  1. Obama was given a Nobel peace prize before he was even in office and look what that means. The Nobel awards are given out by liberals to liberals. When there are that many in the U.S. alone, it means very little. Could someone even list 3 of Hillary Clinton's great new ideas for helping to revive the economy? We are now approaching 8 years of uninterrupted economic doldrums with the Fed once again keeping interest rates near zero! With the pedal to the metal (that is what having no interest for savings in this country means essentially in economic terms) and we have basically 'flatline' activity, the liberals in charge of anything is just plain dumb. Most recent news report of last few days showed once again wages were down and inflation up meaning workers are still going backwards financially. Social security recipients have been without any meaningful inflation adjustment since Obama took office. After 7 years of no adjustments while inflation has been in the rate of 3 to 4% annually the real economic impact has been a cut of about 25% in social security benefits to the seniors. At the same time, workers have seend massive increases in the tax burden over the same period with increases of thousands of dollars per year in property, sales, excise, income and other taxes. The bottome line is the standard of living for most Americans has declined precipitously while the Dems are driving the bus. One should also add that the true economic inflation has been much higher as we have seen health care insurance and costs generally skyrocketing at more than 10% per year and compounded around 85% in just the past 7 years. Reports are that many premiums for Obamacare are going up from 20 to as much as 65% in January! People are dropping out of the insane program by the millions and while the program was sold as 'health insurance for all', fewer than 15 million of our 300 million have ever been enrolled. And to put icing on the cake, in about 60 days, all small and medium sized businesses will now have to comply for their workers. We all know that jobs aplenty are being adjusted to less than 30 hours a week as that is the threshhold for mandatory coverage. Simply stated, liberal economics (I really don't consider anything the liberals come up as being 'economic') are a joke.
  2. The absolute absence of players (numbers alone) in the O line is the primary issue in my view. I think the guys we have playing are mostly walking wounded and giving their best. But we have no subs and the fatigue and pain factors are just limiting any possible success. I think we'd see dramatic 'improvement' in our RBs and our passing game in stats, yards, points, etc. IF we had better line play. We have way too may little or no gain runs and far too many desperation scrambles and passes into intense pressure, etc. Often there is not enough time for Tommy to go thru his progressions and reads and truly wait for the receivers to come open. This can largely be traced back to an inexperienced, insufficient and inadequate line. The guys are playing hard and give great effort and sometimes make reasonable good plays. We've seen dramatic 4th quarter efforts from them, but that was pre-injury issues mostly and before the season put wear and tear across the WRs and RBs too. The offense has been beat up lately. That is simply disrupting and ruining 'execution' (that term nobody likes to hear). In this season, it is true. The offense has been through hell. The defense has seemed to stay pretty healthy relatively speaking. We need a bunch of new recruits. I think I'd suggest we take atleast 6 this year and a couple three walk ons would be welcome as well. Without a line, O J Simpson driving a white Ford Bronco would have troubles getting far.
  3. My God the radical leftists on this board! Where on Earth did you acquire such socialist/communist ideas? Sanders? Warren (she's got to be about as old as Clinton and nuttier)? Biden is a another reprobate with women but atleast not so radical left. The best candidate by a country mile was Ted Cruz and Rubio was a strong second. That would have been a great ticket. I am hopeful, should Trump pull this thing out as the trends suggest, that Ted Cruz will be our next Attorney General. He has some serious prosecuting to do as Hillary and Bill and a bunch of their associates have some accounting to do. The Rico statutes will apply and I would hope to see that entire Clinton foundation seized as ill gotten booty and used for some real charitable work. Trump has some redeeming values as he will certainly break up the special interests' grip on our federal government and the Congress. I am fairly confident he will be a fairly calm and steady leader once the heat of the electoral battle is over but of course the media attacks will be unending so who knows. He does have a sort of Bo Pelini temper it seems.
  4. While I think it is certainly possible we play well enough to even win, I would say, if we stay within 21 we'll be doing well. If we played 10 times, the average Ohio marin of victory would be around 18. Our offense is just not functioning at a very high level right now. I think three weeks ago, we could stay within about 13 or so but now we are not playing well enough in my view. Too many injuries and we are too predictable and have apparently run out of new ways to move the ball and score. I still feel we might win once in ten tries. They are better than Wisconsin by a couple scores or more and we played them as well as we can reasonably expect and fell short by 6. One can't argue we deserved to win although we played well enough to win with just a little bit more help from the refs. I recall Wisconsin having only about 1 or 2 penalties for not much effect on the game. We should have had a couple pass interference and holdings as well which would have really helped our cause.
