  1. What, I don't believe the media image that is being sold to me by some guy who gets in front of the camera and tells me one thing and then goes out and does the exact opposite. Okay, you enjoy that Kool Aid No kool aid here bud. Look I don't agree with everything he or the coaching staff has done but damn, get real. If you left your home and took another job which included overlooking 130 young adults you didn't know, being scrutinized by millions of fans and grilled by media on a weekly basis while trying to attract top kids to come to play their college football careers here I would be intrigued to see how you hold up. Honestly I think he's done pretty well from that aspect. We have a huge recruiting weekend this weekend and in the midst of all this the guy has respectfully answered all questions thrown his way, and still has to try and convince young adults he will still be here to coach them due to the impatience of the fan base. I have gotten real. Are you suggesting that he had no idea how bad a coach Mark Banker was when he hired him to come be the D-coordinator? Because if he didn't, he was the only one in Corvallis that didn't. But yet, he passed on many very good defensive coaches and stuck us with his pal regardless of how bad a coach he is. I don't give a crap how "respectfully he answered all questions thrown his way". The problem is that he didn't give a s**t about Nebraska, at least not as much as he cared about his cronies. And now our Huskers are stuck with a horrible defensive coordinator because he is Riley's boy. That's one of the main reason's I think he's an A-hole.This is the same defense that had the players excited with how easy it was to learn...the basics. As more has been added more confusion has ensued. It happens when learn a new scheme. Throw in not having cohesion with injuries to basically the whole front seven and you have what we've seen. Inconsistent play. How do you explain how poorly his defenses performed at OSU? They weren't new schemes to those players. Go read what people in Corvallis were saying about Banker, about his coaching style, particularly about the way his pass defenses were designed. I've heard the excuses, but he has some pretty good athletes looking very bad out there. From reading what OSU fans were saying, it seems that the only way Riley was going to be able to stay in Corvallis was to fire some of the guys on his staff. But Eichorst gave him an easy out. He gave him a place where Riley could go and hide for a few more years and retire and save his buddies' jobs. Maybe Riley didn't think he would be exposed so quickly. But no matter how you look at it, Banker's defense sucks and that isn't new just because it's unfamiliar or because of injuries....it has sucked for years. That same OSUdefense is giving up the same amount of ppg this year w/o banker, but let me guess that his fault We had almost no returning starters this year... 9th youngest team in the country. You can't seriously compare a new defense to an old (and inept) one.
  2. That's the thing about history, its in the past. Riley washed out around 2009 and slid on thin ice each season just barely scraping by, plus he was not allowing OSU to be in a better position to win by protecting his good ole boys. As for the current record, it's to be expected. Riley left the cupboard more than dry with no QB's (atleast developed) and with the 9th youngest team in the nation. Gary Andersen is WAY out recruiting Riley in his first year with a losing season. Riley had low expectations placed upon him and thus he could get by being mediocre with the occasional "good" season. That won't cut it in Nebraska though, he doesn't have what it takes to take a program to the next level (or maintain a high level) and he's being exposed for it.
  3. MR was surprised that the QB passed on a run/pass option when play was sent in with 8 seconds left on play play clock?
  4. The slightly unnerving thing is that, apparently, clock management issues have been noticed before under Riley coached teams. I overheard a brief part of a conversation on Unsportsmanlike Conduct today - the guys spent a few minutes googling mentions of Mike Riley, Oregon State and clock management problems and said they found a handful of articles in just a few minutes. They also found a recent article detailing the 7-most painful losses in recent Oregon State history. One of them was a bowl game against Texas which was in 2012, IIRC. OSU had a two possession lead near the end of game some but questionable play-calling and clock management issues allowed Texas to come back and win at the very end. Now, Riley has coached a long time and I'm sure every coach has had issues of clock management plague them at some point. It's likely bound to happen. So, I don't really know what to make of it. The show hosts called it a 'pattern.' I'm not sure if I'm ready to go there yet, but, it's no less disgruntling. It's not something that's just "plagued" them at some point. As a close and long time follower of Oregon State and Mike Riley I can more than assure you.
  5. He sounds competent and concise, unlike the bugger eatin moron we listened to the last 7 years Concise maybe, but competent? He sounds senile. How so? Link! I gave you the link. It's right up above in this post. Asked about his reaction to the result of the 3rd and 7 play: "I guess my first reaction was . . . surprise, and then, . . . whatever" Asked what made them think they could throw deep: After listing off several deep plays that failed but he thought they were close to working -- "I didn't think it was that impossible to do better than we did. . . .And I think the coverage lent itself to try some of that." Reporter: "What was the coverage?" Riley(confused):"What was that?" Reporter: "What coverage were they in that made you think you could go deep?" Riley: "A variety, they play some cover 3 , ya know, cover 3 zone and some quarters and some pressure". (How does that make you want to go deep all the time???) Later after rambling about consistency as an excuse not to run the ball, he said :"we were trying to do better on 1st and 2nd down to get some 1st downs there cuz our 3rd down stuff was, was bad from the very beginning." I come here for good dark humor and deja vu. I think the press conferences he is giving to you guys is 100x worse than what he gave Oregon State. The dude is burnt out, defeated, he just needs to hang in the towel like he should've done post-2009. I feel bad for him at times then I realize he's being paid millions of dollars and still sticking it to universities and tax payers. That's what I saw in the press conference too. I couldn't tell if it was the lighting or what, but he literally looked like death. C'mon man it's the 5th game of the season and your energy has already been zapped? Can't believe we are stuck with him as our coach, you guys there at Oregon St. really won getting Andersen Exactly, watch a post-game interview of Riley of the last 5 years leading up to this one. Granted, he's never been a "high energy" coach (one of his downfalls IMO), but it's even easier to tell when you go from mid-low energy to impending death. I couldn't believe when I heard that Riley an already washed out coach for Oregon State goes to a relatively prestegious football program like Nebraska, OUT OF LEFT FIELD. Best of luck dealing with some of your overly-optimistic fans who clearly know everything about football. Been there done that and our vindication is only that much sweeter. I don't think you'll have as hard of time due to his coaching circumstances compared to in Corvallis and the upcoming on-field results.

  7. Yes and no. However, I do challenge you to look up every Oregon State press conference and see that all accountability and blame is soley on players. You will consistently find that he blames players and not him or his staff.
  8. Haha. The sad thing is we might have a better record and this is with 17 starting freshman.
  9. Haha. In another thread I said I couldn't believe an OSU fan hadn't visited and said "SUCKERS!!!!!!!!!!"They did. Atleast you guys are more knowledgeful in 5 games than our fanbase and boosters were the last 5 years. Some are. Some of us experienced our former greatness. Some did their research. I understand. In fact, the guy that posted below you is a great example of the typical pollyanna fans we'd been fighting for years. Their logic is if you ignore the problem, it will somehow magically dissappear. Avoidance and denial. Thanks. How do you feel about upgrading to Anderson? Our best hire since Dennis Erickson, IMO. The guy has a plan, specific goals (which help hold him accountable), and he takes the blame and not diverting it to the players (Riley). Anyways, best of luck with a new-new coach. I'm way more confident with your history and high expectations that he won't last more than another year.
