  1. If it's an all out fight between all of them, I think you have to worry about alliances. Based on nothing but what the announcers say and the school he went to, I'd go with Fitzgerald for being able to kiss a$$ and take advantage.
  2. I had season tickets in 1999. I can remember 1995 versus KSU because of the block from Mike Rucker. I remember having the buzz of my life en route to the 2002 Colorado game we lost despite having scored on a deep TD pass (and I want to say we struck deep against Ole Miss in the bowl, too, but still lost). I remember 2006 versus Texas because of the Nunn fumble that gave the Whorns life. I remember 2008 Missouri for how bad the game was and that the Westboro folks were around with signs I didn't enjoy having to explain to my young child (going to his first Husker game that wasn't a Spring one, I think). I went to the final home games from 2014-2016 and mostly remember the hat, getting a picture with Goldie Gopher, and how cold it was (sequentially).
  3. On the whole, Iowa still has appreciably better stats than we do but you don't need those to tell that Nebraska is a much different team now (than the one some thought could have lost to Akron). Add in the fact that our own mistakes were largely our undoing in recent years against the Hawkeyes and I'm optimistic.
  4. Offensive rankings are below for all 124 FBS conference teams...
  5. Defensive rankings are below for all FBS teams in a conference...
  6. The overall rankings of all the FBS teams (that are in conferences) follows: All I did was average the average percentile figures for all nine categories I'm tracking to get these. I only take the average of the defensive and offensive category averages for the next two posts.
  7. I'm doing a poor job of explaining what I'm sharing. I take all the stats from conference games for 124 conference teams in the highest division and then compare the individual stats from all these categories (listed above) to national averages to get z-scores, which I then convert to percentiles. See below for how the B1G teams stack up relative to all those... Pass D Pass O Rush D Rush O Scoring D Scoring O Total D Total O Turnover Margin For SOS, I am taking the average of the average category percentile ratings (for teams a team has played) to develop this ranking... This means that Wisconsin is the first team on the list to have played the "worse-than-average" B1G teams overall. Strength of (Conference) Schedule We can sort of check this by looking at MSU's opponents: Indiana, Northwestern, Penn State, Michigan, Purdue, Maryland, and Ohio State vs. OSU's opponents: Rutgers, Penn State, Indiana, Minnesota, Purdue, Nebraska, and Michigan State
  8. I think I'll do a November-games-only version of this post once we're done but, for now, this is how we stack up with the next opponent in terms of all the B1G games we've played: Pass D completions per game: 23 (NU) to 10 (MSU) completion percentage: 67 to 50 yards per attempt: 48 to 82 touchdowns per game: 62 to 70 passer rating: 62 to 76 yards per game: 17 to 46 Pass O completions per game: 79 to 52 completion percentage: 87 to 4 yards per attempt: 68 to 8 touchdowns per game: 56 to 24 passer rating: 71 to 6 yards per game: 77 to 45 Rush D yards per game: 15 to 93 touchdowns per game: 3 to 91 yards per carry: 9 to 93 Rush O yards per game: 80 to 14 touchdowns per game: 85 to 17 yards per carry: 91 to 19 Scoring D touchdowns per game: 11 to 88 points per game: 10 to 87 Scoring O touchdowns per game: 76 to 12 points per game: 74 to 13 Total D yards per play: 18 to 88 yards per game: 8 to 87 plays per game: 15 to 55 Total O yards per play: 90 to 10 yards per game: 92 to 15 plays per game: 67 to 61 Turnover Margin fumbles gained per game: 70 to 70 interceptions gained per game: 69 to 69 turnovers gained per game: 76 to 76 fumbles lost per game: 32 to 32 interceptions lost per game: 59 to 32 turnovers lost per game: 45 to 24 turnover margin per game: 65 to 50
  9. The subject line should have "hypothetical" in it (or something along those lines). With the United Way mentioned and all, it's pure clickbait.
  10. I took a post I wrote from November 13th of 2017 and added the current percentiles to it in parentheses below: "Here are the percentile rankings for the Cornhuskers relative to stats from only the conference games played between FBS opponents to date this season: Pass D stats completions per game 78 (11) percentage 36 (56) yards per attempt 71 (42) touchdowns per game 83 (47) rating 66 (51) yards per game 88 (8) Pass O stats completions per game 75 (78) percentage 61 (84) yards per attempt 59 (64) touchdowns per game 66 (44) rating 59 (65) yards per game 78 (75) Rush D stats yards per carry 7 (17) touchdowns per game 10 (6) yards per game 11 (27) Rush O stats yards per carry 14 (80) touchdowns per game 9 (77) yards per game 12 (71) Scoring D stats touchdowns per game 17 (12) points per game 22 (9) Scoring O stats touchdowns per game 24 (61) points per game 24 (57) Total D stats yards per play 30 (19) yards per game 46 (8) plays per game 75 (15) Total O stats yards per play 48 (80) yards per game 40 (87) plays per game 34 (70) Turnover Margin stats fumbles gained per game 4 (30) interceptions gained per game 51 (50) turnovers gained per game 14 (37) fumbles lost per game 83 (34) interceptions lost per game 36 (65) turnovers lost per game 62 (51) turnover margin per game 30 (41) Average % for all these stats 43 (47)" p.s. - These were the final stats from last season: Pass D stats completions per game 32 percentage 12 yards per attempt 51 touchdowns per game 50 rating 35 yards per game 56 Pass O stats completions per game 77 percentage 48 yards per attempt 50 touchdowns per game 69 rating 45 yards per game 78 Rush D stats yards per carry 6 touchdowns per game 6 yards per game 16 Rush O stats yards per carry 16 touchdowns per game 20 yards per game 12 Scoring D stats touchdowns per game 10 points per game 12 Scoring O stats touchdowns per game 40 points per game 39 Total D stats yards per play 18 yards per game 27 plays per game 58 Total O stats yards per play 44 yards per game 42 plays per game 43 Turnover Margin stats fumbles gained per game 7 interceptions gained per game 37 turnovers gained per game 13 fumbles lost per game 96 interceptions lost per game 5 turnovers lost per game 42 turnover margin per game 19 Average % for all these stats 35
  11. He shouldn't be calling the press the enemy of the people and defending it, after violence against journalists, by saying it's the only way he can fight back. I get that some want to use a very narrow definition of treason but it seems likely DJT, at the very least, abetted it by not reporting what he knew about his people cooperating with foreigners to meddle in American elections. I get that federal investigations take a long time and this is a very complicated one but it baffles me that we don't have certain laws. E.g., if there's suspicion you gained the presidency by criminal means, you shouldn't be able to wield the power of that office until it's clear you're not compromised (e.g., beholden to a foreign power hostile to our nation). As Dave Chappelle said, "The stakes are too high in the White House!" Getting away from Trump, I agree with those who are saying this isn't all about him. We need to focus on what we all need and that's a government that will work for its citizens. It's too corrupt now and has been for a long time. "Money is speech" would fit in just fine alongside Orwell's famous ironies. People who read 1984 surely remember how it had endless war without any clear reason. Growing up in the eighties, I remember adults assuring us kids there would never be a nuclear war. Our kids today are asking the same questions we did. Sorry for the rambling but I didn't want to make just one flip comment about one party and check out of this forum.
