truly don't have the horses that alot of other teams possess. Do we have a Geronimo Allison? Do we have an Erickson as TE, do we have a defense that scares anyone from passing. All the teams that have beaten Nebraska, have had superior athletes at certain positions that change the out come of games. Who are Nebraska's game changers? TA? He changes the game, but usually for the other teams. Who are our playmakers? Difference makers? Haven't seen any on the field this season yet. Westerkamp? Newby? Cross? Ozigbo? Carter? Any? Check the talent expectations and chuck them in the tall grass.!!
  2. Apparently 4 of those teams have more talent, more want, and more confidence. They went down the field and won those games however fans want to approach it. Lucky yes, wanted it more, definitely. TA is not and will not ever lead this team to anything more than what it is right now. HE has been the QB during this 7 out of 10 losing stretch. Its ok to say that the talent here is down, and face the fact that Bo couldn't recruit. Its ok to say the better team won on those days. Its ok to want to get better as well. Pointing fingers at all the coaches is nothing different here. Tim Beck sucked, Watson sucked, Papuchis sucked, now Langsdorf sucks, and new DC sucks, and Riley sucks. LAst year Bo' sucked. The one common thread to all of this is the players! MAybe they don't have the talent and maybe they suck since this is a different staff and were still losing games!!
  3. No Ameer, no DPE until yesterday, and hes not 100% yet, no Gregory. Seems to me that this team is looking at replacing alot right there. Expectatoins were high for DPE to have break out season. He is one player who is just now starting to play. Gregory, even though had moments of ineptness, was a difference maker. Its not like we didn't see this in the last 7 years under Bo as well. He lost games to lesser talent, if you will, and lost games to Ranked opponents. His recruiting was awful the last two years, and this is why you see a team with a 2-4 record. This is why they lost down the stretch last season. This is why they have lost 7 of there last 10 games. It is on Riley some, if not 50%. Its also on the players 50%.
  4. Every one thinks that Nebraska has a trunk full of talent and Riley was just supposed to waltz in a score big from the start. This team isn't very talented, not very mentally tough, and now have lost 7 of their last 10 games back to last year. This losing just didn't start this season, it started last year. Wins against Iowa, Southern Miss, and South Alabama. Losses to Miami, BYU, Illinois, Minnesota, Wisky, Wisky, Michigan St. Other than Illinois and Iowa from last season, the rest at one time have been ranked in the Top 25. What does that say. Were looking at a very mentally challenged bunch that won 9 games last year, had their head coach fired, and now replaced with a new coach, new system, and new challenges. The one thing that hasn't changed is the mental toughness of this group. TA has a losers mentality. Face it, until Riley has his players, in his system, this won't work. I dare to have anyone on here look up and see how many players Bo put into the NFL, and how many Riley has. That should tell all of us something. Face it, its a process thats going to take at least 3 years to get in place. Its going to take 3 years to get Bo's crap out of that locker room. Its going to take 3 years for the current staff to get enough talent to even compete against top 20 schools. Isn't that what were after in the long run???
  5. I am willing to bet, since hindsight is always better than foresight, most would say we shouldn't have fired Solich. Especially since he did go and find Bo for Defense and if we had given them a few more seasons together, who knows, but I think a Big 12 crown would have happened. Someone mentioned of a curse since firing Solich. Karma is a real b!tch. Take a look back at programs with tradition that have replaced a legend. Oklahoma, USC, Alabama, Miami, and Nebraska are taking similiar roads to this point. Notre Dame and Michigan are along the same lines. Alabama during the 80's fired coaches right and left. OU did thru out the 90's. Notre Dame has had issues since running Holtz out of town. Michigan hasn't faired well either. USC until Carrol had nothing, and now since Carrol has left, they appear average. Miami hasn't been really good since the 90's, even though they could have won back to backs in 01 and 02, they cheated like hell to get those two, but that was under Coker who inherited talent from previous coach. Moral of story is we are going to have to be patient, and not saying that Riley is the next one, but firing another coach right now isn't the answer. Patience maybe won't fix things, but entitlement sure can ruin things.
