  1. That's totally understandable, and not a big deal. One could easily argue (probably correctly) that those polls favor Trump.

I can't believe I'm stirring this pot, but I'm curious Shark how you could perceive these polls favor Trump and are a positive? Are you kidding me?

  2. i just don't see him being real good as a RB at the next level. He runs high. Has a high center of gravity. Seems pretty easy to tackle in his HS film. I think his physical definition and just advancement in physical development Allows him to mow over kids in hs. But at be next level I question him at the RB position. If you look at the really good ones, they have the ability to run low, move side to side, power forward, and stay balanced when someone tries to take their legs out. I'm not saying I don't want this kid. But I think you take peacock as your RB and find another spot on the field for Nathan.

Besides his physical development, what are his greatest attributes? His straight line speed? His hands? His jumping ability? His lateral quickness? You have to break him down and then use his skill set to match to a position that requires a lot of that skill set.

I don't see him as running high so much as I see that he's long bodied and short legged (that's probably not all proper real words). He seems to run upright because he's all torso. With that said his footwork and his lower body power are strong. I think that with the reps and training and nutrition you get in college he might be more of a threat .. imagine trying to block a kid who's upper body is pointed one way while their feet are going another. He's a very real threat in my opinion - not shaped like other RB's but I think that's an asset if coached right.

Just wondering how many of you radical Muslim terrorism deniers are still in denial after Orlando, San Bernadino, Turkey, Bagdad, Paris, etc, etc, etc. Three attacks in the past week. I read a report that terrorist attacks are now averaging around 20 per month! A possible attack just today in NY city park from an "IED" bomb exploding after being stepped on (very early reports at this point but?). The terror problem is growing exponentially people! Then we have several down airplanes with many lives lost in the past year. It is getting worse without question! It is now reasonable to expect several more deadly attacks in this country before year end 2016. The time is NOW to respond strongly and with all due determination and deliberation with all of our allies and cooperators.

How quick you are to assume a home made firework on 4th of July weekend is a IED in NYC. What's wrong with you? You are an alarmist and very quick to try and place blame on a racial/religious group.

Oh and btw, there will be lots of explosions in the next 48 hours - it's not terrorism.

I did not assume it was a terrorist bomb although that does appear to be suspected and the 'fireworks' accident is now being pretty much dismissed. The explosive, whatever it turns out to be, was apparently buried or placed there a day or more before the victim had the misfortune to step on it and lose his foot in the blast. I have to wonder if you still believe that terror no big deal after over 200 attacks around the world in just the month of June. Perhaps dismissing terror attacks as little more than fireworks accidents makes you feel silly.

"A possible attack just today in NY city park from an "IED" bomb exploding after being stepped on (very early reports at this point but?)." Yes, you did assume.

I'm not sure what you're reading or hearing, but all the major news sources are reporting:

    • Preliminary investigation suggests the explosion was an "experiment with fireworks or homemade explosives," NYPD Deputy Chief John O'Connell said at a news conference Sunday afternoon. "We do not have any evidence of a constructed device or commercial-grade fireworks," he said. "There are no specific, credible threats directed at New York or the July Fourth celebrations." It is not unusual for people to try and make homemade fireworks around the Fourth of July, O'Connell said, calling such activity "completely unadvisable." (CNN)
    • "Police officials believe a homemade firework likely caused a blast in New York City's Central Park that seriously injured a man who stepped on it." (CBS)
    • "Investigators believe it was part of an “experiment with fireworks,” police officials said, and declined to call the material a device. The police said they do not believe it was connected to terrorism." (NY Times)

AND - perhaps from a source that you'll find worthy:

    • "Officials said there was no evidence the incident was terror-related, and the working theory revolved around a person testing explosives, perhaps in advance of the Fourth of July holiday. O’Connell and bomb squad commander Lt. Mark Torre said it was not unusual for individuals to create "homemade" fireworks as Independence Day celebrations approached. Officials were scouring the park for other, similar devices, but there was no evidence more than one existed. Authorities appeared to cast doubt on any nefarious motives. O’Connell said the explosive was not placed in a location “where somebody ordinarily would have stepped,” and Torre said investigators hadn’t found any evidence to show the device was a “constructive IED.” (FOX News)

So no, I don't "feel silly", but I continue to feel embarrassed that my fellow citizens, people like you are flaming the fires of prejudice and bigotry. That someone supposedly educated and well spoken as you are will take any circumstance and turn it into an opportunity to fan the fire of "the muslims are coming to get us" is a sad state of affairs.

I'm going to call BS on that. I can understand a newer coach that hasn't been apart of recruiting having those issues but having a coach that sends multiple players to D1 a year has a pretty good grasp on what recruiting is about. He knows what the difference of a "non-committable" and a "committable" offer.

And honestly - what university, or for that matter, ex pro football playing dad doesn't make a correction to something that flagrant that's published. Nothing good comes of the mis information. I'm going to trust the folks that know told the truth.

A university isn't allowed to comment on recruiting. And no staff or other professional would waste the time it would take to run around correcting this stuff for a whole host of reasons.

Perhaps, but I'd still trust recruiting news sources and his coaches that have to think broader and more long term than just one recruit just this one year rather than your conspiracy theory. A lie like that, to that extreme only gets a kid in trouble (as well as his coaches helping in the process) and certainly any school recruiting him would steer clear if there was any validity.

  6. I'm heading to St. Louis right now and on a bridge over the interstate in Kansas City people were hanging a bunch of Trump signs including one that said "BAN MUSLIMS."

As angry as it made me I can't imagine how I'd feel if I were Muslim seeing something like that.