  12. I figured we might get some action like that with the House changing hands but we all know the Dems are pussies.
  13. Ok, I'm failing at posting this stuff. I guess you just need to click on these images and you can zoom in... Here are the defensive ratings, based on four categories.
  14. Here are the rankings of all FBS teams now... I'm averaging the average percentile rankings for all the nine categories to get the overall ones below.
  15. Here are the B1G rankings by average percentile rating of stats within the categories listed: Pass Defense Pass Offense Rush Defense Rush Offense Scoring Defense Scoring Offense Total Defense Total Offense Turnover Margin Strength of Schedule (based on taking the averages of those averages listed above in this post for all the conference teams a team has faced this season) I keep trying to get rid of this extra table and it won't go away so please just disregard...
  16. It's tough to pick on the Illini so I'll just get right to it. As a reminder, the stats I'm calculating z-scores (and then percentiles listed below) for were from games between conference teams only. Nebraska's games against Colorado, Troy, and Bethune-Cookman haven't been included. That goes for all the teams listed in this thread. passing defense completions per game: 11th percentile (NU) to 56th percentile (Illini) percentage: 56 to 31 yards per attempt: 42 to 8 touchdowns per game: 47 to 6 rating: 51 to 11 yards per game: 8 to 21 passing offense completions per game: 78 to 18 percentage: 84 to 19 yards per attempt: 64 to 24 touchdowns per game: 44 to 27 rating: 65 to 18 yards per game: 75 to 16 rushing defense yards per game: 27 to 2 touchdowns per game: 6 to 2 yards per carry: 17 to 3 rushing offense yards per game: 71 to 93 touchdowns per game: 77 to 77 yards per carry: 80 to 99 scoring defense touchdowns per game: 12 to 2 points per game: 9 to 3 scoring offense touchdowns per game: 61 to 49 points per game: 57 to 57 total defense yards per play: 19 to 3 yards per game: 8 to 2 plays per game: 15 to 28 total offense yards per play: 80 to 85 yards per game: 87 to 63 plays per game: 70 to 13 turnover margin fumbles gained per game: 30 to 30 interceptions gained per game: 50 to 78 turnovers gained per game: 37 to 61 fumbles lost per game: 34 to 51 interceptions lost per game: 65 to 13 turnovers lost per game: 51 to 17 turnover margin per game: 41 to 34 EDIT: I had my calculated spread here but I forgot we're going to their house (so things didn't change as much as I thought they had). Pssht, Google was just misleading me so I do want to report I calculated a -10.5 for NU. If you google Nebraska football, it'll bring up the schedule and show Illinois listed second. I don't know why. I think my spread calculation could be improved if I was to look at how teams' stats improved over more recent games instead of taking the whole season into account also. It's obvious we're playing better football now, for example.
  17. Clearly, the answer is cloning. What has that biology department done for us lately? Get us another Spielman, FFS!
  18. For what it's worth, I calculated -17.5 for a spread. I just take the highest rankings for all nine categories I track and have that serve as a theoretical team playing the worst theoretical team (with the worst rankings). I set a dummy spread at -59.5 for the home team that has the best stats of all teams combined. With all that expressed, I don't bet teams with the kind of turnover margin and defensive numbers our team has posted (and I still usually lose money over the course of a season). Based on the conference game stats I have now, and without any adjustment for SOS, the calculated spreads for the rest of our games are (for s/g only): -7 at Illinois; +5.5 at MSU; and +7 hosting Iowa.
  19. I'm only using stats from games teams play against their conference mates (so we're talking about 5 games played by NU only). I try to divide figures by the number of games to keep as much relative meaning as I can. Only the passing defense category has even average numbers for the Blackshirts (aside from the yards allowed per game). I was surprised to see those Iowa figures, too, but still thought they were a safe bet (taking the points) against Penn State last weekend. The Wisconsin game was the real stunner, though. Even with Hornibrook (sp?) out, I thought the running game would wear the Cats down...

  23. I probably should have chosen my words better. I'm talking about FBS versus FCS (what used to be Division I versus Division II?). The stats I'm playing with are those garnered from games played by teams in the same conferences. If we stripped away half the teams in FBS (such that we'd be left with just the P5 ones), I wouldn't feel the need.