  5. LOL LOL LOL Seal clubbing! That is gut ripping funny right there! Thanks commando - I needed a great laugh. The term is so appropriate and funny at the same time. Hard to laugh so hard about the Huskers getting whipped but ! Thanks.
  6. Indeed there are many season goals and objectives thare remain possible for this team but let us all be realistic here. We are less likely to defeat Ohio State than Wiscy and I think if one goes back to the preseason predictions on this board, one would find only a small handful of 'win them all' forecasts. Most expected us to lose to Oregon, Wiscy, Ohio State and a couple others mixed in as well. I think we might well lose just two in the regular season and that has to be cheered as a dramatic step forward, especially IF we can keep this next game reasonably close (under 20 points would be a good job in my view - don't bite my head off for this but we are beat up, tired, traveling, and the Buckeyes are still playing for a chance at all the marbles too). We don't need this one to make the CCG if those badgers drop one and NW might just outscore them with a better offense. That would give Wiscy three losses and Iowa will have as many as we do as well. Don't count us out. We can win our games after Saturday night I am confident if we can get people healed up for the final stretch. That CCGame will be a 'wild card' and on any given Saturday night in the Big Ten, it can happen. We don't play for the national title with two losses but then again, you never know what can hapen as maybe the Big Ten champs will look better than a two loss Big 12 or two loss Pac 10 or two loss SEC team. Never say never anymore. Just win our winnables and get one big shot at the Big Ten East champs. In a one game play-off like that, who knows?
  7. Literally no one would do that... Uh, I would. I have always strongly disagreed with this 'logic' of deferring the choice in OT to have the ball last. The ONLY time I see it works to your advantage is IF the oppoent fails to score (which is not very often actually). Then it becomes easy to simply try to lay up for a good FG kick to win by 3. I think it depends on the game and how both teams match up. In last night's game, I would take the ball first if I am NU and we won the toss and could go on offense first. Why? because I would compare kickers. Obviously advantage Huskers last night as Badgers kicker missed both the game winning FG and his OT extra point kick. Assuming Huskers take the ball first and don't get a first down on our opening OT offensive series, just kick the almost autormatice 3 with Drew Brown. That 3 point lead becomes a serious concern to Wisconsin who then needs to be ultra careful not to blow their field goal option on their opening series. They become cautious playing again not to lose by laying up to get their best shot to match the field goal. Certainly they would like to make a TD but will call plays with the worry that if they do nothing else, they need to get a good FG shot for sure. I always prefer to play with the lead vs the deficit on the score. To me, the mental edge favors the team that is ahead. Any lead feels better than a deficit IMO. I think whoever takes the ball first in OT has the advantage because they are not playing from behind and any score puts pressure on the opponent as opposed to simply giving them some kind of heads up as to what they 'need' to do. Every team 'needs' to score a TD if they can or a FG if not because most teams with a good kicker will get 3. But not Wisconsin presumably.
