  1. I've got a feeling, it's a financial move. More big paying programs will schedule them if they FBS the FCS!
  2. I, also, think Cav is a good coach BUT 2017 will be an important year for Cav.
  3. History has shown, we need 2+backs. keep the touches around 15 max and the injuries don't seem to be as debilitating. everytime we have a back who averages in the 20's for carries, they get nicked up and we see production fall off the map.
  4. MR has my confidence. I like the way the guy operates. loyal but with a message; improve or your out. MR was loyal to banker but told him, improve. Banker didn't and got showed the door. I'm betting Cav has heard from the boss about the line play. The WO's seem to be waiting for a QB to see how they do. Running backs are average and need a good line. The defense might take some time to gel. huskers couldn't seem to get a DE and thats the way the 4-3 works. i never paid enuff attention to special teams; but believe now that a good special teams coach can make a difference. he can work with young linemen and other talented fast guys when they can't seem to get into the top couple units. most teams tell offensive linemen, if you can't make the special team line, you'll never play!
  5. I like TT. but; can see the point where he may need to go on to smaller school, for seasoning!
  6. good, smart hire! MR strikes again!
  7. can't help thinking if we'd of had an accurate throwing QB, how we might have benefited, all around!
  8. I think Tanner Lee holds MR's future in his hands. He seems to be the only QB ready to play and if he can't put on a decent showing, that will impact this program severely. POB would be the man, asked to come in and stop the bleeding. Red shirt freshman that can do that, are hard to find! I'm a MR fan and like the way he handles the program. He was put in a bad spot coming into this job and has done as well as any available coach could have.
  9. 50 yard FG are normal- now 60 is long!
  10. Just thinking out loud. i personally like MR and staff. wouldn't Bray be much better off staying for at least a year to get some seasoning on the 3-4? never hurts to have multiple types of defensive sets on your resume. hope he stays.
  11. I'm sorta shocked that MR had to go clear to the east coast for a defensive guru; he coulda just posted on this board and a dozen highly qualified applicates would have been on his doorstep, that evening unless, he needed them quicker. even the most harsh MR hater would've changed 180 degrees if offered a job as king of the blackshirts!
  12. lots of you history buff don't remember the storm in 68 when devaney went thru his second 6-4 season. might wanna ask craig bohl about turmoil on the coaching staff, when he worked for osborne. numerous guys didn't have contracts renewed. part of college football coaching.
  13. It's hard to promote from within. jealousy runs rampant. Frank fought that problem when TO promoted him. All the other assistant coaches, knew his weaknesses and if the promoted guy doesn't address them, which most don't, it starts the pot boiling before the first game. Everyone has weakness's, including TO and MR. MR took this job with his eyes wide open. He knew he HAD to win. He has to make adjustments/improvement or be shown the door! As long as he shows improvement every year, i'll back MR. 2018 schedule is looming and it could really be a tuff one, but that's why we hired him to be good in both the easy and hard seasons!
  14. every jr high and high school kid saw that they could be the difference maker, that takes the huskers up. I support MR and all of his staff.
  15. Getting rid of a QB who didn't fit the mold; has to help. he was good if he could run but got nicked up too much to continue to run. couldn't throw an accurate pass. The line play will tell the biggest story; both offensive and defensive. move nick gates back to right tackle. if we can't get defensive ends; we might have to change defense structure.
  16. To be considered a good option QB, the abiltiy to run and stay healty is paramont! Martinez could run but fell victum to in the injury bug. Sorta what worries me about armstrong but i will say that tommy is very strong willed (tuff) you may have to drag him off the field and chain him to a good post to keep him from going back in. last years purdue game is very fresh in his mind. to me, that was the day, that tommy decided to become a QB.
  17. Fyfe with Darlington as back up. those 2 will be our best shot. This situation is why that AJ Bush leaving was such a big deal and is also why they are recruiting more QB's in the class of 2018. Not anything against POB but most high profile QB recruits need 2 years in a college system to learn how to play QB. You can't survive on natural ability like high school. Tanner Lee will be in the middle of the 2017 battle. If POB is our starting QB in 2018; he will take us far!
  18. I had no idea who he was when he was hired but the first day he spoke, i started to pay attention. Now, i can't imagine who we could have hired that would have fit our program and our state better then MR!
  19. slim at OT for sure! on the other end, our wide receiver core is top notch.
  20. I just read his first team preseason all big ten selections. looks like the huskers talent level needs some additions!
  21. If tommy plays up to snuff, he will take us along ways. darn if he just keeps the turnovers down to .5 per game, it'll take us along ways. not to say we don't have some other ???marks. What really stands out, is i believe he has the talent, i think it mostly mental. The coaching he received for most of his career wasn't up to what he has now, but old habits diehard!
  22. frank had lots of weakness's. but was a nice guy who shoulda stayed in an assistants role.
  23. badly; frank never figured out how to recruit. and he wouldn't fire the problem assistants who were his friends. he fired the coaches who told him he was screwing up! Frank's true colors were displayed where no other power five program even looked at him as a viable candidate for any openings. Frank is in his element where he's at now.
