  5. https://www.si.com/college-basketball/2017/04/07/aac-conference-adds-wichita-state-shockers Wichita State and its juggernaut men’s basketball program will be joining the American Athletic Conference for the 2017-18 season, according to a source with direct knowledge of the situation. The American Athletic Conference Board of Directors held a 10:30 a.m. conference call on Friday morning and unanimously voted in the Shockers. A formal announcement is expected Friday after the paperwork is finalized. Wichita State’s departure from the Missouri Valley Conference ends an affiliation that stretches back to 1945. For the past month, the Shockers’ move to the AAC lurched toward inevitability. The last unknown was resolved this week, when Wichita State found out it would be admitted for the 2017-18 season. That led to the AAC presidents approving the expected on Friday, a step viewed as a formality with the details having already been settled. The Shockers are upgrading leagues in part because of the chilly reception they’ve received from the NCAA tournament selection committee. The committee gave Wichita State only a No. 10 seed after it posted a 30-4 record in the 2016-17 regular season. That seed, universally regarded as the committee’s worst in this tournament, came in part because of a schedule softened by playing Valley teams with low RPIs. (Wichita State also got seeded No. 11 in the 2016 tournament and got sent to the First Four in Dayton before stomping fellow No. 11 seed Vanderbilt and No. 6 seed Arizona). The AAC ranked seventh in conference RPI this season, compared to 12th for the Valley. By joining a league with consistently stronger teams top to bottom, Wichita State significantly increases its chances of consistently receiving an at-large bid to the NCAAs.

  8. Taylor-Stuart told Land of 10 on Thursday he won’t be able to come to Nebraska’s spring game. He was 80 percent sure a little more than a week ago, but said Thursday it doesn’t look like it will happen. Taylor-Stuart is the No. 4 corner in the 2018 class. https://www.landof10.com/nebraska/nebraska-recruiting-notebook-breaking-down-spring-game-visitors

That will send the dominoes flying, and one of the dominoes most mentioned is UNO Several sources in college sports say the Horizon League and Missouri Valley Conference could have interest in UNO. If Wichita bolts, the Valley will be left scrambling. Valparaiso, a Horizon school, might be high on the Valley’s list of replacements. The Valley could also look at UNO, bringing the city of Omaha back into the league to fill the void left by Creighton. Several sources say the Horizon League is looking to expand by two schools, and perhaps four. The reason: improving the league’s basketball profile but also providing more conference games and, thus, more home game revenue for members. UNO, with Baxter Arena bills to pay, would certainly fit that profile. The Horizon also makes sense for UNO in that several of its members are “city” schools: Oakland (Detroit), Detroit Mercy, Cleveland State, Illinois-Chicago and Milwaukee. Other members are Youngstown State, Green Bay, Wright State, Northern Kentucky and Valpo. Sources at UNO say the school is happy with the Summit. Another Summit member, Denver, is said to be coveted by the Horizon. The attraction of the Horizon would be city schools that face similar athletic budget challenges. And it would provide fertile recruiting ground for UNO basketball. The Horizon also has a weekly Friday night game on ESPN. Officials at the Horizon and UNO had no comment on Monday. Stay tuned. Now that the Final Four is over, the action might just be starting.
  18. We had our top 4 guys all injured for various lengths last season, 3 of those guys missed the entire year. Thus, we had to play guys big minutes that we weren't normally going to be playing extensive minutes. Those guys were told in their post season interviews that they were probably looking at a minutes reduction and left. Vance Jackson's dad is LaVar Ball esque. Said we "didn't feature his son properly". As for MAL, that one hurts no doubt about it. We have 3 PG's on the roster already but UConn is pretty notorious for playing 2 PG's at the same time and he would've been the number 2 or 3 guy on the floor for us behind Adams and potentially Gilbert (who was hurt last year but was a stud recruit from HS). MAL said he wanted to go somewhere he could be the "feature guy" and while nothing is official the thinking seems to be he will land at Providence. UConn has a 4* swing forward visiting this weekend and is in the final 5 for 4* PG Blake Harris. We hired Raphael Chillious from Washington who was their ace recruiter, the guy responsible for bringing in Fultz and co the last few seasons. We should wind up fine but its definitely been a brutal past few weeks for UConn nation. EDIT: If you want to talk Shockers/UConn/AAC more in depth, head to the UConn board. Everyone is welcoming for the most part and I don't wanna get too off topic on here: www.the-boneyard.com