  8. QBs who are not a serious threat to make plays with their legs (Tommy vs. Fyfe for example) are much easier to defend. Of course, if you have all American wide outs and a NFL calibler thrower, you will find a lot of success even with Payton Manning back there. But a great defense (think Payton Manning at Tennessee vs. Nebraska in the bowl game, for example) gets ugly. Certainly, there are very few Payton Mannings and Nebraska's never had one and I dare say Riley's probably not had many either. However, the biggest asset that a QB like Tommy brings to the table is sack avoidance and loss avoidance. I am sure one could review all the film from our first 8 games and count up probably as many as 40 or more plays where Tommy avoided what wiould have been a drive killing QB sack for loss. We have had dam few because he is dam hard for even the best pass rushers to catch before he runs for yards or throws it away or even better buys time and finds a receiver to make a real positive play with. Payton Manning or Bret Favre could NOT do this. Now in the NFL they pass block with offensive lines who are the best money can buy. They also expect to throw some away but never do they expect Payton Manning to scramble for a 20 yard game winning TD! In Lincoln, we do. Next year we will experience what I am deathly afraid will be the worst of both worlds when we (according to most on this Board anyway) have to sit back and enjoy Tanner Lee (third string 'star' of Tulane I recall) take the snap and get swallowed up by the overwhelming pass rush of most teams we play. Our O line will have to make huge strides from where it is now certainly. Personally, I hope and pray I am wrong but without ANY QB experience next year and without any apparent 'dual threat' (I define to be RB skills with a decent passing and 6'-3 and 225 or bigger), I predict we will NOT have a winning season. Yes, I hate to say it but realistically, our top I Back will be Ozigbo (I really like, followed by Bryant and Wilbon). Because they didn't win the starting job this year, it is arguable that these guys ARE NOT all conference caliber. We should have an all conference RB EVERY freeking year!!! IMO. We have perhaps the best package of receivers in the post championship era (last 20 years right) yet we are not really considered a strong passing offense. Why? Because we don't pass protect and our passer is not hitting the open receivers often enough to seriously scare defenses into playing the pass respectfully enough. They cheat on the run and literally dare us to throw on them. Why? Because they believe we are not accurate enough and we don't pass block well enough and Tommy does not find the open receivers often enough. Lets all hope POB or Tanner turn out to be mobile and sack avoidance capable or wins will be hard to come by in 2017.
  9. This is exactly my feeling. I think in crunch time you have the ball in the best players' hands. In our case, that is Tommy A and Ozigbo in the ground game and Westy and Morgan in the air game. I would have had Tommy carry the ball at least 20 times in designed runs when the O line is hurting and clearly could not control the line of scrimmage consistantly. We have not had a strong push up front for three weeks now so the coaches needed to open up the QB draws and scrambles by emptying out the back field and forcing the defense to spread out to defend the entire field. Throwing some jail break screens or other type plays and opening up the 'gut' to QB draws is the answer. Use some trick plays in OT when the offense has basically struggled the entire game makes the most sense. We barely sustained drives at all and never really had any periods of consistant success running the ball for first downs. In overtime, we only needed 2 successful runs by Tommy to have gotten either in the end zone or certainly into the first and goal inside the ten. I like our chances of getting a TD once we got it inside the ten. The key calls were first down and ten at the 25 in OT and second down thereafter. Those were the calls to use Tommy's legs for sure. The QB run is the ONE way the offense can get the edge in the runs as the defense has to defeat each and every block to make the play. Tommy has an excellent chance of gaining 15 yards in three plays in the broken field type action of QB draws and scramble plays.
  10. I think there was contact but not as much as it looks like from that angle. There can be contact but whether it's a foul depends on a lot of things. I think Westy slowed down before there was contact but a lot of people seem to think it was the contact that slowed him down. That makes a lot of difference in whether the contact prevented him from getting to the pass. As I said, the rule states it's the offense's job to avoid the defense. And it Westy slowed down on his own, I'm not sure he was going to catch that pass even if there wasn't any contact. If it would have been called, I don't think anyone would have argued against it. Maybe it was. But I definitely don't think it was as obvious as some like to think. Especially without seeing it from a different angle. We saw one angle that was nowhere near what any of the refs would have seen. It also happened to be the worst angle to tell how much contact there was an who initiated it. Agree that it would be helpful to see several other camera angles to better judge but this is a basic pass interfence in my judgment. The rule does say that the offensive player is responsible for avoiding the defender (this is basically the same thing as the 'charging foul' vs. blocking type rules in basketball. That is, the player has the right to stand his ground (in other words the player who gets there first has the legit claim to the spot. The defender can't run over the opponent nor can the offensive guy run over the defender. But, all passes are presumed 'catchable' unless is it clear and obvious. It is a judgment call of course but when the defender impedes the progress of the receiver then of course the pass can become uncatchable. If the defender gets in the way and the receiver has to slow down in an effort to avoid the defensive player, then it is pass interference. The benefit of the doubt goes to the receiver. In the end it is a common sense judgement call as to which player caused or created the conditions in which the receiver did not catch the pass. If the ball isnot within reach by a receiver that is not being impeded from getting to it, then it is not catchable and the interference won't be called. Here the ball appears to be well within the realm of 'catchable' for Westy if he was not impeded.