Wonder what you'll see as you get closer to St. Louis and Ferguson.

  7. REUTERS: Trump tweet attacking Clinton employs image of Jewish star

Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump on Saturday tweeted an image of rival Hillary Clinton alongside hundred-dollar bills and a Jewish star bearing the words "most corrupt candidate ever!", prompting outrage and bafflement on social media.

Two hours after his initial tweet, Trump tweeted a similar image in which the six-pointed Star of David - which appears on Israel's flag and which Jews were forced to wear on their clothing by the Nazis during the Holocaust - was replaced by a circle. The original tweet was deleted.

    LINK

Can't wait to hear from the two or three Trump advocates here who will say this was a well thought out move by an excellent businessman who planned it and how Hilary deserved it because Bill cheated on her.

  9. ^ He looks less than thrilled w/ the coaches in that first 60 seconds. Kind of like, leave me the f' alone...

That's all I can focus on - either the kid just doesn't like being touched (which is a real thing) or he's all set with NE. I honestly watched this and switched my vote to OSU.

I think Trump's firing of Lewandoswki is starting to pay off for him. Sure, he will continue to make bone-headed statements, but he appears to be more focused and disciplined and on message, so much so that the Huffington Post could not help but refrain from blasting his trade speech today.

I have to say if he can focus on how bad this economic recovery has been (especially for blue-collar workers) as well as how much worse off we are regarding terrorism, he is going to beat Hillary in November. I just don't know if he's got the discipline to hammer these 2 central messages over and over.

I think he's very perceptive as to what works and what doesn't and follows whichever trend that gives him a favorable response.

That's not saying that he changes his stances, as many seem to think. He simply changes the way he presents the information to get the best reaction, like any intelligent sales person would do.

    On the other hand...

Was he in intelligent sales person mode when he was assailing a federal judge as professionally incompetent due to his race? Repeated boldfaced racism does not seem to be bering perceptive to what works to me...

He definitely didn't word it right, but he wasn't wrong on that issue, and like everything he does, it was blown WAY out of proportion.

Shark, is the weather nice in the bubble?

  11. I think you're both right - Warren's purpose is to be the bully vs. Trump and reel in Bernie supporters, but Hillary will pick a more diverse candidate from a more red(ish) state as VP. My money is on Julian Castro or Cory Booker. Warren & Bernie will find nice specific roles in her cabinet.

Tried my darnedest to find a way to do a poll here ... I'd be curious as to the sex of those who are commenting on this thread.

I went through the first page, and of 13 commenters there were, 10 men, 2 who were "not disclosed" and 1 female (me).

So gender matters as far as opinions on abortion but it doesn't matter when selecting a restroom? ;-) Just playin. Word of warning, be careful of pronoun use when referring to teachercd.

Seriously though, there's you, Moiraine, roxy, and girlknowsfootball and I think that about covers it for the frequent female posters. I'm sure there are more but you and Moiraine are usually the only ones who will brave the politics & religion forum. I'm sure I've forgotten 1 or 3 others....Cina?

"Whether most of us commenting here are men or not is kind of irrelevant. We still have a vote, so we still get to help contribute to the decision."[/size]

Now now, I said nothing about men or women having more or less opinion or relevance on this topic - I was just curious. Yes, everyone has a vote or opinion, it just impacts a few of us more directly and I always find it interesting how opinions break. Just like I find it interesting that there aren't more females commenting on our current recruiting class. Nothing more.

I think the anticipation may have been the "our bodies, our choice" approach was about to emerge. IDK, I can't and wouldn't attempt to speak for knapp.

I'll refrain from sharing my views until I have more free time, maybe later on today. This is one of those subjects that draws me in.

I can appreciate that you felt it might go that way - I'm on the other hand going to try my best to not participate in this thread, hard as it may be. :-)

  13. I remember when, as a kid, I argued vehemently that INXS was a great band, better than any of my dad's favorite bands. The Beatles, Alabama, etc. Nothing he would say could convince me that INXS wasn't the best band ever.

Turns out, they were just the first major act I got into. Today, I listen to all kinds of music, including tons of stuff my dad was into. But I don't listen to INXS anymore, because as I grew older I realized they were just the "in" pop band of the day.

It'd be interesting to see the people who support Trump so vehemently today in 20 years, after they've had time to go through several more election cycles and see the next iteration of Trump. See what they think of him in 20 years.

Boy do I wish you were right - sadly from what I can see those who support him are not the type to look back retrospectively and admit that they were caught up in a moment or uninformed.

  15. If we do ever live in a country where everyone has the guaranteed right to own guns, but women who get pregnant lose their rights to agency over their own lives and bodies, I'd hope that we as a freethinking people could look at this situation and think, "Huh. Maybe we should change those things."

In my opinion, it's a baby when it would be viable outside the womb. Approx week 26+.

No baby is "viable" outside the womb. Take a baby at birth and leave it alone in the wild. It isn't going to survive, not without outside intervention.

The "viability" argument makes zero sense to me.

So perhaps "viable" is too loose a term for you. But breathing on it's own, body functions without assistance from machines or extra measures. Obviously basic care from a parent or caregiver is needed for any infant. As a generality, any fetus needs lung development to be considered "viable". I think the very earliest this has happened is about 21 weeks.

A developing fetus that isn't "viable" is not the same thing as a person whose organs are shutting down and has a Do-Not-Resuscitate order. Even though the baby isn't developed yet, that doesn't make it not a baby.

Help me out with the DNR reference Shark ... not seeing how this got into the convo ....
