  1. Out of curiosity, how many people from that part of the world do you know? Zero. My opinion of what people from the Mideast think of Americans is pretty much based on what I see on the news and the relative ease they seem to have recruiting terrorists that hate us enough to do what they do. I am equally sure there is a contingent of people that appreciate some of what the US stands for and represents. I am not saying that you are not right or that your relatives accounts are questionable. It just strikes me as being a lot more fair and level headed than what usually comes from that section of the globe.
  2. They don't care about "our politics." They want to be a sovereign nation without U.S. meddling. That's a U.S. foreign policy issue, not internal politics. They don't have an axe to grind with Obama any more than they would with Romney or Bush. I have family in Cairo. The Egyptians are more pissed about the manufacturer's name on the canisters of teargas the police are using than the name of the guy in the Oval Office. And they don't dislike the American people one bit. When I said our "politics" I meant our foreign policy as regards their country and that part of the world. Of course they aren't interested in our internal politics. I agree that it doesn't matter if it's Obama, Bush, Romney or whoever. That was the point of what I posted. However, I find it a little surprising that whoever made that sign in your picture is able to differentiate between Joe Blow American and our governmental leaders. If that is truly the case, the Egyptian people would be vastly different than the majority of the Middle East Muslim countries. Yeah, I know they are actually located in NE Africa....
  3. Maybe if we pretend that the Egyptian people are happy with our politics, then things will get better. Unfortunately, it isn't just our President that they are unhappy with and critical of. I would bet they don't differentiate between me, you, Obama, Dems, or Repubs. BTW, I wasn't all that excited, more like bored and burning up a little time before calling it a weekend.
  4. Now I went and did it.

I've been wanting to change for awhile. I put it off cuz the old one seemed to bother "someone" so it was worth the delay.

I really wanted to go with TO but didn't want to wallow in your shadow.

