How far down the list did they have to go to get these two clowns. Get hired to come back to your school, become one of the worst, if not the worst coach in the history of the program, rumors swirling about bars/being too hungover to meet, and then you get asked to coach the Army All American game...cannot make it up!
Well, there's 42 bowl games, so the top 84 coaches are already coaching their own teams in bowls, so you have to go pretty far down the list to find someone available. (I'm assuming that a coach wouldn't/couldn't coach both)
-
We were 2-5 in one score games last year. With better coaching and attention to detail, I'd expect that to improve to 4-3. So, I'm going to go with 6-6 next year.

I think Enhance lays it out well in a few posts. I think the University and Athletic Department probably has language in their contracts that even being arrested for domestic violence is grounds for termination with cause.
Yeah, that's probably correct.

There is no sense any comments around when it’s ok for a man to “assault” a woman. That just should stop. Mickey has been placed on administrative leave, and it would make zero sense for Trev and Rhule to wait for the legal system to go through its process to retain Mickey as part of the new staff. Cut ties with Mickey, and hope that he can save whatever relationship he has with his wife and kids. If Mickey does end up being guilt of the crime, NU would be able to recoup the final 2 years on his contract, as he would he terminated for cause.
I wonder if she will ask the authorities to no press charges because of this.

Some recent reports talking about the reasoning mentioned how unorganized Wisconsin is in their recruiting department. It seems Cryst didn’t have a good plan in that area. I think he is a very good XO’s coach and definitely understands development, I would want to know what his recruiting plan would be and what lessons he learned from Wisky? Does he truly understand what wasn’t done well and what it should look like? I wonder if going to another school, like Alabama, as a staffer for a year or two would do him well. That would give him insight as to what he was neglecting previously and what to do next time.
Good points. He is probably not a candidate for the job, but if MJ stayed on as asst. HC/WR coach/recruiting coordinator, we could probably do worse.

An out of left field pick would be Paul Cryst.
9 year P5 coaching experience with 70% win percentage (not spectatular)
7 year big Ten coaching experience with 70 % win percentage (pretty darn good)
7-2 bowl record
Midwest roots.
I would say his firing at Wisconsin is very similar to Nebraska firing of Solich; meaning that in hindsight, it will not be seen as a good move.

I say 7-5
Beat Georgia Southern and North Dakota
5-5 the rest of the schedule.
IMO, this should be the minimum and still consider this a somewhat successful season.

So, now with these new NIL rules, can a college golfer play a few pro events, make money and still golf in college,
It's a little more complicated for golfers, as they have to keep their amateur status to play in college and to play in the big amateur events, like the US Amateur. The USGA has relaxed their rules to fit with NIL, however they can't receive prize money (can receive up to $750 in shop credit/gift certificate), nor can they make any money giving golf lessons, but they can receive money for being in advertisements, autographs etc.

These stats are interesting, but are skewed by the fact that we blew out 3 really bad teams.

I learned that we are now 3-9 in 1 possession games under Scott Frost (1-5 in 2018, 2-4 in 2019). If we just go 6-6 in those games, we finish each year 6-6 and a bowl bid.
-
Well, I guess it could happen. Illinois beat Wisconsin and we beat Illinois.

He's talking about the players
He may be talking about the players, but if the players want to stay, he can't really get rid of them. Well, he can get rid of them, but they can keep their scholarship and it still counts against the 85. In 2015 the power 5 conferences implemented a rule that a scholarship cannot be taken away for poor athletic performance.

Literally. No one.
Always good to hear from your friend in Iowa.
Well, I've lived in eastern Iowa for 25 years, so have a lot more friends in Iowa than Nebraska.

A friend of mine from Iowa just texted me calling Scott Frost the "Steve Alford of football coaches", meaning not having a good team, but never the fault of the coaches....ouch.

Nebraska finished Frost's first season at 4-2 for a .667 winning percentage, and the two losses coming to Ohio State and Iowa by a total of 8 points. We are now more than halfway through the 2019 season, and to match the .667 winning percentage we would have to finish 8-4 which is possible but unlikely. Nebraska has a much more favorable 2019 schedule than it had in 2018. There is much talk that culture is part of the problem, but there are fewer Riley guys on the 2019 team than we had on the 2018 team, so that does not seem to be a valid reason for regression.
If you believe this team has regressed in 2019 from where they ended 2018, why do you believe that has happened?
Because contrary to what Frost said would happen, the Big Ten has adjusted to Frost and his staff way faster than Frost and his staff have adjusted to the Big Ten.

The one thing that no one is giving credit (for lack of a better word) to the universities and NCAA for is that they provide the market for the players to showcase their abilities. Does anyone really think that there'd be 90,000 fans filing into memorial stadium on Saturday's if the team wasn't connected to the University of Nebraska? That has value to the players.
For the star player, this market helps them to become more valuable in the NFL draft. For the others, it provides them an education with an academic support system that some wouldn't graduate from college without. And for others, it provides them with opportunities and connections for employment after graduation that non athletes don't have.
I'm not saying I'm opposed to players being able to use their likeness to profit while in school, just saying I don't think the current system is as unfair as people are making it seem.

Heard an interesting conversation on this on the radio this morning. They were talking about how this could affect lesser watched sports. The commentator said that it could allow say a tennis player to give tennis lessons to kids and get paid. This currently is against the rules.
Stuff like that should be allowed and it's stupid that it's not.
I just hope that these kids realize that just because the NCAA allows it, doesn't mean it won't affect their amateur status. In golf that is a big thing if the student athlete wants to compete in amateur tournaments, which most do.

To be fair. To say that better players won't make a team better is a pretty bizarre take.

For me personally, I'm not looking to get back to where we were in the 90's, I'd just like to get to where Iowa and Wisconsin are; and they don't have any advantages in the areas that were brought up.

He had 5 passes and completed 2. It's not a large sample size, but he also didn't come in and go like 4 of 5 on his first drive for a TD.
He does that, I'll listen to QB controversy. But he struggled with the bad snaps and OL just like Martinez. He hit the one good pass down the sideline to Wandale to help win the game.
Not saying there should be a quarterback controversy, but to be fair, two of the incompletions were him wisely throwing the ball away.

We'd probably all do better to stop comparing our play, recruiting etc to the Ohio States of the world. Right now, I'd be pretty happy to be on the same level as Iowa/Wisconsin. Once we get there, we can look higher.

This isn't true. OSU took the ball every time they got it and ran for endzone glory like Heffernan showing the Peewee League how it's done. Our defense couldn't stop anything, anywhere.
Martinez was pretty bad though, with major contributions from the line that can't block and the receivers who can't separate from 4* DB's. The running game was the best thing we had going but it's not developed adequately yet.You are correct, I shouldn't have said the game was lost because of those 3 ints, we weren't winning this game no matter what; but they did pretty much take away any hope we had to keep it competitive.

1. He was scrabbling to his right.
2. He had to throw early due to pressure.
3. He was back peddling due to pressure.
2 int were bad throws, but this kid has lost confidence in his ol as he knows hes going to get hit.
I agree that he has lost his confidence; and my intention isn't to bag on AM. I want him to succeed. And I'm not arguing that our O Line isn't struggling. But this game was lost/stopped being competitive because of those 3 ints. And at worst, with a QB playing average to slightly above average, those three throw would have been 2 incompletions and a touchdown.