  11. Not sure how much we learned that is new but we rather confirmed most of our suspicions: 1. We are a legit top fifteen "ish" team that can play tough at times and doesn't quit and believes in themselves (hence the 4th quarter finishes). 2. We are still about a 'dirty dozen' or so talented players away from being back where we belong in the top 5. (we need 5 top O linemen and an truly fast "elite" level RB, and a QB that can throw very well consistantly. Tommy Armstrong has all the skills you need except the consistancy factor. In today's college game filled with 6'-5" plus linemen, your QB needs to be 6-4 or more to see better and get the ball over those giants at the line of scrimmage. 3. Our punter is only fair and we better get recruiting one because we may need about half a dozen boomers per game next year to keep us in the games. 4. We miss Cethan Carter on those 3rd downs alot. 5. When playing a tough D vs the run game, you need the FB to be involved a bunch of the time.
  12. If you live in Florida and New York or own property in both states, you can legally vote in both. I am not sure if that applies to all states but I highly doubt it does. Someone voting twice isn't going to change the outcome of an election, but regardless voter fraud happens. It happens and its just part of the election, some will probably happen this year as well. The UN I heard is apparently watching the election for voter fraud, that is ridiculous they can let American citizens watch the election for fraud. Thanks Obama for having the UN watch the US election which people from our own country could easily do. Regardless it happens and it can be stopped but it will have a minor impact on the election. It is a violation of federal election law to vote in more than jurisdiction in the case of federal candidates, no matter the technical rules of the local state laws. I don't believe it is legal to vote in either state if you vote in any other state - period. The problem is that the local precincts don't attempt to verify eligibility. This is supposed to occur when voting actually occurs. The polling place is supposed to verify you are properly registered to vote and that you are properly registered. It is a crime to vote in the wrong place within a state or to vote in any state EXCEPT the state in which legally reside. You can only have ONE legal residence and it is generally the state you call 'home' or where you intend to call your home. You may own 'residences' or houses for example all over the place but ONLY one can be your 'residence' for tax and voting and driver's license etc. purposes. Most basic residence requires some amount of time 'residing' there again reside means intent to call it your primary home.
  13. I was happy when Bo was hired and kind of relieved in a way when he was fired. I was very disappointed in the way Bo acted, especially when he was fired. He really woulda, coulda, shoulda left in the right way and not went out burning bridges, etc. I think he would have had a much better shot at landing a better job today had he left in a proud, respectful manner. I feel his behavior was very unsportsmanlike at times although I understand why he wanted to fight hard and 'support his guys'. Those are very laudable things when done in an appropriate way. I hope that Riley is what he seems to be because that is all good in my view.
  14. Huskers 24 Baggies 21 Huskers Rushing 145 Huskers Passing 165 Baggies Rushing 175 Baggies Passing 216 BTW I called God and was given a little 'insider' info on this.
  15. Most 'values' espoused by the American political left (those who vote Democrat in the last several elections and presumably will be voting for Clinton this time) are directly contrary to the basic values and tenets of the Bible and Christianity in particular. Catholics voting Democrat is blatant hypocracy and nonsensical. While not all Republicans are pro-life and not all Democrats are pro-abortion, most are and this is one of the most obvious examples of the above truism. The Republican Party and Tea Party and the Conservatives in general are opposed to abortion as being morally repugnant and for most anti abortion folks, abortion amounts to murder. Clearly immoral. Most of the basic values supported by the 'religious right' are in alignment with the platform espoused by the Republican Party. Not every candidate for said party supports every aspect of the said platform but support aligns with most of it. Trump is more like a Republican thabn a Democrat but he certainly is far from a conservative and far from a religious conservative and would not be in any way considered a member of the 'religious right'. He would land more in the political middle on most of those basic notions although he does fall on the right on more things than he would be 'left'.
