  1. I do not say much, mostly observe. I have known Tom Osborne since the fall of 1973. I have seen spirit and rebuilding. When Tom took over the program as head coach, (just off two National Championships) the team was depleted of talent. Most fans today don't know this, Tom never talks about it, but he confided in me that he would never leave the team in the condition he received it. He left it in excellent shape, and we should have had more championships . . . I've been very disappointed in the decorum, leadership and basic coaching ever since. With that said, please look at what we have seen out of Coach Mickey Joseph since he has been interim head coach. He took a "flag football" team and picked up pieces of the program and motivated the players, believing in their individual talents. These players feel like winners again, they played their hearts out against major ranked teams that would have been total blowouts. Why haven't we seen blowouts? The players are motivated they play as a team and they love this coach, he's a players coach and I truly beleive he can revive the program in Nebraska. Remember, the fans hated Tom Osborne his first couple years until he too rebuilt the program. May God Bless the program, and these fine men!
  2. Husker Nation has resolve; we have been knocked on our butts while the program is rebuilding. We may not win another game this year! We have witnessed (since Osborne) numerous decisions that were made based on popularity [Pelini], friendships and possibly tenure [solich] which if one reads through the blogs they may come to the same conclusions. We have witnessed AD indecisions based on the same, including intimidations. Whoever is the coach AD or even the president will not be able to rebuild without our support. Who likes losing? No one I know! Only the negative Sunshine Saturday NU Red capped parading fair weathered and short term fans using blogs do their best to degrade our wonderful program. These fair weathered fans of convenience don’t remember [or can't even read about], or even care how long it took to rebuild the football program when Devaney left. Win at any cost; this is not the foundation NU is built on. Integrity decorum and respect for students, players, fans, coaches and opponents is our heritage. In my opinion Pelini should have been fired much sooner, probably never hired in the first place! Frank Solich inherited recruited talent and potential to win several more National Championships from Tom Osborne. Solich was too wrapped up in notoriety and the short lived fame, left the program in shambles. Solich’s years of very poor recruiting fell in the lap of Bill Callahan, who picked up pieces, knowing you don’t recruit experienced juniors and seniors, you get what the prior coach left you. Callahan was criticized for recruiting and filling the recruiting void with Junior college players because of the talent gap left by Solich . . . remember? I believe we jumped on the gun with Callahan. Callahan brought many talented players to Nebraska, but did not survive to see the benefits of his recruiting and coaching efforts. I believe the soft spoken Mike Riley is needed at this time; Riley has enough experience to weather consequences of the projected losses as he tries to re-build the recruiting program and bring talented players for the program and for a future coach, possibly Scott Frost. Riley is no idiot, I'm sure he realizes he was not hired for a 25 year term; he is mature enough to know walkers are not cool on the sidelines, but he can help rebuild and bring in talented players that will still take years to develop. I am also positive that Mike Riley realized that it would not be easy, that no one could create miracles of a program that has been abused bullied and poorly coached for years. In my opinion Pelini and Solich did more damage to Nebraska than any coaches in our history. Why it took so long for them to be terminated is beyond me. Tom Osborne’s humility gave us strength during challenging times. . . Osborne also made mistakes, and if the Husker Nation did not have resolve during these periods, we may not have had the 1994, 1995 and 1997 national championships seasons. It took 23 years to re-build the program with one coach. Osborne had patience with us, what if we had given up on him [as many had called for]? We have some great talent and great commitments in the future, forgive us Mike Riley you have your plate full. The Husker Nation likes winning, WE REALLY DO! Born, raised, schooled and retired in Nebraska, I proudly wear my Nebraska Husker Hat now in Texas, Win or Lose!
  3. Coach changes are very upsetting to both players and fans. We, my wife and I traveled to Wisconsin last year and witnessed Pelini cuss out a player. At the time we were up 17-0 and the players shut down on Pelini literally, it was an embarrassment for all Nebraskans. Pelini was pictured constantly on the big board; everyone could read the lips of foul mouthed Pelini trash talk a player as he pointed his finger and followed the player for two plays with his back to the field. Pelini should have been fired, probably never hired! Frank Solich inherited a wonderful program from Tom Osborne. Nebraska had the potential to win several more National Championships with the talent he inherited; Unfortunately Frank Solich’s was terminated due to his indiscretions with students [this has never been disputed by the UNL athletic department]. Solich’s years of very poor recruiting fell in the lap of Bill Callahan, who picked up pieces, knowing you don’t recruit experienced juniors and seniors, you get what the prior coach left you. Callahan was criticized for recruiting and filling the recruiting void with Junior college players remember? We jumped the horn with Callahan who did a wonderful job recruiting, remember Suh? Fans and alumni took him out in two years; the strong recruiting efforts by Callahan, Pelini got credit for the next four years. We as Nebraskans have a long history of decorum, demeanor and respect for our opponents, and it took Tom Osborne years of disappointing seasons with alumni calling for his job too! I am for Scott Frost as a coach, however not at this time; the clean-up that has to be done is being done by a soft spoken Mike Riley which is needed at this time, Riley has enough experience to weather consequences of losses as he tries to build upon recruiting talent for a future coach, possibly Scott Frost. Then we may, if we as fans, alumni and faculty support this effort united we may be able to lick our wounds, learn by past mistakes and build upon this experience for a stronger program in the future. Tom Osborne’s humility gave us strength during challenging times, lest we forget.