  6. Everyone needs to stop with the Michigan and Florida comparison. Check the recruiting numbers, Michigan and Florida if correct were in the Top 20 in recruiting in the last 3 years. Talent was there. Coaching wasn't apparently. Nebraska does not have talent that Michigan and Florida have. Riley if given at least another year, will bring in better talent. Now I think we all know that Riley won't get canned yet, and more than likely will get another 2 years. I think we see progress. I think once some of these players move on and we recruit, this could change alot next year. Riley might not be the man to win a title here, but I think he is the person to bring back some talent, correct the image, make this job appealing for a really good coach. Penalties are a thing of reputation. Big 10 officials are maybe the worst Ive seen. Regardless of that, Bo's defiance and the teams lack of respect then and now are causing that issue. I don't think Neb is committing any more fouls than any other team, but they are being watched closer because of the reputation. Not fair, but something that needs cleaned up. Pass interference? How did this call become so judgmental. This call used to be so black and white. Either there was contact prior to pass or not. Now I here announcers saying stupid things about this. Like, Well, that was pass interference, but since it didn't have an outcome on the play, good no call, since both players were making contact, good no call. This is horrible. Things will get better, but only if the whole team can respond as a team. Sometimes coaching can only do so much if the players won't listen and try to adjust.
  7. At this point, TA can't hit even swing passes to RBs. Can't hit quick hitters. Great long ball throws but sometimes his receivers bail him out more than it being a great pass. He is not making correct reads. He has the green light to run, but he chooses to just heave the ball downfield and move on to the next down and distances. Not saying that the whole offense isn't struggling some, but how can we ever see what else is there unless something is changed at the QB spot? This team lacks "all in" commitment. You shouldn't see our offense sitting on the benches behind the whole team when your defense is out there trying to save the game. They should be on the sidelines cheering, showing some support to the whole team. They go back, sit along the fence, and act as if they don't care what the defense does. That might go both ways. This team has some serious bonding to do in order to ever win as a team.
  8. Two coaching staffs, same issues with Tommy........hmmmm, might be a Tommy problem, rather than coaching! How would anyone know whats behind Tommy when we don't see anyone else. Same as Pelini, wouldn't ever replace starting QB no matter how bad they were playing. When a thrower, throws bullets all game long, uncatchable balls, and completely off target throws, you try something else, even just for a quarter. He has worse mechanics than Martinez, Tebow, ever thought of. Setting up your receivers for success, instead of constant overthrows, fastballs that are uncatchable, success is a team thing.
  9. Culture change is needed. Reality check is needed. Expectations should remain high, but obtainable. Osborne might be the only one who can right the ship right now. His input should have been acknowledged on the last switch, but he might be the one most responsible for what has happen since he retired. Alabama for years after "Bear" was gone searched for relevance. They finally had it for a few years with Gene Stallings, once he left it was not until Saban came on board. Oklahoma after Switzer struggled for years until winning it all in 2000 and playing for it several times in the 2000's. Replacing a legend doesn't happen. ONce those who love the Huskers understand that maybe a 9 win average per year isn't terrible it might change.
  10. Only reason Baylor and TCU are relevant right now is because Mack Brown stayed at Texas too long. Wait and see what happens down there in the next couple of years. Once Texas gets going once again, those schools will die off. KSU once Snyder leaves again will go back to cellar dwellers with KU and be content to play round ball. Why can't Nebraska do it if those schools can? Great question. If you discover the answer, some Nebraska boosters would pay you for the facts. Money might fix some of it, but how much is the 4.5 million dollar question.
  11. Tough to explain. Recruiting died when left Big 12. Lost the state of Texas. Lost what was maybe the best recruiting base in the world for football players. Everyone made fun of Texas last week, but what did they do today! They beat OU who was top 10. Those players haven't given up yet, and they fought until the end of the game. They didn't give up when up against the wall. There was no entitlement for Texas today, they fought to win the game. When you here that Nebraska has as much talent as anyone in the West Div, what does that really mean to you? That means that all those schools have average talent, but no depth. Decent coaching and average talent. Formula for average football.
  12. Scream for better coaching hires all you want, but they aren' coming. Like I said, when coaches are interested in a school, their agents will contact them. If your a top notch job, coaching searches are short. Coaches with value will seek the school out! Don't see that happening right now or in the future until things change everywhere. Here is a name that no one will except, but track record alone would suggest he would think about it. Bobby Petrino. He has enough baggage, and an ego. He can recruit, he can coach. He can recruit!