  16. No question that winning Saturday would be tremendous step forward in the west division race - gives us this inside track certainly. But every game, except perhaps the Ohio State game, are 'must' wins if we want to remain in the top ten when the dust all settles in mid January. One loss and we will be in the top 7 in the final polls after a win in top tier bowl. But two losses will probably leave us around 10th, assuming that second loss is to Michigan in the CCG. Of course, winning them all almost guarantees NU in the national champ playoffs but it could lead to playing either Ohio State twice or Michigan twice (assuming a one loss Michigan gets into the final 4 list and rematched with us. I would not be surprised to see that happen if we win out and Michigan loses a nail biter to us in the Big Ten title game. But, for the program, we need to play in the CCG and do well and then win a good bowl. 10 wins and a good bowl win will enable us to hold a strong recruiting class together and would have to be viewed as a big step up for Nebraska in the national relevance status. A loss this week and next CANNOT be allowed to be viewed as 'season ending' or somehow proof that we are not getting meaningfully better in the national relevance category.
  17. Boy, you'd never know the D line was playing so well by listening to the commentary from the TV announcers week and week out who simply dump on our front four considerably. The do rave about our secondary play most of the time but offer fewer postive remarks, that I have noticed at least, about the front seven. This seems to say it is the left side of the O line where the big fails are but I tend to feel we have as much trouble running to the right side of the center as the left. I have not attempted to do a true data count of course - just 'it seems' that way perahps. I think our center play has been "OK" but the article seems to say he's down exceptionally well but we do have some serious pass rush issues from up the middle as well. Not sure which linemen are supposed to block who but in general the line collapse seems to be pretty 'across the board' to my way of viewing it. The break down of Tommy's passing suggests he's not very good in the longer throws and although his completion % is lower, one should expect that as the longer the throw, the lower the accuracy and more difficult a completion can be. Some QBs who tend to throw quite a few deeper routes on the sidelines throw those 'sky balls' or fade pattern throws where they just lob it up there and let the receiver run under it somewhat like catching a punt over the shoulder in a retreat mode. Miami used to throws those by the dozens against back in the day (think Gino Torretta, etc). As I recall. I think Tommy has done considerably better this year and I look for him to continue to do pretty well. I think the improvement in his play has been a direct contributor to our being unbeaten.
  18. I guess the offensive numbers this year are the one surprising disappointment for me - I truly thought we'd be at least 10 points and 100 yards a game better on average this year than we are and I guess you point to weak O line play and injuries. About three games ago, I thought the O line was starting to come together and making strides and looked like we could be pretty decent by year-end. Now, maybe that can still happen but? I am afraid the injuries and so on are just taking their toll and the big guys are just not gonna be what I had hoped. Depth and strength and stamina are not there although I think it very odd that we are so gimpy and struggling yet have managed to dig down and find some gas in the 4th quarter. I am not gonna count on that continuing as we move into the meat of the schedule. The appetizers have been OK but now its time to really get going. Our red zone scoring is VERY disappointing and it seems like we've been pretty good in the red zone (field goals % is good and we seem to get points once we get there but 70th is now very good).
  19. To win, and that will be a TALL order, we are going to have to do the things that winning teams do, throughout the game from start to finish. Very tough to do on the road and this team has not played 4 quarters of (as Riley likes to say) "something that looks a lot like football" in several years. Even in our wins vs. MichSt and UCLA, we had serious laps where we just didn't focus and made the usual mistakes. Those can't happen on the road against a legit top ten (ish) opponent. - less than three (fumbles lost, ints, blocked kicks, safeties, etc) - excellent kick coverage - more than three (fumbles recoveredd, ints made, blocked kicks, safeties, etc.) - fewer than 5 penalties with no more than 45 yards suffered - no more injuries and the walking wounded are gonna need extra pain killers/injections - two trick plays that work - Tommy will need to play his best game of the year this week - Ozigbo back and running harder than ever - Healthy Westercamp with about 7 'extra' catches to make up for lost time - a great game plan and some truly exceptional line play on both sides of ball
  20. This cannot be our 'depth chart' as that is only a total of 10 guys for five positions. We have a roster of approx 150 for a total of about 25 spots. That figures out to roughly 6 players PER position. And we know we don't have 6 punters and 6 place kickers so that means there are some 'extras' available. You have 11 offensive positions, 11 defense and a holder and two kickers. Certainly one can argue there are some hybrid positions that could suggest as many as 27 different 'positions' perhaps but we know that some players play multiple positions. If we take out the approximate 25 or so guys who would be redshirting each year theoretically plus another 25 or so who may be injured or otherwise disabled or disqualified for some reason. That still leaves about 100 players to fill the 25 positions (or about FOUR (4) deep. We certainly don't need 4 deep at each of several receiver positions arguably and I believe we are discussing how we are really barely 4 deep at QB. Someone please explain where are the 8 or so additional O linemen hiding?
