  1. I wonder if Engelhaupt has second thoughts about flipping to Nebraska at the very end. He was locked and loaded to Wyoming. At the very least, he has his school paid for at UNL which is good.
  2. Agreed. His SNL skits were pretty funny. This one is my favorite...
  3. GIVE IT UP WISCONSIN. GIVE. IT. UP. CAPS LOCK FRIDAY. DROP THE HAMMER.
  4. I got a solid chuckle out of that story. Well played TO. Well played.
  5. This thread has become a late 80s/early 90s sports movie thread. Please adjust accordingly haha.
  6. Yeah Clayton is fantastic. I will always give baseball beat writers a pass for wanting games to get over quickly though. 4 hour baseball games are torture. I dunno, I might be going through some small sample size bias because I got caught up on the Extra Innings podcast Divish does with Larry Stone and in all 3 episodes I listened to, Divish came across like a whiner. I will say this, he does throw some good snark when someone gets overly idiotic especially when it comes to personal attacks on him.
  7. Yeah, I agree with that take. At the same time, I don't know if it's a McKewon thing or a local paper guy take. I follow the Mariners religiously and their writer, Ryan Divish comes across the exact same way, especially on Twitter. It makes sense through their lens as their industry is in serious decline and frankly it's a tough industry in terms of transferring to do something else. I would guess it's either do this or go teach somewhere if you want to say in the industry. The space is incredibly crowded and super competitive. Now, if I were in his shoes would I choose to come across like a smug know-it-all? No, because people buy from people they like (Sales 101). But, I understand why he would feel threatened. As for Lee, he's just washed. Ain't no changing him lol.
  8. Ahhh, this is going to be hopefully just delicious. I did like when the OWH writers would do live chats once a week or so for 1 hour a pop. I'm surprised they got rid of them, especially given the fact they need subscribers. Granted, you could argue that having the majority of the writers doing a weekly hit with Severe takes care of that.
  9. Would love to see him at Nebraska but I agree with @Warrior10 here. This dude has USC or UW written all over him.
  10. That's an interesting way of looking at it. I'm not sure I would invest in Nebraska right now as I think it's probably overvalued and will come back to earth and then I would be a buyer again. Now, I would've bought heaps of NU stock after the Iowa game...man that would've been rad.
  11. @Old Nebraska Guy, @broganreynik is correct. It's from the movie Blue Chips which came out in the early 1990s.
  12. I'm only doing that if you pay me $100 dollars
  13. Agreed. I'll still watch at least a part of it every time it comes on. Geez between Blue Chips and The Program you would've thought every single big time college program was dirty AF. Thing is...they probably were/are.
  14. Pretty good landing spot all things considered. Assuming Jimbo brings his offense from FSU, he carried a couple fullbacks on the roster. Miles could possibly fill a similar role that Johnathan Vickers did for FSU which was a hybrid fullback/TE position over his career. I hope Miles is able to excel down at College Station.
  15. Maurice needs to call this guy for help in doing well on standardized tests.
  16. Clones have really cranked up their RB game under Campbell. Warren and Montgomery are damn fine RBs and this kid looks pretty darn good as well.
  17. I'd be pleasantly surprised if the Rangers traded Hamels within the division. He'd be a great pickup for the stretch run as his contract is pretty friendly. He's owed $20mm this year and has a $20mm team option next year or a $6mm buyout as there is zero chance he hits his vesting option. The great thing is, because Hamels is 34 going on 35 he's going to command next to nothing for prospects which is great for the Ms because they have wait for it....next to nothing in terms of prospects. That being said, they do have cash to spend and they aren't going to hit the luxury tax threshold. Some more fun reading about this can be found here... https://www.lookoutlanding.com/2018/6/29/17519604/about-those-cole-hamels-to-the-mariners-rumors-trade-rumor-season-2018
  18. I tend to believe it's probably about the same. Granted, I have no real basis for my statements outside of the occasional articles that pop up like the bag man one from a couple years ago and watching "Pony Excess" on ESPN. I would imagine if we followed a lot of big time football players social media, we'd probably see some stuff that would make us question, "Ok...how did they get their hands on XYZ?"
  19. I'm hard pressed to think of a team that has been this bad offensively since this year's Royals. They haven't scored 5 or more runs in 19 straight games and have only scored 5+ runs, 5 times in the last month. It's a shame because their starting pitching has seemed to get a fair bit better and it's going to waste. Definitely has to be frustrating when the other team scores 3 runs and you know the chances are pretty high you're going to lose.
  20. Yeah it appears next years WR class is lacking a bit. I'd probably throw Collin Johnson from Texas on there and the list definitely needs Marquise Brown from OU on it.
  21. Yup, there is almost zero correlation with 1 run games and how good a team is. The Mariners are definitely running way above expectation in that department. Their run differential is also way, way, wayyyy below the other 3 teams in the AL. https://www.teamrankings.com/mlb/stat/run-differential Now, you could argue a little bit that the Ms play in the toughest division so their run differential should be lower (this excludes the Astros of course, who are built like the Death Star). The Ms next stretch of games where they play the Orioles, Royals, Angels and then go to Colorado will tell me a lot. They should, in theory beat up on those teams a bit (Baltimore and KC especially). While I don't expect a +100 run differential like NYY, Boston and Houston if the Ms could get close to where Cleveland is which is in the +60 range, that would be pretty great. With all that being said, sometimes the baseball gods simply deem one team to run way above expectation, the 2016 Rangers won 95 games and had a MINUS 4 run differential and the 2012 Orioles won 90+ games while having a +5 RD. It appears (hopefully) the Ms are this years team. The nice thing was as tough as this last stretch of games was, the Ms only dropped 1.5 games to the Angels in the WC standings. This next month is absolutely massive for Seattle has they play the Angels 9 times. If the Ms can rip off another 6-3 or better stretch, they can really bury LAA. LAA also has a handful of games against the Dodgers who are butaning right now and the always tough Astros.
  22. Yup, pretty much agree with everything above @Savage Husker I saw a stat that teams that have led by 5 runs or more are something like 410-30. The Mariners found a way to lose 2 of those games in 3 days. The bullpen should hopefully get a little more shored up once Nick Vincent gets his feet underneath him and Altavila comes back from injury. I will be curious if they're buyers for another SP but with their lack of prospects, it'll have to be a salary dump methinks.
  23. Well said @brophog For what it's worth, I really like the guy they hired to be HC in Smith. That being said, if he wasn't a QB at Oregon State...I wonder if he would've gone there as he was in a pretty good spot at UW under Peterson.
  24. This just in: Chris Sale is really good at pitching a baseball. Welp, the toughest stretch of the schedule for a while is over and the Mariners all and all didn't do too badly. If you would've told me the Ms would go 7-8 with games at Houston, home to LAA and Boston and then going to NYY and Boston I probably would've taken it. They need to get back to their winning ways and having Baltimore and KC up next provides a good way to do that.