  13. To assume anyone is content with 2-4 is absurd. However, if you cann another coach right now, your not replacing him with anything thats going to be better. Mack Brown, has been likes would be the the only types that would entertain the thought. Scott Frost might come in, but now that Oregon can't win, thats even looking dismal. Everyone throws out names that have been there for years, but they haven't showed up here. You think that Patterson would TCU for this? TCU might play for NC this year, and maybe should have last year. Leave that for Nebraska? He is Solich. HE is BO. For years TCU won 9 games a year and on occasion won a meaningful bowl game, but he also had some seasons where they went 7-5. 5-7. Gruden, here, come on guys, this guy has been there on the docket, and isn't interested in this gig. Do you really realize that if a coach wants a job, their Agent will contact school for an interview. No one is knocking on the door. No one will knock the door until big money boosters put away there checkbooks instead of throwing them on the table every time this program is not winning. The only school in the country that in a 12 year span that has fired two coaches with really good records. Solich and Bo won over 70% of there games. Now new coach, new style and this isn't good enough. Doesn't matter who is coordinating, Watson, Beck or present staff, they have never been good enough. Think about that. No matter who is coaching D or O, the cooordinators suck. OFfense sucks because we don't run like we did 30 years ago, Defense sucks because our secondary can't cover due to lack of coaching. Talent level isnt even close to what elite programs have. We might be comparable to Big 10 West, but that still remains one of the least talented divs in college football. Wake up, support this regime for another 2 years after this season. There is no savior out there. No one will come here that has a reputation of winning and being a great coach. For the sake of losing a couple of games and being message board firing material after 6 games. Its to bad that Bo wasn't here this season, because I don't think he would fair any better. Grow up. Big 10 football conference has ruined Nebraska. Don't ever forget that the only reason the Big 10 courted us for there conference was because we weren't a threat t screw there power teams anymore. Blame the school, blame Osborne for installing Solich when Nebraska could have had an elite coach, but I don't even think then it would have happened Who would have wanted to follow Osborne, the ones who have sure haven't faired well regardless who they are!
  14. Solich for President! I do kind of like the ring of that with all the former coaches joining with Frost as your next coach. It won't happen, but, at least sounds like something positive.
  15. Forget about having a new staff next year. Won't happen. Can't say that it should or shouldn't yet, but if we lose another game like this the team won't recover. Positive for this game was, they didn't give up, but this secondary is borderline awful. Is that all we have available to play back there? D-line played well. Linebackers weren't terrible, but the secondary is not well. Positive is they have 6 game left to get some wins and at least some respect, regardless how we feel about the coaching staff.
  16. Just to add those comments, Really thought a win here could salvage the rest of the season for the coaches, players and fans. Now afraid this team will lose complete confidence and get hammered down the stretch.
  17. Numbers don't lie. For all the good that TA does, its equally bad. He misses his receivers at a high rate, and its hurting the offense in general. I will never throw a player under the bus, too many factors involved. Time to shake things up on offense some though. The line can't sustain blocks and the offense becomes to predictable, just like last year, year before, year before that.............. Speechless. Can't remember ever seeing a team lose so many games in this manner.
  18. 3 or 4 seasons. Yes it takes time. We haven't beaten a ranked team that has meaning for so long. I would love to see this team win some "upsets". Forget getting 9 wins a season, when those 9 wins involved poor non-con teams, and quite frankly beating teams that had nothing but guts. Don't forget this program hasn't won a meaningful game in years. We have lost games every season since 2002 that we shouldn't, and some that never should have happened. Thats changing the mentality first. We still haven't changed that losing mentality. That mentality, we done our best, just wasn't good enough today. Thats the attitude of losers. This is what has impaired this program now for 13 years. It will keep going that way until we keep a coach, and let a coach, coach his way and his style and just sit and watch.
  19. The 92 loss was when Neb had truly great players. 96 loss to Arizona St was what ultimately did in some chances at 4 in a row, but Texas loss in the Big 12 champ that year was worse in my opinion. Colorado loss in 2001, giving up 62 points on cross buck runs..... Letting KU score 70..........Texas Tech loss........Washington loss in Bowl game......UCLA coming from behind in Lincoln two years ago to win a game that they had no business winning........Losing to Eli Manning and OLE Miss in bowl game.......These are were worst than losing to Illini. Compared too where the program is now, and was in some of those earllier losses, the Illini loss is nothing. You can say that the field has evened out to the point that any Big 10 team other than Rutgers can beat almost any other team. Indiana and Purdue almost beat the two big shots in the league, so cry about losing to Illini, but realize that Nebraska currently is closer to them than Ohio St based on skill players and talent.
  20. If he is an athlete, put him on the field. Find a spot for him. Sounds like good coaching if that happens. Sounds like what was left here in the cupboard was barish. This is a sign that what we have isn't good enough. What we have has been mislabeled along the way. Find some talent and get it on the field. That talent is doing no good sitting behind 4 other RBs. If the guy can rush the passer at DE, why not try it.