  21. The referenced commentary is accurate historically and it is true that nations with basic elements of democracy (including the USA being a republic form of democracy) have for nearly all of human history ultimately failed due to the voters voting themselves the resources from the government eventually bankrupting the society. Indeed the United States is clearly racing down this path as the governments, at all levels, with unbridled money lust continue to tax/borrowprint/leverage and spend without regard for the future consequences thereof. Americans today are hopelessly indebted as the most reliable estimates (approximately 150 trillion dollars in government obligations (present and unfunded future commitments/obligations) amount to roughly 1/2 million dollars per person for the approximately 300 million adults living in this country. So, if you have not added in this government's indebtedness that you individually will be required to 'service' one way or another for the remainder of your life and thereafter for the remainder of your offspring's lives, then you are grossly overstating your financial position. This means that for basically 95% of all Americans, we are financially insolvent (broke) and will always be so. This is often a rather harsh slap in the face and rude awakening for many people who simply have no clue how bad the fiscal situation is for America and all its people. We are bankrupt and just haven't recognized it yet. The day is coming and when the realization finally sets in for most folks, it will be a dark and disheartening condition indeed.
  22. DPE for returns, McNitt, Moore,Cotton, Ozigbo, Morgan.
  23. Last year we used Jano very effectively and in my view the FB runs are what opened up the run game and allowed us to turn the season around the final third of the year. Without those quick strike FB traps, I don't think we even get to that Foster Farms chicken bowl and who knows what happens this year. The FB is there for a number of reasons in addition to the obvious 3 or 4 quick hitters that often end up with about 30 'big' yards just when the defense has forgotten about him. I am sure hoping that the answer is NOT the missing O line Coach Tenopir. He is not there to help them get thosebig linemen making those great trap blocks that spring those gut busters. We need more push in our power run game. We are missing Ozigbo to some mysterious injury and of course Cross is gone and apparently the O line is missing several key links as well. But we better find a way to get some 4 and 5 yard gains on first down up the middle or the last half of this year will be too much like the first half of last year. Ugh.
  24. I am still an Ozigbo fan and would clearly prefer he be the back getting the load. I don't mind Newby late in the game after the defense is worn down as then his quickness is beneficial and he does have more straight ahead speed (though he is not a speed burner either). But the bulk of the carries in the first three quarters should be Devine's in my view. He gets something out of nothing and our O line is not exactly 'roadgraders' at this point. They give him something of a crease and Ozigbo gets 2 to 4 or more while Newby is struggling to get back to the line of scrimmage. When you look at stats, I think you need to subtract the three longest and three shortest runs from the figures and then compute the average per carry. I think you will find that Ozigbo shines brighter than Newby although I admit I have not done the math. We need to be able to sustain long, time consuming drives with our run game. Ozigbo does this better than Newby (who may have 50 yards in 10 carries but 6 carries will be for less than 1 positive yard gained. Those are problem plays as they force the offense into passing as the second and 9 or 10s don't offer much hope of getting the first down with two more runs.
  25. I am often accused of drinking the kool-aid or having grand and glorious delusions but really? This guy's kool aid must be spiked with some real positive 'ju ju' juice! When it comes to college sports, it is probably true that nothing is absolutely impossible but Nebraska running the table this year is about as close as it gets to that. Odds are about 2000 to 1 against. I suggest the best strategy is to give those stinkin' badgers our best shot and hope for a W. Then simply forfeit the reg. season game vs. Ohio State saving a beat up O line and backfield for future games that are much more winnable. A one-loss (by way of forfeiture) Husker team wins the west division and enters the big ten CCG with a snowball's chance in Hawaii in May vs those Buckeyes and something similar vs. those Wolverines. The game being played in the ideal conditions of a dome on relativley neutral turf gives us that slim chance. Now, the playoff invite comes down to this: 1. there are no viable 1 loss teams left to pick in the alternative to NU, and 2. there are members of the selection committee that either love the Huskers and vote them in for that reason OR members selecting us just to have the pure pleasure of watching us get the sheet kicked out of us by whomever we are matched up against. Either way, we might just get picked for the big pig dance.
