  1. Actually Texas is in a better position. They are in year 2 of Strong and have fired their AD. They are justified in admitting their mistake and moving on and hiring a new coach. Nebraska is stuck. AD is still in place, I am sure there is no way Riley is fired after 1 year. Our only grace of hope is Riley just retires. Realizes he is in WAY over his head and this was a bad career move on his part and he retires. Please coach. You're a nice guy, the nicest thing to do right now is to retire at years end.
  2. It's good the team can still beat the likes of Southern Mississippi, but they almost threw that game away too. However, it can't beat even the worse of the B1G teams.
  3. The problem with Riley is, if he turns things around he will be 65 years old and looking for retirement. I could understand if say Frost was our OC and he was being molded as the next man up...but I dont see anyone on Riley's staff as being the head coach in waiting for Nebraska, and GOD help us if that is the case. Riley is 62. This season is a loss, next year if we see improvements and he saves his job he's 63..he will be 64-65 years old IF he is able to get anything going, by that time he is looking at the end of his career. Then we are back to rebuilding years because we will need a new head coach. This hire was epic face palm. It made no sense unless Riley started winning championships immediately.
  4. Callahan's name has been banned from the Nebraskan language for 8 years...Riley has brought the name back. That is how bad Riley is.
  5. At first I felt bad for him too. Then I realized he left a cushion job at Oregon State where he never got any heat for the decade + he was there, and he took this job HOPEFULLY KNOWING that the fan base and media in Lincoln was far more invested in its football program than Corvallis was. He needs to know this isn't Oregon State anymore. You don't win here, you are going to get heat. If you can't take it, or realize you are in over your head, then step away.
  6. This is a staff, that worked an hour away from the machine in Eugene...For 7 years they got their behinds handed to them and they never seemed to fix the problem. They had one close game against their biggest rival in 7 years. Oregon ran the same thing over and over for those 7 years.....you knew what Oregon was going to do. Riley and this very same staff, never seemed to remotely figure it out.
  7. I remember almost 10 years ago, one day, Riley turned around a 5-6 season to a 10-4 season. And this was after he produced a 8-5 and 7-5 season. Keep hope. This staff has been proven to be very very good. They have produced 1 10 win season in 12 seasons. I think by 2025 when Riley is just 73 years young, we may get to that 10 win season.
  8. BYU is a good team, Nebraska should have won. Miami good for Nebraska coming back and making that a game. But Miami is not a good team. Illinois is a dumpster fire within itself. They are awful, Nebraska had not lost to them since the 1920's. BYU, simple coaching adjustments on a hail mary prevent the loss. - coaches Miami, lack of players being prepared let a weaker team get way far ahead - coaches Illinois, is bad, real bad, they also have a head coach who was put into that position days before the season. Nebraska should have won on pure superior talent, they got out coaches. - coaches. I cant seem to find where the blame doesnt fall on the coaching staff.
  9. I thought a coach with his years in coaching would be able to out coach the likes of Illinois who fired their coach days before the season started.
  10. As much as I would love Chip Kelly, it is laughable to think we could get him. IF Chip gets fired in Philly, the only place he is going to is Texas, as Charlie Strong is gone at years end. I'll vote for Scott Frost or Tressel. But Since Tressel hired Pelini i doubt Tressel comes here under Echorst or even Pearlmans regime since I am sure Pelini has let Tressel know how he feels about the admin at Nebraska. So Scott Frost seems like a good fit.
  11. I'm super heated over this failure of a job from the coaching staff and the failure of hiring from Echorst. But no matter how many ranting posts I create, it won't matter. No matter how many ranting threads are created around Husker nation, it won't matter. As much as I want Riley gone, no way does he get fired after his first year. Bill Callahan for godsake was given 4 years. And it took a change at the top to even get that thing started.
  12. Look at Riley's commitment to Nebraska. Is he even going after top end recruits? Nebraska has maybe 3 4* commits this year, the rest are 2 and 3 stars. This isn't Oregon State anymore, but he is still going after Oregon State recruits. The only hope people had with Riley was that he was .500 at Oregon State with Oregon State facilities and digs. So maybe at a bigger program with more resources he would do better. Well he is still going after the same recruits Oregon State is. This staff isn't going to cut it. His coordinators are sub par. Pelini's staff had more competence than Riley's. Riley is just such a nice guy that he couldnt not bring his staff with him. Riley is more loyal to his staff than he is to Nebraska. Nice try coach, please retire and let us all move on.
  13. The problem with your scenario is that is far too much time to make change. I can't take 2-3 years of this. The more years we stick with Riley and let him implement his system, the longer the rebuild will be to get out of it. We all know this isn't going to work out. We all knew deep down from the beggining a life long .500 coach wasn't going to suddenly become a national title contender, but we are all die hard Cornhusker fans that we wanted to believe it to work. Best case scenario is to dump him now. Dont give him time to implement his system, because the longer he is here the longer it will take to fix what he changes with the next coach. Admit the loss of a season now and move on. Heck, how awesome would it be if they just fired him now and Osborne was brought in as interim head coach. Obviously firing Riley mid season of his first year will never happen, but I can dream, right? But seriously, this isn't going to work so get rid of him at years end. Soon we will start to see the player give up on him too. Echorst is a flop as well. He failed at Miami, he failed at Nebraska. How, with as big of a university as Nebraska is, do you hire your next head coach within a week of firing your old one? Seeminly only giving interviews to a select few and then coming away with a 62 year old .500 coach? Utter failure. Yesterdays game has left an empty feeling in my stomach. Riley is way too over his head in Lincoln. He had a cushion job in Corvallis, where losing seasons were acceptable and no one turned the heater on his seat. That is not going to fly in Lincoln. I don't know if he realized that. Maybe best case scenario is Riley is such a nice guy, he realizes he cant succeed here and he has failed that he just resigns at years end. Now Mike, that would be the real nice thing to do.
