  1. It varies based upon state, federal prison or jail, etc. but let's get real, even $1000 and a bus ticket in no way prepares anyone who just missed out on 30 years of outside life to be reinserted into society. You can knit pick the details but our prison system doesn't work. http://thinkprogress.org/justice/2015/06/21/3667851/like-walk-jail-alone/
  2. No, not really. If something sounds unlikely, google it to see what the truth is. Can't say for sure this link is accurate, but it's more believable than what you claim. http://americanradioworks.publicradio.org/features/hardtime/gatemoney/ Someone released from a California jail gets $200 and transportation. I would assume they also get a parole officer and a place at a halfway house to at least give them a chance to get going. I'm sure there are many stories to be told about those things being no help at all, but it's not $5 and a bible.
  3. Very sad to hear this news and I agree with what everyone here seems to be saying. I also have to add our prison system is very messed up with over-crowding, long sentences, little to no hope, lack of rehabilitation, and I think in the end this all added up to Lawrence taking his own life. I don't condone anything he's done but it's tough for me to sit here and judge him as I have never come close to anything he's experienced in his childhood or life. We too easily forget about those who "break the law" or are sent off to jail as they are out of sight and out of mind. I'm still floored to this day that a prisoner who serves say 30 years, is finally let out and given a bus ticket, $5 and a think a bible. Really?
  4. Amen brother! Couldn't agree more. Used to have 5 games within driving distance of a few hours and now one. Sucks. And sad.
  5. Exactly this. It's unbelievable people are blaming Tommy for our loss yesterday or others during the season. This is squarely on a coaching staff that is asking a QB with tremendous running capabilities to pass the ball when everyone knows this is not his skill set. If Tommy was handing the ball off, running the option and occasionally a pass or two were added to the mix, we win vs. Iowa and probably a few more games as well this season.
  6. This. I am just as happy and excited for the win last night and extremely proud of the players and glad they got this win, on national TV much less and knocked off MSU as well. Amazing. But if you were a poster who for the last 8 weeks didn't like Riley and his staff and were calling for them to be fired, this changes very little. To see some posters acting like this is a new beginning and everything is fine now, makes no sense. As GOAT says above, mental errors by our staff almost cost us another game. I am truly hoping this win does turn things around but unless they win out and make a bowl game, then I won't be changing my attitude towards Riley and his staff. He did this every year at OSU and I am not sure trading a coach who got 9 wins every year with a couple of blow-outs for a coach who loses 5 games or more with a signature win is much of an improvement. I think we all need to take a deep breath, dance a little joy over last night's game, and then see how the last two turn out.
  7. I'm on the fire Riley wagon but if they win out and show what they did tonight I'll gladly change my attitude. Great win!
  8. Bad call but MSU got lucky against Michigan so this is karma! what's up with that kick though? why do that instead of kicking it out of end zone? another bonehead coaching call or ???
  9. Played hard and you could tell the fight was there but once again coaches f'ed us up a few times:(
  10. There's nothing to worry about, remember our AD says Riley knows what he's doing (sarcasm).
  11. These last two plays show why there is little hope with this coaching staff.
  12. The shots of Riley on the sidelines are priceless. He looks like he could be sitting in the stands eating a hot dog.