  5. I get the feeling that the average Egyptian on the street isn't impressed with the Obama administrations position on their country.
  6. Sorry, I was ignoring the "pregame" qualifier and just went with football traditions. And Bucky, ESFU doesn't qualify on any level except bad taste and crude behavior.
  7. What adjustments can he make though? Ones that would not allow guys to be in position? That's where I'm lost in this whole deal from an x's and o's standpoint. Everyone preaches adjustments this, adjustments that, but what more can the guy do? Honestly? The physical and mental development-or lack there of-is on him yes. No argument here. But at some point, guys have to have the want-to and/or tenacity to make a one-on-one play. Bo had guys that could, he has now had guys that couldnt. So obviously right now, a conclusion can be made than niether is indicative of his abilities. That's a very good question that I had not fully considered. I'm not a big X's & O's theory type of guy but I've got to believe there are things they can do scheme wise that could reduce the damage done when one guy doesn't make the play. Maybe some tweaks that will put more people in helpside positioning. IDK, I guess nothing will work if guys don't make the play that they are in position to make. I guess that's when it's time to get some new guys on the field and see who really wants it more. However, I do think it all starts up front and Bo has to get that DL making some plays. If/when the play breaks down at that point, everyone behind those guys is at a disadvantage. I just cannot take another season of watching our DL bumble around ten steps behind every play. I hate to pick on any one guy when it's a team effort but I will not miss watching Meredith waddle into the screen five seconds late. He's my poster boy for what has ailed our D.
  8. I won't attempt to re-order these but I would replace a few with others. Delete- Running Ralphie (if you want to be listed in traditions, don't suck so bad) The Tennessee T (I was not even aware of this one) The Auburn tiger walk (lame). Add- Tennessee singing Rocky Top (loved that at the 97 Orange Bowl-awesome) Sooner Schooner Tie for Wiscy's drunken jump around and Ohio State Band script Ohio dotting the i thingy that they get so touchy about.
  9. I'll partially agree with the assessment that it's not an X's & O's problem. Yes, we had guys in the right position often and they just plain failed to make the play. So, in a sense, that is not Pelini's fault. But, when it happens time after time after time, it is Bo's job to make the adjustments that allows our defense to be successful. It might've been a great scheme but, if we don't have the talent/athletes to make it effective, then it's the wrong scheme to be using. I am hopeful that maybe this year we will have the guys to make it work but even more hopeful that, if it doesn't work, that Bo has some tweaks that will make it a much more serviceable D.
  10. ^^^This. The blitzes have seemed few and far between because recently that has been the only way we can generate pressure. If the DL can generate some on their own, that will be a huge step for this D. Then, when we do bring a blitz, it will have that desired "oh sh#t" effect. A blitz is supposed to overload the offensive protection scheme, not makeup for lack of DL push and lack of speed. Hopefully we will be athletic enough to use the DL and blitzes in the proper manner.
  11. You're contradicting yourself. Either these monuments are a violation of the first amendment (I do not believe they are) and should not be allowed from any group or religion or, they are not a violation and do not constitute a "religion endorsement" and therefore should be allowed from any group/religion. Near as I can tell, and as evidenced by this news, any group/religion can place their "shrine" in a public space. The simple fact that atheists or other religions have not done this before or more widespread has no bearing on the fact that the Ten Commandments in a public area does not equate to endorsement of a religion by our government. You might want to read those bits in the founding documents a little closer. The problem is when government limits the citizens rights to practice their religion (any religion) they see fit. You would have to show me specific wording that indicates simply being exposed to another's religion in a public space constitutes any type of violation. Don't confuse being exposed to a majority view as somehow infringing on your rights. OK, so it could represent one of two religions. And that's not a violation of the first amendment how? The much better and more pertinent question is; How is it a violation of the first amendment? It doesn't matter if the 10 Commandments are representative of 1, 2, or 100 religions. The only time it would be a problem is if some entity decreed that Religion #A can have access to public space but Religion #B cannot. The mere fact that other religions do not place their items in public has no bearing on it. Seems you are a little rankled to be subjected to Christian things in a predominately Christian country so you want to call it some sort of violation. The atheists put their bench/monument in a public space and I am happy for them. They, and any other group/religion can do this all they want and it won't bother me a bit. Why does it bother you when it happens to be the Ten Commandments?
  12. So, let me get this straight, atheists put a bench (monument) right next to a granite slab Ten Commandments (monument).???? So, hypothetically they put this useful bench in a location that Christians could use while taking a break from visiting the Christian monument. I guess I don't know what to say..........thanks. What's next? The atheists going to start selling Bibles to raise more money for benches?
  13. ^^^That. I'm with you. Is it really constructive for 90% of these threads to devolve into the W-L record and then start speculating on Bo's status? Swear to God I'll rabbit punch the next person that suggests we fire a coach after a 9 or 10 win season. I hate the blowout losses as much or worse than the next guy but we go through the Solich-Callahan debacle again over my dead body. Edit- I take no responsibility for changing my mind after the next blowout loss.
  14. You're right, but unfortunately that's the only basis for the hope this D is going to be better. It's entire foundation is based on "they can't be as bad as last year". Otherwise, there isn't much historically that would make someone think this will be a better team. How often do you graduate almost an entire squad and improve? Rarely. Not saying it won't happen, but I think Husker fans are going on blind faith and a lot of hope right now. My concern is that if this D is 1 mental mistake away from giving up 6 on any given play (which was obvious and confirmed last year and in years past numerous times)...who do you think will be making more mental mistakes, a team primarily comprised of seniors...or a team of freshman/sophomores. This might work at other places, but if Bo sticks to his system...it's not looking good for us. We've been talking for the last 3 years about how kids have finally been in the system a while and understand the D, and that's why we are going to be better. Why would anyone think that no longer applies....because it doesn't fit our current situation? Of course you are right. I am simply stretching to stay positive. We are definitely thin on experience and "knowing the system". However, all indications would suggest that our recruiting in these areas has increased the talent level and potential rather significantly. Bo might just have to break down and make do with what he has rather than waiting 5 years for the players to finally fit into his mold. I love Bo but one of my biggest exasperations with him has been a system that totally breaks down with one missed tackle or one mental mistake. I'm gonna be all goofy optimistic again and hope that maybe Bo will tweak the framework so they can be successful with less experienced guys. Youth aside, I've got to believe we'll be improved at speed, talent, & toughness. Those things can sure help hide some mental/experience issues.
  15. I understand what you are saying and somewhat agree. But, to put a positive spin on it, we don't need an excessive amount of talent or such to improve over what we had last year. Maybe I'm a bit too hard on our D these last couple of years and maybe I'm being a little too optimistic but, is there anyway possible we don't improve at LB & DL? I shudder to think that it won't be much better regardless these two departures.
  16. Could someone list their names from left to right? The only guy I recognize is TM.
  17. How cool would it be to have a pipe organ in your home. I would learn how to play that song from Rollerball and then we would partay. Yeah, we'd probably end up burning down trees in the neighborhood.
  18. For some reason whenever I see Brown & Suttles, I think of Flatt & Scruggs. Yeah I'm old and possibly a bit weird.
  19. I'm confused as to why anyone would throw a party label in front of a search for "voter fraud." Is it only bad when it's done by the party that you aren't affiliated with? Well, I did it only because you had mentioned "democrat voter fraud" prior. To answer your question, I suppose someone might do that when attempting to find examples of it from one specific side of the aisle. That doesn't necessarily mean they only find the behavior from one side unacceptable. I think it's a bit natural when people start attacking the issue like it's onesided to look for equal opportunity on the other side.
  20. This probably doesn't belong here since I doubt it is on Netflix yet but the movie Rapture-Palooza was very funny. Warning- if you're a believer and are easily offended when religion is poked fun at, you might not want to watch. I believe it's an indie that is currently in theatres. We got it OnDemand on cable. I thought it was worth the $7 and was laughing through most of it. It pushed it right to the limit for me with the sacrelig stuff but I'm not easily offended.
  21. Sorry, posting on droid and hit post again because it didn't seem to go first time.
  22. Well I'll say it, losing two potential contributors like this is not a good thing but I am excited that some of the new blood will have a better chance to see the field. Our LB and DL units have been less than stellar the past two seasons. Time for some of these exciting recent recruits to accept the challenge and be rewarded with real playing time. I don't think we can be in any worse shape now, even after losing these two, than what we were with the guys who got most of the play time last year. Losing Compton will hurt some but if these two were our best and brightest hopes, it wasn't going to be pretty anyways.
  23. As an experiment, I googled "republican voter fraud". Got about a page and a half of hits dominated by msnbc and huffington post links. No, I'm not surprised.