  21. Prediction Updated since Stevenson might have some action If Stevenson plays a few plays my prediction has changed some I think this game will come down to the 4th quarter and conditioning. Yes the more fit team will win. Its going to be near 90degrees on Saturday. Wisky's offense isn't as good as it has been. There defense might be better than it has been. If DPE plays more, and if Stevenson play, I think Nebraska wins 31-27. If DPE and Stevenson hardly play its different Wisky 27- 17 over Nebraska. IF we switch QB's at some point during the game, Nebraska wins. If any of these combo's work out, Nebraska wins. Wisky will score 27 points agains us. We have to outscore them in the 4th quarter.
  22. Past history of Riley tells you that his teams respond when playing better teams. He has coached teams to wins over Top 10 ranked teams. Neither Bo nor Callahan could ever do that. So I think given Riles record vs Top teams, this team could win 6 more games this season and play in a decent bowl game. Even though I seem to be fighting for Riley right now, I also don't know for sure if he can do what Pelini couldn't do. I don't know if Riles can lead Neb to a West Dv title. I don't know if he can win a piece of the Big 10 crown. I think any coaches first season should be viewed and looked at based on if the team improved thru out the season. This is Riles first Big 10 football experience. We all know that Big 10 football is different than Pac 12. Styles are different, talent level is different. Even though we all are unsure of Riles at this moment, we need to stay on board. Don't forget, 1992 I watched a monster team go to Ames and lose to Iowa St who was awful. Bad losses do happen. They happen to alot of really good teams every season. I think everyone here would admit that BYU and Miami are acceptable losses, not that we like them, but they weren't Iowa St either. Illini was a bad loss, but I think in the last few years, weve had these losses every season to someone. Win this weekend, erases that loss last weekend and maybe makes the season ahead look more optimistic. A loss this weekend, and the flood gates will open and we start losing all the players currently on hand and those looking at come to Neb next year.
  23. Elite as in Big 10 elite or national level? Ohio St won last year with passing and running. Elliot is an all-american that can change a game with one run. I think whats lost on people is that Neb doesn't have that talent level. Not even close. Talent level is average, and yes with average talent you should do things that play into there strengths, but still, average talent can't lineup and just blow guys off the line and gain 4 or 5 yards per carry. LSU has Fournette, best running back I have seen since maybe Adrian Petersen in the college game. Gains yards by himself. Elliiot is right there with him. 1a and 1b if your comparing what they can do for a team. Yes, winning the games in the Big 10 you should be able to run first. Green Bay however plays in maybe one of the worst weather areas for any football team and they pass the ball a lot, and win a lot. Stuck in time guys, stuck in time. If you want to be relevant, you have to have playmakers to run and catch the ball. If you want elite level recruits to even visit, you have to pass some and have a good QB system in place. Solich was ran out because he wouldn't change some from the option to a more standard offense. Remember Jamal Lord? He could run, he could run the option, but he couldn't hit an open receiver 10 yards away.
  24. Stephen Jackson played for Riley at Oregon St. Rogers brothers. These guys were NFL backs. Riley ran the ball with these guys. Run game is very important to Riley, but so far our RB's aren't lighting the world on fire. They have to block, and from what I have seen, blocking is not there from our current backs. Catch ball, and gain yards. Thats been weak. Passing is not a bad thing. I have watched so many teams pass first, then run or pass, pass and then run for 1st down with a thrid and short. The era has changed. Top recruits come from passing offensives in HS. If you want the best players available, you can't keep pounding the rock with option runs. That was Texas HS football in the 80's and 90's. That was then, this is now. Alabama may pound the rock, but had a WR who could stretch you deep. They throw the ball. Run sets up the pass, but comparing any school to Alabama is not quite fair. They get the best of the best on both sides of the ball.
  25. Clarify one thing: Expectations can be high and should be, but reality is, only 4 teams now get a shot and only one team will win it. This isn't the 80's and 90's when college football was ruled by OU, Neb, Miami and on occasion Florida St. Those were the teams that usually played for titles. Big 8 was almost guaranteed a spot in the title game. OU or Neb was that. The game has changed, the landscape has changed. At some point the fanbase has to change some to and realize that the good ol days are well in the past. This program never recovered from a legend retiring. The program was T.O.. Nebraska football was Tom Osborne.
